Methods: This was a descriptive correlational research method. The population consisted of 500 couples referring to Sari Health Center. Two hundred and fifteen (215) people were selected randomly by using Krejcie-Morgan-sample-size-table. For data collection, the childbearing orientations scale and the Multidimensional Sexual Self-Concept Questionnaire were used. Result: For data analysis, the mean and standard deviation were used and to analyze the research hypothesis regression correlation and inferential statistics were used. Conclusion: The findings indicate that there is not a significant relationship between the tendency to childbearing and the predictive value of sexual review (r = 0.84) with significant level (sig = 219.19) (P < 0.05). So, with 95% confidence, we conclude that there is not a meaningful relationship between sexual orientation and tendency to child-rearing. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=couples%20referring" title="couples referring">couples referring</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=health%20center" title=" health center"> health center</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sexual%20review%20component" title=" sexual review component"> sexual review component</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=parenting%20orientations" title=" parenting orientations"> parenting orientations</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/82443/prediction-of-childbearing-orientations-according-to-couples-sexual-review-component" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/82443.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">219</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">418</span> Mediating Role of Burnout in Personality and Marital Satisfaction of Single and Dual Career Couples</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sara%20Subhan">Sara Subhan</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Married couples tend to experience various bio-psycho-social issues that may eventually impact the quality of their marital relationship and mental wellbeing. This study aimed to find out the comparison between the single and dual-career couples’ personality, burnout and marital satisfaction. For that purpose Big Five Inventory, Couple Satisfaction Inventory, and Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey was used to measure the relationship between variables. The main study was carried out on 200 samples of single and dual-earner couples with the age range of 23-52 (mean= 34.58; standard deviation= 6.51) by using a purposive sampling strategy. The results showed that burnout tendencies like exhaustion, cynicism and professional efficacy are playing a mediation role between the personality and marital satisfaction of both single and dual career couples. Also, the results revealed that dual-career couples are more likely to have marital satisfaction as compared to single career couples. The results were further discussed in the light of its implications in its cultural context and counseling areas. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dual%20career%20couples" title="dual career couples">dual career couples</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=marital%20satisfaction" title=" marital satisfaction"> marital satisfaction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=burnout%20tendencies" title=" burnout tendencies"> burnout tendencies</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=personality" title=" personality"> personality</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/104310/mediating-role-of-burnout-in-personality-and-marital-satisfaction-of-single-and-dual-career-couples" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/104310.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">173</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">417</span> The Effectiveness of Sexual Cognitive Behavioral Therapy on Strategic Thinking and Communication Patterns of Couples in Colostomy Patients</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alireza%20Monzavi%20Chaleshtari">Alireza Monzavi Chaleshtari</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mahnaz%20Aliakbari%20Dehkordi"> Mahnaz Aliakbari Dehkordi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Seyedeh%20Somayeh%20Amiri"> Seyedeh Somayeh Amiri</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mozhgan%20Shakhseniaei"> Mozhgan Shakhseniaei</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Amin%20Asadi%20Hieh"> Amin Asadi Hieh</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The purpose of this research was to determine the effectiveness of sexual cognitive behavioral therapy on strategic thinking and communication patterns of couples in colostomy patients. In this study, experimental research was conducted with a pre-test and post-test design with a control group and a follow-up period. The statistical population studied were married female colostomy patients referring to the Iranian Ostomy Association. 30 qualified people were selected by voluntary sampling and randomly divided into two experimental and control groups (15 people in each group). Both groups responded to Goleman's strategic thinking (2007) and the communication patterns of Christensen and Sulawai questionnaires (1984). The results of covariance analysis showed that sexual cognitive behavioral therapy has an effect on improving strategic thinking. Based on the results of this test, sexual cognitive behavioral therapy is effective in improving the strategic thinking of colostomy patients until the follow-up stage. Also, sexual cognitive behavioral therapy has an effect on improving the communication patterns of couples in colostomy patients. Based on the results of this test, sexual cognitive behavioral therapy is effective in improving communication patterns of couples in patients with colostomy until the follow-up stage. Based on the results of this research, sexual cognitive behavioral therapy can be used to improve strategic thinking and communication patterns of couples of colostomy patients. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sexual%20cognitive%20behavioral%20therapy" title="sexual cognitive behavioral therapy">sexual cognitive behavioral therapy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=strategic%20thinking" title=" strategic thinking"> strategic thinking</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=communication%20patterns%20of%20couples" title=" communication patterns of couples"> communication patterns of couples</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=colostomy" title=" colostomy"> colostomy</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/179048/the-effectiveness-of-sexual-cognitive-behavioral-therapy-on-strategic-thinking-and-communication-patterns-of-couples-in-colostomy-patients" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/179048.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">84</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">416</span> An Informed Application of Emotionally Focused Therapy with Immigrant Couples</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Reihaneh%20Mahdavishahri">Reihaneh Mahdavishahri</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper provides a brief introduction to emotionally focused therapy (EFT) and its culturally sensitive and informed application when working with immigrant couples. EFT's grounding in humanistic psychology prioritizes a non-pathologizing and empathic understanding of individuals' experiences, creating a safe space for couples to explore and create new experiences without imposing judgment or prescribing the couple "the right way of interacting" with one another. EFT's emphasis on attachment, bonding, emotions, and corrective emotional experiences makes it a fitting approach to work with multicultural couples, allowing for the corrective emotional experience to be shaped and informed by the couples' unique cultural background. This paper highlights the challenges faced by immigrant couples and explores how immigration adds a complex layer to each partner’s sense of self, their attachment bond, and their sense of safety and security within their relationships. Navigating a new culture, creating a shared sense of purpose, and re-establishing emotional bonds can be daunting for immigrant couples, often leading to a deep sense of disconnection and vulnerability. Reestablishing and fostering secure attachment between the partners in the safety of the therapeutic space can be a protective factor for these couples. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=attachment" title="attachment">attachment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=culturally%20informed%20care" title=" culturally informed care"> culturally informed care</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=emotionally%20focused%20therapy" title=" emotionally focused therapy"> emotionally focused therapy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=immigration" title=" immigration"> immigration</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/163969/an-informed-application-of-emotionally-focused-therapy-with-immigrant-couples" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/163969.