Nonlinear three dimensional finite element models are developed to represent the stiffened steel I-beams. The well established finite element (ANSYS 13.0) program is used to simulate the geometric and material nonlinear nature of the problem. Verification is achieved by comparing the obtained numerical results with the results of previous published experimental work. The parameters considered in the analysis are the horizontal stiffener's position and the horizontal stiffener's dimensions as well as the number of vertical stiffeners. The studied dimensions of the horizontal stiffeners include the stiffener width, the stiffener thickness and the stiffener length. The results of the achieved numerical parametric study for slender steel I-beams show the significant effect of stiffeners on the beam behavior and its failure load. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=beams" title="beams">beams</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=local%20buckling" title=" local buckling"> local buckling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=slender" title=" slender"> slender</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stiffener" title=" stiffener"> stiffener</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=thin%20walled%20section" title=" thin walled section"> thin walled section</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/45085/effect-of-stiffeners-on-the-behavior-of-slender-built-up-steel-i-beams" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/45085.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">279</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2687</span> Improvement of Buckling Behavior of Cold Formed Steel Uprights with Open Cross Section Used in Storage Rack Systems</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yasar%20Pala">Yasar Pala</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Safa%20Senaysoy"> Safa Senaysoy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Emre%20Calis"> Emre Calis</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this paper, structural behavior and improvement of buckling behavior of cold formed steel uprights with open cross-section used storage rack system are studied. As a first step, in the case of a stiffener having an inclined part on the flange, experimental and nonlinear finite element analysis are carried out for three different upright lengths. In the uprights with long length, global buckling is observed while distortional buckling and local buckling are observed in the uprights with medium length and those with short length, respectively. After this point, the study is divided into two groups. One of these groups is the case where the stiffener on the flange is folded at 90°. For this case, four different distances of the stiffener from the web are taken into account. In the other group, the case where different depth of stiffener on the web is considered. Combining experimental and finite element results, the cross-section giving the ultimate critical buckling load is selected. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=steel" title="steel">steel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=upright" title=" upright"> upright</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=buckling" title=" buckling"> buckling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=modes" title=" modes"> modes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nonlinear%20finite%20element%20analysis" title=" nonlinear finite element analysis"> nonlinear finite element analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=optimization" title=" optimization"> optimization</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/64991/improvement-of-buckling-behavior-of-cold-formed-steel-uprights-with-open-cross-section-used-in-storage-rack-systems" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/64991.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">260</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2686</span> Increment of Panel Flutter Margin Using Adaptive Stiffeners</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=S.%20Raja">S. Aircraft lifting surfaces and turbine blades can fail due to oscillations caused by fluid-structure interaction. Hence, it is focussed to study the fluid-structure interaction in the present research. First, the effect of free vibration over the panel is studied. It is well known that the deformation of a panel and flow induced forces affects one another. The selected panel has a span 300mm, chord 300mm and thickness 2 mm. The project is to study, the effect of cross-sectional area and the stiffener location is carried out for the same panel. The stiffener spacing is varied along both the chordwise and span-wise direction. Then for that optimal location the ideal stiffener length is identified. The effect of stiffener cross-section shapes (T, I, Hat, Z) over flutter velocity has been conducted. The flutter velocities of the selected panel with two rectangular stiffeners of cantilever configuration are estimated using MSC NASTRAN software package. As the flow passes over the panel, deformation takes place which further changes the flow structure over it. With increasing velocity, the deformation goes on increasing, but the stiffness of the system tries to dampen the excitation and maintain equilibrium. But beyond a critical velocity, the system damping suddenly becomes ineffective, so it loses its equilibrium. This estimated in NASTRAN using PK method. The first 10 modal frequencies of a simple panel and stiffened panel are estimated numerically and are validated with open literature. A grid independence study is also carried out and the modal frequency values remain the same for element lengths less than 20 mm. The current investigation concludes that the span-wise stiffener placement is more effective than the chord-wise placement. The maximum flutter velocity achieved for chord-wise placement is 204 m/s while for a span-wise arrangement it is augmented to 963 m/s for the stiffeners location of ¼ and ¾ of the chord from the panel edge (50% of chord from either side of the mid-chord line). The flutter velocity is directly proportional to the stiffener cross-sectional area. A significant increment in flutter velocity from 218m/s to 1024m/s is observed for the stiffener lengths varying from 50% to 60% of the span. The maximum flutter velocity above Mach 3 is achieved. It is also observed that for a stiffened panel, the full effect of stiffener can be achieved only when the stiffener end is clamped. Stiffeners with Z cross section incremented the flutter velocity from 142m/s (Panel with no stiffener) to 328 m/s, which is 2.3 times that of simple panel. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stiffener%20placement" title="stiffener placement">stiffener placement</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stiffener%20cross-sectional%20area" title=" stiffener cross-sectional area"> stiffener cross-sectional area</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stiffener%20length" title=" stiffener length"> stiffener length</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stiffener%20cross%20sectional%20area%20shape" title=" stiffener cross sectional area shape"> stiffener cross sectional area shape</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/52356/increment-of-panel-flutter-margin-using-adaptive-stiffeners" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/52356.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">293</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2685</span> Performance of Stiffened Slender Built up Steel I-Columns</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=M.