Durch die Kombination eines Gegenstromvergasers mit einer gezielt gestuften Verbrennung, erreichen wir dabei Wirkungsgrade von über 92%. Das spezielle Design erfordert keine zusätzliche Rauchgasreinigung, was deutliche Betriebskosteneinsparungen ermöglicht. Der PolyHeld zeichnet sich zudem durch eine ausgezeichnete Teillastfähigkeit von bis zu 25% aus. Das verwendete Pyrolyseverfahren, welches die Umwandlung von Biomasse unter Hitze und Luftabschluss bezeichnet, basiert auf einem automatisierten Batchverfahren. Die während des Verkohlungsprozesses entstehenden Abgase und Schadstoffe werden in einem geschlossenen Kreislauf thermisch wiederverwertet. Die überschüssige Energie aus dem Prozess kann entweder thermisch genutzt oder in Strom umgewandelt werden. Der gesamte Produktionsablauf (von der Rohstoffanlieferung bis zur Verarbeitung der Biokohle) ist weitgehend automatisiert und wird im Schichtbetrieb 24×7, durchgeführt. Mit einer Jahresproduktionsleistung von bis zu 60.000 t/a kann feste Biomasse unterschiedlichster Art durch Pyrolyse in ein formstabiles, leicht transportierbares und vor allem lagerfähiges Produkt umgewandelt werden. Dies erfolgt bei etwa 300°C unter Luftabschluss. Die dabei freigesetzte Energie, die nicht für den Prozess selbst benötigt wird, kann je nach Kundenwunsch zur Wasser- oder Dampferzeugung oder zur Erwärmung von Thermoöl genutzt werden. Torrefiziertes Material kann in vielen Bereichen zur Substitution von fossiler Kohle eingesetzt werden – beispielsweise in der Stahlindustrie oder als Ersatzbrennstoff für fossile Energieträger.