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">73</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">415</span> Evaluation of the Factors Affecting Violence Against Women (Case Study: Couples Referring to Family Counseling Centers in Tehran)</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hassan%20Manouchehri">Hassan Manouchehri</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The present study aimed to identify and evaluate the factors affecting violence against women. The statistical population included all couples referring to family counseling centers in Tehran due to domestic violence during the past year. A number of 305 people were selected as a statistical sample using simple random sampling and Cochran's formula in unlimited conditions. A researcher-made questionnaire including 110 items was used for data collection. The face validity and content validity of the questionnaire were confirmed by 30 experts and its reliability was obtained above 0.7 for all studied variables in a preliminary test with 30 subjects and it was acceptable. In order to analyze the data, descriptive statistical methods were used with SPSS software version 22 and inferential statistics were used for modeling structural equations in Smart PLS software version 2. Evaluating the theoretical framework and domestic and foreign studies indicated that, in general, four main factors, including cultural and social factors, economic factors, legal factors, as well as medical factors, underlie violence against women. In addition, structural equation modeling findings indicated that cultural and social factors, economic factors, legal factors, and medical factors affect violence against women. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=violence%20against%20women" title="violence against women">violence against women</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cultural%20and%20social%20factors" title=" cultural and social factors"> cultural and social factors</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=economic%20factors" title=" economic factors"> economic factors</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=legal%20factors" title=" legal factors"> legal factors</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=medical%20factors" title=" medical factors"> medical factors</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/144449/evaluation-of-the-factors-affecting-violence-against-women-case-study-couples-referring-to-family-counseling-centers-in-tehran" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/144449.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">141</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">414</span> Effectiveness of Integrative Behavioral Couples Therapy on the Communication Patterns of Couples Applying for Divorce</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sakineh%20Abbasi%20Bourondaragh">Sakineh Abbasi Bourondaragh</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The aim of this research is effectiveness of integrative behavioral couples therapy on the communication patterns of couples applying for divorce. We selected (N=20) reports from Tabriz Family Judicial Complex (FJC) of couples which have conflict in their marital relationships. All of reports were released during 2012. First, they were randomly divided into two experimental and control groups and all the couples were given pre-test. They participated in twelve therapy sessions. Then the experimental group was exposed to an experimental intervention, but the control group was not received experimental intervention. The subjects were treated. At the end of treatment, a post-test was performed about subjects (each of two groups). The results showed that integrative behavioral couple therapy could increase and improve communication patterns. The findings also showed that integrative behavioral couples therapy had increased mutual constructive pattern and decreased demand/withdraw pattern and mutual avoidance pattern of CPQ sub-scale. Steady change indicator showed that the difference is clinically meaningful. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=integrative%20behavioral%20couple%20therapy" title="integrative behavioral couple therapy">integrative behavioral couple therapy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=communication%20patterns" title=" communication patterns"> communication patterns</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cognitive%20sciences" title=" cognitive sciences"> cognitive sciences</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Family%20Judicial%20Complex" title=" Family Judicial Complex"> Family Judicial Complex</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/9859/effectiveness-of-integrative-behavioral-couples-therapy-on-the-communication-patterns-of-couples-applying-for-divorce" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/9859.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">316</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">413</span> An Adaptive Application of Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy with Trans and Nonbinary Couples</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Reihaneh%20Mahdavishahri">Reihaneh Mahdavishahri</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dumayi%20Gutierrez"> Dumayi Gutierrez</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Emotionally focused couple therapy (EFCT) is one of the most effective and evidence-based approaches to couple therapy. Yet, literature is scarce of its effective application with trans and non-binary couples. It is estimated that 1.4 million trans adults live in the United Stated, with about 40% of these individuals experiencing serious psychological distress within the past month. Trans and nonbinary adults are significantly likely to experience discrimination, harassment, family rejection, and relationship challenges throughout the course of their lives. As systemic therapists, applying an informed lens when working with trans and nonbinary couples can contribute to providing effective mental health care to these individuals. This paper aims to provide a comprehensive, intersectional, and culturally informed application of EFCT with trans and nonbinary couples. We will address the current literature on applications of EFCT with diverse couples, EFCT’s strengths and limitations on cultural humility, and the gaps within current systems of care for trans and nonbinary couples. We will then provide an adaptive application of EFCT to help trans, and nonbinary couples recover from potential attachment injuries in their relationships, intersecting gender minority stressors, and achieve healing and restoration in their interpersonal dynamics. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=attachment" title="attachment">attachment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=culturally%20informed%20care" title=" culturally informed care"> culturally informed care</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=emotionally%20focused%20couple%20therapy" title=" emotionally focused couple therapy"> emotionally focused couple therapy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=trans%20and%20nonbinary%20couples" title=" trans and nonbinary couples"> trans and nonbinary couples</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/163873/an-adaptive-application-of-emotionally-focused-couple-therapy-with-trans-and-nonbinary-couples" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/163873.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">74</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">412</span> The Role of Smartphones on Iranian Couples&#039; Relationship: An Analysis</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Niloofar%20Hooman">Niloofar Hooman</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The present study aims at investigating the positive and negative effects of using Smartphones on couples committed relationships. Despite the fact that many couples may benefit from the positive aspects of Smartphones, it is not clear how their feeling of trust, intimacy and connection in their relationships get affected by Smartphones. This is important as it highlights the ambivalent influences of Smartphones on couple’s relationships. On the one hand, Smartphones can enhance their social and emotional interactions and on the other hand, they can cause mistrust and isolation between them. Trust, intimacy and honesty are of important factors through which a stable relationship can be constructed. Nevertheless, some characteristics of Smartphones such as being fluid and personalized can harm the relationship and consequently destroy it. Thus, it is necessary to investigate how Iranian couples in committed relationships use Smartphone to manage their relationship and how couples feel Smartphone have enhanced or detracted a sense of trust, intimacy and connection with their partner? In the first phase of the study, in-depth-interview will be conducted with 30 couples and data will be analyzed using NVIVO software. In the next phase of the study, 1500 participants aged 20 and above will be selected based on cluster sampling. Data will be analyzed both qualitatively and quantitatively. