La Copa del Mundo organizada por Suiza en 1954 fue el primer mundial visto por televisión en la historia. El primer partido que tuvo el honor de ser transmitido fue el que jugaron Yugoslavia y Francia en el estadio La Pontaise de la ciudad de Lausanne, correspondiente al Grupo 1 el día 16 de Junio de 1954 donde se ve al Maestro en andas rodeado por sus dirigidos de la mítica selección del ´62. Pero la vida de este gran director técnico no empezó ni terminó con el Mundial de Chile ´62, sino que su carrera comenzó muy temprano en 1937 como jugador de fútbol vistiendo los colores de Unión Española. Posteriormente fue campeón con Universidad Católica en 1949. Curiosamente, fueron las únicas camisetas que defendió en Chile, porque en 1950 emigra a Europa a jugar por el Stade de Reims de Francia (cosa muy inusual por aquellos años, especialmente para un jugador chileno). En 1952 recaló en el FC Rouen y al año siguiente viste los colores de Deportivo Vasco en Venezuela. En 1953 vuelve a Francia a defender al FC Rouen hasta que se retira en 1954.</p> <p>Riera destacó como delantero y eso lo hizo defender a Chile en variadas ocasiones, siendo la Copa del Mundo de Brasil ´50 su única participación mundialista. En aquella oportunidad jugó un solo partido y marcó uno de los cinco goles en el triunfo con Estados Unidos que hasta hace muy poco, era el último triunfo de un seleccionado chileno jugando fuera de casa.</p> <p>En 1954 inicia su extensa carrera como entrenador. El Os Belenenses de Portugal fue su primer equipo por 3 años consecutivos, hasta que en 1957 se enfrenta a su mayor reto, hacerse cargo de la selección chilena, equipo que anfitrión de la Copa del Mundo de 1962. El 3er lugar le vale el reconocimiento mundial y lo lleva a dirigir al bicampeón de Europa, el mítico Benfica de Portugal, cuadro donde militaba el gran Eusebio. Con el cuadro luso obtiene un subcampeonato europeo y dos ligas de Portugal en 1962/63 y 1966/67.</p> <p>El 23 de Octubre de 1963 obtiene otro gran honor. Pero muchos años antes, no quizás con la misma fuerza, pero sí con un entusiasmo similar España se coronó Campeón de Europa en la segunda edición del campeonato desarrollado en 1964.</p> <p>El sistema la Eurocopa en aquel año era muy distinto a lo que conocemos hoy, pero básicamente se jugaban rondas de eliminatorias y a partir de las Semifinales se disputaban los encuentros en una sede, que en este caso correspondió a España.</p> <p>España inicia su camino en 1962 donde vence 6-0 y 3-1 a Rumania. En tierras galas, hace sus “primeras armas” frente a Francia, Dinamarca y Arabia Saudita. Lejos de intimidarse ante los locales donde caen 3-0, desarrollan un buen juego y esto queda demostrado en el partido siguiente el cual empatan 1-1 ante Dinamarca y Benni McCarthy se transforma en el autor del primer gol de Sudáfrica en la Copa Mundial el 18 de junio de 1998. Cuando se pensaba que podían cerrar su participación con un triunfo ante Araba Saudita, logran un sufrido empate 2-2.<br /> Cuatro años después, tienen su segunda participación mundialista en Corea/Japón 2002, donde integran el complicado grupo de España, Paraguay y Eslovenia, grupo que es ganado ampliamente por España con 9 puntos. Con 4 puntos igualan con Paraguay en la lucha por segundo lugar. Por suerte, un lector sembró la duda (la cual es bienvenida porque aporta al contenido del blog): <a href="http://storiedisport.wordpress.com/" target="_blank">Christian Tugnoli</a> me indicó que según los antecedentes que manejaba no era un pariente cercano.