The <em>N</em>-protected indoles have been prepared under moderate and scalable electrolytic conditions. The conduct of the reactions was performed in a simple divided cell under constant current without oxidizing reagents or transition-metal catalysts. The synthesized products have been characterized via UV/Vis spectrophotometry, 1H-NMR, and FTIR spectroscopy. A possible reaction mechanism is discussed based on the <em>N</em>-protective products. This methodology could be applied to the synthesis of various biologically active <em>N</em>-substituted indole derivatives. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=green%20chemistry" title="green chemistry">green chemistry</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=1H-indole" title=" 1H-indole"> 1H-indole</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=heteroaromatic" title=" heteroaromatic"> heteroaromatic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=organic%20electrosynthesis" title=" organic electrosynthesis"> organic electrosynthesis</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/129536/green-smooth-and-easy-electrochemical-synthesis-of-n-protected-indole-derivatives" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/129536.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">161</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">47</span> DNA Intercalating Alkaloids Isolated from Chelidonium majus (Papaveraceae)</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohamed%20Tamer">Mohamed Tamer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wink%20Michael"> Wink Michael</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> DNA intercalating agents increase the stability of DNA which can be demonstrated by measuring the melting temperature Tm. Tm can be determined in a spectrophotometer in which the cell temperature is increased gradually. The resulting absorption data comes as a sigmoidal curve from which melting temperature can be determined when half of the DNA has denatured. The current study aims to assess DNA intercalating activities of four pure bioactive isoquinoline alkaloids: sanguinarine, berberine, allocryptopine, and chelerythrine which were isolated from Chelidonium majus (Papaveraceae) by repeated silica gel column chromatography, recrystallization and preparative TLC. The isolated compounds were identified by comparing their physical properties and mass spectra with those of the published data. The results showed that sanguiarine is the most active intercalating agent with Tm value of 83.55 ± 0.49 followed by berberine, chelerythrine, and allocryptopine with Tm values 62.58 ± 0.47, 51.38 ± 0.37 and 50.94 ± 0.65, respectively, relative to 49.78 ± 1.05 of bacteriophage DNA alone and 86.09 ± 0.5 for ethidium bromide as a positive control. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=alkaloids" title="alkaloids">alkaloids</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chelidonium%20majus" title=" Chelidonium majus"> Chelidonium majus</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=DNA%20intercalation" title=" DNA intercalation"> DNA intercalation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tm" title=" Tm"> Tm</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/32200/dna-intercalating-alkaloids-isolated-from-chelidonium-majus-papaveraceae" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/32200.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">501</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">46</span> The Implications of Person-Organisation Spirituality Fit on Employees’ Ethical and Spiritual Leadership Behaviours: Insights from Jordan</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tamer%20Koburtay">Tamer Koburtay</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Radi%20Haloub"> Radi Haloub</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Person-Organization fit theory concerns how people flourish in a workplace that is congruence with their values and other traits. This paper seeks to highlight the theoretical relevance that workplace spirituality may add to the existing theory development of the P-O fit. In specific, it aims to empirically test the emerged framework that encompasses how workplace and self-spirituality match may enhance the perceived P-O fit, and how such a fit can enhance both employees’ ethical behaviors (i.e., humanism and honesty) and spiritual leadership behaviors. Drawing on a survey of the private and public sectors in Jordan, the results reveal that increasing the match in workplace and employees’ spirituality positively enhances the perceived P-O fit. Further, ethical and spiritual behaviors were found to be positively linked with a higher P-O fit. The importance of this paper is by generating a concept (i.e., P-O spirituality fit) beyond the already vast literature on P-O fit. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ethical%20behavior" title="ethical behavior">ethical behavior</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=leadership" title=" leadership"> leadership</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=P-O%20fit" title=" P-O fit"> P-O fit</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spirituality" title=" spirituality"> spirituality</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=leadership" title=" leadership"> leadership</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/92844/the-implications-of-person-organisation-spirituality-fit-on-employees-ethical-and-spiritual-leadership-behaviours-insights-from-jordan" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/92844.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">156</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">45</span> Bacteria Immobilized Electrospun Fibrous Biocomposites for Cr (VI) Remediation in Water</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Omer%20Faruk%20Sarioglu">Omer Faruk Sarioglu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Asli%20Celebioglu"> Asli Celebioglu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Turgay%20Tekinay"> Turgay Tekinay</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tamer%20Uyar"> Tamer Uyar</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Fibrous biocomposites were developed by immobilization of a Cr(VI) reducing bacterial strain, morganella morganii STB5, on electrospun polystyrene (PS) and polysulfone (PSU) webs. Cr(VI) removal characteristics of STB5/PS and STB5/PSU fibrous biocomposites were determined at 25 mg L-1 of initial Cr(VI) and 70.41% and 68.27% of removal were observed within 72 h, respectively. Reusability test results indicate that both biocomposites are potentially reusable and can be used for at least 5 cycles. After storage test results suggest that the biocomposites can be stored awhile without losing their Cr(VI) bioremoval capabilities. SEM images of STB5 immobilized PS and PSU webs after the reusability test exhibit strong attachment of bacterial biofilms onto fibrous surfaces. Our results are quite promising and suggesting that reusable bacteria immobilized electrospun fibrous biocomposites might be applicable for Cr(VI) remediation in water systems. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electrospinning" title="electrospinning">electrospinning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=polystyrene" title=" polystyrene"> polystyrene</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=polysulfone" title=" polysulfone"> polysulfone</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cr%28VI%29%20bioremoval" title=" Cr(VI) bioremoval"> Cr(VI) bioremoval</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=environmental%20sustainability" title=" environmental sustainability"> environmental sustainability</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/25210/bacteria-immobilized-electrospun-fibrous-biocomposites-for-cr-vi-remediation-in-water" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/25210.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">561</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">44</span> Lyapunov-Based Tracking Control for Nonholonomic Wheeled Mobile Robot</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Raouf%20Fareh">Raouf Fareh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maarouf%20Saad"> Maarouf Saad</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sofiane%20Khadraoui"> Sofiane Khadraoui</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tamer%20Rabie"> Tamer Rabie </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper presents a tracking control strategy based on Lyapunov approach for nonholonomic wheeled mobile robot. This control strategy consists of two levels. First, a kinematic controller is developed to adjust the right and left wheel velocities. Using this velocity control law, the stability of the tracking error is guaranteed using Lyapunov approach. This kinematic controller cannot be generated directly by the motors. To overcome this problem, the second level of the controllers, dynamic control, is designed. This dynamic control law is developed based on Lyapunov theory in order to track the desired trajectories of the mobile robot. The stability of the tracking error is proved using Lupunov and Barbalat approaches. Simulation results on a nonholonomic wheeled mobile robot are given to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the presented approach. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mobile%20robot" title="mobile robot">mobile robot</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=trajectory%20tracking" title=" trajectory tracking"> trajectory tracking</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lyapunov" title=" Lyapunov"> Lyapunov</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stability" title=" stability"> stability</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/50751/lyapunov-based-tracking-control-for-nonholonomic-wheeled-mobile-robot" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/50751.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">373</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">43</span> Does sustainability disclosure improve analysts’ forecast accuracy Evidence from European banks</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Albert%20Acheampong">Albert Acheampong</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tamer%20Elshandidy"> Tamer Elshandidy</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> We investigate the extent to which sustainability disclosure from the narrative section of European banks’ annual reports improves analyst forecast accuracy. Our results suggest that sustainability disclosure significantly improves analyst forecast accuracy by reducing the forecast error. In a further analysis, we also find that the induction of Directive 2014/95/European Union (EU) is associated with increased disclosure content, which then reduces forecast error. Collectively, our results suggest that sustainability disclosure improves forecast accuracy, and the induction of the new EU directive strengthens this improvement. These results hold after several further and robustness analyses. We are fortunate that a huge number of metal artifacts from the industry of Egypt and Syria of this period have come down to us, many of which are preserved in Egyptian and international museums as well as private collections. Characterized by great diversity in its forms, sizes and functions, including the decorative designs executed on them, the artifacts reflected the extent of artistic creativity that characterized the arts in the two Mamluk period. This research paper aims to study three copper dishes from the Mamluk Circassian period and the rare documentary texts on them that have not been previously studied. These dishes date back to different decades from the 9th AH/15 AD century. One of them bears the name of Sultan Al-Muayyad Shaikh, and the second is the name of one of the great Mamluk princes in the Mamluk Circassian period, Prince Yashbak min Mahdi. The third dish is attributed to Prince Jan Balat Al-Ashrafie. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=metalwork" title="metalwork">metalwork</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dishes" title=" dishes"> dishes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=decorative" title=" decorative"> decorative</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=calligraphy" title=" calligraphy"> calligraphy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mamluk%20Arts" title=" Mamluk Arts"> Mamluk Arts</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/167273/an-artistic-study-of-three-rare-tennded-copper-dishes-from-the-mamluk-circassian-period-784-923-ah-1382-1517-ce" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/167273.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">81</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">41</span> The Role of Neuroserpin in Rheumatoid Arthritis Patients</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sevil%20Arabaci%20Tamer">Sevil Arabaci Tamer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Gonul%20Gurol"> Gonul Gurol</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ibrahim%20Tekeoglu"> Ibrahim Tekeoglu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Halil%20Harman"> Halil Harman</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ihsan%20Hakki%20Ciftci"> Ihsan Hakki Ciftci</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Neuroserpin (NSP) is a serine protease inhibitor and member of the serpin family. It is expressed in developing and adult nervous systems, and acts as an inhibitor of protease tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) and a regulator of neuronal growth and plasticity. Also NSP displays anti-inflammatory activity. But, its role in rheumatoid arthritis had never been studied before. So, the aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of neuroserpin in patients with RA. A total of 50 frozen (-20 ºC) serum samples 40 of them belonged to patients with RA, and 10 sample belonged to healthy subjects, were enrolled prospectively. We used DAS-28 to evaluate disease activity. The following clinical data gathered from the original patients' charts. Serum neuroserpin levels were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Our preliminary study results demonstrate, for the first time, that NSP levels are significantly different in RA patients relative to healthy subjects (P = 0.014). So, NSP contribute to pathological condition of RA. Thus, we believe that serum NSP levels can be as a marker in patients with RA. However other inflammatory diseases should be further investigated. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=neuroserpin" title="neuroserpin">neuroserpin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=rheumatoid%20arthritis" title=" rheumatoid arthritis"> rheumatoid arthritis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tPA" title=" tPA"> tPA</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tPA%20inhibitor" title=" tPA inhibitor "> tPA inhibitor </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/25059/the-role-of-neuroserpin-in-rheumatoid-arthritis-patients" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/25059.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">471</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">40</span> Optimization of Cutting Forces in Drilling of Polimer Composites via Taguchi Methodology</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Eser%20Yarar">Eser Yarar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fahri%20Vatansever"> Fahri Vatansever</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=A.%20Tamer%20Erturk"> A. Conventional drilling methods have low cost and ease of use. Therefore, it is one of the most preferred machining methods. The increasing range of use of composite materials in many areas has led to the investigation of the machinability performance of these materials. The drilling capability of the synthetic polymer composite material was investigated by measuring the cutting forces using different tool diameters, feed rate and high cutting speed parameters. Cutting forces were measured using a dynamometer in the experiments. In order to evaluate the results of the experiment, the Taguchi experimental design method was used. According to the results, the optimum cutting parameters were obtained for 0.1 mm/rev, 1070 rpm and 2 mm diameter drill bit. Verification tests were performed for the optimum cutting parameters obtained according to the model. Verification experiments showed the success of the established model. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cutting%20force" title="cutting force">cutting force</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=drilling" title=" drilling"> drilling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=polimer%20composite" title=" polimer composite"> polimer composite</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Taguchi" title=" Taguchi"> Taguchi</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/102883/optimization-of-cutting-forces-in-drilling-of-polimer-composites-via-taguchi-methodology" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/102883.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">162</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">39</span> Modeling of Oligomerization of Ethylene in a Falling film Reactor for the Production of Linear Alpha Olefins</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Adil%20A.%20Mohammed">Adil A. A computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model was established. In order to reveal these features of the combustion process in a fixed porous bed of MSW. Transporting equations and process rate equations of the waste bed were modeled and set up to describe the incineration process, according to the local thermal conditions and waste property characters. Gas phase turbulence was modeled using k-ε turbulent model and the particle phase was modeled using the kinetic theory of granular flow. The heterogeneous reaction rates were determined using Arrhenius eddy dissipation and the Arrhenius-diffusion reaction rates. The effects of primary air flow rate and temperature in the burning process of simulated MSW are investigated experimentally and numerically. The simulation results in bed are accordant with experimental data well. The model provides detailed information on burning processes in the fixed bed, which is otherwise very difficult to obtain by conventional experimental techniques. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=computational%20fluid%20dynamics%20%28CFD%29%20model" title="computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model">computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=waste%20incineration" title=" waste incineration"> waste incineration</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=municipal%20solid%20waste%20%28MSW%29" title=" municipal solid waste (MSW)"> municipal solid waste (MSW)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fixed%20bed" title=" fixed bed"> fixed bed</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=primary%20air" title=" primary air "> primary air </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/18091/cfd-study-on-the-effect-of-primary-air-on-combustion-of-simulated-msw-process-in-the-fixed-bed" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/18091.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">402</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">37</span> Performance Evaluation and Dear Based Optimization on Machining Leather Specimens to Reduce Carbonization</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Khaja%20Moiduddin">Khaja Moiduddin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tamer%20Khalaf"> Tamer Khalaf</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muthuramalingam%20Thangaraj"> Muthuramalingam Thangaraj</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Due to the variety of benefits over traditional cutting techniques, the usage of laser cutting technology has risen substantially in recent years. Hot wire machining can cut the leather in the required shape by controlling the wire by generating thermal energy. In the present study, an attempt has been made to investigate the effects of performance measures in the hot wire machining process on cutting leather specimens. Carbonization and material removal rates were considered as quality indicators. Burning leather during machining might cause carbon particles, reducing product quality. Minimizing the effect of carbon particles is crucial for assuring operator and environmental safety, health, and product quality. Hot wire machining can efficiently cut the specimens by controlling the current through it. Taguchi- DEAR-based optimization was also performed in the process, which resulted in a required Carbonization and material removal rate. Using the DEAR approach, the optimal parameters of the present study were found with 3.7% prediction error accuracy. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cabronization" title="cabronization">cabronization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=leather" title=" leather"> leather</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=MRR" title=" MRR"> MRR</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=current" title=" current"> current</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/178081/performance-evaluation-and-dear-based-optimization-on-machining-leather-specimens-to-reduce-carbonization" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/178081.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">64</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">36</span> Load Bearing Capacity and Operational Effectiveness of Single Shear Joints of CFRP Composite Laminate with Spread Tow Thin Plies</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tabrej%20Khan">Tabrej Khan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tamer%20A.