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=couple" title="couple">couple</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=family" title=" family"> family</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=internet" title=" internet"> internet</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=intimacy" title=" intimacy"> intimacy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Smartphone" title=" Smartphone"> Smartphone</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=trust" title=" trust"> trust</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/23305/the-role-of-smartphones-on-iranian-couples-relationship-an-analysis" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/23305.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">390</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">411</span> Effect of Gender Norms and Gender Equality on Depression and Quality of Life among Young and Old Married Couples</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Musarrat%20Jabeen">Musarrat Jabeen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fatima%20Zahra%20Khan"> Fatima Zahra Khan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hamida%20Bano"> Hamida Bano</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Faiza%20Anjum"> Faiza Anjum</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sara%20Tahir"> Sara Tahir</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kainat%20Umar"> Kainat Umar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Uzma%20Azam"> Uzma Azam</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The aim of this study was to examine the effect of gender norms and gender equality on depression and quality of life among young and old married couples. It was found that the old couples have a high quality of life than young couples, which further proved them to have positive attitude towards gender equality, negative attitude towards gender norms and low level of depression. Also, couples having positive attitude towards gender equality have high level of satisfaction with life than the ones having negative attitude towards gender norms, who have low level of depression. Also, having a negative attitude towards gender norms has adverse effects on the level of depression. To achieve a high quality of life, it would be helpful to evolve with the world, especially with respect to the concepts of gender norms and equality. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=depression" title="depression">depression</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gender%20equality" title=" gender equality"> gender equality</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gender%20norms" title=" gender norms"> gender norms</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=married%20couples" title=" married couples"> married couples</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=quality%20of%20life" title=" quality of life"> quality of life</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/120055/effect-of-gender-norms-and-gender-equality-on-depression-and-quality-of-life-among-young-and-old-married-couples" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/120055.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">162</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">410</span> Assortative Education and Working Arrangement among Married Couples in Indonesia</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ratu%20Khabiba">Ratu Khabiba</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Qisha%20Quarina"> Qisha Quarina</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This study aims to analyse the effect of married couples’ assortative educational attainments on the division of economic activities among themselves in the household. This study contributes to the literature on women’s participation in employment, especially among married women, to see whether the traditional values about gender roles in the household still continue to shape the employment participation among married women in Indonesia, despite increasing women’s human capital through education. This study utilizes the Indonesian National Socioeconomic Survey (SUSENAS) 2016 and estimates the results using the multinomial logit model. Our results show that compared to high-educated educational homogamy couples, educational heterogamy couples, especially hypergamy, have a higher probability of being a single-worker type. Moreover, the high-educated educational homogamy couples have the highest probability of being a dual-worker type. Thus, we found evidence that the traditional values of gender role segregation seem to still play a significant role in married women’s employment decision in Indonesia, particularly for couples’ with educational heterogamy and low-educated educational homogamy couples. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=assortative%20education" title="assortative education">assortative education</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dual-worker" title=" dual-worker"> dual-worker</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hypergamy" title=" hypergamy"> hypergamy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=homogamy" title=" homogamy"> homogamy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=traditional%20values" title=" traditional values"> traditional values</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=women%20labor%20participation" title=" women labor participation"> women labor participation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/105582/assortative-education-and-working-arrangement-among-married-couples-in-indonesia" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/105582.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">118</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">409</span> Assessing Effectiveness of Schema Mode Therapy and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy in Attachment Styles among Couples with Marital Conflict</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Reza%20Johari%20Fard">Reza Johari Fard</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Najmeh%20Cheraghi"> Najmeh Cheraghi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Parvin%20Ehtesham%20Zadeh"> Parvin Ehtesham Zadeh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Parviz%20Asgari"> Parviz Asgari</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The aim of this study was to investigate and comparison of the effectiveness of schema mode therapy and emotionally focused couples therapy in attachment styles (secure, avoidant, and anxious) in couples with marital conflict in a quasiexperimental method in a pretest, posttest, and follow up design with a control group. The statistical population of the study included all the couples with marital conflict who visited the Mehrana counseling center in 2019 in Ahvaz, Iran 45 couples were selected by voluntary sampling method and randomly divided into two experimental groups and one control group (15 pairs in each group). The participants completed the Adult Attachment Scale (Hazan and Shaver). The experimental groups underwent schema mode therapy and emotionally focused couples therapy for 12 sessions, but the control group did not receive any intervention. The data were analyzed by the statistical analysis of repeated measures in SPSS-19 software. The results showed that both schema mode therapy and emotionally focused couples therapy are effective in increasing the secure attachment style and reducing avoidant and ambivalent attachment styles in couples with marital conflict. There was no significant difference between the schema mode therapy group and the emotionally focused couple's therapy group in attachment styles. Therefore, it is recommended that therapists and family counselors use these therapies along with other therapeutic interventions to increase secure attachment styles and reduce marital conflicts. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=schema%20mode%20therapy" title="schema mode therapy">schema mode therapy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=emotional%20focused%20couple%20therapy" title=" emotional focused couple therapy"> emotional focused couple therapy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=attachment%20styles" title=" attachment styles"> attachment styles</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=marital%20conflict" title=" marital conflict"> marital conflict</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/165233/assessing-effectiveness-of-schema-mode-therapy-and-emotionally-focused-couples-therapy-in-attachment-styles-among-couples-with-marital-conflict" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/165233.