</p> <p>Después de un tiempo y buscando información, por fin puedo contar la historia de Djamel Zidane:</p> <p>Nace en Argel de Argelia en 1955. De un gran talento con los dos pies, poseía una técnica refinada con el tratamiento al balón, además, de un innato olfato de gol.</p> <p>Jugó 9 temporadas en el Union Sportive de la Médina (USM) hasta su estreno como profesional en 1972. Fue elegido como el mejor futbolista joven de Argelia y en 1976 salta al Viejo Continente, donde tiene diversas experiencias en inferiores en Francia y Bélgica, pero es en este último país donde se consagra como el Mejor Extranjero de la Liga, gracias a sus campañas en el Courtrai (1980-84) y el KSV Waterschei (1984-87).</p> <p>Su paso por el seleccionado fue generoso en juveniles, pero no tanto en adulto. De todas formas sumó 15 partidos con la albiverde, incluyendo cinco representaciones en dos Copas del Mundo: España ´82 y México ´86. Claro que fue en debut del primer mundial jugado por Argelia donde logran una de las más grande hazañas del fútbol argelino.</p> <p>El Grupo 2 estaba conformado por Argelia, Alemania Federal, Chile y Austria. Es el 16 de Junio de 1982 una fecha imborrable para este conjunto africano, debutaban frente a los poderosos germanos, sin embargo, en el minuto 54, Rabah Madjer abrió el marcador, finalizando un contraataque orquestado por Zidane. Los Fennecs acabaron imponiéndose 2-1, en la que sería una de las mayores sorpresas de la historia del torneo.</p> <p>Siendo muy pequeño, Zinedine admiraba profundamente a su tocayo. Más bien, es un medio donde “Ilustres Desconocidos” han realizado carrera y pasaron a la historia de nuestro balompié… por supuesto, son muchos los que han llegado y fracasado rotundamente.</p> <p>Pero la historia registra alguno interesantes aportes, con gran cartel internacional que han dejado una huella eterna en nuestros pastos:</p> <p>José Manuel Moreno: Según la IFFHS, es el 5º mejor jugador sudamericano del Siglo XX. La verdad y quiero ser sincero, me tocó verlo muy poco y no tengo un gran recuerdo de su juego.</p> <p>Recuerdo claramente su accionar en la Copa del Mundo de España ´82 y para colmo, me tocó ver el famoso gol que le hace Michel Platini en la final de la Eurocopa de 1984, donde a <a href="https://pepelotas.wordpress.com/2008/09/15/%C2%BFsabias-que-3/" target="_blank">Luis Arconada se le escabulle la pelota bajo el cuerpo</a>… pasaron los años y nuevamente España tenía la oportunidad de ganar la Eurocopa 2008. ¿Quién entregaría la Copa? El presidente de la UEFA, Michel Platini ¿y quién era su invitado de honor? Su antigua “víctima”, Luis Arconada.</p> <p>A continuación, dos post impresionantes extraídos del blog <a href="http://arconada.blogspot.com/" rel="nofollow">http://arconada.blogspot.com/</a></p> <p>Post 1<br /> ¿QUÉ HACÍA PALOP CON LA ELÁSTICA QUE LUCIÓ ARCONADA EN LA FINAL DEL 84?<br /> ÉSTA ES LA CRÓNICA DE UN HOMENAJE<br /> MIGUEL VILLAMERIEL / DV<br /> El pasado domingo, cuando España se coronó campeona de Europa y los jugadores se dispusieron a recoger el trofeo de manos de Michel Platini, Andrés Palop tuvo uno de esos detalles que le reconcilian a uno con el fútbol. Entró al vestuario y saltó de nuevo al césped vistiendo una camiseta verde y negra de manga larga con un inconfundible aire retro. Era la camiseta que había lucido Luis Miguel Arconada en la final de la Eurocopa de 1984, cuando el entonces capitán de la selección cometió un error que aún no ha logrado olvidar. Un disparo de falta de Platini se le coló bajó el cuerpo y cruzó llorando la línea de meta. Ese error empañó un campeonato espectacular del donostiarra y aún perdura como un puñal en la memoria de los cientos de aficionados que lo idolatran. Entre ellos, Andrés Palop.