GRB 221009A, given the moniker the brightest of all time (BOAT), is the brightest gamma-ray burst identified in half a century of observations, and was first identified by the Fermi Gamma-ray Burst Monitor (GBM). On behalf of the Fermi-GBM Team, Lesage et al. (2023) described the initial GBM analysis. Ravasio et al. (2024) report the identification of a spectral line in part of the prompt emission of this burst, which they describe as evolving over 80 s from $\sim$12 MeV to 6 MeV. We report a GBM Team analysis on the Ravasio Line: 1) We cannot identify an instrumental effect that could have produced this signal, and 2) our method of calculating the statistical significance of the line shows it easily exceeds the 5$蟽$ discovery threshold. We additionally comment on the claim of the line beginning at earlier time intervals, up to 37 MeV, as reported in Zhang et al. (2024). We find that it is reasonable to utilize these measurements for characterization of the line evolution, with caution. We encourage theoretical studies exploring this newly discovered gamma-ray burst spectral feature, unless any rigorous alternative explanation unrelated to the emission from GRB 221009A is identified. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('2410.00286v1-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('2410.00286v1-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">△ Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 30 September, 2024; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> October 2024. </p> </li> <li class="arxiv-result"> <div class="is-marginless"> <p class="list-title is-inline-block"><a href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2409.04580">arXiv:2409.04580</a> <span> [<a href="https://arxiv.org/pdf/2409.04580">pdf</a>, <a href="https://arxiv.org/format/2409.04580">other</a>] </span> </p> <div class="tags is-inline-block"> <span class="tag is-small is-link tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="High Energy Astrophysical Phenomena">astro-ph.HE</span> </div> </div> <p class="title is-5 mathjax"> GRB 221009A: the B.O.A.T Burst that Shines in Gamma Rays </p> <p class="authors"> <span class="search-hit">Authors:</span> <a href="/search/astro-ph?searchtype=author&query=Axelsson%2C+M">M. The burst emission above 30 MeV detected by the LAT preceded by 1 s the low-energy (< 10 MeV) pulse that triggered the Fermi Gamma-Ray Burst Monitor (GBM), as has been observed in other GRBs. The prompt phase of GRB 221009A lasted a few hundred seconds. It was so bright that we identify a Bad Time Interval (BTI) of 64 seconds caused by the extremely high flux of hard X-rays and soft gamma rays, during which the event reconstruction efficiency was poor and the dead time fraction quite high. The late-time emission decayed as a power law, but the extrapolation of the late-time emission during the first 450 seconds suggests that the afterglow started during the prompt emission. We also found that high-energy events observed by the LAT are incompatible with synchrotron origin, and, during the prompt emission, are more likely related to an extra component identified as synchrotron self-Compton (SSC). A remarkable 400 GeV photon, detected by the LAT 33 ks after the GBM trigger and directionally consistent with the location of GRB 221009A, is hard to explain as a product of SSC or TeV electromagnetic cascades, and the process responsible for its origin is uncertain. Because of its proximity and energetic nature, GRB 221009A is an extremely rare event. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('2409.04580v1-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('2409.04580v1-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">△ Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 6 September, 2024; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> September 2024. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">60 pages, 38 figures, 9 tables</span> </p> </li> <li class="arxiv-result"> <div class="is-marginless"> <p class="list-title is-inline-block"><a href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2405.10752">arXiv:2405.10752</a> <span> [<a href="https://arxiv.org/pdf/2405.10752">pdf</a>, <a href="https://arxiv.org/format/2405.10752">other</a>] </span> </p> <div class="tags is-inline-block"> <span class="tag is-small is-link tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="High Energy Astrophysical Phenomena">astro-ph.HE</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="General Relativity and Quantum Cosmology">gr-qc</span> </div> </div> <p class="title is-5 mathjax"> Constraining possible $纬$-ray burst emission from GW230529 using Swift-BAT and Fermi-GBM </p> <p class="authors"> <span class="search-hit">Authors:</span> <a href="/search/astro-ph?searchtype=author&query=Ronchini%2C+S">Samuele Ronchini</a>, <a href="/search/astro-ph?searchtype=author&query=Bala%2C+S">Suman Bala</a>, <a href="/search/astro-ph?searchtype=author&query=Wood%2C+J">Joshua Wood</a>, <a href="/search/astro-ph?searchtype=author&query=Delaunay%2C+J">James Delaunay</a>, <a