The transition to online education platforms presented unprecedented challenges for the teachers. The aim of this research was to investigate the effects of the transition to online education on teachers\u0026amp;#39; wellbeing in India. Methods The research was conducted on 1812 teachers working in schools, colleges, and coaching institutions from six different Indian states. Quantitative and qualitative data was collected via online survey and telephone interviews. Results The results show that COVID pandemic exacerbated the existing widespread inequality in access to internet connectivity, smart devices, and teacher training required for an effective transition to an online mode of education. Teachers nonetheless adapted quickly to online teaching with the help of institutional training as well as self-learning tools. However, respondents expressed dissatisfaction with the effectiveness of online teaching and assessment methods, and exhibited a strong desire to return to traditional modes of learning. 82% respondents reported physical issues like neck pain, back pain, headache, and eyestrain. In this study, the objective was to examine a blueprint for online teaching activities and learn how to conduct online teaching with primary, secondary, and higher secondary-level teachers during this pandemic. In this case, the researcher developed online questionnaires using Google Forms for the collection of data from the teachers of Ahmedabad who participated in online instruction during the period of this study. Across all three levels of the school, the researcher found that a large majority of teachers prefer teaching students offline than online, as they were dealing with numerous problems while teaching. Since many students were facing issues like internet limitations, gadget size, and disturbance of other students, most teachers opt to teach both practical and theoretical subjects in the classroom rather than online. Finally, hammering the last nail, the survey researcher analyses show that many selected teachers agree that online courses can improve their efficiency in teaching experience, but the opposite is true as well: online teaching is on the rise. Considering this, an attempt has been made in the present study to understand how the school going children perceive the online education. The sample for the present study comprised of 404 students (209 females and 195 males) from the fifth, sixth and seventh standard. Questionnaire was developed by the researchers and the data was collected using google forms. Percentage analyses was carried out to analyse the data. Obtained results showed that students perceived the online mode of learning to be beneficial, it allowed them to continue with academics even during the lockdown and resulted in adequate free time to pursue their hobbies. However, on the other hands the students felt that they feel restless and experience headaches, eye strains etc because of the prolonged periods of screen time; another prominent issue that they faced was internet connectivity issues which resulted in the inability for students to concentrate during their classes. This was an unprecedented situation in Indian schools where virtual teaching was never the norm. The pace of this technical intervention was so fast that it practically brought an educational revolution in the country. This led the researcher to conduct a survey for the teachers as well as students with the objectives to understand : 1. The major challenges faced by both the teachers and students, 2. The opportunities offered by the online teaching platform, 3.The attributes of online classes that can enhance the learning process, and 4. The lessons to be learnt about the efficacy of virtual classes. Methods: A survey was conducted for more than 500 teachers and approximately 1700 students of ten schools in Delhi National Capital Region in India. A questionnaire was administered to them through google forms. These schools were geographically scattered in the national capital region of Delhi and cater to different socioeconomic backgrounds. Findings: Online teaching in Indian schools is still in its infancy and is gradually getting more popular since it is now the need of the hour. Technical issues are the biggest challenge for teachers and students and connectivity causes major problems. The pedagogy required for online teaching needs refinement. Both teachers and students have expressed that they have faced health issues with greater exposure to screen time. Absence of face-to-face interaction of teachers and students affects the teaching learning experience. Novelty: This study provided valuable insight into refining the practices of online teaching and learning, a hitherto less explored field, in Indian scenario.
