he was a chief<MG754> tax<MG754> collector<MG754> and he was rich<MG4145>. <a href="/luke/19-3.htm">3</a>Zaccheus was trying<MG2212> to see<MG3708> who<MG5101> Jesus<MG2424> was, and he was unable<MG3756, 1410> due<MG575> to the crowd<MG3793>, because<MG3754> he was short<MG3398> in stature<MG2244>. <a href="/luke/19-4.htm">4</a>So<MG2532> he ran<MG4390> on ahead<MG1715> and climbed<MG305> up<MG305> a <a href="#fn">[b]</a>sycamore<MG4809> tree<MG4809> in<MG2443> order<MG2443> to<MG2443> see<MG3708> Him, because<MG3754> He was<MG3195> about<MG3195> to<MG3195> pass<MG1330> through<MG1330> that way. <a href="/luke/19-5.htm">5</a>And when<MG5613> Jesus<MG2424> came<MG2064> to the place<MG5117>, He looked<MG308> up<MG308> and said<MG3004> to him, “Zaccheus<MG2195>, hurry<MG4692> and come<MG2597> down<MG2597>, for today<MG4594> I must<MG1163> stay<MG3306> at your house<MG3624>.” <a href="/luke/19-6.htm">6</a>And he hurried<MG4692> and came<MG2597> down<MG2597>, and received<MG5264> Him <a href="#fn">[c]</a>joyfully<MG5463>. <a href="/luke/19-7.htm">7</a>When the people saw<MG3708> this, they all<MG3956> began to complain<MG1234>, saying<MG3004>, “He has gone<MG1525> in<MG1525> <a href="#fn">[d]</a>to be the guest<MG2647> of a man<MG435> who is a sinner<MG268>!” <a href="/luke/19-8.htm">8</a>But Zaccheus<MG2195> stopped<MG2476> and said<MG3004> to the Lord<MG2962>, “Behold<MG2400>, Lord<MG2962>, half<MG2255> of my possessions<MG5225> I am giving<MG1325> to the poor<MG4434>, and if<MG1487> I have extorted<MG4811> anything<MG5100> from anyone<MG5100>, I am giving<MG591> back<MG591> four<MG5073> times<MG5073> as<MG5073> much<MG5073>.” <a href="/luke/19-9.htm">9</a>And Jesus<MG2424> said<MG3004> to him, “Today<MG4594> salvation<MG4991> has come<MG1096> to this<MG3778> house<MG3624>, because<MG2530> he, too<MG2532>, is a son<MG5207> of Abraham<MG11>. <a href="/luke/19-10.htm">10</a>For the Son<MG5207> of Man<MG444> has come<MG2064> to seek<MG2212> and to save<MG4982> that which was lost<MG622>.” Parable of the Ten Minas<a href="/luke/19-11.htm">11</a>Now while they were listening<MG191> to these<MG3778> things<MG3778>, Jesus went<MG4369> on<MG4369> to tell<MG3004> a parable<MG3850b>, because<MG1223> He was near<MG1451> Jerusalem<MG2419> and they thought<MG1380> that the kingdom<MG932> of God<MG2316> was<MG3195> going<MG3195> to<MG3195> appear<MG398> immediately<MG3916>. <a href="/luke/19-12.htm">12</a>So<MG3767> He said<MG3004>, “A nobleman<MG2104b, 444> went<MG4198> to a distant<MG3117> country<MG5561> to receive<MG2983> a kingdom<MG932> for himself<MG1438>, and then to return<MG5290>. <a href="/luke/19-13.htm">13</a>And he called<MG2564> ten<MG1176> of his own<MG1438> slaves<MG1401> and gave<MG1325> them ten<MG1176> <a href="#fn">[e]</a>minas<MG3414>, and said<MG3004> to them, ‘Do<MG4231> business<MG4231> with this money <a href="#fn">[f]</a>until<MG1722, 3739> I come<MG2064> back.’ <a href="/luke/19-14.htm">14</a>But his citizens<MG4177> hated<MG3404> him and sent<MG649> a delegation<MG4242> after<MG3694> him, saying<MG3004>, ‘We do not want<MG2309> this<MG3778> man<MG3778> to reign<MG936> over<MG1909> us.’ <a href="/luke/19-15.htm">15</a>When<MG1722> he returned<MG1880> after receiving<MG2983> the kingdom<MG932>, he ordered<MG3004> that these<MG3778> slaves<MG1401>, to whom<MG3739> he had given<MG1325> the money<MG694>, be summoned<MG5455> to him so<MG2443> that<MG2443> he would learn<MG1097> how<MG5101> much<MG5101> they had made<MG1281> by<MG1281> the<MG1281> business<MG1281> they had done<MG1281>. <a href="/luke/19-16.htm">16</a>The first<MG4413> slave appeared<MG3854>, saying<MG3004>, ‘<a href="#fn">[g]</a>Master<MG2962>, your <a href="#fn">[h]</a>mina<MG3414> has made<MG4333> ten<MG1176> minas<MG3414> more<MG4333>.’ <a href="/luke/19-17.htm">17</a>And he said<MG3004> to him, ‘Well<MG2104a> done<MG2104a>, good<MG18> slave<MG1401>; since<MG3754> you have been<MG1096> faithful<MG4103> in a very<MG1646> little<MG1646> thing<MG1646>, you are to have<MG2192> authority<MG1849> over<MG1883> ten<MG1176> cities<MG4172>.’ <a href="/luke/19-18.htm">18</a>The second<MG1208> one<MG1208> came<MG2064>, saying<MG3004>, ‘Your <a href="#fn">[i]</a>mina<MG3414>, <a href="#fn">[j]</a>master<MG2962>, has made<MG4160> five<MG4002> minas<MG3414>.’ <a href="/luke/19-19.htm">19</a>And he said<MG3004> to him also<MG2532>, ‘And you are to be over<MG1883> five<MG4002> cities<MG4172>.’ <a href="/luke/19-20.htm">20</a>And then another<MG2087> came<MG2064>, saying<MG3004>, ‘Master<MG2962>, here<MG2400> is your mina<MG3414>, which<MG3739> I kept<MG2192> tucked<MG606> away<MG606> in a handkerchief<MG4676>; <a href="/luke/19-21.htm">21</a>for I was<MG5399> afraid<MG5399> of you, because<MG3754> you are a demanding<MG840> man<MG444>; you take<MG142> up<MG142> what<MG3739> you did not lay<MG5087> down<MG5087>, and reap<MG2325> what<MG3739> you did not sow<MG4687>.’ <a href="/luke/19-22.htm">22</a>He *said<MG3004> to him, ‘<a href="#fn">[k]</a>From your own lips<MG4750> I will judge<MG2919> you, you worthless<MG4190> slave<MG1401>. Did you know<MG3609a> that I am<MG1510> a demanding<MG840> man<MG444>, taking<MG142> up<MG142> what<MG3739> I did not lay<MG5087> down<MG5087>, and reaping<MG2325> what<MG3739> I did not sow<MG4687>? <a href="/luke/19-23.htm">23</a>And so why<MG1223, 5101> did you not put<MG1325> my money<MG694> in the bank<MG5132>, and when I came<MG2064> back, I would have collected<MG4238> it with interest<MG5110>?’ <a href="/luke/19-24.htm">24</a>And then he said<MG3004> to the other slaves who were present<MG3936>, ‘Take<MG142> the mina<MG3414> away<MG142> from him and give<MG1325> it to the one who has<MG2192> the ten<MG1176> minas<MG3414>.’ <a href="/luke/19-25.htm">25</a>And they said<MG3004> to him, ‘Master<MG2962>, he already has<MG2192> ten<MG1176> minas<MG3414>.’ <a href="/luke/19-26.htm">26</a>‘I tell<MG3004> you that to everyone<MG3956> who has<MG2192>, more shall be given<MG1325>, but from the one who does not have<MG2192>, even<MG2532> what<MG3739> he does have<MG2192> shall be taken<MG142> away<MG142>. <a href="/luke/19-27.htm">27</a>But as for these<MG3778> enemies<MG2190> of mine<MG1473> who did not want<MG2309> me to reign<MG936> over<MG1909> them, bring<MG71> them here<MG5602> and slaughter<MG2695> them in my presence<MG1715>.’” Triumphal Entry<a