rel="noopener"><strong>report</strong> </a>by the <em>Daily Mail</em> has shed light on an alarming trend affecting Europe’s immigration system. What was originally intended as a humanitarian policy of offering automatic, bona fide asylum rights to Eritreans has backfired. Instead of helping genuine refugees, this policy has inadvertently opened the door for a wave of fraudulent asylum seekers from neighboring <strong>Ethiopia</strong> to flood into the UK and other European nations. <span id="more-67186"></span></p><p style="text-align: justify;">The investigation reveals a widespread network of thousands of Ethiopian migrants who have mastered the art of exploiting asylum loopholes. By sharing extensive training material online, these individuals coach each other on how to deceive immigration officers into believing they are “Eritrean”, thus qualifying for automatic asylum in Europe.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">One such individual, <strong>Michaele Abraha</strong>, boasts to his 16,000 followers on TikTok about his success in fooling the system. Despite living comfortably with his family in a council flat in Southwark, London, Abraha <a href="https://x.com/TRobinsonNewEra/status/1858157660635349389" target="_blank"><strong>openly admits</strong></a> he falsely claimed asylum as an “Eritrean” to gain legal residency in the UK. In his social media posts, he even goes a step further, teaching others how to replicate his fraudulent tactics.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">The <em>Daily Mail</em>’s exposé goes beyond Abraha, uncovering several live TikTok video calls where six other Ethiopian migrants also confessed to securing asylum status by pretending to be Eritrean.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">According to Home Office data, between 2010 and March 2024, nearly 35,000 asylum claims were made by individuals purporting to be from Eritrea. This figure has raised serious questions about the <a href="https://tesfanews.com/exposing-the-abuse-of-eritrean-asylum-policies/"><strong>authenticity of these claims</strong></a> and the efficacy of the current asylum screening process.</p><p>A spokesperson for the Home Office, when presented with evidence of these fraudulent activities, stated:</p><blockquote><p><strong>“We are looking into these claims and will always seek to revoke refugee status where evidence shows it was granted under false pretenses.”</strong></p></blockquote><p style="text-align: justify;">The European policy of granting “automatic asylum to Eritreans” was rooted in the UNHCR’s “Eligibility Guidelines” that was issued in 2009 and 2011.
