As part of this effort, renovation of the second ICU and the ER at Evangelsimos Hospital in Athens is underway through a partnership between<br/> SNF and Thanasis and Marina Martinos.<br/><br/><em><strong><span class="blueText">Support for ICUs and Testing</span></strong></em><br/>A more than $17.9 million grant from SNF will support the renovation of facilities in 15 hospitals around Greece to accommodate the addition of 155 Intensive Care Units and 19 High Dependency Beds, as well as professional training for ICU medical staff.</p> <p>SNF will also support a five-year training program for doctors and nurses working in ICUs. Following SNF’s five-year grant, the training program will be continued by the Greek state.</p> <p>SNF is also making a more than $4 million grant to significantly bolster Greek health services’ ability to test widely for COVID-19 and consequently implement data-based measures to contain the virus. The grant will provide two molecular testing systems and 240,000 units of reagent, aiming to significantly increase Greece’s daily testing capacity. One of these new systems will be placed at the Hellenic National Blood Transfusion Center (EKEA) in Athens, where the majority of current testing is taking place, and the other will go to the Blood Center at AHEPA Hospital in Thessaloniki</p> <p><strong class="blueTitle"><span class="blueText">RESEARCH AND DATA</span></strong><br/>Our ability to track the spread of the disease will be critical to how the coming months take shape. SNF is proud to support Johns Hopkins University with a $3 million grant in the immediate launch of a much-needed <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20200714231849/https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/testing" target="_blank">COVID-19 Testing Insights Initiative</a> to provide governments, businesses, and the public with comprehensive testing data paired with expert analysis and guidance. The <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20200714231849/https://hub.jhu.edu/2020/04/29/covid-19-testing-insights-initiative/" target="_blank">initiative</a> is the outcome of longtime collaboration between SNF and many areas of Johns Hopkins University, including the Berman Institute of Bioethics, and will provide efficient access to the information needed to make crucial decisions moving forward.<br/><br/>A <a href="/web/20200714231849/https://www.snf.org/en/newsroom/news/2020/04/rockefeller-university-covid19-research-receives-additional-3m-from-snf/" title="Rockefeller University COVID19 Research Receives Additional 3M from SNF">$3 million SNF grant to The Rockefeller University</a>, expanding on a longstanding partnership, bolsters round-the-clock research related to COVID-19 and the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes it underway in 18 Rockefeller labs.</p> <p>A grant to the <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20200714231849/https://www.sjdhospitalbarcelona.org/en" target="_blank">Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona Children’s Hospita</a>l will help create a biobank open to all researchers with the purpose of understanding the impact and behavior (including transmission
