Ein Klappentext, der Zweifel am Jedi-Orden verspricht?! Es braucht nicht viel, um mich als eingefleischten Star-Wars-Fan von der Franchise zu überzeugen. Bekomme ich aber die Möglichkeit, mich in der dunklen Seite der Macht zu suhlen, die mich seit Kindheitstagen fasziniert, inhaliere ich die Geschichten wie die Luft nach einem 10-Kilometer-Lauf (okay, ich gebe es zu, bei mir reichen da auch schon 2000 Meter, aber das tut jetzt hier nichts zur Sache!).</p><p>Bekommen wir also nach der grandiosen Darth Bane-Trilogie und der tragischen Figur des Darth Vaders eine weitere tolle Romanfigur, die die Lehren der Jedi ablehnt und sich der dunklen Seite der Macht verschreibt? Finden wir es heraus.</p><h3>Alte Bekannte</h3><p>Geben wir dem Roman erstmal eine zeitliche Einordnung. Die Handlung beginnt in den Zeiten der Klonkriege, erstreckt sich über die Order 66 und die darauffolgende Herrschaft des Imperiums unter Darth Sidious.</p><script type='text/javascript'>OA_show(49);</script><p>Seit ihrer Kindheit ist Iskat Askaris bekannt für ihr stürmisches Temperament. Eine Eigenschaft, die im Tempel der Jedi nicht gerne gesehen wird (Anakin Skywalker alias Darth Vader kann ein Liedchen davon singen). Hinzu kommt, dass Iskat einer Spezies angehört, die keiner zu kennen scheint. Auch die Datenbanken der Jedi-Bibliothek geben keinen Hinweis darauf, woher Iskat stammt. Fragen nach ihrer Vergangenheit prallen an den Jedi-Meistern ab wie Lasergeschosse am Schild eines Droidekas.</p><p>Nach einem tragischen Unfall bei der Ausübung der Macht in Iskats Kindheit wird sie von den meisten anderen Jedi-Padawan gemieden.</p><p>Dieses Paket des Schicksals macht aus Iskat eine Außenseiterin im Tempel der Jedi.</p><p>Warme Worte sind ein seltenes Gut für die junge Jedi. Mace Windu und Meister Yoda strafen Iskat meist mit Maßregelungen und predigen das Mantra der Jedi. In ihrer Weisheit haben sie früh erkannt – ohne es Iskat gegenüber laut auszusprechen – dass die Emotionen und Gedanken, die in ihr brodeln, ein Nährboden für die dunkle Seite der Macht sind. Sie verschreiben der angehenden Beschützerin der Republik Stunden langes Meditieren und Verinnerlichen des Jedi-Kodexes. Sie soll ihre Emotionen wegsperren, um Platz zu schaffen für die Gelassenheit und Treue eines vorbildlichen Jedi-Ritters. Iskat versucht alles, um sich die Anerkennung des Hohen Rates zu verdienen, aber spätestens mit Ausbruch der Klonkriege und ihrer ersten Schlachtenerfahrung auf Geonosis – während Anakin, Obi-Wan und Padme versuchen, der Gefangenschaft durch Count Doku zu entkommen und die Klonkrieger zum ersten Mal auf den Plan gerufen werden – zeigt sich, dass unsere Heldin aus anderem Holz geschnitzt ist als die Jedi, die sie umgeben.</p><p>Auf alt bekannte Gefährten zu treffen, erweitert durch Iskats Sicht der Dinge, erfreut das Herz eines jeden Star-Wars-Fans. Es sei jedoch erwähnt, dass die Szenerien um Yoda, Mace Windu, Obi-Wan und Anakin eher rudimentär gestaltet sind. Dennoch ein toller Leckerbissen für alle Leser.</p><h3>Schlachtenfieber</h3><p>Iskat Akaris liebt das Töten. So, jetzt ist die Katze aus dem Sack. Aber schauen wir uns das mal näher an. Iskat merkt schnell, dass ihr ganzes Sein zu erblühen beginnt, wenn sie sich mit ihrem Lichtschwert kämpfend in einer Schlacht befindet. Hinzu kommt, dass sie intuitiv in solchen Stresssituationen die aus ihrer Sicht richtigen Entscheidungen zu treffen vermag. Endlich kennt Iskat ihre Berufung als Jedi. Sie will auf Missionen entsendet werden, um ihre Talente im Kampf gegen die Separatisten zu