class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Ontology operations, e.g., aligning and merging, were studied and implemented extensively in different settings, such as categorical operations, relation algebras, and typed graph grammars, with different concerns. However, aligning and merging operations in the settings share some generic properties, e.g., idempotence, commutativity, associativity, and representativity, labeled by (I), (C), (A), and (R), respectively, which are defined on an ontology merging system (D~M), where D is a non-empty set of the ontologies concerned, ~ is a binary relation on D modeling ontology aligning and M is a partial binary operation on D modeling ontology merging. Given an ontology repository, a finite set O ⊆ D, its merging closure Ô is the smallest set of ontologies, which contains the repository and is closed with respect to merging. If (I), (C), (A), and (R) are satisfied, then both D and Ô are partially ordered naturally by merging, Ô is finite and can be computed, compared, and sorted efficiently, including sorting, selecting, and querying some specific elements, e.g., maximal ontologies and minimal ontologies. We also show that the ontology merging system, given by ontology V -alignment pairs and pushouts, satisfies the properties: (I), (C), (A), and (R) so that the merging system is partially ordered and the merging closure of a given repository with respect to pushouts can be computed efficiently. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ontology%20aligning" title="ontology aligning">ontology aligning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ontology%20merging" title=" ontology merging"> ontology merging</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=merging%20system" title=" merging system"> merging system</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=poset" title=" poset"> poset</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=merging%20closure" title=" merging closure"> merging closure</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ontology%20V-alignment%20pair" title=" ontology V-alignment pair"> ontology V-alignment pair</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ontology%20homomorphism" title=" ontology homomorphism"> ontology homomorphism</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ontology%20V-alignment%20pair%20homomorphism" title=" ontology V-alignment pair homomorphism"> ontology V-alignment pair homomorphism</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pushout" title=" pushout"> pushout</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/155767/merging-and-comparing-ontologies-generically" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/155767.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">893</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">37221</span> Merging of Results in Distributed Information Retrieval Systems</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Larbi%20Guezouli">Larbi Guezouli</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Imane%20Azzouz"> Imane Azzouz</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This work is located in the domain of distributed information retrieval ‘DIR’. Simulations are carried out on 5- and 8-station lines with 1, 2 and 4 buffer capacity units, % degrees of line imbalance of 2, 5 and 12, and 24 different patterns of means imbalance. Data on two performance measures, namely throughput and average buffer level were gathered, statistically analysed and compared to a merging balanced line counterpart. It was found that the best configurations are a balanced line arrangement and a monotone decreasing order for each of the parallel merging lines, with the first generally resulting in a lower throughput and the second leading to a lower average buffer level than those of a balanced line. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=average%20buffer%20level" title="average buffer level">average buffer level</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=merging%20lines" title=" merging lines"> merging lines</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=simulation" title=" simulation"> simulation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=throughput" title=" throughput"> throughput</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=unbalanced" title=" unbalanced"> unbalanced</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/42374/the-operating-behaviour-of-unbalanced-unpaced-merging-assembly-lines" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/42374.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">321</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">37219</span> Grain Boundary Detection Based on Superpixel Merges</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Gaokai%20Liu">Gaokai Liu</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The distribution of material grain sizes reflects the strength, fracture, corrosion and other properties, and the grain size can be acquired via the grain boundary. In recent years, the automatic grain boundary detection is widely required instead of complex experimental operations. Then, a region merging method is employed to merge adjacent regions based on certain similarity criterions, the experimental results show that the merging strategy improves the superpixel segmentation result on material datasets. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=grain%20boundary%20detection" title="grain boundary detection">grain boundary detection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=image%20segmentation" title=" image segmentation"> image segmentation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=material%20images" title=" material images"> material images</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=region%20merging" title=" region merging"> region merging</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/133188/grain-boundary-detection-based-on-superpixel-merges" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/133188.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">170</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">37218</span> Merging Sequence Diagrams Based Slicing</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bouras%20Zine%20Eddine">Bouras Zine Eddine</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Talai%20Abdelouaheb"> Talai Abdelouaheb</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The need to merge software artifacts seems inherent to modern software development. Distribution of development over several teams and breaking tasks into smaller, more manageable pieces are an effective means to deal with the kind of complexity. In each case, the separately developed artifacts need to be assembled as efficiently as possible into a consistent whole in which the parts still function as described. Also, earlier changes are introduced into the life cycle and easier is their management by designers. Interaction-based specifications such as UML sequence diagrams have been found effective in this regard. As a result, sequence diagrams can be used not only for capturing system behaviors but also for merging changes in order to create a new version. The objective of this paper is to suggest a new approach to deal with the problem of software merging at the level of sequence diagrams by using the concept of dependence analysis that captures, formally, all mapping and differences between elements of sequence diagrams and serves as a key concept to create a new version of sequence diagram. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=system%20behaviors" title="system behaviors">system behaviors</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sequence%20diagram%20merging" title=" sequence diagram merging"> sequence diagram merging</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dependence%20analysis" title=" dependence analysis"> dependence analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sequence%20diagram%20slicing" title=" sequence diagram slicing"> sequence diagram slicing</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/29735/merging-sequence-diagrams-based-slicing" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/29735.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">340</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">37217</span> Effects of Merging Personal and Social Responsibility with Sports Education Model on Students&#039; Game Performance and Responsibility</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yi-Hsiang%20Pan">Yi-Hsiang Pan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chen-Hui%20Huang"> Chen-Hui Huang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wei-Ting%20Hsu"> Wei-Ting Hsu</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The purposes of the study were to understand these topics as follows: 1. To explore the effect of merging teaching personal and social responsibility (TPSR) with sports education model on students' game performance and responsibility. 2. To explore the effect of sports education model on students' game performance and responsibility. 3. To compare the difference between "merging TPSR with sports education model" and "sports education model" on students' game performance and responsibility. The participants include three high school physical education teachers and six physical education classes. Every teacher teaches an experimental group and a control group. The participants had 121 students, including 65 students in the experimental group and 56 students in the control group. The research methods had game performance assessment, questionnaire investigation, interview, focus group meeting. The research instruments include personal and social responsibility questionnaire and game performance assessment instrument. Paired t-test test and MANCOVA were used to test the difference between "merging TPSR with sports education model" and "sports education model" on students' learning performance. 1) "Merging TPSR with sports education model" showed significant improvements in students' game performance, and responsibilities with self-direction, helping others, cooperation. 2) "Sports education model" also had significant improvements in students' game performance, and responsibilities with effort, self-direction, helping others. 3.) There was no significant difference in game performance and responsibilities between "merging TPSR with sports education model" and "sports education model". 4)."Merging TPSR with sports education model" significantly improve learning atmosphere and peer relationships, it may be developed in the physical education curriculum. The conclusions were as follows: Both "Merging TPSR with sports education model" and "sports education model" can help improve students' responsibility and game performance. However, "Merging TPSR with sports education model" can reduce the competitive atmosphere in highly intensive games between students. The curricular projects of hybrid TPSR-Sport Education model is a good approach for moral character education. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=curriculum%20and%20teaching%20model" title="curriculum and teaching model">curriculum and teaching model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sports%20self-efficacy" title=" sports self-efficacy"> sports self-efficacy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sport%20enthusiastic" title=" sport enthusiastic"> sport enthusiastic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=character%20education" title=" character education"> character education</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/51173/effects-of-merging-personal-and-social-responsibility-with-sports-education-model-on-students-game-performance-and-responsibility" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/51173.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">313</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">37216</span> Software Evolution Based Activity Diagrams</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zine-Eddine%20Bouras">Zine-Eddine Bouras</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdelouaheb%20Talai"> Abdelouaheb Talai</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> During the last two decades, the software evolution community has intensively tackled the software merging issue whose main objective is to merge in a consistent way different versions of software in order to obtain a new version. Well-established approaches, mainly based on the dependence analysis techniques, have been used to bring suitable solutions. These approaches concern the source code or software architectures. However, these solutions are more expensive due to the complexity and size. In this paper, we overcome this problem by operating at a high level of abstraction. The objective of this paper is to investigate the software merging at the level of UML activity diagrams, which is a new interesting issue. Its purpose is to merge activity diagrams instead of source code. The proposed approach, based on dependence analysis techniques, is illustrated through an appropriate case study. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=activity%20diagram" title="activity diagram">activity diagram</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=activity%20diagram%20slicing" title=" activity diagram slicing"> activity diagram slicing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dependency%20analysis" title=" dependency analysis"> dependency analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=software%20merging" title=" software merging"> software merging</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/42420/software-evolution-based-activity-diagrams" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/42420.