A couple years after this trend has sort of died down, school shooting have started to pop up, Coincidence? There is some evidence that shows there might be a connection and some that shows that there isn’t. One school massacre that really started this trend the all known too well Columbine Highschool Massacre. Where two seniors at the school Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris shot multiple students and a faculty member. Even in recent instances there have been multiple school shootings like one a couple years ago, the sandy hook shooting where a 20 year old male named Adam Lanza shot and killed 20 individuals including his own mother.<br /> What have lawmakers done about these horrendous acts? Well honestly they can’t take away our guns because that’s against the constitution but they really have tried limiting the gun laws, especially in California. Whether suicide attempters succeed or fail, all depends on how easy it is for them to get the resources they want to use for this task, especially firearms. Deborah Azrael, a research associate at Harvard’s Research Center, found that when guns were predominant in a state, suicide rates were higher. The inverse of this statement was also correct, in states where guns were not prevalent, suicide rates were lower. Between the years of 1999 and 2013, there were 464,003 gun deaths in the U.S, about 58% of them were suicides 37% were homicides. (ProCon.org) Gun violence and the consequences of that violence, have become a real and dangerous problem in the U.S , why else would the CDC list the United States as having the highest rate of gun violence out of all developed countries today?