%20E.%20Abou-Hashem%20El%20Dib">M. This research was to determine the behaviour of the connection using full-scale experiments under statically loaded. The stiffeners which are typically attached to beams web or flanges to control local buckling and to increase shear capacity in a beam web are almost always used in modern designs. They must also provide sufficient moment of inertia to control out of plane deformations. This study was undertaken to analyse the influence of stiffeners in the angles and beams on the behaviour of the beam-to-column joints. In addition, the aim was to provide necessary data to improve the Eurocode 3. The main parameters observed are the evolution of the resistance, the stiffness, the rotation capacity, the ductility of a joint and the Energy Dissipation. Experimental tests show that the plastic flexural resistance and the energy dissipation increased when thickness of stiffener beam, thickness of stiffener angles were increased in the test specimens. And also, while stiffness of joints, the bending moment capacity and the maximum bending moment increased with the increasing thickness of stiffener beam, these values decreased with the increasing thickness of stiffener angles. So, it is observed that the beam stiffener of angles are important in improving resistance moment of beam-to-column semi-rigid joints. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bolted%20angles%20connection" title="bolted angles connection">bolted angles connection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=semi-rigid%20joints" title=" semi-rigid joints"> semi-rigid joints</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ductility%20of%20a%20joint" title=" ductility of a joint"> ductility of a joint</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=angles%20and%20beams%20stiffeners" title=" angles and beams stiffeners"> angles and beams stiffeners</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/54503/experimental-model-of-the-behaviour-of-bolted-angles-connections-with-stiffeners" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/54503.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">460</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2683</span> Effects of Using Gusset Plate Stiffeners on the Seismic Performance of Concentrically Braced Frame </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=B.%20Mohebi">B. In this study, to improve the seismic performance of SCBFs connections, an analytical study was undertaken. To improve the gusset plate connection, this study proposes using ‎edge’s stiffeners in both sides of gusset plate.‎ For this purpose, in order to examine edge’s stiffeners effect on gusset plate connections, two groups of modeling with and without considering edge’s stiffener and different types of braces were modeled using ABAQUS software. The results show that considering the edge’s stiffener reduces the equivalent plastic strain values at a connection region of gusset plate with beam and column, which can improve the seismic performance of gusset plate. Furthermore, considering the edge’s stiffeners significantly decreases the strain concentration at regions where gusset plates have been connected to beam and column. Moreover, considering 2tpl distance causes reduction in the plastic strain. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=special%20concentrically%20braced%20frame" title="special concentrically braced frame">special concentrically braced frame</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gusset%20plate" title=" gusset plate"> gusset plate</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=edge%27s%20stiffener" title=" edge's stiffener"> edge's stiffener</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=seismic%20performance" title=" seismic performance"> seismic performance</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/115527/effects-of-using-gusset-plate-stiffeners-on-the-seismic-performance-of-concentrically-braced-frame" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/115527.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">128</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2682</span> Length-Weight and Length-Length Relationships for 14 Sparidae Species, from the Northeastern Mediterranean Sea Coast of Turkey</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hacer%20Yeldan">Hacer Yeldan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Erhan%20Akamca"> Erhan Akamca</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sedat%20G%C3%BCndogdu"> Sedat Gündogdu</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Length-Weight and Length-length relationship were estimated of 14 species Sparidae (Boops boops, Diplodus annularis, Diplodus cervinus, Dipladus puntazzo, Diplodus sargus, Diplodus vulgaris, Lithognathus mormyrus, Oblada melanura, Pagellus acarne, Pagellus erythrinus, Pagrus auriga, Pagrus caeruleostictus, Sarpa salpa, Sparus aurata) sampled from in the Northeastern Mediterranean Sea coast of Turkey, Iskenderun Bay. Where failure modes 3 are likely to occur first follows the failure mode 4 and the last one is the failure mode 1. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ultimate%20strength%20assessment" title="ultimate strength assessment">ultimate strength assessment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=BKI%20rules" title=" BKI rules"> BKI rules</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=incremental" title=" incremental"> incremental</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=plate-stiffener%20combination%20and%20hard%20corner" title=" plate-stiffener combination and hard corner"> plate-stiffener combination and hard corner</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=commercial%20software" title=" commercial software"> commercial software</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/47666/simplified-ultimate-strength-assessment-of-ship-structures-based-on-biro-klasifikasi-indonesia-rules-for-hull" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/47666.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">367</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2680</span> Numerical Study of Fatigue Crack Growth at a Web Stiffener of Ship Structural Details</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wentao%20He">Wentao He</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jingxi%20Liu"> Jingxi Liu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=De%20Xie"> De Xie </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> It is necessary to manage the fatigue crack growth (FCG) once those cracks are detected during in-service inspections. In this paper, a simulation program (FCG-System) is developed utilizing the commercial software ABAQUS with its object-oriented programming interface to simulate the fatigue crack path and to compute the corresponding fatigue life. In order to apply FCG-System in large-scale marine structures, the substructure modeling technique is integrated in the system under the consideration of structural details and load shedding during crack growth. Based on the nodal forces and nodal displacements obtained from finite element analysis, a formula for shell elements to compute stress intensity factors is proposed in the view of virtual crack closure technique. The cracks initiating from the intersection of flange and the end of the web-stiffener are investigated for fatigue crack paths and growth lives under water pressure loading and axial force loading, separately. It is found that the FCG-System developed by authors could be an efficient tool to perform fatigue crack growth analysis on marine structures. