href='/companies/B/Buchanan_Street_Extension_Caledonian_Railway/'>Buchanan Street Extension (Caledonian Railway)</a>.<br> <h4>Description</h4><p class='text-justify'>This two road locomotive shed was just outside <a href="/locations/B/Buchanan_Street/">Buchanan Street</a> station. It was on the north east side of Dobbies Loan and the north west side of the railway between the station and <a href="/locations/B/Buchanan_Street_Tunnel/">Buchanan Street Tunnel</a>. There was a trailing connection to the railway at the point where the fan out of lines to the passenger station and <a href="/locations/B/Buchanan_Street_Goods/">Buchanan Street Goods</a> began. A small 20ft turntable was located north of the shed lines. Latterly entry to the shed was over the turntable and there were single sidings on either side of the shed.<br> <br> A new shed opened at <a href="/locations/S/St_Rollox_Works_Shed/">St Rollox Works Shed</a> around 1855 and by 1916 when <a href="/locations/B/Balornock_Shed/">Balornock Shed</a> opened the main use of the old shed was to house the Buchanan Street pilot engines. Although the shed was gone by the early 1950s, the turntable remained in use until the closure of <a href="/locations/B/Buchanan_Street/">Buchanan Street</a> in 1966 when <a href="/locations/B/Balornock_Shed/">Balornock Shed</a> was also to close.<br> <br> The site is now Caledonian Court, student accommodation of the Glasgow Caledonian University.<br> <br> The <a href="/locations/B/Broomhill_Foundry/">Broomhill Foundry</a> was on the north west side of the shed, located on Canal Street (named for the Cut of Junction which linked the <a href="/companies/F/Forth_and_Clyde_Canal/">Forth and Clyde Canal</a> and <a href="/companies/M/Monkland_Canal/">Monkland Canal</a>.
