He mainly studies ODS alloys, refractory metal, metal 3D printing, superalloys, friction and brake materials and the other advanced powder metallurgy materials. (University of Notre Dame, 1977) and Ph.D. (University of Wisconsin-Madison, 1981) degrees in Chemistry. He served 1981-83 at Bell Laboratories, Muray Hill, NJ as a Member of Technical Staff, after which he joined the faculty at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Since 2006, he has been the Arthur J. Schmitt Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Notre Dame. Prof. Bohn is the Founding Director of the Berthiaume Institute for Precision Health at Notre Dame, Founding Member of the Indiana Consortium for Analytical Science and Engineering, Director of the Center for Bioanalytic Metrology, an NSF Industry-University Cooperative Research Center, and Director of the Analytical Sciences & Engineering at Notre Dame faculty hiring initiative. Bohn’s research interests include: molecular approaches to, and uses of, nanotechnology, integrated nanofluidic and microfluidic chemical measurement strategies for personal monitoring, and correlated chemical imaging, especially of microbial communities. He has received a number of recognitions for his work, including most recently the Charles N. He got his Master&#39;s Degree in nuclear science from the National Tsing Hua University (Taiwan) in 1983. He obtained two Ph.D. degrees in Chemistry from National Tsing Hua University in 1990 and the University of Cambridge in 1992. He joined Materials Research Laboratories at Industrial Technology Research Institute as an Associate Researcher, Research Scientist, Senior Research Scientist, and Research Manager from 1983 to 1995. Then he became an Associate Professor at the Department of Chemistry of the National Taiwan University from 1995 to 1999. Then he was promoted to Professor in 1999. In July 2016, he became the Distinguished Professor.<br /> <br /> He got the Excellent Young Person Prize in 1989, the Excellent Inventor Award (Argentine Medal) in 1995, and the Excellent Young Chemist Award in 1998. He got the 9th Y. Z. Hsu scientific paper award due to his excellent energy-saving research in 2011. He received the Ministry of Science and Technology awards for distinguished research in 2013 and 2018. In 2015, he received the distinguished award for Novel and Synthesis by IUPAC and NMS. In 2017, he received the Chung-Shang Academic paper award. He got “Highly Cited Researchers” by Clarivate Analytics in 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021. He got Hou Chin-Tui Award in 2018 due to his excellent research on basic science. He received the 17th Y. Z. Hsu Chair Professor Award for contributing to excellent research on “Green Science & Technology” in 2019. He then got the 26th TECO award for his contribution to combining materials chemistry&#39;s academic and practical application in 2019. He received the Academic Award of the Ministry of Education and the Academic Achievement Award from the Chemical Society Located in Taipei in 2020. He obtained FutureTech Award from the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Journal of the Chinese Chemical Society Best Paper Award in 2021.<br /> <br /> His research is concerned with Materials Chemistry. He received Ph.D. degree in Physics (Theoretical physics, OSAKA University, Japan, 1997). He has been a Professor of graduate school, and also the Director of Materials Design Center, Research Institute, Kochi University of Technology, 1999 – Present (23 years). Major research concerns materials design, developments of film deposition and surface treatment apparatus with direct-current arc discharge, and device developments based on oxide semiconductors such as ZnO and In2O3. Many products together with patents thorough co-developed with industries including several national projects have been already commercial. In 2011, he won the prize by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan, for his work on highly transparent conductive electrodes, made from ZnO films, used in LCD TVs and solar cells.