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">111</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">408</span> Interplay with Difference and Identification: Alevi and Sunni Intermarriages in Turkey</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=G%C3%BCl%20%C3%96zate%C5%9Fler%20%C3%9Clk%C3%BCcan">Gül Özateşler Ülkücan</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This article dwells on the findings of a research project from 2014 to 2017 on intermarriages between people from Alevi and Sunni communities in the city of Izmir, on the western coast of Turkey. The research is composed of 43 individual in-depth interviews with Alevi-Sunni couples (18 couples and 7 individuals, to represent 25 couples in total). It reveals how classifying identities, people's self and group identifications and understanding of difference interplay throughout close interactions of marital experiences. The couples' sense of difference and categorical identifications are built through not only individual interactions but also historical construction of Aleviness and Sunniness, current debates on Islam, political discourses in Turkey, and the representation of locality. The research, thus, contributes to the discussions on the concepts of identity, culture, religion, marriage and communication in the peculiarities of the Turkish context. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Aleviness" title="Aleviness">Aleviness</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=difference" title=" difference"> difference</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=identifications" title=" identifications"> identifications</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=intermarriages" title=" intermarriages"> intermarriages</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sunniness" title=" Sunniness"> Sunniness</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Turkey" title=" Turkey"> Turkey</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/66803/interplay-with-difference-and-identification-alevi-and-sunni-intermarriages-in-turkey" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/66803.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">359</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">407</span> Gender Role Attitudes and Work-Life Balance among Dual-Earner Couples: A Case Study of Pakistan</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tipu%20Sultan">Tipu Sultan</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The proposed research intends to explore the gender role attitudes and work-life balance among dual-earner couples in Pakistan. With the increase of female labor force participation in Pakistan, the trend of dual-earner couples has been increased than ever before. This new trend of dual-earner families has significantly affected the personal life of dual-earner couples. Due to major change in household structures, the traditions and the routine activities are in continuous transition. Balancing work and family life is more complex in the patriarchal society of Pakistan because of the social expectations of gender roles. A dichotomous behavioral reflection is being observed in Pakistani society. The one group of people having an egalitarian attitude are supporting the new gender roles of females, whereas the other group of people having a traditional mindset is still in the favor of patriarchy. Therefore, gender roles are re-evaluated, and it would be more interesting to raise questions on the interplay of new gender roles and work-life balance among dual-earners. The semi-structured interview guide will be utilized to explore gender role attitudes, ideal and in-practice gender roles, experiences of work-life imbalances/balances, possible strategies to create a balance between work and family life among dual-earner couples. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dual-earner%20couples" title="dual-earner couples">dual-earner couples</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gender%20role%20attitudes" title=" gender role attitudes"> gender role attitudes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pakistan" title=" Pakistan"> Pakistan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=work-life%20balance" title=" work-life balance"> work-life balance</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/145665/gender-role-attitudes-and-work-life-balance-among-dual-earner-couples-a-case-study-of-pakistan" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/145665.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">151</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">406</span> Paternal Postpartum Depression and Its Relationship to Maternal Depression</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fatemeh%20Abdollahi">Fatemeh Abdollahi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mehran%20Zarghami"> Mehran Zarghami</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jamshid%20Yazdani%20Jarati"> Jamshid Yazdani Jarati</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mun-Sunn%20Lye"> Mun-Sunn Lye</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Fathers may be at risk of depression during the postpartum period. Some studies have been reported maternal depression is the key predictor of paternal postpartum depression (PPD). This study aimed to explore this association. Using a cross-sectional study design, 591 couples referring to primary health centers at 2-8 weeks postpartum (during 2017) were recruited. Couples screened for depression using Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS). Data on socio-demographic characteristics and psychosocial factors was also gathered. Paternal PPD was analyzed in relation to maternal PPD and other related factors using multiple regressions. The prevalence of Paternal and maternal postpartum depression was 15.7% (93) and 31.8% (188), respectively. The regression model showed that there was increased risk of PPD in fathers whose wives experienced PPD [OR=1.15, (95%CI: 1.04-1.27)], who had a lower state of general health [OR=1.21, (95%CI: 1.11-1.33)], who experienced increased number of life events [OR=1.42, (95%CI: 1.01-1.2.00)], and who were at older age [OR=1.20, (95%CI: 1.05- 1.36)]. Also, there was a decreased risk of depression in fathers with more children compared with those with fewer children [OR=0.20, (95%CI: 0.07-0.53)]. Maternal PPD and psychosocial risk factors were the strong predictors of parental PPD. Being grown up in a family with two depressed parents are an important issue for children and needs futher research and attention. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Father" title="Father">Father</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mother" title=" Mother"> Mother</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Postpartum%20depression" title=" Postpartum depression"> Postpartum depression</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Risk%20factors" title=" Risk factors"> Risk factors</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/124312/paternal-postpartum-depression-and-its-relationship-to-maternal-depression" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/124312.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">146</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">405</span> Experiences of Marital Relationship of Middle-Aged Couples in Hong Kong: Implications for Services Interventions</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wai%20M.%20Shum">Wai M. Research studies have been largely based on western contexts, which found a curvilinear U-shaped trend in changes of marital satisfaction over the course of a marriage, but little is known about the marital experiences of Hong Kong couples. Through in-depth interviews, this qualitative study explored the marital relationship of middle-aged couples in a satisfying marriage and to identify how couples maintain a satisfying relationship in the local context. Findings from this study suggested twelve themes with some showing consistency with previous literature, such as communication, companionship, trust, and fidelity. The affective aspects of empathetic understanding and perceived empathy were found to have an enormous effect on couples’ bondedness. The high level of differentiation and security served as a basis for unconditional contribution, acceptance, and adjustment to unsolvable issues such that negative emotion would not be escalated. The manifestations of intimacy and commitment in the triangular theory of love were more frequently addressed than passion in striving for marital longevity in the local context. This study challenged the curvilinear trend of marital satisfaction throughout marriage, with couples showing different pathways of marital satisfaction. The study gave insights on martial enrichment, such as facilitating couples to disclose their vulnerabilities, desire for physical intimacy, and passion in the pursuit of enduring marriage instead of an emphasis on skills training on communication and conflict resolution. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=intimacy" title="intimacy">intimacy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=marital%20relationship" title=" marital relationship"> marital relationship</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=marital%20satisfaction" title=" marital satisfaction"> marital satisfaction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=middle-aged" title=" middle-aged"> middle-aged</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/127880/experiences-of-marital-relationship-of-middle-aged-couples-in-hong-kong-implications-for-services-interventions" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/127880.