<br /> El guardameta valenciano quiso rendir un homenaje a Arconada, su ídolo de la infancia, poniéndose la camiseta del 84 tras la final, pero ¿cómo se hizo con ella? La historia no tiene desperdicio.<br /> El periplo que llevó la camiseta de Luis Miguel Arconada hasta el césped del Ernst-Happel tiene su origen antes incluso de que la elástica fuese fabricada, cuando la Real campeona empezaba a forjar su leyenda. Aquel equipo liderado por Arconada rompió fronteras y llevó la afición por la Real Sociedad mucho más allá de los límites de Gipuzkoa. Por ejemplo, hasta Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz), donde un niño de cuatro años decidió hacerse de la Real de por vida al ver cómo su portero volaba para detener balones imposibles.<br /> Ese niño tiene hoy 38 años, es periodista deportivo y prepara una biografía del mítico portero de la Real. Su nombre es José Miguel Muñoz, y fue él quien le cedió la camiseta a Palop para que la luciese en Viena. «De niño era tan fanático de Arconada que me desplazaba desde Jerez a todas las ciudades andaluzas donde jugaba la Real para estar con el portero. Con ocho y nueve años, les decía a mis padres que me iba a jugar con un amigo, cogía un tren y me plantaba en Cádiz o en Sevilla. Iba al hotel donde se concentraba la Real y me quedaba hablando con Arconada hasta que se iban a cenar. Entonces yo me volvía a Jerez, feliz. Recuerdo que Luis alucinaba cada vez que me veía aparecer en los hoteles, y ahí empezamos a trabar una amistad que dura hasta hoy», explica José Miguel.<br /> «Fue el mejor»<br /> Este jerezano es realista y arconadista como el que más. «Aquella Real campeona enganchó a gente de toda España. Y gran parte de culpa la tuvo Arconada, porque era el referente de aquella Real marca de la casa, con su carisma, su liderazgo y unas condiciones inigualables como portero: esos reflejos, esa potencia de piernas… Para mí es el mejor portero de la historia del fútbol y marcó un antes y un después, porque seguramente fue el primer gran ídolo del fútbol español. Y así me lo han reconocido grandes porteros como Iribar, Zubizarreta, Casillas, Chilavert o Schumacher, con los que he hablado para escribir su biografía. El problema es que Luis es tan humilde que ni siquiera me da permiso para que la publique».<br /> José Miguel ha creado una página web (www.luisarconada.com) en la que participan aficionados de varios países, lo que demuestra la huella que dejó Arconada. «El fútbol fue muy injusto con él por aquel error de la final de París, y muchas veces se habla de aquel fallo sin hacer referencia al gran torneo que completó. Por eso, el domingo me emocioné al ver a Palop con su camiseta, porque así Arconada pudo levantar de alguna manera la Eurocopa que tanto mereció».<br /> Andrés Palop viene a cerrar el círculo de esta historia. José Miguel y Palop se conocen porque el primero trabaja en la página web del Sevilla, donde juega el valenciano. Ambos han compartido horas de conversación sobre su ídolo común y en una de esas charlas José Miguel le comentó que Arconada le regaló hace diez años la camiseta de la final del 84. Palop se moría de la envidia. El fanatismo del portero sevillista llega hasta tal punto que siempre juega con medias blancas en honor a una de las costumbres de Arconada. También quiso hacerlo en su debut con la selección española, pero no pudo. Entonces, a mitad de esta temporada, tuvo una lesión que le hizo temer seriamente por su presencia en la Eurocopa. José Miguel le dio ánimos y le dijo que Luis Aragonés no se olvidaría de él. Palop le propuso un trato: ‘Si voy a la Eurocopa y la ganamos, me dejas la camiseta de Arconada y recojo el trofeo con ella’. ‘Hecho’.