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=crack%20path" title="crack path">crack path</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fatigue%20crack" title=" fatigue crack"> fatigue crack</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fatigue%20live" title=" fatigue live"> fatigue live</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=FCG-system" title=" FCG-system"> FCG-system</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=virtual%20crack%20closure%20technique" title=" virtual crack closure technique"> virtual crack closure technique</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/8860/numerical-study-of-fatigue-crack-growth-at-a-web-stiffener-of-ship-structural-details" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/8860.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">568</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2679</span> Morphometric Relationships of Unfarmed Puntius sophore, Collected from Chenab River, Punjab, Pakistan</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alina%20Zafar">Alina Zafar</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this particular research, various morphometric characters such as total length (TL), wet weight (WW), standard length (SL), fork length (FL), head length (HL), head width (HW), body depth (BD), body girth (BG), dorsal fin length (DFL), pelvic fin length (PelFL), pectoral fin length (PecFL), anal fin length (AFL), dorsal fin base (DFB), anal fin base (AFB), caudal fin length (CFL) and caudal fin width (CFW) of wild collected Puntius sophore were studied, to know the types of growth patterns and correlations in reference to length and weight, however, high significant relationships were recorded between total length and wet weight, as the correlation coefficient (r) possessed value of 0.989. Following assumptions are made for the mathematical modelling of RCC with steel embedment: (1) The bond between the structural steel and concrete is neglected. (2) The stiffener is provided with shear studs to transfer the shear force. Hence nodal connectivity is established between solid nodes (concrete) and shell elements (stiffener) at those locations. (3) As the end reinforcements transfer either tension/compression, it is modeled as line element and connected to solid nodes. (4) In order to capture the bearing of bottom flange on to the concrete, the line element of plan size of solid equal to the cross section of line elements is connected between solid and shell elements below for bottom flange and above for top flange. (5) As the concrete cannot resist tension at the interface (i.e., between structural steel and RCC), the tensile stiffness is assigned as zero and only compressive stiffness is enabled to take. Hence, non-linear static analysis option is invoked. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=structure" title="structure">structure</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=construction" title=" construction"> construction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=signature%20tower" title=" signature tower"> signature tower</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=embedment%20design%20concept" title=" embedment design concept"> embedment design concept</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/4954/embedment-design-concept-of-signature-tower-in-chennai" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/4954.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">301</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2677</span> Length-Weight and Length-Length Relationships of Oreochromis aureus in Relation to Body Size from Pakistan</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Naeem">Muhammad Naeem</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Amina%20Zubari"> Amina Zubari</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdus%20Salam"> Abdus Salam</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Summera%20Yasmeen"> Summera Yasmeen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Syed%20Ali%20Ayub%20Bukhari"> Syed Ali Ayub Bukhari</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abir%20Ishtiaq"> Abir Ishtiaq </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In the present study, eighty three wild Oreochromis aureus of different body size ranging 5.3-14.6 cm in total length were collected from the River Chenab, District Muzzafer Garh, Pakistan to investigate the parameters of length –weight, length-length relationships and condition factor in relation to size. Linear body measurements were taken on 150 turkeys. 70 exotic turkeys which include both males (20) and Females (50) and 80 locally adapted turkeys which include males (30) and females (50). The study was conducted at the Turkey Unit of the Teaching and Research Farm, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria. The linear body measurements taken and recorded were the beak length, head length, neck length, body length, keel length, wingspan, wing length, drumstick, Shank length, toe length, tail length and body girth all taken in centimetres (cm). The recorded variables were analyzed with SAS (2008). Duncan multiple range test was used to detect differences among means. Variation was noted between male and female turkeys in favour of the male turkeys as an expression of sexual dimorphism for all studied traits. The male is found to be significantly higher (p <0.05) than the females for all the morphometric traits measured both for the local and exotic type. The exotic type is found to be significantly higher (p <0.05) than the local type for all the morphometric traits measured. The interaction is higher significantly (p <0.05) in the exotic genotype and in the male sex in relation with the morphometric trait especially in the beak length, neck length, body length, keel length, drumstick, shank length and the toe length. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=exotic%20type" title="exotic type">exotic type</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=linear%20measurement" title=" linear measurement"> linear measurement</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=local%20type" title=" local type"> local type</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=morphometric%20traits" title=" morphometric traits"> morphometric traits</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Meleagris%20gallopavo" title=" Meleagris gallopavo"> Meleagris gallopavo</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/86761/effect-of-genotype-and-sex-on-morphometric-traits-of-turkey" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/86761.