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">327</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">37215</span> A Near-Optimal Domain Independent Approach for Detecting Approximate Duplicates</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdelaziz%20Fellah">Abdelaziz Fellah</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Allaoua%20Maamir"> Allaoua Maamir</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> We propose a domain-independent merging-cluster filter approach complemented with a set of algorithms for identifying approximate duplicate entities efficiently and accurately within a single and across multiple data sources. The near-optimal merging-cluster filter (MCF) approach is based on the Monge-Elkan well-tuned algorithm and extended with an affine variant of the Smith-Waterman similarity measure. Then we present constant, variable, and function threshold algorithms that work conceptually in a divide-merge filtering fashion for detecting near duplicates as hierarchical clusters along with their corresponding representatives. The algorithms take recursive refinement approaches in the spirit of filtering, merging, and updating, cluster representatives to detect approximate duplicates at each level of the cluster tree. Experiments show a high effectiveness and accuracy of the MCF approach in detecting approximate duplicates by outperforming the seminal Monge-Elkan’s algorithm on several real-world benchmarks and generated datasets. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=data%20mining" title="data mining">data mining</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=data%20cleaning" title=" data cleaning"> data cleaning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=approximate%20duplicates" title=" approximate duplicates"> approximate duplicates</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=near-duplicates%20detection" title=" near-duplicates detection"> near-duplicates detection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=data%20mining%20applications%20and%20discovery" title=" data mining applications and discovery"> data mining applications and discovery</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/64998/a-near-optimal-domain-independent-approach-for-detecting-approximate-duplicates" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/64998.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">387</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">37214</span> A Design for Application of Mobile Agent Technology to MicroService Architecture</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Masayuki%20Higashino">Masayuki Higashino</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Toshiya%20Kawato"> Toshiya Kawato</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Takao%20Kawamura"> Takao Kawamura</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> A monolithic service is based on the N-tier architecture in many cases. In order to divide a monolithic service into microservices, it is necessary to redefine a model as a new microservice by extracting and merging existing models across layers. This paper proposes a design and concept to ease the migration of a monolithic service to microservices using the mobile agent technology. Our proposed approach, mobile agents-based design and concept, enables to ease dividing and merging services. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mobile%20agent" title="mobile agent">mobile agent</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=microservice" title=" microservice"> microservice</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=web%20service" title=" web service"> web service</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=distributed%20system" title=" distributed system"> distributed system</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/87238/a-design-for-application-of-mobile-agent-technology-to-microservice-architecture" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/87238.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">164</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">37213</span> Formation of Microcapsules in Microchannel through Droplet Merging</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Md.%20Danish%20Eqbal">Md. Due to its biocompatibility, non-toxicity and biodegradability, alginate based microparticles have numerous applications in drug delivery, tissue engineering, organ repair and transplantation, etc. The production of uniform monodispersed microparticles was a challenge for the past few decades. However, emergence of microfluidics has provided controlled methods for the generation of the uniform monodispersed microparticles. In this work, we present a successful method for the generation of both microparticles and microcapsules (single and double core) using merging approach of two droplets, completely inside the microfluidic device. We have fabricated hybrid glass- PDMS (polydimethylsiloxane) based microfluidic device which has coflow geometry as well as the T junction channel. Coflow is used to generate the single as well as double oil-alginate emulsion in oil and T junction helps to form the calcium chloride droplets in oil. The basic idea is to match the frequency of the alginate droplets and calcium chloride droplets perfectly for controlled generation. Using the merging of droplets technique, we have successfully generated the microparticles and the microcapsules having single core as well as double and multiple cores. The cores in the microcapsules are very stable, well separated from each other and very intact as seen through cross-sectional confocal images. The size and the number of the cores along with the thickness of the shell can be easily controlled by controlling the flowrate of the liquids. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=double-core" title="double-core">double-core</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=droplets" title=" droplets"> droplets</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=microcapsules" title=" microcapsules"> microcapsules</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=microparticles" title=" microparticles"> microparticles</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/62027/formation-of-microcapsules-in-microchannel-through-droplet-merging" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/62027.