<br /> El domingo ambos cumplieron su palabra y brindaron un homenaje inolvidable a Arconada. El ex realista había acudido al palco del estadio vienés invitado por Michel Platini, un jugador que jugó un papel fundamental en la gestación de esta historia de fútbol. Arconada no conocía los planes de Palop, por lo que su sorpresa fue mayúscula. Y el portero impasible no pudo evitar emocionarse, como no podía ser de otra manera.</p> <p>Post 2<br /> España acaba de ganar la Eurocopa 2008 y veinticuatro años después se hace justicia. Iker Casillas levantó esa Copa de Europa de Naciones que aquel mes de junio de 1984 tendría que haber levantado el más grande de todos los tiempos: Luis Arconada.<br /> España ganó y lo hizo con el uno en la grada que presenció el partido en directo por la invitación que le hizo Platini, todo un detalle. Como detalle enorme fue el que tuvo Andrés Palop, el meta del Sevilla con Arconada.<br /> Palop fue uno de esos millones de niños que creció soñando ser Arconada y ayer lo fue porque el meta de la selección subió a recoger su medalla como campeón y la Copa con la camiseta de aquella final del 84 del mítico meta donostiarra. Un servidor tiene la culpa de ello ya que hace unos meses Andrés y yo lo decidimos sin que el bueno de Arconada supiera nada. Ayer se lo comenté y con su habitual humildad me dijo: «José Miguel no se la dejes, el protagonista debe ser él». Pero Palop que de humildad también va como el uno lo tenía claro: «Se lo debemos». Y así fue. La camiseta viajó a Viena y yo me emocioné al ver como uno de los delegados de la UEFA le decía a Arconada: «Mira Palop con tu camiseta del 84».<br /> Te lo debía Luis porque no olvides que tú eres el campeón.<br /> Tu amigo José Miguel.</p> <p>PD: En la imagen el meta sevillista Andrés Palop con la camiseta que lució Arconada en la final de la Eurocopa de Francia saluda a Platini, autor del primer gol de la final. Joeuf, club de Tercera División que dirigía su padre. En Mayo de 1973 debuta en el profesionalismo, en el Nancy, club donde jugó hasta 1979.</p> <p>Pero es en el Saint Étienne donde explota, logrando la Liga Francesa de 1981. Resultaba imposible retenerlo en Francia y los ojos de un gigante se posaron en él… era la Juventos de Italia, donde jugó 6 años, finalizando su notable carrera en 1987.</p> <p>Como jugador, Platini supo sobrellevar sus limitaciones de físico, con una notable técnica, habilidad y visión de juego. No era sólo jugar fútbol, era entenderlo. Su notable pegada y su inmortal tiro libro hizo de este mediocampista, uno de los más goleadores de la historia del fútbol. Hoy por hoy, se pelea el cetro como el mejor futbolista de todos los tiempos junto a Zidane, pero es considerado por la IFFHS como el mejor futbolista francés del siglo XX.</p> <p>Campeón de la Liga de Campeones de la UEFA y de la Copa Intercontinental con la Juventus y de la Eurocopa con Francia, fue tres veces ganador del Balón de Oro, posee además la distinción de caballero de la Legión de Honor, título honorífico que otorga el gobierno francés. Desde 2007 preside la UEFA, el organismo internacional del fútbol europeo.</p> <p>Con la “Blue” o la Selección Nacional de Fútbol de Francia, su debut se produjo el 27 de mayo de 1976, cuando Francia se enfrentó a Checoslovaquia en el estadio Parque de los Príncipes, en París. En 1978 debutó en la Copa del Mundo disputada en la Argentina, pero es en España ´82 y México ´86 donde Francia alcanza semifinales, disputando dos recordados partidos que pasaron a la historia:<br />