%20Sebaey"> Tamer A. There is wide use of composite bolted joints in the aircraft industry for load-bearing structures, and they are regarded as the primary source of stress concentration. The purpose of this study is to look into the bearing strength and structural performance of single shear bolt joint configurations in composite laminates, which are basically a combination of conventional thin-plies and thick-plies in some specific stacking sequence. The placement effect of thin-ply within the configured stack on bearing strength, as well as the potential damages, were investigated. Mechanical tests were used to understand the disfigurement mechanisms of the plies and their reciprocity, as well as to reflect on the single shear bolt joint properties and its load-bearing capacity. The results showed that changing the configuration of laminates by inserting the thin plies inside improved the bearing strength by up to 19%. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hybrid%20composites" title="hybrid composites">hybrid composites</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=delamination" title=" delamination"> delamination</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stress%20concentrations" title=" stress concentrations"> stress concentrations</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mechanical%20testing" title=" mechanical testing"> mechanical testing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=single%20bolt%20joint" title=" single bolt joint"> single bolt joint</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=thin-plies" title=" thin-plies"> thin-plies</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/183273/load-bearing-capacity-and-operational-effectiveness-of-single-shear-joints-of-cfrp-composite-laminate-with-spread-tow-thin-plies" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/183273.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">64</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">35</span> Tombs Covers "Kiswa" in Ottoman Period</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tamer%20Mokhtar%20Mohamed%20Ahmed">Tamer Mokhtar Mohamed Ahmed</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Throughout the ages the Caliphs, Sultans and rulers have paid great care to tomb covers and in particular to the cover of the tomb of the Prophet Muhammad as well as other prophets. For that purpose they established waqfs and ensured that the covers appeared in the most magnificent manner to befit their purpose, as we can see in the beautiful examples in museums across the world. In fact tomb covers are some of the most beautiful examples of Islamic art in their detail of craftsmanship which have made them great works of art. It became the custom that the Kiswa or the tomb covers were made of silk or satin with gold and silver threads. Museums across the word preserve examples of the highest craftsmanship of tomb covers produced in the capital of the Ottomans and other capital cities, all differing in their designs or colors reflecting the work of the individual cities like Cairo, Istanbul or Bursa. Other than the cover for the tomb of the Prophet, many other tomb covers were produced for the tombs of other prophets and their wives in Hebron. In addition tomb covers were made for the sufi saints as well as for the Ottoman sultans and for their wives and children. Its role has also been linked to radiotherapy and associated gastrointestinal injuries, where the microbial dysbiosis could be the driving force for dose determination or the complete suspension of the treatment protocol. Linking the gut microbiota alterations to different cancer treatment protocols is not easy especially in humans. However, enormous effort was exerted to understand this complex relationship. In the current study, we described the gut microbiota dysbiosis in pediatric sarcoma patients, in the pelvic region, with regards to radiotherapy and antibiotics. Fecal samples were collected as a source of microbial DNA for which the gene encoding for V3-V5 regions of 16S rRNA was sequenced. Two of the three patients understudy had experienced an increase in alpha diversity post exposure to 50.4 Gy. Although phylum Firmicutes overall relative abundance has generally decreased, six of its taxa increased in all patients. Our results may indicate the possibility of radiosensitivity or enrichment of the antibiotic resistance of the elevated taxa. Further studies are needed to describe the extent of radiosensitivity with regards to antibiotic resistance. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=combined%20radiotherapy%20and%20chemotherapy" title="combined radiotherapy and chemotherapy">combined radiotherapy and chemotherapy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gut%20microbiome" title=" gut microbiome"> gut microbiome</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pediatric%20cancer" title=" pediatric cancer"> pediatric cancer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=radiosensitivity" title=" radiosensitivity"> radiosensitivity</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/99183/effect-of-radiotherapychemotherapy-protocol-on-the-gut-microbiome-in-pediatric-cancer-patients" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/99183.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">151</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">33</span> Functional Properties of Sunflower Protein Concentrates Extracted Using Different Anti-greening Agents - Low-Fat Whipping Cream Preparation</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tamer%20M.%20El-Messery">Tamer M. However, challenges such as sensory drawbacks and the presence of phenolic compounds have hindered their widespread use. In this study, sunflower protein concentrates were obtained from sunflower cakes using different ant-greening solvents (ascorbic acid (ASC) and N-acetylcysteine (NAC)), and their functional properties were evaluated. The color of extracted proteins ranged from dark green to yellow, where the using of ASC and NAC agents enhanced the color. The protein concentrates exhibited high solubility (>70%) and antioxidant activity, with hydrophobicity influencing emulsifying activity. Emulsions prepared with these proteins showed stability and microencapsulation efficiency. Incorporation of protein concentrates into low-fat whipping cream formulations increased overrun and affected color characteristics. Rheological studies demonstrated pseudoplastic behavior in whipped cream, influenced by shear rates and protein content. Overall, sunflower protein isolates showed promising functional properties, indicating their potential as valuable ingredients in food formulations. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=functional%20properties" title="functional properties">functional properties</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sunflower%20protein%20concentrates" title=" sunflower protein concentrates"> sunflower protein concentrates</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=antioxidant%20capacity" title=" antioxidant capacity"> antioxidant capacity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ant-greening%20agents" title=" ant-greening agents"> ant-greening agents</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=low-fat%20whipping%20cream" title=" low-fat whipping cream"> low-fat whipping cream</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/185953/functional-properties-of-sunflower-protein-concentrates-extracted-using-different-anti-greening-agents-low-fat-whipping-cream-preparation" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/185953.