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">254</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">37212</span> Evolution and Merging of Double-Diffusive Layers in a Vertically Stable Compositional Field</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ila%20Thakur">Ila Thakur</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Atul%20Srivastava"> Atul Srivastava</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shyamprasad%20Karagadde"> Shyamprasad Karagadde</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The phenomenon of double-diffusive convection is driven by density gradients created by two different components (e.g., temperature and concentration) having different molecular diffusivities. The evolution of horizontal double-diffusive layers (DDLs) is one of the outcomes of double-diffusive convection occurring in a laterally/vertically cooled rectangular cavity having a pre-existing vertically stable composition field. The present work mainly focuses on different characteristics of the formation and merging of double-diffusive layers by imposing lateral/vertical thermal gradients in a vertically stable compositional field. A CFD-based twodimensional fluent model has been developed for the investigation of the aforesaid phenomena. The configuration containing vertical thermal gradients shows the evolution and merging of DDLs, where, elements from the same horizontal plane move vertically and mix with surroundings, creating a horizontal layer. In the configuration of lateral thermal gradients, a specially oriented convective roll was found inside each DDL and each roll was driven by the competing density change due to the already existing composition field and imposed thermal field. When the thermal boundary layer near the vertical wall penetrates the salinity interface, it can disrupt the compositional interface and can lead to layer merging. Different analytical scales were quantified and compared for both configurations. Various combinations of solutal and thermal Rayleigh numbers were investigated to get three different regimes, namely; stagnant regime, layered regime and unicellular regime. For a particular solutal Rayleigh number, a layered structure can originate only for a range of thermal Rayleigh numbers. Lower thermal Rayleigh numbers correspond to a diffusion-dominated stagnant regime. Very high thermal Rayleigh corresponds to a unicellular regime with high convective mixing. Different plots identifying these three regimes, number, thickness and time of existence of DDLs have been studied and plotted. For a given solutal Rayleigh number, an increase in thermal Rayleigh number increases the width but decreases both the number and time of existence of DDLs in the fluid domain. Sudden peaks in the velocity and heat transfer coefficient have also been observed and discussed at the time of merging. The present study is expected to be useful in correlating the double-diffusive convection in many large-scale applications including oceanography, metallurgy, geology, etc. The model has also been developed for three-dimensional geometry, but the results were quite similar to that of 2-D simulations. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=double%20diffusive%20layers" title="double diffusive layers">double diffusive layers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=natural%20convection" title=" natural convection"> natural convection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rayleigh%20number" title=" Rayleigh number"> Rayleigh number</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=thermal%20gradients" title=" thermal gradients"> thermal gradients</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=compositional%20gradients" title=" compositional gradients"> compositional gradients</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/151589/evolution-and-merging-of-double-diffusive-layers-in-a-vertically-stable-compositional-field" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/151589.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">84</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">37211</span> A Fast Community Detection Algorithm</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chung-Yuan%20Huang">Chung-Yuan Huang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yu-Hsiang%20Fu"> Yu-Hsiang Fu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chuen-Tsai%20Sun"> Chuen-Tsai Sun</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Community detection represents an important data-mining tool for analyzing and understanding real-world complex network structures and functions. We believe that at least four criteria determine the appropriateness of a community detection algorithm: (a) it produces useable normalized mutual information (NMI) and modularity results for social networks, (b) it overcomes resolution limitation problems associated with synthetic networks, (c) it produces good NMI results and performance efficiency for Lancichinetti-Fortunato-Radicchi (LFR) benchmark networks, and (d) it produces good modularity and performance efficiency for large-scale real-world complex networks. To our knowledge, no existing community detection algorithm meets all four criteria. In this paper, we describe a simple hierarchical arc-merging (HAM) algorithm that uses network topologies and rule-based arc-merging strategies to identify community structures that satisfy the criteria. We used five well-studied social network datasets and eight sets of LFR benchmark networks to validate the ground-truth community correctness of HAM, eight large-scale real-world complex networks to measure its performance efficiency, and two synthetic networks to determine its susceptibility to resolution limitation problems. Our results indicate that the proposed HAM algorithm is capable of providing satisfactory performance efficiency and that HAM-identified communities were close to ground-truth communities in social and LFR benchmark networks while overcoming resolution limitation problems. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=complex%20network" title="complex network">complex network</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=social%20network" title=" social network"> social network</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=community%20detection" title=" community detection"> community detection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=network%20hierarchy" title=" network hierarchy"> network hierarchy</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/89537/a-fast-community-detection-algorithm" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/89537.