Some of the root causes of computer anxiety among university librarians such as lack of exposure to computers at early age, inadequate computer skills, inadequate computer training, fear at the sight of a computer, lack of understanding of how computers work, etc. were pin-pointed in the study. Also, the different services rendered in the university libraries with the aid of computers such as reference services, circulation services, acquisition services, cataloguing and classification services, etc. were identified. The study employed the descriptive survey research design through the expo-facto method, with a population of 56 librarians, while the simple percentage and frequency counts were used to analyze the data generated from the administered copies of the questionnaire. Based on the aforementioned root causes of computer anxiety and the resultant effect on computerized library system, recommendations were proffered in the study. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=computer%20anxiety" title="computer anxiety">computer anxiety</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=computerized%20library%20system" title=" computerized library system"> computerized library system</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=library%20services" title=" library services"> library services</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=university%20librarians" title=" university librarians"> university librarians</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/63816/computer-anxiety-and-the-use-of-computerized-system-by-university-librarians-in-delta-state-university-library-nigeria" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/63816.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">387</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">969</span> Assessment of the Administration and Services of Public Access Computers in Academic Libraries in Kaduna State, Nigeria</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Usman%20Ahmed%20Adam">Usman Ahmed Adam</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Umar%20Ibrahim"> Umar Ibrahim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ezra%20S.%20Gbaje"> Ezra S. The study aimed to determine the computers and other tools available, their services and challenges of the practices. Three questions were framed to identify number of public computers and tools available, their services and problems faced during the practice. The study used qualitative research design along with semi-constructed interview and observation as tools for data collection. Descriptive analysis was employed to analyze the data. The sample size of the study comprises 52 librarian and IT staff from the seven academic institutions in Kaduna State. The findings revealed that, PACs were provided for access to the Internet, digital resources, library catalogue and training services. The study further explored that, despite the limit number of the computers, users were not allowed to enjoy many services. The study recommends that libraries in Kaduna state should provide more public computers to be able to cover the population of their users; libraries should allow users to use the computers without limitations and restrictions. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=academic%20libraries" title="academic libraries">academic libraries</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=computers%20in%20library" title=" computers in library"> computers in library</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=digital%20libraries" title=" digital libraries"> digital libraries</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=public%20computers" title=" public computers"> public computers</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/43705/assessment-of-the-administration-and-services-of-public-access-computers-in-academic-libraries-in-kaduna-state-nigeria" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/43705.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">352</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">968</span> A Practical Approach and Implementation of Digital Library Towards Best Practice in Malaysian Academic Library</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zainab%20Ajab%20Mohideen">Zainab Ajab Mohideen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kiran%20Kaur"> Kiran Kaur</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=A.%20Basheer%20Ahamadhu"> A. So understanding teachers’ beliefs and their use of computers is an important way to create effective motivational systems for teachers to use computers in the classroom in an effective way.A qualitative study (6 focus group) was carried out among Saudi High school teachers, both male and female, to examine their attitudes towards computers and to find out their computer skills and usage. The study showed a gender difference in that females were less likely to attend computer workshops, females also had less computer skills, and they have more negative attitudes towards computers than males. Also, the study found that low computer skills in the classroom made students unlikely to have the lessons presented using computers. Furthermore, the study found some factors that affected teachers’ attitudes towards computers. These factors were computer experience and confidence as much having skills and good experience in computer use, the role and importance of computers had become in their life and in teaching as well. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=attitude" title="attitude">attitude</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=education" title=" education"> education</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=student" title=" student"> student</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=teacher" title=" teacher"> teacher</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=technology" title=" technology"> technology</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/20160/the-attitude-of-high-school-teachers-in-saudi-arabia-towards-computers-qualitative-study" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/20160.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">293</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">963</span> Conceptual Design of a Wi-Fi and GPS Based Robotic Library Using an Intelligent System</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=M.%20S.%20Sreejith">M. The robot works on the ARM microprocessor, motor driver circuit with 5 degrees of freedom with Wi-Fi and GPS based communication protocol. The authenticity of the library books is controlled by RFID. The proposed robotic library system is facilitated with embedded system and ARM. In this library issuance system the previous potential readers’ authentic review reports have been taken into consideration for recommending suitable books to the deserving new users and the issuance of books or periodicals is based on the users’ decision. We have conjectured that the Wi-Fi based robotic library management system would allow fast transaction of books issuance and it also produces quality readers. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=GPS%20bsed%20based%20Robotic%20library" title="GPS bsed based Robotic library">GPS bsed based Robotic library</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=library%20management%20system" title=" library management system"> library management system</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=robotic%20library" title=" robotic library"> robotic library</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wi-Fi%20library" title=" Wi-Fi library"> Wi-Fi library</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/42874/conceptual-design-of-a-wi-fi-and-gps-based-robotic-library-using-an-intelligent-system" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/42874.