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">329</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2674</span> Finite Element Model to Investigate the Dynamic Behavior of Ring-Stiffened Conical Shell Fully and Partially Filled with Fluid</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammadamin%20Esmaeilzadehazimi">Mohammadamin Esmaeilzadehazimi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Morteza%20Shayan%20Arani"> Morteza Shayan Arani</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammad%20Toorani"> Mohammad Toorani</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Aouni%20Lakis"> Aouni Lakis</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This study uses a hybrid finite element method to predict the dynamic behavior of both fully and partially-filled truncated conical shells stiffened with ring stiffeners. The method combines classical shell theory and the finite element method, and employs displacement functions derived from exact solutions of Sanders' shell equilibrium equations for conical shells. The shell-fluid interface is analyzed by utilizing the velocity potential, Bernoulli's equation, and impermeability conditions to determine an explicit expression for fluid pressure. The equations of motion presented in this study apply to both conical and cylindrical shells. This study presents the first comparison of the method applied to ring-stiffened shells with other numerical and experimental findings. Vibration frequencies for conical shells with various boundary conditions and geometries in a vacuum and filled with water are compared with experimental and numerical investigations, achieving good agreement. The study thoroughly investigates the influence of geometric parameters, stiffener quantity, semi-vertex cone angle, level of water filled in the cone, and applied boundary conditions on the natural frequency of fluid-loaded ring-stiffened conical shells, and draws some useful conclusions. The primary advantage of the current method is its use of a minimal number of finite elements while achieving highly accurate results. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=finite%20element%20method" title="finite element method">finite element method</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fluid%E2%80%93structure%20interaction" title=" fluid–structure interaction"> fluid–structure interaction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=conical%20shell" title=" conical shell"> conical shell</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=natural%20frequency" title=" natural frequency"> natural frequency</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ring-stiffener" title=" ring-stiffener"> ring-stiffener</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/177559/finite-element-model-to-investigate-the-dynamic-behavior-of-ring-stiffened-conical-shell-fully-and-partially-filled-with-fluid" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/177559.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">78</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2673</span> Statistical Description of Counterpoise Effective Length Based on Regressive Formulas</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Petar%20Sarajcev">Petar Sarajcev</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Josip%20Vasilj"> Josip Vasilj</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Damir%20Jakus"> Damir Jakus</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper presents a novel statistical description of the counterpoise effective length due to lightning surges, where the (impulse) effective length had been obtained by means of regressive formulas applied to the transient simulation results. The effective length is described in terms of a statistical distribution function, from which median, mean, variance, and other parameters of interest could be readily obtained. The influence of lightning current amplitude, lightning front duration, and soil resistivity on the effective length has been accounted for, assuming statistical nature of these parameters. A method for determining the optimal counterpoise length, in terms of the statistical impulse effective length, is also presented. It is based on estimating the number of dangerous events associated with lightning strikes. Proposed statistical description and the associated method provide valuable information which could aid the design engineer in optimising physical lengths of counterpoises in different grounding arrangements and soil resistivity situations. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=counterpoise" title="counterpoise">counterpoise</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=grounding%20conductor" title=" grounding conductor"> grounding conductor</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=effective%20length" title=" effective length"> effective length</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=lightning" title=" lightning"> lightning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Monte%20Carlo%20method" title=" Monte Carlo method"> Monte Carlo method</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=statistical%20distribution" title=" statistical distribution"> statistical distribution</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/16716/statistical-description-of-counterpoise-effective-length-based-on-regressive-formulas" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/16716.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">426</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2672</span> Prediction of the Tunnel Fire Flame Length by Hybrid Model of Neural Network and Genetic Algorithms </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Behzad%20Niknam">Behzad Niknam</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kourosh%20Shahriar"> Kourosh Shahriar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hassan%20Madani"> Hassan Madani</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper demonstrates the applicability of Hybrid Neural Networks that combine with back propagation networks (BPN) and Genetic Algorithms (GAs) for predicting the flame length of tunnel fire A hybrid neural network model has been developed to predict the flame length of tunnel fire based parameters such as Fire Heat Release rate, air velocity, tunnel width, height and cross section area. In this paper, we discuss how such a collection of (maximal) orthogonal de Bruijn/Kautz sequences can be made and use the algorithm to build up a web application service for the synthesized DNA and other related biomolecular sequences. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=biomolecular%20sequence%20synthesis" title="biomolecular sequence synthesis">biomolecular sequence synthesis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=de%20Bruijn%20sequences" title=" de Bruijn sequences"> de Bruijn sequences</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Eulerian%20cycle" title=" Eulerian cycle"> Eulerian cycle</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hamiltonian%20cycle" title=" Hamiltonian cycle"> Hamiltonian cycle</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kautz%20sequences" title=" Kautz sequences"> Kautz sequences</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=orthogonal%20sequences" title=" orthogonal sequences"> orthogonal sequences</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/121912/constructing-orthogonal-de-bruijn-and-kautz-sequences-and-applications" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/121912.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">167</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2670</span> Length Dimension Correlates of Longitudinal Physical Conditioning on Indian Male Youth</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Seema%20Sharma%20Kaushik">Seema Sharma Kaushik</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dhananjoy%20Shaw"> Dhananjoy Shaw</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Various length dimensions of the body have been a variable of interest in the research areas of kinanthropometry. However the inclusion of length measurements in various studies remains restricted to reflect characteristics of a particular game/sport at a particular time. Hence, the present investigation was conducted to study various length dimensions correlates of a longitudinal physical conditioning program on Indian male youth. The study was conducted on 90 Indian male youth. The sample was equally divided into three groups namely, progressive load training (PLT), constant load training (CLT) and no load training (NL). The variables included sitting height, leg length, arm length and foot length. The study was conducted by adopting the multi group repeated measure design. Three different groups were measured four times after completion of each of the three meso-cycles of six-weeks duration each. The measurements were taken using the standard landmarks and procedures. Mean, standard deviation and analysis of co-variance were computed to analyze the data statistically. The post-hoc analysis was conducted for the significant F-ratios at 0.05 level. The study concluded that the followed longitudinal physical conditioning program had significant effect on various length dimensions of Indian male youth. