You’ll find the domain name to the left of the last dot in a web address. The Doman name helps web browsers (eg Chrome, Safari, Internet Explorer) locate content and information on the internet.</p> <h7>What is ICANN?</h7> <p>The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is an international non-profit that coordinates and regulates the internet’s domain name system, and is dedicated to maintaining the security and stability of the Internet. In 2012, ICANN made it possible for organizations to apply for new TLDs covering everything from generic activities and interests, to brands and to cities.</p> <h7>Why expand the number of TLD’s?</h7> <p>An internet with more diverse domain names allows us to tell the kind of content housed at a website from looking at the TLD. This means more organized, meaningful and secure online browsing.</p> <h7>What is a Registry?</h7> <p>A Registry is the organization under contract with ICANN to operate a TLD.</p> <h7>How is dotBroadway different to other TLD’s, such as “dot coms”?</h7> <p>Anyone can obtain a “dot com” domain name as they are available on a first-come-first-served basis and there are no qualification requirements. However only full members of The Broadway League, the national trade association for the Broadway industry, can apply for and use a dotBroadway domain name. The Broadway League has strict membership eligibility requirements, and all dotBroadway websites undergo strict verification procedures.</p> <h7>How do I tell who owns a website?</h7> <p>Website operators are listed in WHOIS, an informational database.