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">48</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">32</span> Deep Supervision Based-Unet to Detect Buildings Changes from VHR Aerial Imagery</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shimaa%20Holail">Shimaa Holail</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tamer%20Saleh"> Tamer Saleh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Xiongwu%20Xiao"> Xiongwu Xiao</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Building change detection (BCD) from satellite imagery is an essential topic in urbanization monitoring, agricultural land management, and updating geospatial databases. Recently, methods for detecting changes based on deep learning have made significant progress and impressive results. However, it has the problem of being insensitive to changes in buildings with complex spectral differences, and the features being extracted are not discriminatory enough, resulting in incomplete buildings and irregular boundaries. To overcome these problems, we propose a dual Siamese network based on the Unet model with the addition of a deep supervision strategy (DS) in this paper. This network consists of a backbone (encoder) based on ImageNet pre-training, a fusion block, and feature pyramid networks (FPN) to enhance the step-by-step information of the changing regions and obtain a more accurate BCD map. To train the proposed method, we created a new dataset (EGY-BCD) of high-resolution and multi-temporal aerial images captured over New Cairo in Egypt to detect building changes for this purpose. The experimental results showed that the proposed method is effective and performs well with the EGY-BCD dataset regarding the overall accuracy, F1-score, and mIoU, which were 91.6 %, 80.1 %, and 73.5 %, respectively. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=building%20change%20detection" title="building change detection">building change detection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=deep%20supervision" title=" deep supervision"> deep supervision</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=semantic%20segmentation" title=" semantic segmentation"> semantic segmentation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=EGY-BCD%20dataset" title=" EGY-BCD dataset"> EGY-BCD dataset</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/154993/deep-supervision-based-unet-to-detect-buildings-changes-from-vhr-aerial-imagery" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/154993.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">120</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">31</span> Improving Oxidative Stability of Encapsulated Krill and Black Cumin Oils and its Application in Functional Yogurt</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tamer%20El-Messery">Tamer El-Messery</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Beraat%20%20Ozcelik"> Beraat Ozcelik</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This study aimed to produce functional yogurt supplemented with microencapsulated krill oil as a source of omega 3, which is known, to maintain the normal brain function, reduce the risk of cancer, and preventing cardiovascular disease. Krill oil was mixed with black cumin oil (1:1) in order to increase its oxidative stability. β-caroteine (10 mg/100 ml) was used as a standard antioxidant. Maltodextrin (MD) was mixed with whey protein concentrate (WPC) and gum Arabic (GA) at the ratio of 8:2:0.5 ratios and used for microencapsulation of single or mixed oils. The microcapsules were dried by freeze and spray drying in order to maximize encapsulation efficiency and minimize lipid oxidation. The feed emulsions used for particle production were characterized for stability, viscosity and particle size, zeta potential, and oxidative stability. The oxidative stability for mixed krill oil and black cumin oil was the highest. The highest encapsulation efficiency was obtained using spray drying, which also showed the highest oxidative stability. The addition of encapsulated krill and black cumin oils (1:1) powder in yogurt manufacture reduced slightly effects on the development of acidity, textural parameters, and water holding capacity of yogurt as compared to control. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Krill%20oil" title="Krill oil">Krill oil</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=black%20cumin%20oil" title=" black cumin oil"> black cumin oil</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=micro-encapsulation" title=" micro-encapsulation"> micro-encapsulation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=oxidative%20stability" title=" oxidative stability"> oxidative stability</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=functional%20yogurt" title=" functional yogurt"> functional yogurt</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/117292/improving-oxidative-stability-of-encapsulated-krill-and-black-cumin-oils-and-its-application-in-functional-yogurt" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/117292.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">107</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">30</span> Multichannel Surface Electromyography Trajectories for Hand Movement Recognition Using Intrasubject and Intersubject Evaluations</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Christina%20Adly">Christina Adly</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Meena%20Abdelmeseeh"> Meena Abdelmeseeh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tamer%20Basha"> Tamer Basha</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper proposes a system for hand movement recognition using multichannel surface EMG(sEMG) signals obtained from 40 subjects using 40 different exercises, which are available on the Ninapro(Non-Invasive Adaptive Prosthetics) database. First, we applied processing methods to the raw sEMG signals to convert them to their amplitudes. Second, we used deep learning methods to solve our problem by passing the preprocessed signals to Fully connected neural networks(FCNN) and recurrent neural networks(RNN) with Long Short Term Memory(LSTM). Using intrasubject evaluation, The accuracy using the FCNN is 72%, with a processing time for training around 76 minutes, and for RNN's accuracy is 79.9%, with 8 minutes and 22 seconds processing time. Third, we applied some postprocessing methods to improve the accuracy, like majority voting(MV) and Movement Error Rate(MER). The accuracy after applying MV is 75% and 86% for FCNN and RNN, respectively. The MER value has an inverse relationship with the prediction delay while varying the window length for measuring the MV. The different part uses the RNN with the intersubject evaluation. The experimental results showed that to get a good accuracy for testing with reasonable processing time, we should use around 20 subjects. