It had not only the subterranean dungeon and pit common to all Eastern prisons, but separate "cabins" or cells (the Hebrew word does not occur elsewhere) for the confinement of individual prisoners (<a href="/jeremiah/37-16.htm" title="When Jeremiah was entered into the dungeon, and into the cabins, and Jeremiah had remained there many days;">Jeremiah 37:16</a>).