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Indian%20male%20youth" title="Indian male youth">Indian male youth</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=longitudinal" title=" longitudinal"> longitudinal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=length%20dimensions" title=" length dimensions"> length dimensions</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=physical%20conditioning" title=" physical conditioning"> physical conditioning</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/112881/length-dimension-correlates-of-longitudinal-physical-conditioning-on-indian-male-youth" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/112881.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">157</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2669</span> Length/Length-Length/Weight Relationships for 2 Erythrean mantis Shrimp Species, Erugosquilla massavensis (Kossmann, 1883), and Clorida albolitura (Ahyong&Naiyanetr, 2000) from the Yumurtalik Cove, Northeastern Mediterranean of Turkey</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Canan%20T%C3%BCreli%CC%87">Canan Türeli̇</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=I%CC%87rem%20Nur%20Ye%C5%9Fi%CC%87lyurt"> İrem Nur Yeşi̇lyurt</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> A total of nine stomatopod crustaceans have been reported from the eastern Mediterranean, with the eight from the Turkey coasts and three from the Levantine coast of Turkey (Squilla massavensis (Linnaeus,1758), Erugosquilla massavensis (Kossmann, 1880), Clorida albolitura (Ahyong&Naiyanetr, 2000). E. massavensis is the most successful Red Sea immigrant, and it is now the dominant eastern Levantine stomatopod. At this research, carapace length/total length- weight relationship of 2 erythrean mantis shrimp, E. massavensis and C. albolitura was studied in Yumurtalık Cove, in the Northeastern Mediterranean of Turkey. Samples were collected monthly from July 2014 to June 2015 (except February), using bottom trawl net into three different depth strata; 0- 10 m, 10-20 m, 20-50m. E. massavensis samples were caught all studied time, except winter, in the three depth range but C. albolitura samples were caught only in July, October and May's months. A total of 572 specimens of the E. massavensis and 12 specimens of the C. albolitura were collected and analyzed. Morphometric equations for the conversions of total length and weight, carapace lengths were constructed for males, females, combined sexes for E. massavensis and C. albolitura. The b-values for total length (TL)-weight (W) in males and females for E. massavensis were 2.738 and 2.725 respectively and for carapace length (CL)-total length (TL) they were 1.041 and 0.978, relatively. The b-values (total length-weight) were determined for combined sexes of E. massavensis and C. albolitura as: 2.771, 1.852 relatively. In both species, the relative growth of weight and total length was found highly positively allometric. However, carapace length showed negative allometry in females of E. Massavensis. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Clorida%20albolitura" title="Clorida albolitura">Clorida albolitura</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Erugosquilla%20massavensis" title=" Erugosquilla massavensis"> Erugosquilla massavensis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Erythrean%20stomatopod" title=" Erythrean stomatopod"> Erythrean stomatopod</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=length%2Flength-weight%20relationships" title=" length/length-weight relationships"> length/length-weight relationships</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/46173/lengthlength-lengthweight-relationships-for-2-erythrean-mantis-shrimp-species-erugosquilla-massavensis-kossmann-1883-and-clorida-albolitura-ahyongnaiyanetr-2000-from-the-yumurtalik-cove-northeastern-mediterranean-of-turkey" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/46173.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">292</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2668</span> Study of Bored Pile Retaining Wall Using Physical Modeling</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Amin%20Eslami">Amin Eslami</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jafar%20Bolouri%20Bazaz"> Jafar Bolouri Bazaz</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Excavation and retaining walls are of challenging issues in civil engineering. In this study, the behavior of one the important type of supporting systems called Contiguous Bored Pile (CBP) retaining wall is investigated using a physical model. Besides, a comparison is made between two modes of free end piles(soft bed) and fixed end piles (stiff bed). Also a back calculation of effective length (the real free length of pile) is done by measuring lateral deflection of piles in different stages of excavation in both a forementioned cases. Based on observed results, for the fixed end mode, the effective length to free length ratio (Leff/L0) is equal to unity in initial stages of excavation and less than 1 in its final stages in a decreasing manner. While this ratio for free end mode, remains constant during all stages of excavation and is always less than unity. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=contiguous%20bored%20pile%20wall" title="contiguous bored pile wall">contiguous bored pile wall</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=effective%20length" title=" effective length"> effective length</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fixed%20end" title=" fixed end"> fixed end</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=free%20end" title=" free end"> free end</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=free%20length" title=" free length"> free length</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/19410/study-of-bored-pile-retaining-wall-using-physical-modeling" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/19410.