Inspired by the paintings of Edward Hopper, <em>Voyeur </em>was jointly commissioned by Portland Ovations and the Edward Hopper House Art Center in Nyack, New York. Their dance will be complemented by an installation that will be on view fifteen minutes before each performance. The two-video installation takes David Lynch’s <em>Blue Velvet</em> and Volker Schlöndorff’s <em>The Tin Drum</em> as its starting point, but Mr. Tomaszewski has removed all the characters from both films, leaving only the original films’ settings, props, and sound effects to carry his message to the viewer. Both installations will be on view through December 2. The exhibition, curated by David Howe, challenges the viewer to “[seek] the terrain that lies between open and closed, fixed and flexible” through its mix of genres and staging of the artworks.
