and a man<MG444> was there<MG1563> whose hand<MG5495> was withered<MG3583>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/3-2.htm"><b>2</b></a></span>And they were watching<MG3906> Him <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[a]</a></span>closely<MG3906> <i>to see</i> if<MG1487> He would heal<MG2323> him on the Sabbath<MG4521>, so<MG2443> that<MG2443> they might accuse<MG2723> Him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/3-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>He *said<MG3004> to the man<MG444> with the withered<MG3584> hand<MG5495>, “<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>Get<MG1453> up<MG1453> and come forward<MG1519, 3319>!” <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/3-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>And He *said<MG3004> to them, “Is it lawful<MG1832> to do<MG4160> good<MG18> on the Sabbath<MG4521> or<MG2228> to do<MG2554> harm<MG2554>, to save<MG4982> a life<MG5590> or<MG2228> to kill<MG615>?” But they kept<MG4623> silent<MG4623>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/3-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>After looking<MG4017> around<MG4017> at them with anger<MG3709>, grieved<MG4818> at their hardness<MG4457> of heart<MG2588>, He *said<MG3004> to the man<MG444>, “Stretch<MG1614> out<MG1614> your hand<MG5495>.” And he stretched<MG1614> it out<MG1614>, and his hand<MG5495> was restored<MG600>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/3-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>The Pharisees<MG5330> went<MG1831> out<MG1831> and immediately<MG2117> <i>began</i> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>conspiring<MG4824> with the Herodians<MG2265> against<MG2596> Him, <i>as to</i> how<MG3704> they might put<MG622> Him to<MG622> death<MG622>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/3-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>Jesus<MG2424> withdrew<MG402> to the sea<MG2281> with His disciples<MG3101>; and a large<MG4183> multitude<MG4128> from Galilee<MG1056> followed<MG190>, and <i>also</i> from Judea<MG2449>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/3-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>and from Jerusalem<MG2414>, and from Idumea<MG2401>, and beyond<MG4008> the Jordan<MG2446>, and the vicinity<MG4012> of Tyre<MG5184> and Sidon<MG4605>, a great<MG4183> number<MG4128> of<MG4128> people<MG4128> heard<MG191> about everything<MG3745> that He was doing<MG4160> and came<MG2064> to Him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/3-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>And He told<MG3004> His disciples<MG3101> <i>to see</i> that a boat<MG4142> would be ready<MG4342> for Him because<MG1223> of the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>masses<MG3793>, so<MG2443> that<MG2443> they would not crowd<MG2346> Him; <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/3-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>for He had healed<MG2323> many<MG4183>, with<MG5620> the<MG5620> result<MG5620> that<MG5620> all<MG3745> those who<MG3745> had<MG2192> diseases<MG3148> pushed<MG1968> in<MG1968> around<MG1968> Him in<MG2443> order<MG2443> to<MG2443> touch<MG681> Him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/3-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>And whenever<MG3752> the unclean<MG169> spirits<MG4151> saw<MG2334> Him, they would fall<MG4363> down<MG4363> before<MG4363> Him and shout<MG2896>, “You are the Son<MG5207> of God<MG2316>!” <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/3-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>And He strongly<MG4183> warned<MG2008> them not to <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>reveal<MG5318> who<MG846> He was. <p class="hdg">The Twelve Are Chosen</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/3-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>And He *went<MG305> up<MG305> on the mountain<MG3735> and *summoned<MG4341> those whom<MG3739> He Himself<MG846> wanted<MG2309>, and they came<MG565> to Him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/3-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>And He appointed<MG4160> twelve<MG1427>, so<MG2443> that<MG2443> they would be with Him and that He <i>could</i> send<MG649> them out<MG649> to preach<MG2784>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/3-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>and to have<MG2192> authority<MG1849> to cast<MG1544b> out<MG1544b> the demons<MG1140>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/3-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>And He appointed<MG4160> the twelve<MG1427>: Simon<MG4613> (to whom He gave<MG2007> the name<MG3686> Peter<MG4074>), <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/3-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span><span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>James<MG2385> the <i>son</i> of Zebedee<MG2199> and John<MG2491> the brother<MG80> of <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>James<MG2385> (to them He gave<MG2007> the name<MG3686> Boanerges<MG993>, which<MG3739> means<MG1510>, “Sons<MG5207> of Thunder<MG1027>”); <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/3-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>and Andrew<MG406>, Philip<MG5376>, Bartholomew<MG918>, Matthew<MG3102b>, Thomas<MG2381>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>James<MG2385> the son of Alphaeus<MG256b>, Thaddaeus<MG2280>, and Simon<MG4613> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>Zealot<MG2581>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/3-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>and Judas<MG2455> Iscariot<MG2469>, who<MG3739> also<MG2532> betrayed<MG3860> Him. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/3-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>And He *came<MG2064> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>home<MG3624>, and the crowd<MG3793> *gathered<MG4905> again<MG3825>, to<MG5620> such<MG5620> an<MG5620> extent<MG5620> that<MG5620> they could<MG1410> not even<MG3366> eat<MG2068> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>a meal<MG740>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/3-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>And when His own <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>people heard<MG191> <i>about this,</i> they came<MG1831> out<MG1831> to take<MG2902> custody<MG2902> of Him; for they were saying<MG3004>, “He has lost<MG1839> His senses<MG1839>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/3-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>The scribes<MG1122> who came<MG2597> down<MG2597> from Jerusalem<MG2414> were saying<MG3004>, “He <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>is possessed<MG2192> by <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>Beelzebul<MG954>,” and “He casts<MG1544b> out<MG1544b> the demons<MG1140> by the ruler<MG758> of the demons<MG1140>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/3-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>And <i>so</i> He called<MG4341> them to Himself and <i>began</i> speaking<MG3004> to them in parables<MG3850b>: “How<MG4459> can<MG1410> Satan<MG4567> cast<MG1544b> out<MG1544b> Satan<MG4567>? <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/3-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>And if<MG1437> a kingdom<MG932> is divided<MG3307> against<MG1909> itself<MG1438>, that kingdom<MG932> cannot<MG1410, 3756> stand<MG2476>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/3-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>If<MG1437> a house<MG3614> is divided<MG3307> against<MG1909> itself<MG1438>, that house<MG3614> will not be able<MG1410> to stand<MG2476>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/3-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>And if<MG1487> Satan<MG4567> has risen<MG450> up<MG450> against<MG1909> himself<MG1438> and is divided<MG3307>, he cannot<MG1410, 3756> stand<MG2476>, but <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>he is finished<MG5056>! <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/3-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>But no<MG3762> one<MG3762> can<MG1410> enter<MG1525> the strong<MG2478> man’s<MG2478> house<MG3614> and plunder<MG1283> his property<MG4632> unless<MG1437, 3361> he first<MG4413> ties<MG1210> up<MG1210> the strong<MG2478> man<MG2478>, and then<MG5119> he will plunder<MG1283> his house<MG3614>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/3-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>“Truly<MG281> I say<MG3004> to you, all<MG3956> sins<MG265> will be forgiven<MG863> the sons<MG5207> <i>and daughters</i> of men<MG444>, and whatever<MG3745, 1437> blasphemies<MG987, 988> they commit<MG987>;