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">399</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2667</span> Improvement of Camera Calibration Based on the Relationship between Focal Length and Aberration Coefficient</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Guorong%20Sui">Guorong Sui</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Xingwei%20Jia"> Xingwei Jia</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chenhui%20Yin"> Chenhui Yin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Xiumin%20Gao"> Xiumin Gao</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In the processing of camera-based high precision and non-contact measurement, the geometric-optical aberration is always inevitably disturbing the measuring system. Moreover, the aberration is different with the different focal length, which will increase the difficulties of the system’s calibration. Therefore, to understand the relationship between the focal length as a function of aberration properties is a very important issue to the calibration of the measuring systems. In this study, we propose a new mathematics model, which is based on the plane calibration method by Zhang Zhengyou, and establish a relationship between the focal length and aberration coefficient. By using the mathematics model and carefully modified compensation templates, the calibration precision of the system can be dramatically improved. The experiment results show that the relative error is less than 1%. It is important for optoelectronic imaging systems that apply to measure, track and position by changing the camera’s focal length. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=camera%20calibration" title="camera calibration">camera calibration</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=aberration%20coefficient" title=" aberration coefficient"> aberration coefficient</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vision%20measurement" title=" vision measurement"> vision measurement</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=focal%20length" title=" focal length"> focal length</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mathematics%20model" title=" mathematics model"> mathematics model</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/77749/improvement-of-camera-calibration-based-on-the-relationship-between-focal-length-and-aberration-coefficient" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/77749.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">364</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2666</span> Theoretical Approach for Estimating Transfer Length of Prestressing Strand in Pretensioned Concrete Members</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sun-Jin%20Han">Sun-Jin Han</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Deuck%20Hang%20Lee"> Deuck Hang Lee</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hyo-Eun%20Joo"> Hyo-Eun Joo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hyun%20Kang"> Hyun Kang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kang%20Su%20Kim"> Kang Su Kim</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In pretensioned concrete members, the transfer length region is existed, in which the stress in prestressing strand is developed due to the bond mechanism with surrounding concrete. The stress of strands in the transfer length zone is smaller than that in the strain plateau zone, so-called effective prestress, therefore the web-shear strength in transfer length region is smaller than that in the strain plateau zone. Although the transfer length is main key factor in the shear design, a few analytical researches have been conducted to investigate the transfer length. Therefore, in this study, a theoretical approach was used to estimate the transfer length. The bond stress developed between the strands and the surrounding concrete was quantitatively calculated by using the Thick-Walled Cylinder Model (TWCM), based on this, the transfer length of strands was calculated. To verify the proposed model, a total of 209 test results were collected from the previous studies. Consequently, the analysis results showed that the main influencing factors on the transfer length are the compressive strength of concrete, the cover thickness of concrete, the diameter of prestressing strand, and the magnitude of initial prestress. In addition, the proposed model predicted the transfer length of collected test specimens with high accuracy. One hundred male Cobb 500® broiler chickens were grouped into ten replicates of ten chickens each. Growth performance, measurement of telomere length, weights of organs, and meat quality traits were determined on days 14, 28, and 42 of the experiment. There were significant (p < 0.05) differences obtained in the chicken growth performance across ages. Telomere length of blood, muscle, liver, and heart on day 14 were significantly (p < 0.05) shorter than telomere length obtained on days 28 and 42 of the age. Weights of organs on day 14 were significantly (p < 0.05) higher than those obtained on days 28 and 42. In this study, birds slaughtered on day 14 presented the highest (p < 0.05) pH, drip loss, redness, and yellowness. They, however, showed lower (p < 0.05) cooking loss, shear force, and lightness. There was a significant association between age, telomere length, and meat quality traits. It is therefore concluded that telomere length attrition is associated with early age metabolic activities and could be used to measure chicks' welfare. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=age" title="age">age</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=telomere%20length" title=" telomere length"> telomere length</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=organ%20weights" title=" organ weights"> organ weights</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=meat%20quality" title=" meat quality"> meat quality</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/146027/telomere-length-genetics-biomarker-of-early-age-metabolic-activities-and-oxidative-impact-in-broiler-chicken-gallus-gallus-domesticus" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/146027.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">98</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2664</span> Variations in the 7th Lumbar (L7) Vertebra Length Associated with Sacrocaudal Fusion in Greyhounds</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sa%60ad%20M.%20Ismail">Sa`ad M. The 7th lumbar vertebra (L7) is normally shorter than other lumbar vertebrae, and it has been reported that variations in the L7 length may be associated with other abnormal anatomical findings. These variations included the reduction or absence of the portion of the median sacral crest. In this study, 53 greyhound cadavers were placed in right lateral recumbency, and two lateral radiographs were taken of the lumbosacral region for each greyhound. The length of the 6th lumbar (L6) vertebra and L7 were measured using radiographic measurement software and was defined to be the mean of three lines drawn from the caudal to the cranial edge of the L6 and L7 vertebrae (a dorsal, middle, and ventral line) between specific landmarks. Sacrocaudal fusion was found in 41.5% of the greyhounds. The mean values of the length of L6, L7, and the ratio of the L6/L7 length of the greyhounds with sacrocaudal fusion were all greater than those with standard sacrums (three sacral vertebrae). There was a significant difference (P < 0.05) in the mean values of the length of L7 between the greyhounds without sacrocaudal fusion (mean = 29.64, SD ± 2.07) and those with sacrocaudal fusion (mean = 30.86, SD ± 1.80), but, there was no significant difference in the mean value of the length of the L6 measurement. Among different types of sacrocaudal fusion, the longest L7 was found in greyhounds with sacrum type D, intermediate length in those with sacrum type B, and the shortest was found in those with sacrums type C, and the mean values of the ratio of the L6/L7 were 1.11 (SD ± 0.043), 1.15, (SD ± 0.025), and 1.15 (SD ± 0.011) for the types B, C, and D respectively. No significant differences in the mean values of the length of L6 or L7 were found among the different types of sacrocaudal fusion. The occurrence of sacrocaudal fusion might affect direct anatomically connected structures such as the L7. The variation in the length of L7 between greyhounds with sacrocaudal fusion and those without may reflect the possible sequences of the process of fusion. Variations in the length of the L7 vertebra in greyhounds may be associated with the occurrence of sacrocaudal fusion. The variation in the vertebral length may affect the alignment and biomechanical properties of the sacrum and may alter the loading. We concluded that any variations in the sacrum anatomical features might change the function of the sacrum or the surrounding anatomical structures. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=biomechanics" title="biomechanics">biomechanics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Greyhound" title=" Greyhound"> Greyhound</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sacrocaudal%20fusion" title=" sacrocaudal fusion"> sacrocaudal fusion</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=locomotion" title=" locomotion"> locomotion</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=6th%20Lumbar%20%28L6%29%20Vertebra" title=" 6th Lumbar (L6) Vertebra"> 6th Lumbar (L6) Vertebra</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=7th%20Lumbar%20%28L7%29%20Vertebra" title=" 7th Lumbar (L7) Vertebra"> 7th Lumbar (L7) Vertebra</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ratio%20of%20the%20L6%2FL7%20length" title=" ratio of the L6/L7 length"> ratio of the L6/L7 length</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/74939/variations-in-the-7th-lumbar-l7-vertebra-length-associated-with-sacrocaudal-fusion-in-greyhounds" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/74939.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">371</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2663</span> The Simulation of Superfine Animal Fibre Fractionation: The Strength Variation of Fibre</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sepehr%20Moradi">Sepehr Moradi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This study investigates the contribution of individual Australian Superfine Merino Wool (ASFW) and Inner Mongolia Cashmere (IMC) fibres strength behaviour to the breaking force variation (CVBF) and minimum fibre diameter (CVₘFD) induced by actual single fibre lengths and the combination of length and diameter groups. Mid-side samples were selected for the ASFW (n = 919) and IMC (n = 691) since it is assumed to represent the average of the whole fleece. The average (LₘFD) varied for ASFW and IMC by 36.6 % and 33.3 % from shortest to longest actual single fibre length and -21.2 % and -21.7 % between longest-coarsest and shortest-finest groups, respectively. The tensile properties of single animal fibres were characterised using Single Fibre Analyser (SIFAN 4). After normalising for diversity in fibre diameter at the position of breakage, the parameters, which explain the strength behaviour within actual fibre lengths and combination of length-diameter groups, were the Intrinsic Fibre Strength (IFS) (MPa), Min IFS (MPa), Max IFS (MPa) and Breaking force (BF) (cN). The average strength of single fibres varied extensively within actual length groups and within a combination of length-diameter groups. IFS ranged for ASFW and IMC from 419 to 355 MPa (-15.2 % range) and 353 to 319 (-9.6 % range) and BF from 2.2 to 3.6 (63.6 % range) and 3.2 to 5.3 cN (65.6 % range) from shortest to longest groups, respectively. Single fibre properties showed no differences within actual length groups and within a combination of length-diameter groups, or was there a strong interaction between the strength of single fibre (P > 0.05) within remaining and removing length-diameter groups. Longer-coarser fibre fractionation had a significant effect on BF and IFS and all of the length groups showed a considerable variance in single fibre strength that is accounted for by diversity in the diameter variation along the fibre. There are many concepts for the improvement of the stress-strain properties of animal fibres as a means of raising a single fibre strength by simultaneous changes in fibre length and diameter. Fibre fractionation over a given length directly for single fibre strength or using the variation traits of fibre diameter is an important process used to increase the strength of the single fibre. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=single%20animal%20fibre%20fractionation" title="single animal fibre fractionation">single animal fibre fractionation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=actual%20length%20groups" title=" actual length groups"> actual length groups</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=strength%20variation" title=" strength variation"> strength variation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=length-diameter%20groups" title=" length-diameter groups"> length-diameter groups</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=diameter%20variation%20along%20fibre" title=" diameter variation along fibre"> diameter variation along fibre</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/82558/the-simulation-of-superfine-animal-fibre-fractionation-the-strength-variation-of-fibre" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/82558.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">203</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2662</span> Location Choice of Firms in an Unequal Length Streets Model: Game Theory Approach as an Extension of the Spoke Model</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kiumars%20Shahbazi">Kiumars Shahbazi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Salah%20Salimian"> Salah Salimian</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdolrahim%20Hashemi%20Dizaj"> Abdolrahim Hashemi Dizaj</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Locating is one of the key elements in success and survival of industrial centers and has great impact on cost reduction of establishment and launching of various economic activities. In this study, streets with unequal length model have been used that is the classic extension of Spoke model; however with unlimited number of streets with uneven lengths. The results showed that the spoke model is a special case of streets with unequal length model. According to the results of this study, if the strategy of enterprises and firms is to select both price and location, there would be no balance in the game. Furthermore, increased length of streets leads to increased profit of enterprises and with increased number of streets, the enterprises choose locations that are far from center (the maximum differentiation), and the enterprises' output will decrease. Moreover, the enterprise production rate will incline toward zero when the number of streets goes to infinity, and complete competition outcome will be achieved. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=locating" title="locating">locating</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nash%20equilibrium" title=" Nash equilibrium"> Nash equilibrium</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=streets%20with%20unequal%20length%20model" title=" streets with unequal length model"> streets with unequal length model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=streets%20with%20unequal%20length%20model" title=" streets with unequal length model"> streets with unequal length model</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/102562/location-choice-of-firms-in-an-unequal-length-streets-model-game-theory-approach-as-an-extension-of-the-spoke-model" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/102562.