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">227</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">37210</span> Value of Mergers</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Reza%20Yaghoubi">Reza Yaghoubi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Stuart%20Locke"> Stuart Locke</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jenny%20Gibb"> Jenny Gibb</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This study investigates sources of value in mergers and acquisitions. While much emphasis is put on operating synergies from acquisitions the evidence provided in this study shows that the difference between the WACCs of the combined firm and the merging firms may have a significant role on the value effect of mergers. These findings suggest that changes in the capital structure of the combined firm, compared to capital structures of the acquirer and the target, play a key role in determining the value of an acquisition. Moreover, findings of this study suggest that reducing the cost of capital of the combined firm, compared to the merging firms, is value creating even in the absence of operating synergies. Furthermore, this study shows that the component of value associated with the difference between the WACCs of the combined firm and the acquirer is mainly determined by leverage of the acquiring firm and the method of payment. While cash payment is value creating, high leverage of the acquirer prior to an acquisition can destroy value by raising the cost of capital of the firm. This is especially important to managers when they are planning an acquisition. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=acquisitions" title="acquisitions">acquisitions</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mergers" title=" mergers"> mergers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=synergy" title=" synergy"> synergy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=value" title=" value"> value</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=WACC" title=" WACC"> WACC</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/30712/value-of-mergers" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/30712.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">269</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">37209</span> A Geographic Information System Mapping Method for Creating Improved Satellite Solar Radiation Dataset Over Qatar</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sachin%20Jain">Sachin Jain</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Daniel%20Perez-Astudillo"> Daniel Perez-Astudillo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dunia%20A.%20Bachour"> Dunia A. Hence, high-quality spatial solar radiation data is of the uttermost requirement for any planning and commissioning of solar technology. Generally, two types of solar radiation data are available: satellite data and ground observations. Satellite solar radiation data is developed by the physical and statistical model. Ground data is collected by solar radiation measurement stations. The ground data is of high quality. However, they are limited to distributed point locations with the high cost of installation and maintenance for the ground stations. On the other hand, satellite solar radiation data is continuous and available throughout geographical locations, but they are relatively less accurate than ground data. To utilize the advantage of both data, a product has been developed here which provides spatial continuity and higher accuracy than any of the data alone. The popular satellite databases: National Solar radiation Data Base, NSRDB (PSM V3 model, spatial resolution: 4 km) is chosen here for merging with ground-measured solar radiation measurement in Qatar. The spatial distribution of ground solar radiation measurement stations is comprehensive in Qatar, with a network of 13 ground stations. The monthly average of the daily total Global Horizontal Irradiation (GHI) component from ground and satellite data is used for error analysis. The normalized root means square error (NRMSE) values of 3.31%, 6.53%, and 6.63% for October, November, and December 2019 were observed respectively when comparing in-situ and NSRDB data. The method is based on the Empirical Bayesian Kriging Regression Prediction model available in ArcGIS, ESRI. The workflow of the algorithm is based on the combination of regression and kriging methods. A regression model (OLS, ordinary least square) is fitted between the ground and NSBRD data points. A semi-variogram is fitted into the experimental semi-variogram obtained from the residuals. The kriging residuals obtained after fitting the semi-variogram model were added to NSRBD data predicted values obtained from the regression model to obtain the final predicted values. The NRMSE values obtained after merging are respectively 1.84%, 1.28%, and 1.81% for October, November, and December 2019. One more explanatory variable, that is the ground elevation, has been incorporated in the regression and kriging methods to reduce the error and to provide higher spatial resolution (30 m). The final GHI maps have been created after merging, and NRMSE values of 1.24%, 1.28%, and 1.28% have been observed for October, November, and December 2019, respectively. The proposed merging method has proven as a highly accurate method. An additional method is also proposed here to generate calibrated maps by using regression and kriging model and further to use the calibrated model to generate solar radiation maps from the explanatory variable only when not enough historical ground data is available for long-term analysis. The NRMSE values obtained after the comparison of the calibrated maps with ground data are 5.60% and 5.31% for November and December 2019 month respectively. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=global%20horizontal%20irradiation" title="global horizontal irradiation">global horizontal irradiation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=GIS" title=" GIS"> GIS</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=empirical%20bayesian%20kriging%20regression%20prediction" title=" empirical bayesian kriging regression prediction"> empirical bayesian kriging regression prediction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=NSRDB" title=" NSRDB"> NSRDB</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/164069/a-geographic-information-system-mapping-method-for-creating-improved-satellite-solar-radiation-dataset-over-qatar" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/164069.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">89</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">37208</span> Hybrid Concrete Construction (HCC) for Sustainable Infrastructure Development in Nigeria</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Bello%20Ibrahim">Muhammad Bello Ibrahim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=M.