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">114</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">404</span> Outcomes of Using Guidelines for Caring and Referring ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) Patients at the Accident and Emergency Department of Songkhla Hospital, Thailand </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Thanom%20Kaeniam">Thanom Kaeniam</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) is a state of sudden death of the heart muscle due to sudden blockage of the artery. STEMI patients are usually in critical condition and with a potential opportunity for sudden death. Therefore, management guidelines for safety in caring and referring STEMI patients are needed. The objective of this developmental research was to assess the effectiveness of using the guidelines for caring and referring STEMI patients at the Accident and Emergency Department of Songkhla Hospital. The subjects of the study were 22 nurses in the emergency room, and doctors on duty in the accident and emergency room selected using purposive sampling with inclusion criteria. The research instruments were the guidelines for caring and referring STEMI patients, and record forms for the effectiveness of using the guidelines for caring and referring STEMI patients (a general record form for STEMI patients, a record form for SK administering, a referring record form for PCI, and a record form for dead patient in the accident and emergency room and during referring). The instruments were tested for content validity by three experts, and the reliability was tested using Kuder-Richardson 20 (KR20). The descriptive statistic employed was the percentage. The outcomes of using the guidelines for caring and referring ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) Patients at the Accident and Emergency Department revealed that before using the guidelines in 2009, 2010, and 2011, there were 84, 73, and 138 STEMI patients receiving services at the accident and emergency room, of which, only 9, 32, and 48 patients were referred for PCI/SK medications, or 10.74; 43.84; and 34.78 percent, and the death rates were 10.71; 10.95; and 11.59 percent, respectively. However, after the use of the guidelines in 2012, 2013, and 2014, there were 97, 77, and 57 patients, of which, the increases to 77, 72, and 55 patients were referred for PCI /SK medications or 79.37; 93.51; and 96.49 percent, and the death rates were reduced to 10.30; 6.49; and 1.76 percent, respectively. The results of the study revealed that the use of the guidelines for caring and referring STEMI patients at the Accident and Emergency Department increased the effectiveness and quality of nursing, especially in terms of SK medication, caring and referring patients for PCI to reduce the death rate. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=outcomes" title="outcomes">outcomes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=guidelines%20for%20caring" title=" guidelines for caring"> guidelines for caring</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=referring" title=" referring"> referring</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=myocardial%20infarction" title=" myocardial infarction"> myocardial infarction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=STEMI" title=" STEMI "> STEMI </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/25047/outcomes-of-using-guidelines-for-caring-and-referring-st-elevation-myocardial-infarction-stemi-patients-at-the-accident-and-emergency-department-of-songkhla-hospital-thailand" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/25047.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">395</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">403</span> The Impact of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) on Marital Satisfaction in Iranian Couples: The Mediating Role of Sexual and Romantic Relationship Dynamics</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Melika%20Masjedi">Melika Masjedi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) has a significant impact on the mental health and relationship dynamics of couples, leading to decreased marital satisfaction. Studies reveal that the preferences of fertility are actually significant in determining the society’s fertility levels because the fertility behavior of the future has a high likelihood of falling under the effect of currently observed fertility inclinations. The objective of this study was to establish the factors associated with fertility preference amongst couples in Kenya by fitting a multinomial logistic regression model against 5,265 couple data obtained from Kenya demographic health survey 2014. Results revealed that the type of place of residence, the region of residence, age and spousal age gap significantly influence desire for additional children among couples in Kenya. There was the notable high likelihood of couples living in rural settlements having similar fertility preference compared to those living in urban settlements. Moreover, geographical disparities such as in northern Kenya revealed significant differences in a couples desire to have additional children compared to Nairobi. The odds of a couple’s desire for additional children were further observed to vary dependent on either the wife or husbands age and to a large extent the spousal age gap. Evidenced from the study, was the fact that as spousal age gap increases, the desire for more children amongst couples decreases. Insights derived from this study would be attractive to demographers, health practitioners, policymakers, and non-governmental organizations implementing fertility related interventions in Kenya among other stakeholders. Moreover, with the adoption of devolution, there is a clear need for adoption of population policies that are County specific as opposed to a national population policy as is the current practice in Kenya. Additionally, researchers or students who have little understanding in the application of multinomial logistic regression, both theoretical understanding and practical analysis in SPSS as well as application on real datasets, will find this article useful. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=couples%27%20desire" title="couples&#039; desire">couples&#039; desire</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fertility" title=" fertility"> fertility</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fertility%20preference" title=" fertility preference"> fertility preference</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=multinomial%20regression%20analysis" title=" multinomial regression analysis"> multinomial regression analysis</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/88937/a-multinomial-logistic-regression-analysis-of-factors-influencing-couples-fertility-preferences-in-kenya" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/88937.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">181</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">400</span> The Role of Personality and Attitude on Marital Conflict</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hajar%20Mohafezatkar%20Abadi">Hajar Mohafezatkar Abadi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The family foundation is formed by marriage, and each couple, with their unique attitudes and personalities, takes a step into marriage. Regarding family issue importance, a lot of research has been done around this topic which can be an effective step toward improving couples' life quality. The aim of the present study was to determine the role of personality and attitude on marital conflict. 306 couples (153 females, 153 males) were selected using multistage cluster sampling. The participants completed the personality Questionnaire (16PF, Cattell, 1975), marital conflict Questionnaire (MCQ-R, Sanaee Zaker, 1387), and dysfunctional attitude Questionnaire (DAS-26, Weissman & beck. 1987). The regression analysis results indicated that some personality traits and dysfunctional attitudes had a significant positive correlation with marital conflict. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=marital%20conflict" title="marital conflict">marital conflict</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dysfunctional%20attitude" title=" dysfunctional attitude"> dysfunctional attitude</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=personality" title=" personality"> personality</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=personality%20questionnaire%20%2816PF%29" title=" personality questionnaire (16PF)"> personality questionnaire (16PF)</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/156738/the-role-of-personality-and-attitude-on-marital-conflict" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/156738.