href="/search/astro-ph?searchtype=author&query=Dichiara%2C+S">Simone Dichiara</a>, <a href="/search/astro-ph?searchtype=author&query=Kennea%2C+J+A">Jamie A. If interpreted as a neutron star-black hole merger, this event has the most symmetric mass ratio detected so far and therefore has a relatively high probability of producing electromagnetic (EM) emission. However, no EM counterpart has been reported. At the merger time $t_0$, Swift-BAT and Fermi-GBM together covered 100$\%$ of the sky. Performing a targeted search in a time window $[t_0-20 \text{s},t_0+20 \text{s}]$, we report no detection by the Swift-BAT and the Fermi-GBM instruments. Combining the position-dependent $纬-$ray flux upper limits and the gravitational-wave posterior distribution of luminosity distance, sky localization and inclination angle of the binary, we derive constraints on the characteristic luminosity and structure of the jet possibly launched during the merger. Assuming a top-hat jet structure, we exclude at 90$\%$ credibility the presence of a jet which has at the same time an on-axis isotropic luminosity $\gtrsim 10^{48}$ erg s$^{-1}$, in the bolometric band 1 keV-10 MeV, and a jet opening angle $\gtrsim 15$ deg. Similar constraints are derived testing other assumptions about the jet structure profile. Excluding GRB 170817A, the luminosity upper limits derived here are below the luminosity of any GRB observed so far. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('2405.10752v1-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('2405.10752v1-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">△ Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 17 May, 2024; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> May 2024. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">18 pages, 1 table, 11 figures</span> </p> </li> <li class="arxiv-result"> <div class="is-marginless"> <p class="list-title is-inline-block"><a href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2308.13666">arXiv:2308.13666</a> <span> [<a href="https://arxiv.org/pdf/2308.13666">pdf</a>, <a href="https://arxiv.org/format/2308.13666">other</a>] </span> </p> <div class="tags is-inline-block"> <span class="tag is-small is-link tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="High Energy Astrophysical Phenomena">astro-ph.HE</span> </div> </div> <p class="title is-5 mathjax"> A Joint Fermi-GBM and Swift-BAT Analysis of Gravitational-Wave Candidates from the Third Gravitational-wave Observing Run </p> <p class="authors"> <span class="search-hit">Authors:</span> <a href="/search/astro-ph?searchtype=author&query=Fletcher%2C+C">C. This GRB has continuous prompt emission lasting more than 600 seconds which smoothly transitions to afterglow visible in the GBM energy range (8 keV--40 MeV), and total energetics higher than any other burst in the GBM sample. By using a variety of new and existing analysis techniques we probe the spectral and temporal evolution of GRB 221009A. We find no emission prior to the GBM trigger time (t0; 2022 October 9 at 13:16:59.99 UTC), indicating that this is the time of prompt emission onset. The triggering pulse exhibits distinct spectral and temporal properties suggestive of the thermal, photospheric emission of shock-breakout, with significant emission up to $\sim$15 MeV. We characterize the onset of external shock at t0+600 s and find evidence of a plateau region in the early-afterglow phase which transitions to a slope consistent with Swift-XRT afterglow measurements. We place the total energetics of GRB 221009A in context with the rest of the GBM sample and find that this GRB has the highest total isotropic-equivalent energy ($\textrm{E}_{纬,\textrm{iso}}=1.0\times10^{55}$ erg) and second highest isotropic-equivalent luminosity ($\textrm{L}_{纬,\textrm{iso}}=9.9\times10^{53}$ erg/s) based on redshift of z = 0.151. These extreme energetics are what allowed us to observe the continuously emitting central engine of GBM from the beginning of the prompt emission phase through the onset of early afterglow. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('2303.14172v2-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('2303.14172v2-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">△ Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 12 July, 2023; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">v1</span> submitted 24 March, 2023; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> March 2023. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">26 pages 7 figures - accepted for publication in ApJL</span> </p> </li> <li class="arxiv-result"> <div class="is-marginless"> <p class="list-title is-inline-block"><a href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2103.13528">arXiv:2103.13528</a> <span> [<a href="https://arxiv.org/pdf/2103.13528">pdf</a>, <a href="https://arxiv.org/format/2103.13528">other</a>] </span> </p> <div class="tags is-inline-block"> <span class="tag is-small is-link tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="High Energy Astrophysical Phenomena">astro-ph.HE</span> </div> <div class="is-inline-block" style="margin-left: 0.5rem"> <div class="tags has-addons"> <span class="tag is-dark is-size-7">doi</span> <span class="tag is-light is-size-7"><a class="" href="https://doi.org/10.3847/1538-4357/abf24d">10.3847/1538-4357/abf24d <i class="fa fa-external-link" aria-hidden="true"></i></a></span> </div> </div> </div> <p class="title is-5 mathjax"> The Fermi GBM Gamma-Ray Burst Spectral Catalog: 10 Years of Data </p> <p class="authors"> <span class="search-hit">Authors:</span> <a href="/search/astro-ph?searchtype=author&query=Poolakkil%2C+S">S. They are characterised by an initial phase of bright and highly variable radiation in the keV-MeV band that is likely produced within the jet and lasts from milliseconds to minutes, known as the prompt emission. Subsequently, the interaction of the jet with the external medium generates external shock waves, responsible for the afterglow emission, which lasts from days to months, and occurs over a broad energy range, from the radio to the GeV bands. The afterglow emission is generally well explained as synchrotron radiation by electrons accelerated at the external shock. Recently, an intense, long-lasting emission between 0.2 and 1 TeV was observed from the GRB 190114C. Here we present the results of our multi-frequency observational campaign of GRB~190114C, and study the evolution in time of the GRB emission across 17 orders of magnitude in energy, from $5\times10^{-6}$ up to $10^{12}$\,eV. We find that the broadband spectral energy distribution is double-peaked, with the TeV emission constituting a distinct spectral component that has power comparable to the synchrotron component. This component is associated with the afterglow, and is satisfactorily explained by inverse Compton upscattering of synchrotron photons by high-energy electrons. We find that the conditions required to account for the observed TeV component are not atypical, supporting the possibility that inverse Compton emission is commonly produced in GRBs. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('2006.07251v1-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('2006.07251v1-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">△ Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 12 June, 2020; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> June 2020. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Journal ref:</span> Nature 575 (2019) 459-463 </p> </li> <li class="arxiv-result"> <div class="is-marginless"> <p class="list-title is-inline-block"><a href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2004.00051">arXiv:2004.00051</a> <span> [<a href="https://arxiv.org/pdf/2004.00051">pdf</a>, <a href="https://arxiv.org/format/2004.00051">other</a>] </span> </p> <div class="tags is-inline-block"> <span class="tag is-small is-link tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="High Energy Astrophysical Phenomena">astro-ph.HE</span> </div> <div class="is-inline-block" style="margin-left: 0.5rem"> <div class="tags has-addons"> <span class="tag is-dark is-size-7">doi</span> <span class="tag is-light is-size-7"><a class="" href="https://doi.org/10.3847/1538-4357/ab855c">10.3847/1538-4357/ab855c <i class="fa fa-external-link" aria-hidden="true"></i></a></span> </div> </div> </div> <p class="title is-5 mathjax"> The Ups & Downs of Accreting X-Ray Pulsars: Decade-long observations with the Fermi Gamma-Ray Burst Monitor </p> <p class="authors"> <span class="search-hit">Authors:</span> <a href="/search/astro-ph?searchtype=author&query=Malacaria%2C+C">C. Our work includes data from the start of GBM operations in August 2008, through to November 2019. Pulsations from 39 accreting pulsars are observed over an energy range of $10-50\,$keV by GBM. The GBM Accreting Pulsars Program (GAPP) performs data reduction and analysis for each accreting pulsar and makes histories of the pulse frequency and pulsed flux publicly available. We examine in detail the spin histories, outbursts and torque behaviors of the persistent and transient X-ray pulsars observed by GBM. The spin period evolution of each source is analyzed in the context of disk-accretion and quasi-spherical settling accretion driven torque models. Long-term pulse frequency histories are also analyzed over the GBM mission lifetime and compared to those available from the previous BATSE all-sky monitoring mission, revealing previously unnoticed episodes in some of the analyzed sources (such as a torque reversal in 2S 1845-024). We obtain new, or update known, orbital solutions for three sources. Our results demonstrate the capabilities of GBM as an excellent instrument for monitoring accreting X-ray pulsars and its important scientific contribution to this field. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('2004.00051v3-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('2004.00051v3-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">△ Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 17 June, 2020; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">v1</span> submitted 31 March, 2020; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> April 2020. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">Published online by ApJ. It extends the six year catalog by four more years, now covering the ten year time period from trigger enabling on 2008 July 12 to 2018 July 11. During this time period GBM triggered almost twice a day on transient events of which we identifyied 2356 as cosmic GRBs. Additional trigger events were due to solar are events, magnetar burst activities, and terrestrial gamma-ray flashes. The intention of the GBM GRB catalog series is to provide updated information to the community on the most important observables of the GBM-detected GRBs. For each GRB the location and main characteristics of the prompt emission, the duration, peak flux, and fluence are derived. The latter two quantities are calculated for the 50-300 keV energy band, where the maximum energy release of GRBs in the instrument reference system is observed and also for a broader energy band from 10-1000 keV, exploiting the full energy range of GBM's low-energy detectors. Furthermore, information is given on the settings of the triggering criteria and exceptional operational conditions during years 7 to 10 in the mission. This fourth catalog is an official product of the Fermi-GBM science team, and the data files containing the complete results are available from the High-Energy Astrophysics Science Archive Research Center (HEASARC). <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('2002.11460v2-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('2002.11460v2-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">△ Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 14 April, 2020; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">v1</span> submitted 26 February, 2020; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> February 2020. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">273 pages, 10 figures, 8 tables. In particular, we perform follow-up for both confirmed events and low significance candidates reported in the LIGO/Virgo catalog GWTC-1. We search for temporal coincidences between these GW signals and GBM triggered gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). We also use the GBM Untargeted and Targeted subthreshold searches to find coincident gamma-rays below the on-board triggering threshold. This work implements a refined statistical approach by incorporating GW astrophysical source probabilities and GBM visibilities of LIGO/Virgo sky localizations to search for cumulative signatures of coincident subthreshold gamma-rays. All search methods recover the short gamma-ray burst GRB 170817A occurring ~1.7 s after the binary neutron star merger GW170817. We also present results from a new search seeking GBM counterparts to LIGO single-interferometer triggers. This search finds a candidate joint event, but given the nature of the GBM signal and localization, as well as the high joint false alarm rate of $1.1 \times 10^{-6}$ Hz, we do not consider it an astrophysical association. We find no additional coincidences. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('2001.00923v2-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('2001.00923v2-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">△ Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 24 February, 2020; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">v1</span> submitted 3 January, 2020; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> January 2020. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">Accepted for publication in ApJ. 18 pages, 4 figures, 1 table</span> </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Journal ref:</span> The Astrophysical Journal, 893:100 (14pp), 2020 April 20 </p> </li> <li class="arxiv-result"> <div class="is-marginless"> <p class="list-title is-inline-block"><a href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1909.03006">arXiv:1909.03006</a> <span> [<a href="https://arxiv.org/pdf/1909.03006">pdf</a>, <a href="https://arxiv.org/format/1909.03006">other</a>] </span> </p> <div class="tags is-inline-block"> <span class="tag is-small is-link tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="Instrumentation and Methods for Astrophysics">astro-ph.IM</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="High Energy Astrophysical Phenomena">astro-ph.HE</span> </div> <div class="is-inline-block" style="margin-left: 0.5rem"> <div class="tags has-addons"> <span class="tag is-dark is-size-7">doi</span> <span class="tag is-light is-size-7"><a class="" href="https://doi.org/10.3847/1538-4357/ab8bdb">10.3847/1538-4357/ab8bdb <i class="fa fa-external-link" aria-hidden="true"></i></a></span> </div> </div> </div> <p class="title is-5 mathjax"> Evaluation of Automated Fermi GBM Localizations of Gamma-ray Bursts </p> <p class="authors"> <span class="search-hit">Authors:</span> <a href="/search/astro-ph?searchtype=author&query=Goldstein%2C+A">Adam Goldstein</a>, <a href="/search/astro-ph?searchtype=author&query=Fletcher%2C+C">Corinne Fletcher</a>, <a href="/search/astro-ph?searchtype=author&query=Veres%2C+P">Peter Veres</a>, <a