%20Auwal%20Zakari"> M. The proposed algorithm uses a genetic algorithm to generate polygons with few vertices. A new merge algorithm is presented which converts any two polygons into a simple polygon. This algorithm at first changes two polygons into a polygonal chain and then the polygonal chain is converted into a simple polygon. The process of converting a polygonal chain into a simple polygon is based on the removal of intersecting edges. The merge algorithm has the time complexity of O ((r+s) *l) where r and s are the size of merging polygons and l shows the number of intersecting edges removed from the polygonal chain. As two successful models in explaining behaviors of particles, they are incompatible since they work at different masses and scales of energy, with the evidence that regards the description of black holes and universe formation. It is so considering previous efforts in merging the two theories, including the likes of the String Theory, Quantum Gravity models, and others. In a bid to prove an actionable experiment, the paper&rsquo;s approach starts with the derivations of the existing theories at present. It goes on to test the derivations by applying the same initial assumptions, coupled with several deviations. The resulting equations get similar results to those of classical Newton model, quantum mechanics, and general relativity as long as conditions are normal. However, outcomes are different when conditions are extreme, specifically with no breakdowns even for less than Schwarzschild radius, or at Planck length cases. Even so, it proves the possibilities of integrating the two theories. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=general%20relativity%20theory" title="general relativity theory">general relativity theory</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=particles" title=" particles"> particles</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=photons" title=" photons"> photons</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Quantum%20Gravity%20Model" title=" Quantum Gravity Model"> Quantum Gravity Model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gravitational%20frequency%20shift" title=" gravitational frequency shift"> gravitational frequency shift</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/59744/gravitational-frequency-shifts-for-photons-and-particles" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/59744.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">359</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">37203</span> Underwater Image Enhancement and Reconstruction Using CNN and the MultiUNet Model</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Snehal%20G.%20Teli">Snehal G. It is the only genus with a pantropical distribution. Economically, it is used in several Asian countries as traditional medicine and spice. In the past Zanthoxylum was divided into two genera, the temperate Zanthoxylum sensu strictu (s.s.) and the (sub)tropical Fagara, due to the large differences in flower morphology: heterochlamydeous in Fagara and homochlamydeous in Zanthoxylum s.s.. This genus is much under studied and previous phylogenetic studies using Sanger sequencing did not resolve the relationships sufficiently. In this study, we use Hybrid Capture with a specially designed bait set for Zanthoxylum to sequence 347 putatively single-copy genes. The taxon sampling has been largely improved as compared to previous studies and the preliminary results will be based on 371 specimens representing 133 species from all continents and major island groups. Our preliminary results reveal similar tree topology as the previous studies while providing more details to the backbone of the phylogeny. The phylogenetic tree consists of four main clades: A) African/Malagasy clade, B) Z. asiaticum clade - a clade consisting widespread species occurring in (sub)tropical Asia and Africa as well as Madagascar, C) Asian/Pacific clade and D) American clade, which also includes the temperate Asian species. The merging of Fagara and Zanthoxylum is supported by our results and the homochlamydeous flowers of Zanthoxylum s.s. are likely derived from heterochlamydeous flowers. Several of the morphologically defined sections within Zanthoxylum are not monophyletic. The study dissemination will (1) introduce the framework of this project; (2) present preliminary results and (3) the ongoing progress of the study. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zanthoxylum" title="Zanthoxylum">Zanthoxylum</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=phylogenomic" title=" phylogenomic"> phylogenomic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hybrid%20capture" title=" hybrid capture"> hybrid capture</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pantropical" title=" pantropical"> pantropical</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/177085/hybrid-capture-resolves-the-phylogeny-of-the-pantropically-distributed-zanthoxylum-rutaceae-and-reveals-an-old-world-origin" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/177085.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">72</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">37201</span> Mentorship and Feelings of Identify and Self-Efficacy in Women Returning to the Workforce after an Extended Child-Rearing Leave</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jacquelyn%20Irene%20%20Eidson">Jacquelyn Irene Eidson</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Women who leave the workforce due to motherhood and wish to return are a valuable, untapped resource for organizations. Levinson’s theory of adult development defines life as a sequence of transitions requiring difficult decisions that prompt humans to question their identity and their self-efficacy. The experience of being a working mother and the experience of workplace mentorship have received extensive research attention. Merging the two experiences and focusing on feelings of identity and self-efficacy provides a unique and focused opportunity for learning. Through one-on-one interviews and focus group discussion with working mothers that had previously left the workforce for an extended leave due to child-rearing, a meaningful description of their experiences will be obtained. Data is currently being collected via a collaboration with state banking associations in the United States. Feeling connected and belonging at school have been studied a lot, especially in the period up to college. The need to feel connected becomes even more vital when people choose to study abroad. The number of published research in the field has increased recently, creating sufficient studies for a systematic literature review. The current study was conducted to find out existing trends and central themes in the field regarding international student connectedness. Using PRISMA 2020 and Shariff et al.’s work as the guidelines, I conducted a systematic literature review of studies regarding international student connectedness in higher education. Three steps of inclusion/exclusion criteria were used to determine the final studies to be included. The results show an increasing trend in the field as the number of related studies drastically rose after 2017. the results showed that there are three phases in the research regarding the connectedness of international students: a rejection period, a sudden increase of interest in the topic, and merging as an essential part of the mental well-being of international students. There is also a change in the themes regarding the topic, as there is a rise in the number of research published regarding international students’ mental health in recent years, connectedness being a sub-topic. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=international%20students" title="international students">international students</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=connectedness" title=" connectedness"> connectedness</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mental%20well-being%20of%20international%20students" title=" mental well-being of international students"> mental well-being of international students</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=trends" title=" trends"> trends</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=higher%20education" title=" higher education"> higher education</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/164638/trends-in-research-regarding-international-student-connectedness-a-systematic-review" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/164638.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">119</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">37198</span> A Fuzzy Approach to Liver Tumor Segmentation with Zernike Moments </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abder-Rahman%20Ali">Abder-Rahman Ali</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Antoine%20Vacavant"> Antoine Vacavant</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Manuel%20Grand-Brochier"> Manuel Grand-Brochier</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ad%C3%A9la%C3%AFde%20Albouy-Kissi"> Adélaïde Albouy-Kissi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jean-Yves%20Boire"> Jean-Yves Boire</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this paper, we present a new segmentation approach for liver lesions in regions of interest within MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging). This approach, based on a two-cluster Fuzzy C-Means methodology, considers the parameter variable compactness to handle uncertainty. Fine boundaries are detected by a local recursive merging of ambiguous pixels with a sequential forward floating selection with Zernike moments. The method has been tested on both synthetic and real images. When applied on synthetic images, the proposed approach provides good performance, segmentations obtained are accurate, their shape is consistent with the ground truth, and the extracted information is reliable. The results obtained on MR images confirm such observations. Our approach allows, even for difficult cases of MR images, to extract a segmentation with good performance in terms of accuracy and shape, which implies that the geometry of the tumor is preserved for further clinical activities (such as automatic extraction of pharmaco-kinetics properties, lesion characterization, etc). <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=defuzzification" title="defuzzification">defuzzification</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=floating%20search" title=" floating search"> floating search</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fuzzy%20clustering" title=" fuzzy clustering"> fuzzy clustering</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zernike%20moments" title=" Zernike moments "> Zernike moments </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/32509/a-fuzzy-approach-to-liver-tumor-segmentation-with-zernike-moments" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/32509.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">452</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">37197</span> From the “Movement Language” to Communication Language</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mahmudjon%20Kuchkarov">Mahmudjon Kuchkarov</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marufjon%20Kuchkarov"> Marufjon Kuchkarov</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The origin of ‘Human Language’ is still a secret and the most interesting subject of historical linguistics. The core element is the nature of labeling or coding the things or processes with symbols and sounds. In this paper, we investigate human’s involuntary Paired Sounds and Shape Production (PSSP) and its contribution to the development of early human communication. Aimed at twenty-six volunteers who provided many physical movements with various difficulties, the research team investigated the natural, repeatable, and paired sounds and shape productions during human activities. The paper claims the involvement of Paired Sounds and Shape Production (PSSP) in the phonetic origin of some modern words and the existence of similarities between elements of PSSP with characters of the classic Latin alphabet. The results may be used not only as a supporting idea for existing theories but to create a closer look at some fundamental nature of the origin of the languages as well. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=body%20shape" title="body shape">body shape</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=body%20language" title=" body language"> body language</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=coding" title=" coding"> coding</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Latin%20alphabet" title=" Latin alphabet"> Latin alphabet</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=merging%20method" title=" merging method"> merging method</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=movement%20language" title=" movement language"> movement language</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=movement%20sound" title=" movement sound"> movement sound</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=natural%20sound" title=" natural sound"> natural sound</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=origin%20of%20language" title=" origin of language"> origin of language</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pairing" title=" pairing"> pairing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=phonetics" title=" phonetics"> phonetics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sound%20and%20shape%20production" title=" sound and shape production"> sound and shape production</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=word%20origin" title=" word origin"> word origin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=word%20semantic" title=" word semantic"> word semantic</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/160314/from-the-movement-language-to-communication-language" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/160314.