We’re doing this because we have seen the need for natural disaster relief on the GoFundMe platform increase:</p> <ul> <li class="body-sm">Since 2018, more than <strong>$500 million</strong> of help has been delivered for natural disaster relief fundraisers through the GoFundMe platform;</li> <li class="body-sm">Over the past 5 years, there has been a <strong>90% increase</strong> in fundraisers following natural disasters on GoFundMe;</li> <li class="body-sm">In that time, GoFundMe.org has distributed over <strong>$6.2 million</strong> to GoFundMe fundraisers via more than <strong>7,000 grants</strong> through our Hurricane and Wildfire Relief Funds.</li> </ul> <p class="h5">GoFundMe, Inc. has made a $2M contribution to kick off this fund. This contribution will enable us to conduct a pilot program for approximately 250 households in California’s Central and Imperial Valleys. Working with community-based partners, we will distribute energy solutions and resources to households in these communities – helping them withstand and adapt to the extreme heat and poor air quality they experience. It was the strongest storm to make landfall in the Big Bend region in more than 125 years as it briefly intensified to a Category 4 hurricane with winds of 130 mph before weakening slightly. We saw many people seek help on GoFundMe to help them recover from this destruction.