href="/luke/19-28.htm">28</a>After Jesus said<MG3004> these<MG3778> things<MG3778>, He was going<MG4198> on ahead<MG1715>, going<MG4198> up to Jerusalem<MG2414>. <a href="/luke/19-29.htm">29</a>When<MG5613> He approached<MG1448> Bethphage<MG967> and Bethany<MG963>, near<MG4314> the <a href="#fn">[l]</a>mountain<MG3735> that is called<MG2564> Olivet<MG1638>, He sent<MG649> two<MG1417> of the disciples<MG3101>, <a href="/luke/19-30.htm">30</a>saying<MG3004>, “Go<MG5217> into the village<MG2968> <a href="#fn">[m]</a>ahead<MG2713> of<MG2713> you; there<MG1722, 3739>, as you enter<MG1531>, you will find<MG2147> a colt<MG4454> tied<MG1210>, on which<MG3739> no<MG3762> one<MG444, 3762> yet<MG4455> has ever<MG4455> sat<MG2523>; untie<MG3089> it and bring<MG71> it here. <a href="/luke/19-31.htm">31</a>And if<MG1437> anyone<MG5100> asks<MG2065> you, ‘Why<MG1223, 5101> are you untying<MG3089> it?’ you shall say<MG3004> this<MG3779>: ‘<a href="#fn">[n]</a>The Lord<MG2962> has<MG2192> need<MG5532> of it.’” <a href="/luke/19-32.htm">32</a>So<MG1161> those<MG3588> who were sent<MG649> left<MG565> and found<MG2147> it just<MG2531a> as<MG2531a> He had told<MG3004> them. <a href="/luke/19-33.htm">33</a>And as they were untying<MG3089> the colt<MG4454>, its <a href="#fn">[o]</a>owners<MG2962> said<MG3004> to them, “Why<MG5101> are you untying<MG3089> the colt<MG4454>?” <a href="/luke/19-34.htm">34</a>They said<MG3004>, “<a href="#fn">[p]</a>The Lord<MG2962> has<MG2192> need<MG5532> of it.” <a href="/luke/19-35.htm">35</a>And they brought<MG71> it to Jesus<MG2424>, and they threw<MG1977> their cloaks<MG2440> on the colt<MG4454> and put<MG1913> Jesus<MG2424> on it. <a href="/luke/19-36.htm">36</a>Now<MG1161> as He was going<MG4198>, they were spreading<MG5291> their cloaks<MG2440> on the road<MG3598>. <a href="/luke/19-37.htm">37</a>And as<MG2235> soon<MG2235> as<MG2235> He was approaching<MG1448>, near<MG4314> the descent<MG2600> of the Mount<MG3735> of Olives<MG1636>, the whole<MG537a> crowd<MG4128> of the disciples<MG3101> began<MG757> to praise<MG134> God<MG2316> <a href="#fn">[q]</a>joyfully<MG5463> with a loud<MG3173> voice<MG5456> for all<MG3956> the <a href="#fn">[r]</a>miracles<MG1411> which<MG3739> they had seen<MG3708>, <a href="/luke/19-38.htm">38</a><a href="#fn">[s]</a>shouting<MG3004>: “BLESSED<MG2127> IS the King<MG935>, THE ONE WHO COMES<MG2064> IN THE NAME<MG3686> OF THE LORD<MG2962>; <t>Peace<MG1515> in heaven<MG3772> and glory<MG1391> in the highest<MG5310>!” <A><a href="/luke/19-39.htm">39</a>And yet some<MG5100> of the Pharisees<MG5330> <a href="#fn">[t]</a>in the crowd<MG3793> said<MG3004> to Him, “Teacher<MG1320>, rebuke<MG2008> Your disciples<MG3101>!” <a href="/luke/19-40.htm">40</a>Jesus replied<MG611, 3004>, “I tell<MG3004> you, if<MG1437> these<MG3778> stop<MG4623> speaking<MG4623>, the stones<MG3037> will cry<MG2896> out<MG2896>!” <a href="/luke/19-41.htm">41</a>When<MG5613> He approached<MG1448> Jerusalem, He saw<MG3708> the city<MG4172> and wept<MG2799> over<MG1909> it, <a href="/luke/19-42.htm">42</a>saying<MG3004>, “If<MG1487> you had known<MG1097> on this<MG3778> day<MG2250>, even<MG2532> you, the conditions for peace<MG1515>!