href="/search/astro-ph?searchtype=author&query=Briggs%2C+M+S">Michael S. Through a systematic study utilizing over 500 GRBs with known locations from instruments like Swift and the Fermi LAT, we directly compare the effectiveness of, and accurately estimate the systematic uncertainty for, both algorithms. We show simple adjustments to the GBM Team's RoboBA, in operation since early 2016, yields significant improvement in the systematic uncertainty, removing the long tail identified in the systematic, and improves the overall accuracy. The systematic uncertainty for the updated RoboBA localizations is $1.8^\circ$ for 52% of GRBs and $4.1^\circ$ for the remaining 48%. Both from public reporting by BALROG and our systematic study, we find the systematic uncertainty of $1-2^\circ$ quoted in GCN circulars for bright GRBs localized by BALROG is an underestimate of the true magnitude of the systematic, which we find to be $2.7^\circ$ for 74% of GRBs and $33^\circ$ for the remaining 26%. We show that, once the systematic uncertainty is considered, the RoboBA 90% localization confidence regions can be more than an order of magnitude smaller in area than those produced by BALROG. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('1909.03006v3-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('1909.03006v3-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">△ Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 19 April, 2020; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">v1</span> submitted 6 September, 2019; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> September 2019. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">Accepted for publication in ApJ. As demonstrated by the multimessenger observations of GW170817/GRB 170817A, electromagnetic and GW observations provide complementary information about the astrophysical source and, in the case of weaker candidates, may strengthen the case for an astrophysical origin. Here we investigate low-significance GW candidates from the O1 compact-binary coalescence searches using the Fermi Gamma-ray Burst Monitor (GBM), leveraging its all-sky and broad energy coverage. Candidates are ranked and compared to background to measure significance. Those with false alarm rates of less than 10^-5 Hz (about one per day) are used as the search sample for gamma-ray follow-up. No GW candidates were found to be coincident with gamma-ray transients independently identified by blind searches of the GBM data. In addition, GW candidate event times were followed up by a separate targeted search of GBM data. Among the resulting GBM events, the two with lowest false alarm rates were the gamma-ray transient GW150914-GBM presented in Connaughton et al. (2016) and a solar flare in chance coincidence with a GW candidate. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('1810.02764v2-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('1810.02764v2-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">△ Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 18 November, 2019; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">v1</span> submitted 5 October, 2018; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> October 2018. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">Published in ApJ</span> </p> </li> <li class="arxiv-result"> <div class="is-marginless"> <p class="list-title is-inline-block"><a href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1807.02866">arXiv:1807.02866</a> <span> [<a href="https://arxiv.org/pdf/1807.02866">pdf</a>, <a href="https://arxiv.org/format/1807.02866">other</a>] </span> </p> <div class="tags is-inline-block"> <span class="tag is-small is-link tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="High Energy Astrophysical Phenomena">astro-ph.HE</span> </div> <div class="is-inline-block" style="margin-left: 0.5rem"> <div class="tags has-addons"> <span class="tag is-dark is-size-7">doi</span> <span class="tag is-light is-size-7"><a class="" href="https://doi.org/10.3847/2041-8213/aad813">10.3847/2041-8213/aad813 <i class="fa fa-external-link" aria-hidden="true"></i></a></span> </div> </div> </div> <p class="title is-5 mathjax"> Fermi GBM Observations of GRB 150101B: A Second Nearby Event with a Short Hard Spike and a Soft Tail </p> <p class="authors"> <span class="search-hit">Authors:</span> <a href="/search/astro-ph?searchtype=author&query=Burns%2C+E">E. We find this burst is composed of a short hard spike followed by a comparatively long soft tail. This apparent two-component nature is phenomenologically similar to that of GRB 170817A. While GRB 170817A was distinct from the previously known population of short gamma-ray bursts in terms of its prompt intrinsic energetics, GRB 150101B is not. Despite these differences, GRB 150101B can be modeled as a more on-axis version of GRB 170817A. Identifying a similar signature in two of the closest short gamma-ray bursts suggests the soft tail is common, but generally undetectable in more distant events. If so, it will be possible to identify nearby short gamma-ray bursts from the prompt gamma-ray emission alone, aiding the search for kilonovae. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('1807.02866v2-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('1807.02866v2-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">△ Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 6 August, 2018; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">v1</span> submitted 8 July, 2018; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> July 2018. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">Accepted for publication in ApJL</span> </p> </li> <li class="arxiv-result"> <div class="is-marginless"> <p class="list-title is-inline-block"><a href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1710.05446">arXiv:1710.05446</a> <span> [<a href="https://arxiv.org/pdf/1710.05446">pdf</a>, <a href="https://arxiv.org/format/1710.05446">other</a>] </span> </p> <div class="tags is-inline-block"> <span class="tag is-small is-link tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="High Energy Astrophysical Phenomena">astro-ph.HE</span> </div> <div class="is-inline-block" style="margin-left: 0.5rem"> <div class="tags has-addons"> <span class="tag is-dark is-size-7">doi</span> <span class="tag is-light is-size-7"><a class="" href="https://doi.org/10.3847/2041-8213/aa8f41">10.3847/2041-8213/aa8f41 <i class="fa fa-external-link" aria-hidden="true"></i></a></span> </div> </div> </div> <p class="title is-5 mathjax"> An Ordinary Short Gamma-Ray Burst with Extraordinary Implications: Fermi-GBM Detection of GRB 170817A </p> <p class="authors"> <span class="search-hit">Authors:</span> <a href="/search/astro-ph?searchtype=author&query=Goldstein%2C+A">A. Approximately 1.7 s prior to this GRB, the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) triggered on a binary compact merger candidate associated with the GRB. This is the first unambiguous coincident observation of gravitational waves and electromagnetic radiation from a single astrophysical source and marks the start of gravitational-wave multi-messenger astronomy. We report the GBM observations and analysis of this ordinary short GRB, which extraordinarily confirms that at least some short GRBs are produced by binary compact mergers. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('1710.05446v1-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('1710.05446v1-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">△ Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 16 October, 2017; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> October 2017. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">Published in Astrophysical Journal Letters</span> </p> </li> <li class="arxiv-result"> <div class="is-marginless"> <p class="list-title is-inline-block"><a href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1603.07612">arXiv:1603.07612</a> <span> [<a href="https://arxiv.org/pdf/1603.07612">pdf</a>, <a href="https://arxiv.org/ps/1603.07612">ps</a>, <a href="https://arxiv.org/format/1603.07612">other</a>] </span> </p> <div class="tags is-inline-block"> <span class="tag is-small is-link tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="High Energy Astrophysical Phenomena">astro-ph.HE</span> </div> <div class="is-inline-block" style="margin-left: 0.5rem"> <div class="tags has-addons"> <span class="tag is-dark is-size-7">doi</span> <span class="tag is-light is-size-7"><a class="" href="https://doi.org/10.3847/0067-0049/223/2/28">10.3847/0067-0049/223/2/28 <i class="fa fa-external-link" aria-hidden="true"></i></a></span> </div> </div> </div> <p class="title is-5 mathjax"> The 3rd Fermi GBM Gamma-Ray Burst Catalog: The First Six Years </p> <p class="authors"> <span class="search-hit">Authors:</span> <a href="/search/astro-ph?searchtype=author&query=Bhat%2C+P+N">P. Here we present the third of a series of catalogs of GRBs detected by GBM, extending the second catalog by two more years, through the middle of July 2014. The resulting list includes 1405 triggers identified as GRBs. The intention of the GBM GRB catalog is to provide information to the community on the most important observables of the GBM detected GRBs. For each GRB the location and main characteristics of the prompt emission, the duration, peak flux and fluence are derived. The latter two quantities are calculated for the 50-300~keV energy band, where the maximum energy release of GRBs in the instrument reference system is observed, and also for a broader energy band from 10-1000 keV, exploiting the full energy range of GBM's low-energy NaI(Tl) detectors. Using statistical methods to assess clustering, we find that the hardness and duration of GRBs are better fitted by a two-component model with short-hard and long-soft bursts, than by a model with three components. Furthermore, information is provided on the settings and modifications of the triggering criteria and exceptional operational conditions during years five and six in the mission. This third catalog is an official product of the Fermi GBM science team, and the data files containing the complete results are available from the High-Energy Astrophysics Science Archive Research Center (HEASARC). <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('1603.07612v1-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('1603.07612v1-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">△ Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 24 March, 2016; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> March 2016. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">225 pages, 13 figures and 8 tables. We perform time-resolved spectral analysis with high temporal and spectral resolution of the brightest bursts observed by Fermi GBM in its first 4 years of mission. We present the complete catalog containing 1,491 spectra from 81 bursts with high spectral and temporal resolution. Distributions of parameters, statistics of the parameter populations, parameter-parameter and parameter-uncertainty correlations, and their exact values are obtained and presented as main results in this catalog. We report a criterion that is robust enough to automatically distinguish between different spectral evolutionary trends between bursts. We also search for plausible blackbody emission components and find that only 3 bursts (36 spectra in total) show evidence of a pure Planck function. It is observed that the averaged time-resolved low-energy power-law index and peak energy are slightly harder than the time-integrated values. Time-resolved spectroscopic results should be used when interpreting physics from the observed spectra, instead of the time-integrated results. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('1601.05206v1-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('1601.05206v1-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">△ Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 20 January, 2016; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> January 2016. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">11 figures, 6 tables, accepted for publication in A&A</span> </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Journal ref:</span> A&A 588, A135 (2016) </p> </li> <li class="arxiv-result"> <div class="is-marginless"> <p class="list-title is-inline-block"><a href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1401.5069">arXiv:1401.5069</a> <span> [<a href="https://arxiv.org/pdf/1401.5069">pdf</a>, <a href="https://arxiv.org/ps/1401.5069">ps</a>, <a href="https://arxiv.org/format/1401.5069">other</a>] </span> </p> <div class="tags is-inline-block"> <span class="tag is-small is-link tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="High Energy Astrophysical Phenomena">astro-ph.HE</span> </div> <div class="is-inline-block" style="margin-left: 0.5rem"> <div class="tags has-addons"> <span class="tag is-dark is-size-7">doi</span> <span class="tag is-light is-size-7"><a class="" href="https://doi.org/10.1088/0067-0049/211/1/12">10.1088/0067-0049/211/1/12 <i class="fa fa-external-link" aria-hidden="true"></i></a></span> </div> </div> </div> <p class="title is-5 mathjax"> The Fermi GBM Gamma-Ray Burst Spectral Catalog: Four Years Of Data </p> <p class="authors"> <span class="search-hit">Authors:</span> <a href="/search/astro-ph?searchtype=author&query=Gruber%2C+D">David Gruber</a>, <a href="/search/astro-ph?searchtype=author&query=Goldstein%2C+A">Adam Goldstein</a>, <a href="/search/astro-ph?searchtype=author&query=von+Ahlefeld%2C+V+W">Victoria Weller von Ahlefeld</a>, <a href="/search/astro-ph?searchtype=author&query=Bhat%2C+P+N">P. Four different spectral models were fitted to the data, resulting in a compendium of more than 7500 spectra. The analysis was performed similarly, but not identically to Goldstein et al. 2012. All 487 GRBs from the first two years have been re-fitted using the same methodology as that of the 456 GRBs in years three and four. A tungsten mask, mounted at 90 cm above the detector provides shadowgrams of X-ray sources in the 30 - 600 keV band for imaging, allowing a fully coded field of view of 9 Deg x 9 Deg with an angular resolution of 20 arcmin. To reduce the background radiation, the detector is surrounded by semi-graded (Pb/Sn/Cu) passive shields on the four sides all the way to the mask. On the back side, a 26 cm x 26 cm x 2 cm CsI(Na) active shield provides signals to tag charged particle induced events as well as >~ 100 keV background photons from below. The flight duration was only about 7.5 hours due to strong winds (60 knots) at float altitude (38-39 km). Throughout the flight, the CZT detector performed excellently. The telescope observed Cyg X-1 for ~ 1 hour at the end of the flight. Despite a few problems with the pointing and aspect systems that caused the telescope to track about 6.4 deg off the target, the analysis of the Cyg X-1 data revealed an X-ray source at 7.2 sigma in the 30-100 keV energy band at the expected location from the optical images taken by the onboard daytime star camera. The success of this first flight is very encouraging for the future development of the advanced CZT imaging detectors (ProtoEXIST2, with 0.6 mm pixels). <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space:
