In the context of 1 Peter, the apostle Peter is addressing wives, encouraging them to exhibit conduct that can be observed by their husbands. This aligns with the broader biblical principle that faith should be demonstrated through actions, as seen in James 2:18, which states, "Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds." The emphasis on seeing suggests that the transformation brought about by faith in Christ should be evident to others, serving as a testimony to the power of the Gospel.
your pure
Purity in this context refers to moral and spiritual integrity. In the Greco-Roman world, where Peter's audience lived, moral standards were often different from those taught by Christ. Purity here is not just about sexual purity but encompasses a broader sense of holiness and righteousness. This aligns with the call to holiness found in 1 Peter 1:15-16, "But just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: 'Be holy, because I am holy.'" The call to purity is a call to reflect God's character in one's life.
and reverent demeanor
Reverence involves a deep respect and honor, particularly towards God. In the cultural context of the early church, reverence was a counter-cultural stance, as many in the Roman Empire worshipped multiple gods and engaged in practices contrary to Christian teachings. A reverent demeanor indicates a life lived in awe of God, prioritizing His commands and desires above societal norms. This is echoed in Proverbs 9:10, "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding." Reverence is foundational to wisdom and understanding in the Christian life, and it manifests in how believers conduct themselves in all relationships, including marriage.
Persons / Places / Events
1. Peter
The apostle Peter, one of Jesus' closest disciples, is the author of this epistle. Jesus must be the Messiah, or his wife could not have been so chaste! The adjective "chaste" is here to be taken in a large sense; it is the same which enters into the verb translated "purify" in 1Peter 1:22, and it is implied that the "fear" (i.e., of the husband; comp. Note on 1Peter 2:18) has been an incentive to this sweet virtue; "your life so immaculate in fear," or even almost "so timidly pure." Leighton says, "It is a delicate, timorous grace, afraid of the least air, or shadow of anything that hath but a resemblance of wronging it, in carriage or speech, or apparel, as follows in the third and fourth verses."

Pulpit Commentary
Verse 2. - While they behold (see note on 1 Peter 2:12, where the same verb occurs) your chaste conversation coupled with fear; literally, your chaste behavior, in fear. Bengel and others understand the fear of God. Certainly the holy fear of God is the sphere in which true Christians must always live. But the close connection with the word "chaste (τὴν ἐν φόβῳ ἁγνὴν ἀναστροφὴν ὑμῶν), and the parallel passage, Ephesians 5:33 (in the Greek), make it probable that the fear here inculcated is reverence for the husband - an anxious avoidance of anything that might even seem to interfere with his conjugal rights and authority.

Parallel Commentaries ...

Greek
when they see
ἐποπτεύσαντες (epopteusantes)
Verb - Aorist Participle Active - Nominative Masculine Plural
Strong's 2029: To be an eyewitness of, behold, look upon.
