style="margin: 10px auto 20px auto;"> <p>FCC updates satellite spectrum sharing rules<br /> The Federal Communications Commission has revised its satellite spectrum sharing rules to enhance market entry, regulatory certainty, and spectrum efficiency. <br /> <br /> These changes focus on the non-geostationary satellite orbit fixed-satellite service (NGSO FSS) systems.<br /> <br /> Key updates include:<br /> <br /> • Clarification of Spectrum Sharing: Earlier-licensed systems maintain primary spectrum access, but newer entrants can operate within a cooperative sharing framework.<br /> • Protection Criteria: Adoption of a 3% time-weighted average throughput degradation for long-term interference protection and a 0.4% absolute increase in link unavailability for short-term protection.<br /> • Rejection of Additional Protections: The FCC declined to introduce new protection metrics or aggregate interference limits for later-round systems affecting earlier-round ones.<br /> • Affirmation of Sunset Period: A 10-year sunset period remains for inter-round protection requirements, following the dismissal of a petition for reconsideration by OneWeb.<br /> <br /> The updates align with the FCC’s broader efforts to streamline regulatory processes, increase competition, and modernise spectrum policies in response to growing demand in the satellite broadband sector.<br /> <br /> “The FCC has made real progress to modernize its space policies to ensure U.S. leadership,” said FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel. “Today’s update to our satellite spectrum sharing rules allows first movers to enjoy the advantage they’ve earned by daring to think big and take on risk, while also opening our skies to more competition.”</p> <br> <hr> <div