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hand%20movement%20recognition" title="hand movement recognition">hand movement recognition</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=recurrent%20neural%20network" title=" recurrent neural network"> recurrent neural network</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=movement%20error%20rate" title=" movement error rate"> movement error rate</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=intrasubject%20evaluation" title=" intrasubject evaluation"> intrasubject evaluation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=intersubject%20evaluation" title=" intersubject evaluation"> intersubject evaluation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/149564/multichannel-surface-electromyography-trajectories-for-hand-movement-recognition-using-intrasubject-and-intersubject-evaluations" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/149564.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">142</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">29</span> Auditory and Language Skills Development after Cochlear Implantation in Children with Multiple Disabilities</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tamer%20Mesallam">Tamer Mesallam</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Medhat%20Yousef"> Medhat Yousef</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ayna%20Almasaad"> Ayna Almasaad</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> BACKGROUND: Cochlear implantation (CI) in children with additional disabilities can be a fundamental and supportive intervention. Although, there may be some positive impacts of CI on children with multiple disabilities such as better outcomes of communication skills, development, and quality of life, the families of those children complain from the post-implant habilitation efforts that considered as a burden. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the outcomes of CI children with different co-disabilities through using the Meaningful Auditory Integration Scale (MAIS) and the Meaningful Use of Speech Scale (MUSS) as outcome measurement tools. METHODS: The study sample comprised 25 hearing-impaired children with co-disability who received cochlear implantation. Age and gender-matched control group of 25 cochlear-implanted children without any other disability has been also included. The participants' auditory skills and speech outcomes were assessed using MAIS and MUSS tests. RESULTS: There was a statistically significant difference in the different outcomes measure between the two groups. However, the outcomes of some multiple disabilities subgroups were comparable to the control group. Around 40% of the participants with co-disabilities experienced advancement in their methods of communication from behavior to oral mode. CONCLUSION: Cochlear-implanted children with multiple disabilities showed variable degrees of auditory and speech outcomes. The degree of benefits depends on the type of the co-disability. Long-term follow-up is recommended for those children. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=children%20with%20disabilities" title="children with disabilities">children with disabilities</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cochlear%20implants" title=" Cochlear implants"> Cochlear implants</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hearing%20impairment" title=" hearing impairment"> hearing impairment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=language%20development" title=" language development"> language development</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/120465/auditory-and-language-skills-development-after-cochlear-implantation-in-children-with-multiple-disabilities" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/120465.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">119</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">28</span> Determination of Physicochemical Properties, Bioaccessibility of Phenolics and Antioxidant Capacity of Mineral Enriched Linden Herbal Tea Beverage</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Senem%20Suna">Senem Suna</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Canan%20Ece%20Tamer"> Canan Ece Tamer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=%C3%96mer%20Utku%20%C3%87opur"> Ömer Utku Çopur</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this research, dried linden (<em>Tilia argentea</em>) leaves and blossoms were used as a raw material for mineral enriched herbal tea beverage production. These tiles were collected from the local Saudi market. Qualitative and quantitative analysis for trace radioactive elements like uranium in these samples was achieved using LIBS. The plasma parameters such as temperature and electron density were calculated to confirm that the plasma generated by the tile samples under laser irradiation can be related to analyte concentrations. In order to perform a quantitative analysis, calibration curves were constructed for two uranium lines (U II (424.166 nm) and U II (424.437 nm)). The Uranium activity concentration in Bq/kg for each sample was measured. Cross-validation of LIBS results with a conventional technique such as Gamma-Ray spectroscopy was also carried out for five ceramic samples. The results show that the LIBS method is an effective way of determining radioactive elements such as uranium in ceramic tiles. Moreover, the uranium concentrations of the investigated samples were below the permissible safe limit for building materials in the majority of samples. Such LIBS system could be applied to determine the presence of natural radioactive elements in ceramic tiles and their radioactivity level rapidly to ensure that they are under the safe allowed limit. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=laser-induced%20breakdown%20spectroscopy" title="laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy">laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gamma-ray%20spectroscopy" title=" gamma-ray spectroscopy"> gamma-ray spectroscopy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=natural%20radioactivity" title=" natural radioactivity"> natural radioactivity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=uranium" title=" uranium"> uranium</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ceramic%20tiles" title=" ceramic tiles"> ceramic tiles</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/143458/qualitative-and-quantitative-analysis-of-uranium-in-ceramic-tiles-using-laser-induced-breakdown-spectroscopy-and-gamma-ray-spectroscopy" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/143458.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">172</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">26</span> Developing a Driving Simulator with a Navigation System to Measure Driver Distraction, Workload, Driving Safety and Performance</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tamer%20E.%20Yared">Tamer E. It has been proven to be valid for testing driving ability by many researchers. One benefit of using driving simulators is keeping the human subjects away from traffic hazards, which drivers usually face in a real driving environment while performing a driving experiment. In this study, a driving simulator was developed with a navigation system using a game development software (Unity 3D) and C-sharp codes to measure and evaluate driving performance, safety, and workload for different driving tasks. The driving simulator hardware included a gaming steering wheel and pedals as well as a monitor to view the driving tasks. Moreover, driver distraction was evaluated by utilizing an eye-tracking system working in conjunction with the driving simulator. Twenty subjects were recruited to evaluate driver distraction, workload, driving safety, and performance, as well as provide their feedback about the driving simulator. The subjects’ feedback was obtained by filling a survey after conducting several driving tasks. The main question of that survey was asking the subjects to compare driving on the driving simulator with real driving. Furthermore, other aspects of the driving simulator were evaluated by the subjects in the survey. The survey revealed that the recruited subjects gave an average score of 7.5 out of 10 to the driving simulator when compared to real driving, where the scores ranged between 6 and 8.5. This study is a preliminary effort that opens the door for more improvements to the driving simulator in terms of hardware and software development, which will contribute significantly to driving ability testing. