rel="noopener">Equinix</a> will procure power under a captive arrangement from 33 MW renewable energy projects to be set up by <a href="https://www.cleanmax.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">CleanMax</a> to power its data centers in India.</p> <p>The captive power projects to be developed in Maharashtra comprise 26.4 MW of solar and 6.6 MW of wind power. After commissioning, the projects will supply renewable energy for Equinix鈥檚 International Business Exchange data centers in Mumbai.</p> <p>The two companies have signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) for the projects, which will be operational in phases in 2025. This is Equinix鈥檚 first PPA in India.</p> <p>Earlier in 2024, the company had signed PPAs in Australia and Singapore. With the addition of this new PPA in India, Equinix has now executed 23 PPAs globally. Once operational, these agreements are expected to contribute over 3,100,000 MWh of renewable energy annually to local grids across the U.S., Australia, France, Finland, India, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and Singapore.</p> <p>In addition, Equinix鈥檚 Energy Efficiency program focuses on reducing the energy consumption of its infrastructure, which can be monitored through a reduction in Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE).聽 Globally, Equinix invested $77.5 million in energy efficiency projects in 2023, reducing annual energy consumption by 66,862 MWh and improving PUE by 8.8% year-over-year.</p></div> <div class="styles_article__xTEpa"> <p>According to its Sustainability Report for 2023, Equinix met 96% of its power needs from renewable energy sources and has set a target to scale it to 100% by 2030. It also reduced operational emissions by 24%.</p> <p>The company has signed 1 GW of PPAs and entered into long-term contracts, with 225 MW operational today and 838 MW being developed between 2024 and 2029.</p> <p>CleanMax, which has a portfolio of over 2 GW of operating renewable assets servicing over 400 clients, intends to explore broader sustainability solutions for the digital infrastructure company鈥檚 upcoming AI-ready data centers across India and the globe.</p> <p>In October 2024, Google <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/google-partners-with-cleanmax-adani-for-renewable-energy-supply" target="_blank" rel="noopener">partnered</a> with Adani Group and CleanMax Enviro Energy Solutions to power its offices in India with renewable energy.</p> <p>In the same month, Mumbai-based solar glass manufacturer Borosil Renewables also <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/borosil-to-procure-16-5-wind-from-clean-max-prithvi" target="_blank" rel="noopener">agreed</a> to procure wind-solar hybrid power from a 16.5 MW project to be With the addition of this new PPA in India, Equinix has now executed 23 PPAs globally. Once operational, these agreements are expected to contribute over 3,100,000 MWh of renewable energy annually to local grids across the U.S., Australia, France, Finland, India, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and Singapore.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn addition, Equinix鈥檚 Energy Efficiency program focuses on reducing the energy consumption of its infrastructure, which can be monitored through a reduction in Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE).聽 Globally, Equinix invested $77.5 million in energy efficiency projects in 2023, reducing annual energy consumption by 66,862 MWh and improving PUE by 8.8% year-over-year.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAccording to its Sustainability Report for 2023, Equinix met 96% of its power needs from renewable energy sources and has set a target to scale it to 100% by 2030.