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">250</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">37196</span> Automatic MC/DC Test Data Generation from Software Module Description</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sekou%20Kangoye">Sekou Kangoye</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alexis%20Todoskoff"> Alexis Todoskoff</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mihaela%20Barreau"> Mihaela Barreau</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Modified Condition/Decision Coverage (MC/DC) is a structural coverage criterion that is highly recommended or required for safety-critical software coverage. However, an important amount of time is needed to meet those requirements. In this paper we propose to automate MC/DC test data generation. Thus, we present an approach to automatically generate MC/DC test data, from software module description written over a dedicated language. This study employs spectrophotometric analysis to explore post-bioprinting cell growth density variation within hybrid hydrogel biomaterial scaffolds. Three hydrogel biomaterials—Alginic acid sodium salt (ALGINATE), Nanofibrillated Cellulose (NFC) – TEMPO, and CarboxyMethyl Cellulose (CMC)—are chosen for their scaffolding capabilities. Bioink development and analysis of their impact on cell proliferation and morphology are conducted. Chlorella microalgae cell growth within hydrogel compositions is probed using absorbance measurements, with additional assessment of shear thinning properties. Notably, NFC exhibits reduced shear thinning compared to CMC. Results reveal that while mono-hydrogel substrates with pronounced adhesion inhibit Chlorella cell proliferation, Alginate fosters increased cell concentration alongside a slight viscosity rise. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=green%20bioprinting" title="green bioprinting">green bioprinting</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=3d%20bioprinting" title=" 3d bioprinting"> 3d bioprinting</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=microalgae%20cell" title=" microalgae cell"> microalgae cell</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hybrid%20hydrogel%20scaffolds" title=" hybrid hydrogel scaffolds"> hybrid hydrogel scaffolds</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spectrophotometric%20analysis" title=" spectrophotometric analysis"> spectrophotometric analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bioink%20development" title=" bioink development"> bioink development</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=shear%20thinning%20properties" title=" shear thinning properties"> shear thinning properties</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/188298/spectrophotometric-evaluation-of-custom-microalgae-based-bioink-formulations-for-optimized-green-bioprinting" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/188298.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">29</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">37194</span> Audio-Visual Recognition Based on Effective Model and Distillation</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Heng%20Yang">Heng Yang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tao%20Luo"> Tao Luo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yakun%20Zhang"> Yakun Zhang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kai%20Wang"> Kai Wang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wei%20Qin"> Wei Qin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Liang%20Xie"> Liang Xie</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ye%20Yan"> Ye Yan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Erwei%20Yin"> Erwei Yin</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Recent years have seen that audio-visual recognition has shown great potential in a strong noise environment. The existing method of audio-visual recognition has explored methods with ResNet and feature fusion. However, on the one hand, ResNet always occupies a large amount of memory resources, restricting the application in engineering. On the other hand, the feature merging also brings some interferences in a high noise environment. In order to solve the problems, we proposed an effective framework with bidirectional distillation. At first, in consideration of the good performance in extracting of features, we chose the light model, Efficientnet as our extractor of spatial features. Secondly, self-distillation was applied to learn more information from raw data. Finally, we proposed a bidirectional distillation in decision-level fusion. In more detail, our experimental results are based on a multi-model dataset from 24 volunteers. Eventually, the lipreading accuracy of our framework was increased by 2.3% compared with existing systems, and our framework made progress in audio-visual fusion in a high noise environment compared with the system of audio recognition without visual. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=lipreading" title="lipreading">lipreading</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=audio-visual" title=" audio-visual"> audio-visual</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Efficientnet" title=" Efficientnet"> Efficientnet</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=distillation" title=" distillation"> distillation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/146625/audio-visual-recognition-based-on-effective-model-and-distillation" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/146625.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">134</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">37193</span> Investigating the Use of Advanced Manufacturing Technologies in the Assembly Type Manufacturing Companies in Trinidad and Tobago</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nadine%20Sangster">Nadine Sangster</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Akil%20James"> Akil James</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rondell%20Duke"> Rondell Duke</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Aaron%20Ameerali"> Aaron Ameerali</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Terrence%20Lalla"> Terrence Lalla</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The market place of the 21st century is evolving into one of merging national markets, fragmented consumer markets, and rapidly changing product technologies. The use of new technologies has become vital to the manufacturing industry for their survival and sustainability. This work focused on the assembly type industry in a small developing country and aimed at identifying the use of advanced manufacturing technologies and their impact on this sector of the manufacturing industry. It was found that some technologies were being used and that they had improved the effectiveness of those companies but there was still quite a bit of room for improvements. Some of the recommendations included benchmarking against international standards, the adoption of a “made in TT” campaign and the effective utilisation of the technologies to improve manufacturing effectiveness and thus improve competitive advantages and strategies. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a