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">104</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">399</span> The Prevalence of X-Chromosome Aneuploidy in Recurrent Pregnancy Loss</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rim%20Frikha">Rim Frikha</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nouha%20Bouayed"> Nouha Bouayed</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Afifa%20Sellami"> Afifa Sellami</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nozha%20Chakroun"> Nozha Chakroun</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Salima%20Douad"> Salima Douad</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Leila%20Keskes"> Leila Keskes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tarek%20Rebai"> Tarek Rebai</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL), classically defined as the occurrence of two or more failed pregnancies, is a serious reproductive problem, in which, chromosomal rearrangements in either carrier are a major cause; mainly the chromosome aneuploidy. This study was conducted to determine the frequency and contribution of X-chromosome aneuploidy in recurrent pregnancy loss. A retrospective study was carried out among 100 couples with more than 2 miscarriages, referred to our genetic counseling. In all the cases the detailed reproductive histories were taken. Chromosomal analysis was performed using RHG banding in peripheral blood. Of a total of 100 couples; 3 patients with a detected X-chromosome aneuploidy were identified with an overall frequency of 3%. Chromosome abnormalities are as below: a Turner syndrome with 45, X/46, XX mosaicism, a 47, XXX, and a Klinefelter syndrome with 46, XY/47, XXY. These data show a high incidence of X-chromosome aneuploidy; mainly with mosaicism; in RPL. Thus, couples with such chromosomal abnormality should be referred to a clinical geneticist with whom the option of pre-implantation genetic diagnosis in subsequent pregnancy should be discussed. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=aneuploidy" title="aneuploidy">aneuploidy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=genetic%20testing" title=" genetic testing"> genetic testing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=recurrent%20pregnancy%20loss" title="recurrent pregnancy loss">recurrent pregnancy loss</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=X-chromosome" title=" X-chromosome"> X-chromosome</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/45376/the-prevalence-of-x-chromosome-aneuploidy-in-recurrent-pregnancy-loss" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/45376.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">360</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">398</span> Perception of the End of a Same Sex Relationship and Preparation towards It: A Qualitative Research about Anticipation, Coping and Conflict Management against the Backdrop of Partial Legal Recognition</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Merav%20Meiron-Goren">Merav Meiron-Goren</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Orna%20Braun-Lewensohn"> Orna Braun-Lewensohn</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tal%20Litvak-Hirsh"> Tal Litvak-Hirsh</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In recent years, there has been an increasing tendency towards separation and divorce in relationships. Nevertheless, many couples in a first marriage do not anticipate this as a probable possibility and do not make any preparation for it. Same sex couples establishing a family encounter a much more complicated situation than do heterosexual couples. Although there is a trend towards legal recognition of same sex marriage, many countries, including Israel, do not recognize it. The absence of legal recognition or the existence of partial recognition creates complexity for these couples. They have to fight for their right to establish a family, like the recognition of the biological child of a woman, as a child of her woman spouse too, or the option of surrogacy for a male couple who want children, and more. The lack of legal recognition is burden on the lives of these couples. In the absence of clear norms regarding the conduct of the family unit, the couples must define for themselves the family structure, and deal with everyday dilemmas that lack institutional solutions. This may increase the friction between the two couple members, and it is one of the factors that make it difficult for them to maintain the relationship. This complexity exists, perhaps even more so, in separation. The end of relationship is often accompanied by a deep crisis, causing pain and stress. In most cases, there are also other conflicts that must be settled. These are more complicated when rights are in doubt or do not exist at all. Complex issues for separating same sex couples may include matters of property, recognition of parenthood, and care and support for the children. The significance of the study is based on the fact that same sex relationships are becoming more and more widespread, and are an integral part of the society. Even so, there is still an absence of research focusing on such relationships and their ending. The objective of the study is to research the perceptions of same sex couples regarding the possibility of separation, preparing for it, conflict management and resolving disputes through the separation process. It is also important to understand the point of view of couples that have gone through separation, how they coped with the emotional and practical difficulties involved in the separation process. The doctoral research will use a qualitative research method in a phenomenological approach, based on semi-structured in-depth interviews. The interviewees will be divided into three groups- at the beginning of a relationship, during the separation crisis and after separation, with a time perspective, with about 10 couples from each group. The main theoretical model serving as the basis of the study will be the Lazarus and Folkman theory of coping with stress. This model deals with the coping process, including cognitive appraisal of an experience as stressful, appraisal of the coping resources, and using strategies of coping. The strategies are divided into two main groups, emotion-focused forms of coping and problem-focused forms of coping. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=conflict%20management" title="conflict management">conflict management</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=coping" title=" coping"> coping</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=legal%20recognition" title=" legal recognition"> legal recognition</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=same-sex%20relationship" title=" same-sex relationship"> same-sex relationship</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=separation" title=" separation"> separation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/97148/perception-of-the-end-of-a-same-sex-relationship-and-preparation-towards-it-a-qualitative-research-about-anticipation-coping-and-conflict-management-against-the-backdrop-of-partial-legal-recognition" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/97148.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">142</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">397</span> Experiences of HIV Positive Serostatus Disclosure to Sexual Partner Among Individuals in Discordant Couples in Mbarara City, Southwestern Uganda</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Humphrey%20Atwijukiire">Humphrey Atwijukiire</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Gladys%20Nakidde"> Gladys Nakidde</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Anne%20Tweheyo%20Otwine"> Anne Tweheyo Otwine</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jane%20Kabami"> Jane Kabami</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Experiences of HIV Positive Serostatus Disclosure to Sexual Partner Among Individuals in Discordant Couples in Mbarara City, Southwestern Uganda Introduction: Disclosure of HIV status is key in HIV management. Despite many studies on serostatus disclosure, there is a gap in experiences regarding HIV status disclosure among discordant couples. This study explored the lived experiences of serostatus disclosure among discordant couples in Mbarara City, South Western Uganda. Methods: We conducted 12 in-depth interviews using translated interview guide, and audio recorders. Participants were purposively enrolled in the study. The study was conducted at three public health facilities in Mbarara City. Data was analyzed using thematic content analysis. Approval for this research was obtained from Mbarara University Research Ethics Committee and administrative clearance from city clerk of Mbarara City. Results: The mean age of participants was 38 years. An equal number of males (six) and females participated. Most of them had at least secondary level education, only three had primary education. Experienced benefits of HIV serostatus disclosure included: social support and care; decisions regarding health, fertility, and child bearing; sharing information on HIV prevention and protection; positive living; and, ease of HIV disclosure. The challenges included: misunderstandings in the families. Conclusion: Socially, psychologically and financially PLWHIV have benefited from their negative partners. Health wise, they have been supported, and cared for, but some have faced challenges, such as family misunderstandings. Couple HIV counseling and testing by a trained health worker is beneficial in HIV care and could mitigate the challenges related HIV serostatus disclosure. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=discordant%20couples" title="discordant couples">discordant couples</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=disclosure" title=" disclosure"> disclosure</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=experiences" title=" experiences"> experiences</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=HIV" title=" HIV"> HIV</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/154820/experiences-of-hiv-positive-serostatus-disclosure-to-sexual-partner-among-individuals-in-discordant-couples-in-mbarara-city-southwestern-uganda" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/154820.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">131</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">396</span> Mental Health of Childless Couples: A Psychosocial Study</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Digambar%20J.%20Darekar">Digambar J. It leads to anxiety, frustration, nervousness, depression, loneliness, helplessness, hopelessness, etc. After reviewing the literature, it is found that mental health of married couples is negatively related to childlessness. To understand emotional and psychological problems of a childless couple, researcher surveyed and interviewed 50 childless couples with the help of medical practitioner and gynecologist. Personal adjustment and mental health inventory and marital adjustment inventory along with semi-structured interview questionnaire was used. On the basis of responses from the subject, distinction is made between the problems of male subjects and female subjects and common problem separately. The researcher found that childlessness leads to the conflict between in-laws, harassment, hopelessness, feeling of emptiness and vacuumed, frustration, lack of hope and desire for life, restlessness, loss of sleep, ideas of committing suicide, increased emotional distance and disturbed marital life. The childlessness leads to sorrow for women and anger for men. Men turns towards addiction and women tend to avoid social contact and face problems of social adjustments. Childless couples are sufferers of personal and marital adjustment problems which in turn affect their mental health adversely. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=childlessness" title="childlessness">childlessness</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=marital%20adjustments" title=" marital adjustments"> marital adjustments</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mental%20health" title=" mental health"> mental health</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=social%20adjustment" title=" social adjustment"> social adjustment</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/55116/mental-health-of-childless-couples-a-psychosocial-study" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/55116.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">193</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">395</span> Autonomy and Other Variables Related to the Expression of Love among Saudi Couples</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Reshaa%20Alruwaili">Reshaa Alruwaili</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The primary aim of this study was to examine the hypothesis presented by Self Determination theory which suggests that autonomy impacts positively the expression of love. Other hypotheses were also examined which suggest that other variables explain the expression of love, including: dyadic adjustment (dyadic consensus, dyadic satisfaction and dyadic cohesion), couple satisfaction, age, gender, the length of marriage, number of children and attachment styles. The participants were Saudi couples, which provided the opportunity to consider the influence of Saudi culture on the expression of love. A questionnaire was employed to obtain measures of all the relevant variables, including a measure of expression of love that was built from 27 items, constituting verbal, physical and caring features, and a measure of autonomy based on three features: authorship, interest-taking and susceptibility. Data were collected from both members of 34 Saudi couples. Descriptive analysis of both expression of love and autonomy was conducted. Correlation and regression were used to assess the relationships between expression of love and autonomy and other variables. Results indicated that Saudi couples who most often express their love tend to be more than somewhat autonomous. Not much difference was found between husbands and wives in expressing love, although wives were slightly more autonomous than husbands. Expression of love was enhanced by the autonomy of the participants to a greater extent when dyadic satisfaction was controlled, since the latter was negatively correlated with autonomy and had no effect on the expression of love. Basic psychological needs, dyadic consensus and dismissive-avoidant attachment improve the expression of love, while it is decreased by the number of children. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=autonomy" title="autonomy">autonomy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=determination%20theory" title=" determination theory"> determination theory</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=expression%20of%20love" title=" expression of love"> expression of love</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dyadic%20adjustment" title=" dyadic adjustment "> dyadic adjustment </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/73995/autonomy-and-other-variables-related-to-the-expression-of-love-among-saudi-couples" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/73995.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">232</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">394</span> Predicting Marital Burnout Based on Irrational Beliefs and Sexual Dysfunction of Couples</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Elnaz%20Bandeh">Elnaz Bandeh</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This study aimed to predict marital burnout based on irrational beliefs and sexual dysfunction of couples. However, less is known on the relationship and predictors of paternal and maternal breastfeeding self-efficacy. This study aimed to examine the relationship and associated factors of breastfeeding self-efficacy (BSE) among mothers and fathers in Malawi. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 180 pairs of postpartum mothers and fathers at a tertiary maternity facility in central Malawi. BSE was measured using the Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale Short-Form. Depressive symptoms were assessed by the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale. A structured questionnaire was used to collect demographic and health variables. Data were analyzed using multivariable logistic regression and multinomial logistic regression. Results: A higher score of self-efficacy was found in mothers (mean=55.7, Standard Deviation (SD) =6.5) compared to fathers (mean=50.2, SD=11.9). A significant association between paternal and maternal breastfeeding self-efficacy was found (r= 0. 32). Age, employment status, mode of birth was significantly related to maternal and paternal BSE, respectively. Older age and caesarean section delivery were significant factors of combined BSE scores in couples. A higher BSE score in either the mother or her partner predicted higher exclusive breastfeeding rates. BSE scores were lower when couples’ depressive symptoms were high. Conclusion: BSE are highly correlated between Malawian mothers and fathers, with a relatively higher score in maternal BSE. Importantly, a high BSE in couples predicted higher odds of exclusive breastfeeding, which highlights the need to include both mothers and fathers in future breastfeeding promotion strategies. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=paternal" title="paternal">paternal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=maternal" title=" maternal"> maternal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=exclusive%20breastfeeding" title=" exclusive breastfeeding"> exclusive breastfeeding</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=breastfeeding%20self%E2%80%91efficacy" title=" breastfeeding self‑efficacy"> breastfeeding self‑efficacy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=malawi" title=" malawi"> malawi</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/175180/relationship-and-associated-factors-of-breastfeeding-self-efficacy-among-postpartum-couples-in-malawi-a-cross-sectional-study" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/175180.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">68</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">392</span> The &#039;Toshi-No-Sakon&#039; Phenomenon: A Trend in Japanese Family Formations</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Franco%20Lorenzo%20D.