and there<MH8033> Israel<MH3478> camped<MH2583> in front<MH5048> of the mountain<MH2022>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/19-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>And Moses<MH4872> went<MH5927> up<MH5927> to God<MH430>, and the LORD<MH3068> called<MH7121> to him from the mountain<MH2022>, saying<MH559>, “This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> you shall say<MH559> to the house<MH1004> of Jacob<MH3290> and tell<MH5046> the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478>: <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/19-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>‘You yourselves<MH864b> have seen<MH7200> what<MH834> I did<MH6213a> to the Egyptians<MH4714>, and <i>how</i> I carried<MH5375> you on eagles’<MH5404> wings<MH3671>, and brought<MH935> you to Myself. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/19-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>Now<MH6258> then, if<MH518> you will indeed<MH8085> obey<MH8085> My voice<MH6963> and keep<MH8104> My covenant<MH1285>, then you shall be My <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>own possession<MH5459> among<MH4480> all<MH3605> the peoples<MH5971a>, for all<MH3605> the earth<MH776> is Mine; <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/19-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>and you shall be to Me a kingdom<MH4467> of priests<MH3548> and a holy<MH6918> nation<MH1471>.’ These<MH428> are the words<MH1697> that you shall speak<MH1696> to the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/19-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>So Moses<MH4872> came<MH935> and called<MH7121> the elders<MH2205> of the people<MH5971a>, and set<MH7760> before<MH6440> them all<MH3605> these<MH428> words<MH1697> which<MH834> the LORD<MH3068> had commanded<MH6680> him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/19-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>Then all<MH3605> the people<MH5971a> answered<MH6030a> together<MH3164a> and said<MH559>, “All<MH3605> that the LORD<MH3068> has spoken<MH1696> we will do<MH6213a>!” And Moses<MH4872> brought<MH7725> back<MH7725> the words<MH1697> of the people<MH5971a> to the LORD<MH3068>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/19-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>Then the LORD<MH3068> said<MH559> to Moses<MH4872>, “Behold<MH2009>, I will come<MH935> to you in a thick<MH5672> cloud<MH6051>, so<MH5668> that<MH5668> the people<MH5971a> may hear<MH8085> when I speak<MH1696> with you and may also<MH1571> trust<MH539> in you forever<MH5769>.” Then Moses<MH4872> told<MH5046> the words<MH1697> of the people<MH5971a> to the LORD<MH3068>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/19-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>The LORD<MH3068> also said<MH559> to Moses<MH4872>, “Go<MH1980> to the people<MH5971a> and consecrate<MH6942> them today<MH3117> and tomorrow<MH4279>, and have them wash<MH3526> their garments<MH8071>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/19-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>and have them ready<MH3559> for the third<MH7992> day<MH3117>, for on the third<MH7992> day<MH3117> the LORD<MH3068> will come<MH3381> down<MH3381> on Mount<MH2022> Sinai<MH5514> in the sight<MH5869> of all<MH3605> the people<MH5971a>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/19-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>But you shall set<MH1379> boundaries<MH1379> for the people<MH5971a> all<MH5439> around<MH5439>, saying<MH559>, ‘<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>Beware<MH8104> that you do not go<MH5927> up<MH5927> on the mountain<MH2022> or touch<MH5060> the border<MH7097a> of it; whoever<MH3605> touches<MH5060> the mountain<MH2022> shall certainly<MH4191> be put<MH4191> to<MH4191> death<MH4191>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/19-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>No<MH3808> hand<MH3027> shall touch<MH5060> him, but he shall certainly<MH5619> be stoned<MH5619> or<MH176> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>shot<MH3384> through<MH3384>; whether<MH518> animal<MH929> or<MH518> person<MH376>, <i>the violator</i> shall not live<MH2421a>.’ When the ram’s<MH3104> horn<MH3104> sounds<MH4900> a<MH4900> long<MH4900> blast<MH4900>, they shall come<MH5927> up<MH5927> to the mountain<MH2022>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/19-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>So Moses<MH4872> went<MH3381> down<MH3381> from the mountain<MH2022> to the people<MH5971a> and consecrated<MH6942> the people<MH5971a>, and they washed<MH3526> their garments<MH8071>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/19-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>He also said<MH559> to the people<MH5971a>, “Be ready<MH3559> for the third<MH7969> day<MH3117>; do not go<MH5066> near<MH5066> a woman<MH802>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/19-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>So it came<MH1961> about<MH1961> on the third<MH7992> day<MH3117>, when it was morning<MH1242>, that there were <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>thunder<MH6963> and lightning<MH1300> flashes<MH1300> and a thick<MH3515> cloud<MH6051> over the mountain<MH2022> and a very<MH3966> loud<MH2389> trumpet<MH7782> sound<MH6963>, so that all<MH3605> the people<MH5971a> who<MH834> <i>were</i> in the camp<MH4264> trembled<MH2729>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/19-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>And Moses<MH4872> brought<MH3318> the people<MH5971a> out<MH3318> of the camp<MH4264> to meet<MH7122> God<MH430>, and they stood<MH3320> at the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>foot<MH8482> of the mountain<MH2022>. <p class="hdg">The LORD Visits Sinai</p><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/19-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>Now Mount<MH2022> Sinai<MH5514> <i>was</i> all<MH3605> in smoke<MH6225> because<MH4480, 6440, 834> the LORD<MH3068> descended<MH3381> upon it in fire<MH784>; and its smoke<MH6227> ascended<MH5927> like the smoke<MH6227> of a furnace<MH3536>, and the entire<MH3605> mountain<MH2022> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>quaked<MH2729> violently<MH3966>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/19-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>When the sound<MH6963> of the trumpet<MH7782> grew<MH1980> louder<MH2388> and louder<MH3966>, Moses<MH4872> spoke<MH1696>, and God<MH430> answered<MH6030a> him with <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>thunder<MH6963>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/19-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>Then the LORD<MH3068> came<MH3381> down<MH3381> on Mount<MH2022> Sinai<MH5514>, to the top<MH7218> of the mountain<MH2022>; and the LORD<MH3068> called<MH7121> Moses<MH4872> to the top<MH7218> of the mountain<MH2022>, and Moses<MH4872> went<MH5927> up<MH5927>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/19-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>Then the LORD<MH3068> spoke<MH559> to Moses<MH4872>: “Go<MH3381> down<MH3381>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>warn<MH5749b> the people<MH5971a>, so<MH6435> that<MH6435> they do not<MH6435> break<MH2040> through<MH2040> to the LORD<MH3068> to stare<MH7200>, and many<MH7227a> of them <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>perish<MH5307>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/19-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>Also<MH1571> have the priests<MH3548> who approach the LORD<MH3068> consecrate<MH6942> themselves, or<MH6435> else<MH6435> the LORD<MH3068> will break<MH6555> out<MH6555> against them.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/19-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>And Moses<MH4872> said<MH559> to the LORD<MH3068>, “The people<MH5971a> cannot<MH3201, 3808> come<MH5927> up<MH5927> to Mount<MH2022> Sinai<MH5514>, for You <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>warned<MH5749b> us, saying<MH559>, ‘Set<MH1379> boundaries<MH1379> around the mountain<MH2022> and consecrate<MH6942> it.’” <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/19-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>Then the LORD<MH3068> said<MH559> to him, “<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>Go<MH1980, 3381> down<MH3381> and come<MH5927> up<MH5927> <i>again,</i> you and Aaron<MH175> with you;
