Retrieved Dec 03 2024 from <a href="https://www.thefreelibrary.com/UCE+hosting+Midlands+showcase+for+the+best+talent+in+short+film...-a0165544854">https://www.thefreelibrary.com/UCE+hosting+Midlands+showcase+for+the+best+talent+in+short+film...-a0165544854</a></span></li> </ul> </div> Regional filmmakers are being invited to submit their short film to a Midland festival dedicated to celebrating the best of all budgets and backgrounds. <BR><BR> Short-listed entries to the Midlands' Cinematic 2007 short film festival will be shown on the giant screen of the IMAX Cinema in Birmingham in October. <BR><BR> Organised for the fifth year by the University of Central England's Technology Innovation Centre (TIC), Cinematic looks for entries to push the boundaries of short film. <BR><BR> Festival director, Stephen Gordon from the TIC, said: "Cinematic exists to encourage innovation in short film-making, irrespective of production budget. <BR><BR> "Our judges will be looking at how this is demonstrated in student and independent productions, as well as in funded films from established production companies." <BR><BR> Entries to the festival must be no more than ten minutes long. Categories include drama, documentary, animation and experimental. There will be awards in each section as well as for the best student film and a prize for the most innovative film. Last year this went to The Fool Looks At The Finger That Points To The Sky - an animation about the life of a wooden puppet drawn into a chaotic world - created by Midlands filmmaker Aaron Bradbury. <BR><BR> A people's choice award will also enable the festival's audience to vote for their favourite film. <BR><BR> Mr Gordon said: "There is a rich social and cultural tapestry across the Midlands to inspire new film-makers. The time and budgetary constraints of short-film production encourage film-makers to be rigorous with their content, engendering high levels of imagination and innovation."