stählen. Der Rat der Jedi sieht in Iskats impulsiven Handeln und dem Drang nach Aktionismus jedoch eine Gefahr und hält sie an der kurzen Leine. Da ist es nicht verwunderlich, dass das Projekt Iskat Akaris ziemlich nach hinten losgeht. Anstatt dass Iskat ihren Ruhepol in der Macht findet, gedeihen in ihr Verzweiflung und Zorn, bis sie zum Bersten voll davon ist. Als dann die Order 66 in Kraft tritt und Kanzler Palpatine alias Darth Sidious mithilfe der Klonkrieger die meisten Jedi vernichtet, sieht Iskat ihre Chance gekommen, um endlich ihr volles Potential auszuschöpfen. Sie schließt sich der Inquisition an und jagt von nun an unter dem Befehl von Vader die letzten in der Galaxis verstreuten Jedi-Ritter. Endlich, so scheint es, ist Iskat den Fesseln der Jedis entkommen. Doch mit der Zeit reift in ihr der Gedanke heran, dass sie die verhassten Fesseln der Jedi nur gegen ein neues Paar eingetauscht haben könnte.</p><h3>Mit dieser Spannung gewinnt man kein „Podrennen“</h3><p>Die Hauptfigur besitzt alles, um als interessanter und fesselnder Charakter daherzukommen. Wäre sie nur bloß in einen spannenden Handlungsstrang eingebettet. Hier verdreht selbst der nicht aus der Ruhe zu bringende Meister Yoda seine Augen.</p><p>Der Roman folgt immer der gleichen und widerkehrenden Struktur. Iskat wird zusammen mit anderen Jedis auf eine Mission ausgesendet. Der Auftrag verläuft nicht ganz nach Plan, unsere Heldin wird gerügt und an der kurzen Leine gehalten. Ist ein wenig Zeit vergangen, wird Iskat erneut auf eine Mission geschickt und das Prozedere beginnt von Neuem. Selbst als Iskat die Seiten wechselt und sich der Inquisition anschließt, bleiben die Strukturen an unserer Hauptfigur kleben wie Früchte an Jar Jar Bings Zunge. Die Missionen sind leider kaum der Rede wert und bieten lediglich eine gelungene Kulisse. Der Leser giert suchend nach Spannung und merkt schnell, dass seine letzte Hoffnung im Schlussakt dieses Romans vergraben sein könnte. Leider enden die letzten Seiten zu abrupt, um die Hoffnung auf Dramatik mit Leben zu füllen.</p><p>Positiv hervorzuheben ist definitiv Iskats innere Zerrissenheit in Bezug auf die Lehren der Jedi. Der Autorin ist es hervorragend gelungen, die Kehrseite der Jedi-Ritter in den Vordergrund zu rücken. Ein Leben ohne Emotionen und Bindungen, wie es insbesondere in den Filmen als glorreich und erstrebenswert dargestellt wird, bekommt in diesem Roman deutliche Risse. Man versteht den Frust der Protagonistin und kann ihren Werdegang nachvollziehen. Schade ist, dass man im Laufe der Handlung ein Stück weit das Gefühl bekommt, dass Delilah S. Dawson vor dem ultimativ Bösen der dunklen Seite der Macht zurückschreckt. Als unsere Inquisitorin nämlich den Auftrag erhält, eine Jedi zu töten, wird ihr ausgerechnet diejenige vorgesetzt, die Iskat im Tempel der Jedi jahrelang subtil schikaniert hat. Dadurch lässt sich das Töten für die Leserschaft leichter verkraften, als wäre es rein aus purer Böshaftigkeit vollzogen worden. Iskat sollte wohl nicht allzu viele Sympathiepunkte bei den Lesern verlieren. Ich plädiere insoweit für mehr Mut bei der Skizzierung von Inkarnationen der dunklen Seite der Macht. Letzteres ist jedoch lediglich ein Tropfen auf den heißen Stein. Insgesamt macht Iskat Akraris eine wirklich gute Figur.</p><h2>Fazit:</h2><p>Leider verschenkt dieses Buch aufgrund der Gleichförmigkeit der Handlung eine Menge an Potential. Deswegen kann ich Star-Wars-Fans diesen Roman nicht als Pflichtlektüre empfehlen. Gleichwohl werden Liebhaber mit diesem Roman ihr Vergnügen haben.