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=driver%20distraction" title="driver distraction">driver distraction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=driving%20performance" title=" driving performance"> driving performance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=driving%20safety" title=" driving safety"> driving safety</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=driving%20simulator" title=" driving simulator"> driving simulator</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=driving%20workload" title=" driving workload"> driving workload</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=navigation%20system" title=" navigation system"> navigation system</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/132536/developing-a-driving-simulator-with-a-navigation-system-to-measure-driver-distraction-workload-driving-safety-and-performance" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/132536.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">178</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">25</span> Effects of Ethanolic Purslane Shoot and Seed Extracts on Doxorubicin-Induced Hepatotoxicity in Albino Rats</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Osama%20M.%20Ahmed">Osama M. The effect of doxorubicin (4 mg/kg b.w.week) without or with oral administration of ethanolic purslane (Portulaca oleracea) shoot (leaves and stems) extract (50 mg/kg b.w. day) or ethanolic purslane seeds extract (50 mg/kg b.w.day) co-treatments for 6 weeks was evaluated in adult male rats. Serum ALT, AST, ALP, GGT, total bilirubin, total protein, and albumin levels were assayed. Lipid peroxidation (indexed by MDA) and antioxidants like hepatic glutathine, glutathione transferase, peroxidase, SOD, and CAT were assessed. There was an increase in serum levels of ALT, AST, ALP, GGT and total bilirubin. In addition, hepatic glutathine, glutathione transferase, peroxidase, SOD, and CAT activities were decreased while lipid peroxidation in the liver was increased. Co-administration of ethanolic purslane and seed extracts successfully improved the adverse changes in the liver functions with an increase in antioxidants activities and reduction of lipid peroxidation. In conclusion, it can be supposed that dietary purslane extract supplementation may provide a cushion for a prolonged therapeutic option against DOX hepatopathy without harmful side effects. However, further clinical studies are required to assess the safety and efficacy of these extract in human beings. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=doxorubicin" title="doxorubicin">doxorubicin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=purslane" title=" purslane"> purslane</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hepatotoxicity" title=" hepatotoxicity"> hepatotoxicity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=antioxidants" title=" antioxidants"> antioxidants</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/30878/effects-of-ethanolic-purslane-shoot-and-seed-extracts-on-doxorubicin-induced-hepatotoxicity-in-albino-rats" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/30878.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">523</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">24</span> Functional Yoghurt Enriched with Microencapsulated Olive Leaves Extract Powder Using Polycaprolactone via Double Emulsion/Solvent Evaporation Technique</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tamer%20El-Messery">Tamer El-Messery</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Teresa%20Sanchez-Moya"> Teresa Sanchez-Moya</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ruben%20Lopez-Nicolas"> Ruben Lopez-Nicolas</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Gaspar%20Ros"> Gaspar Ros</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Esmat%20Aly"> Esmat Aly</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Olive leaves (OLs), the main by-product of the olive oil industry, have a considerable amount of phenolic compounds. The exploitation of these compounds represents the current trend in food processing. In this study, OLs polyphenols were microencapsulated with polycaprolactone (PCL) and utilized in formulating novel functional yoghurt. PCL-microcapsules were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, and Fourier transform infrared spectrometry analysis. Their total phenolic (TPC), total flavonoid (TFC) contents, and antioxidant activities (DPPH, FRAP, ABTS), and polyphenols bioaccessibility were measured after oral, gastric, and intestinal steps of in vitro digestion. The four yoghurt formulations (containing 0, 25, 50, and 75 mg of PCL-microsphere/100g yoghurt) were evaluated for their pH, acidity, syneresis viscosity, and color during storage. In vitro digestion significantly affected the phenolic composition in non-encapsulated extract while had a lower impact on encapsulated phenolics. Higher protection was provided for encapsulated OLs extract, and their higher release was observed at the intestinal phase. Yoghurt with PCL-microsphere had lower viscosity, syneresis, and color parameters, as compared to control yoghurt. Thus, OLs represent a valuable and cheap source of polyphenols which can be successfully applied, in microencapsulated form, to formulate functional yoghurt. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=yoghurt%20quality%20attributes" title="yoghurt quality attributes">yoghurt quality attributes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=olive%20leaves" title=" olive leaves"> olive leaves</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=phenolic%20and%20flavonoids%20compounds" title=" phenolic and flavonoids compounds"> phenolic and flavonoids compounds</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=antioxidant%20activity" title=" antioxidant activity"> antioxidant activity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=polycaprolactone%20as%20microencapsulant" title=" polycaprolactone as microencapsulant"> polycaprolactone as microencapsulant</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/135540/functional-yoghurt-enriched-with-microencapsulated-olive-leaves-extract-powder-using-polycaprolactone-via-double-emulsionsolvent-evaporation-technique" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/135540.