%20Morales">Franco Lorenzo D. Morales</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> ‘Toshi-no-sakon,’ which translates to as ‘age gap marriage,’ is a term that has been popularized by celebrity couples in the Japanese entertainment industry. Japan is distinct for a developed nation for its rapidly aging population, declining marital and fertility rates, and the reinforcement of traditional gender roles. Statistical data has shown that the average age of marriage in Japan is increasing every year, showing a growing tendency for late marriage. As a result, the government has been trying to curb the declining trends by encouraging marriage and childbirth among the populace. This graduate thesis seeks to analyze the ‘toshi-no-sakon’ phenomenon in lieu of Japan’s current economic and social situation, and to see what the implications are for these kinds of married couples. This research also seeks to expound more on age gaps within married couples, which is a factor rarely-touched upon in Japanese family studies. A literature review was first performed in order to provide a framework to study ‘toshi-no-sakon’ from the perspective of four fields of study—marriage, family, aging, and gender. Numerous anonymous online statements by ‘toshi-no-sakon’ couples were then collected and analyzed, which brought to light a number of concerns. Couples wherein the husband is the older partner were prioritized in order to narrow down the focus of the research, and ‘toshi-no-sakon’ is only considered when the couple’s age gap is ten years or more. Current findings suggest that one of the perceived merits for a woman to marry an older man is that financial security would be guaranteed. However, this has been shown to be untrue as a number of couples express concern regarding their financial situation, which could be attributed to their husband’s socio-economic status. Having an older husband who is approaching the age of retirement presents another dilemma as the wife would be more obliged to provide care for her aging husband. This notion of the wife being a caregiver likely stems from an arrangement once common in Japanese families in which the wife must primarily care for her husband’s elderly parents. Childbearing is another concern as couples would be pressured to have a child right away due to the age of the husband, in addition to limiting the couple’s ideal number of children. This is another problematic aspect as the husband would have to provide income until his child has finished their education, implying that retirement would have to be delayed indefinitely. It is highly recommended that future studies conduct face-to-face interviews with couples and families who fall under the category of ‘toshi-no-sakon’ in order to gain a more in-depth perspective into the phenomenon and to reveal any undiscovered trends. Cases wherein the wife is the older partner in the relationship should also be given focus in future studies involving ‘toshi-no-sakon’. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=age%20gap" title="age gap">age gap</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=family%20structure" title=" family structure"> family structure</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gender%20roles" title=" gender roles"> gender roles</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=marriage%20trends" title=" marriage trends"> marriage trends</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/125684/the-toshi-no-sakon-phenomenon-a-trend-in-japanese-family-formations" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/125684.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">364</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">391</span> Living Together Apart: Gender Differences in Transnational Couple Living Perceptions in the Ghanaian Context</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rodlyn%20Remina%20Hines">Rodlyn Remina Hines</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Males and Females respond differently to life situations, including transnational living. Being in a transnational marriage relationship may put a strain on the relationship requiring partners to adjust their behaviors and expectancies of the other partner to accommodate the disruptions in the relationship. More so, when one partner is an immigrant to a new geographic location with the other in the native country, these disruptions may be intensive. This qualitative study examined gender differences in how married Ghanaian couples respond to making a life together as a couple while living across international borders. The study asked two questions: (1) What are the perceptions of males and females on transnational living? and (2) how do married males and females respond to transnational living situations? To answer these questions, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 24 married couples- with one partner living in the United States (U.S.) and the other spouse in Ghana via purposive and snowball sampling techniques. Participants were aged 26 to 59 years with an average age of 40; the average age of relationship: 10.41; and average years of living apart: 6.7. Induction and deduction hybrid analysis strategies were used to derive emerging themes. The results highlight significant gender differences in response to transnational living status and practices. The data indicate that transnational couples with the male spouse residing in the U.S. experience more relationship strains than is the case when the female partner is the immigrant. Three couples who were in divorce proceedings at the time of the interview had the male partner residing in the U.S. and the female spouse in Ghana. These gender differences also reflected spousal visitation frequency, duration of spousal reunification, amount of and frequency of spousal remittance(s), and immigration processing procedures. Finally, the data show female immigrant partners as better managers of transnational living stresses and strains than their male counterparts. Findings from this study have implications for marriage and family practitioners and immigration policy makers. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gender%20differences" title="gender differences">gender differences</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=" title=" "> </a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ghanaian%20couples" title=" ghanaian couples"> ghanaian couples</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ghanaian%20immigrants" title=" ghanaian immigrants"> ghanaian immigrants</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=transnational%20living" title=" transnational living"> transnational living</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/164627/living-together-apart-gender-differences-in-transnational-couple-living-perceptions-in-the-ghanaian-context" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/164627.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">84</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">390</span> Fathers’ Depression and its Relationship with Mothers’ Depression During Postpartum Period</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fatemeh%20Abdollahi">Fatemeh Abdollahi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Munn-Sann%20Lye"> Munn-Sann Lye</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jamshid%20Yazdani%20Charati"> Jamshid Yazdani Charati</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mehran%20Zarghami"> Mehran Zarghami</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Fathers are at risk of depression during the postpartum period. Some studies have been reported maternal depression is the key predictor of paternal postpartum depression (PPD). This study aimed to estimate the prevalence and predictors of parental PPD and its association with maternal PPD. In a cross-sectional study, via a stratified random and convenience sampling method, participants referring to health centers during 2-8 weeks postpartum were recruited from March to October 2017. Paternal PPD and its relation to maternal PPD and other related factors were assessed using multiple logistic regression. Participants were 591 literate couples who referred to Mazandaran province primary health centers during to study period. Couples were screened for depression using Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS). Fathers provided information on socio-demographic characteristics, life events, neonatal stressor, perceived stress (Perceived Stress Scale), social support (Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support), and general health status using General Health Questionnaire (GHQ) as well. Data on mothers ‘demographic characteristics and obstetrics factors was also gathered. Overall, 93 fathers (15.7%) and 188 mothers (31.8%) reported depressive symptoms above the cut-off EPDS score of 12. In the multiple logistic regression model, older age [OR=1.20, (95%CI: 1.05- 1.36)], maternal depressive symptoms [OR=1.15, (95%CI: 1.04-1.27)], higher GHQ scores [OR=1.21, (95%CI: 1.11-1.33)] and increased recent life events [OR=1.42, (95%CI: 1.01-1.2.00)] were related to paternal PPD. A significant inverse association was found between number of children and paternal PPD [OR=0.20, (95%CI: 0.07-0.53)]. Depressive symptoms, especially in first-time fathers following the birth of a child, are not uncommon. Maternal depressive symptoms and paternal well-being were strong predictors of parental PPD. Creating opportunities for men to access special health care services, parental education to help adapting to parenthood, screening programs, and psychiatric/psychosocial interventions to decrease the suffering of depression for both depressed parents are recommended. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=depression"