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">203</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2661</span> Finding a Set of Long Common Substrings with Repeats from m Input Strings</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tiantian%20Li">Tiantian Li</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lusheng%20Wang"> Lusheng Wang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zhaohui%20Zhan"> Zhaohui Zhan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Daming%20Zhu"> Daming Zhu</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this paper, we propose two string problems, and study algorithms and complexity of various versions for those problems. Let S = {s₁, s₂, . . . , sₘ} be a set of m strings. A common substring of S is a substring appearing in every string in S. Given a set of m strings S = {s₁, s₂, . . . , sₘ} and a positive integer k, we want to find a set C of k common substrings of S such that the k common substrings in C appear in the same order and have no overlap among the m input strings in S, and the total length of the k common substring in C is maximized. This problem is referred to as the longest total length of k common substrings from m input strings (LCSS(k, m) for short). The other problem we study here is called the longest total length of a set of common substrings with length more than l from m input string (LSCSS(l, m) for short). Given a set of m strings S = {s₁, s₂, . . . , sₘ} and a positive integer l, for LSCSS(l, m), we want to find a set of common substrings of S, each is of length more than l, such that the total length of all the common substrings is maximized. We show that both problems are NP-hard when k and m are variables. We propose dynamic programming algorithms with time complexity O(k n₁n₂) and O(n₁n₂) to solve LCSS(k, 2) and LSCSS(l, 2), respectively, where n1 and n₂ are the lengths of the two input strings. We then design an algorithm for LSCSS(l, m) when every length > l common substring appears once in each of the m − 1 input strings. The running time is O(n₁²m), where n1 is the length of the input string with no restriction on length > l common substrings. Finally, we propose a fixed parameter algorithm for LSCSS(l, m), where each length > l common substring appears m − 1 + c times among the m − 1 input strings (other than s1). In other words, each length > l common substring may repeatedly appear at most c times among the m − 1 input strings {s₂, s₃, . . . , sₘ}. The running time of the proposed algorithm is O((n12ᶜ)²m), where n₁ is the input string with no restriction on repeats. The LSCSS(l, m) is proposed to handle whole chromosome sequence alignment for different strains of the same species, where more than 98% of letters in core regions are identical. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dynamic%20programming" title="dynamic programming">dynamic programming</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=algorithm" title=" algorithm"> algorithm</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=common%20substrings" title=" common substrings"> common substrings</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=string" title=" string"> string</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/193213/finding-a-set-of-long-common-substrings-with-repeats-from-m-input-strings" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/193213.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">15</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2660</span> Wettability Behavior of Organic Silane Molecules with Different Alkyl-Chain Length Coated Si Surface</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Takahiro%20Ishizaki">Takahiro Ishizaki</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shutaro%20Hisada"> Shutaro Hisada</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Oi%20Lun%20Li"> Oi Lun Li</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Control of surface wettability is very important in various industrial fields. Thus, contact angle hysteresis which is defined as the difference between advancing and receding water contact angles has been paid attention because the surface having low contact angle hysteresis can control wetting behavior of water droplet. Self-assembled monolayer (SAM) formed using organic silane molecules has been used to control surface wettability, in particular, static contact angles, however, the effect of alkyl-chain length in organic silane molecules on the contact angle hysteresis has not yet clarified. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effect of alkyl-chain length (C1-C18) in organic silane molecules on the contact angle hysteresis. SAMs were formed on Si wafer by thermal CVD method using silane coupling agents having different alkyl-chain length. The static water contact angles increased with an increase in the alkyl-chain length. On the other hand, although the water contact angle hysteresis tended to decrease with an increase in the alkyl-chain length, in case of the alkyl-chain length of more than C16 the contact angle hysteresis increased. This could be due to the decrease in the molecular mobility because of the increase in the molecular packing density in chemisorbed silane molecules. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=alkyl-chain%20length" title="alkyl-chain length">alkyl-chain length</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=self-assembled%20monolayer" title=" self-assembled monolayer"> self-assembled monolayer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=silane%20coupling%20agent" title=" silane coupling agent"> silane coupling agent</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=surface%20wettability" title=" surface wettability"> surface wettability</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/68943/wettability-behavior-of-organic-silane-molecules-with-different-alkyl-chain-length-coated-si-surface" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/68943.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">390</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2659</span> Use of Regression Analysis in Determining the Length of Plastic Hinge in Reinforced Concrete Columns</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mehmet%20Alpaslan%20K%C3%B6ro%C4%9Flu">Mehmet Alpaslan Köroğlu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Musa%20Hakan%20Arslan"> Musa Hakan Arslan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muslu%20Kaz%C4%B1m%20K%C3%B6rez"> Muslu Kazım Körez</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Basic objective of this study is to create a regression analysis method that can estimate the length of a plastic hinge which is an important design parameter, by making use of the outcomes of (lateral load-lateral displacement hysteretic curves) the experimental studies conducted for the reinforced square concrete columns. For this aim, 170 different square reinforced concrete column tests results have been collected from the existing literature. The parameters which are thought affecting the plastic hinge length such as cross-section properties, features of material used, axial loading level, confinement of the column, longitudinal reinforcement bars in the columns etc. have been obtained from these 170 different square reinforced concrete column tests. In the study, when determining the length of plastic hinge, using the experimental test results, a regression analysis have been separately tested and compared with each other. In addition, the outcome of mentioned methods on determination of plastic hinge length of the reinforced concrete columns has been compared to other methods available in the literature. <p