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">142</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">23</span> Synthesis, Structural, Spectroscopic and Nonlinear Optical Properties of New Picolinate Complex of Manganese (II) Ion</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=%C3%96mer%20Tamer">Ömer Tamer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Davut%20Avc%C4%B1"> Davut Avcı</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yusuf%20Atalay"> Yusuf Atalay</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Novel picolinate complex of manganese(II) ion, [Mn(pic)2] [pic: picolinate or 2-pyridinecarboxylate], was prepared and fully characterized by single crystal X-ray structure determination. The manganese(II) complex was characterized by FT-IR, FT-Raman and UV–Vis spectroscopic techniques. The C=O, C=N and C=C stretching vibrations were found to be strong and simultaneously active in IR and spectra. In order to support these experimental techniques, density functional theory (DFT) calculations were performed at Gaussian 09W. Although the supramolecular interactions have some influences on the molecular geometry in solid state phase, the calculated data show that the predicted geometries can reproduce the structural parameters. The molecular modeling and calculations of IR, Raman and UV-vis spectra were performed by using DFT levels. Nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of synthesized complex were evaluated by the determining of dipole moment (µ), polarizability (α) and hyperpolarizability (β). Obtained results demonstrated that the manganese(II) complex is a good candidate for NLO material. Stability of the molecule arising from hyperconjugative interactions and charge delocalization was analyzed using natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis. The highest occupied and the lowest unoccupied molecular orbitals (HOMO and LUMO) which is also known the frontier molecular orbitals were simulated, and obtained energy gap confirmed that charge transfer occurs within manganese(II) complex. Molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) for synthesized manganese(II) complex displays the electrophilic and nucleophilic regions. From MEP, the the most negative region is located over carboxyl O atoms while positive region is located over H atoms. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=DFT" title="DFT">DFT</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=picolinate" title=" picolinate"> picolinate</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=IR" title=" IR"> IR</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Raman" title=" Raman"> Raman</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nonlinear%20optic" title=" nonlinear optic"> nonlinear optic</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/25057/synthesis-structural-spectroscopic-and-nonlinear-optical-properties-of-new-picolinate-complex-of-manganese-ii-ion" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/25057.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">499</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">22</span> A Study of Laminar Natural Convection in Annular Spaces between Differentially Heated Horizontal Circular Cylinders Filled with Non-Newtonian Nano Fluids</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Behzad%20Ahdiharab">Behzad Ahdiharab</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Senol%20Baskaya"> Senol Baskaya</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tamer%20Calisir"> Tamer Calisir</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Heat exchangers are one of the most widely used systems in factories, refineries etc. In this study, natural convection heat transfer using nano-fluids in between two cylinders is numerically investigated. The inner and outer cylinders are kept at constant temperatures. One of the most important assumptions in the project is that the working fluid is non-Newtonian. In recent years, the use of nano-fluids in industrial applications has increased profoundly. In this study, nano-Newtonian fluids containing metal particles with high heat transfer coefficients have been used. All fluid properties such as homogeneity has been calculated. In the present study, solutions have been obtained under unsteady conditions, base fluid was water, and effects of various parameters on heat transfer have been investigated. These parameters are Rayleigh number (103 < Ra < 106), power-law index (0.6 < n < 1.4), aspect ratio (0 < AR < 0.8), nano-particle composition, horizontal and vertical displacement of the inner cylinder, rotation of the inner cylinder, and volume fraction of nanoparticles. Results such as the internal cylinder average and local Nusselt number variations, contours of temperature, flow lines are presented. The results are also discussed in detail. From the validation study performed it was found that a very good agreement exists between the present results and those from the open literature. It was found out that the heat transfer is always affected by the investigated parameters. However, the degree to which the heat transfer is affected does change in a wide range. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=heat%20transfer" title="heat transfer">heat transfer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=circular%20space" title=" circular space"> circular space</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=non-Newtonian" title=" non-Newtonian"> non-Newtonian</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nano%20fluid" title=" nano fluid"> nano fluid</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=computational%20fluid%20dynamics." title=" computational fluid dynamics."> computational fluid dynamics.</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/32508/a-study-of-laminar-natural-convection-in-annular-spaces-between-differentially-heated-horizontal-circular-cylinders-filled-with-non-newtonian-nano-fluids" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/32508.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">415</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">21</span> Investigation of the Density and Control Methods of Weed Species That Are a Problem in Broad Bean (Vicia Faba L.) Many problems are encountered in broad bean (Vicia faba L.) cultivation. One of these problems is weeds. In this study, weed species, families, and densities of weeds that are a problem in broad beans were determined. A total of 47 weed species belonging to 20 different families were determined in the experimental area. Weed species found very densely in control 1 plots of the broad bean experimental area were Sinapis arvensis 11.50 pieces/m², Lolium temulentum L. 11.20, Ranunculus arvensis L. 10.95, Galium tricornutum Dany. 10.81, Avena sterilis 10.60, Bupleurum lancifolium 10.40, Convolvulus arvensis 10.25 ve Cynodon dactylon 10.14 pieces/m². The weed species Cuscuta campestris Yunck. which is very common in the control plots of the broad bean experimental area, was calculated as 11.94 units/m². It was determined that C. campestris alone caused significant yield and quality loss in broad beans. In this study, it was determined that the most effective method in reducing the weed population was hand hoeing, followed by pre-emergence pendimethalin and post-emergence herbicide with Imazamox active substance. In terms of the effect of these control applications on the pod yield, the hand hoeing application ranked first, the pendimethalin application ranked second, the Imazamox application ranked third, and the control 2 and control 1 plot took the last place. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=broad%20bean" title="broad bean">broad