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">307</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">962</span> Role of Academic Library in/for Information Literacy</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Veena%20Rani">Veena Rani</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper presents the role of academic library in information literacy in the present time. Findings of such studies which often employed survey research approach have guided librarians and library stakeholders in their drive to improve library services to patrons. However, with the advent of digital library services, librarians and information science researchers have been experiencing methodological issues in the study of digital library services. While some quantitative approaches have been employed to understand adoption and usage of digital library services, conflicting results from such studies have increased the need to employ qualitative approaches. The appropriateness of the qualitative approaches has also been questioned. This contribution focuses on the development and deployment of the new communication library DIALOG for the intelligent, FPGA-based Data Acquisition System (iFDAQ) of the COMPASS experiment at CERN. The iFDAQ utilizing a hardware event builder is designed to be able to readout data at the maximum rate of the experiment. The DIALOG library is a communication system both for distributed and mixed environments, it provides a network transparent inter-process communication layer. Using the high-performance and modern C++ framework Qt and its Qt Network API, the DIALOG library presents an alternative to the previously used DIM library. The DIALOG library was fully incorporated to all processes in the iFDAQ during the run 2016. From the software point of view, it might be considered as a significant improvement of iFDAQ in comparison with the previous run. To extend the possibilities of debugging, the online monitoring of communication among processes via DIALOG GUI is a desirable feature. In the paper, we present the DIALOG library from several insights and discuss it in a detailed way. Moreover, the efficiency measurement and comparison with the DIM library with respect to the iFDAQ requirements is provided. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=data%20acquisition%20system" title="data acquisition system">data acquisition system</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=DIALOG%20library" title=" DIALOG library"> DIALOG library</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=DIM%20library" title=" DIM library"> DIM library</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=FPGA" title=" FPGA"> FPGA</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Qt%20framework" title=" Qt framework"> Qt framework</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=TCP%2FIP" title=" TCP/IP"> TCP/IP</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/62968/the-communication-library-dialog-for-ifdaq-of-the-compass-experiment" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/62968.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">316</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">955</span> Improving Library Service Quality in Local City of Indonesia</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Prima%20Fithri">Prima Fithri</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Afri%20Adnan"> Afri Adnan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Verra%20Syahmer"> Verra Syahmer</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Library as a public service should be able to provide excellent and quality service. Although proposing a 3TA-based graph library, three following reasons motivated us to redesign the graph ‎library based on the service-oriented architecture (SOA): (1) Maintaining the accuracy of the data related to an input graph (including its edges, its ‎vertices, its topology, etc.) without involving the end user:‎ Since, in the case of using 3TA, the library files are available to the end users, they may ‎be utilized incorrectly, and consequently, the invalid graph data will be provided to the ‎computer algorithms. However, considering the usage of the SOA, the operation of the ‎graph registration is specified as a service by encapsulation of the library files. In other words, overall control operations needed for registration of the valid data will be the ‎responsibility of the services. (2) Partitioning of the library product into some different parts: Considering 3TA, a whole library product was provided in general. While here, the product ‎can be divided into smaller ones, such as an AND/OR graph drawing service, and each ‎one can be provided individually. As a result, the end user will be able to select any ‎parts of the library product, instead of all features, to add it to a project. (3) Reduction of the complexities: While using 3TA, several other libraries must be needed to add for connecting to the ‎database, responsibility of the provision of the needed library resources in the SOA-‎based graph library is entrusted with the services by themselves. Therefore, the end user ‎who wants to use the graph library is not involved with its complexity. In the end, in order to ‎make ‎the library easier to control in the system, and to restrict the end user from accessing the files, ‎it was preferred to use the service-oriented ‎architecture ‎‎(SOA) over the three-tier architecture (3TA) and to redevelop the previously proposed graph library based on it‎. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bio-Design%20Automation" title="Bio-Design Automation">Bio-Design Automation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Biological%20System" title=" Biological System"> Biological System</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Graph%20Library" title=" Graph Library"> Graph Library</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Service-Oriented%20Architecture" title=" Service-Oriented Architecture"> Service-Oriented Architecture</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Systems%20and%20Synthetic%20Biology" title=" Systems and Synthetic Biology"> Systems and Synthetic Biology</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/85620/a-graph-library-development-based-on-the-service-oriented-architecture-used-for-representation-of-the-biological-systems-in-the-computer-algorithms" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/85620.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">311</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">953</span> Digital Library in India: Importance and Problem Issues in Present Days: A Conceptual Study</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mehtab%20Alam%20Ansari">Mehtab Alam Ansari</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shamim%20Aktar%20Munshi"> Shamim Aktar Munshi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The purpose of this paper is to find out the importance of digital libraries in Indian educational system, and also different types of problems faced by the digital library in modern age. The Panjab University Library is one of the biggest libraries of India and was inaugurated in 1963 by Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, the then Prime Minister of India. The library always thrives to assimilate new technology for the provision of Information services. As we know that the Information seekers today are a whole lot different, they are tech savvy, like to be on their electronic gadgets most of the time, and their Information seeking patterns are also different, the challenge that lies before the libraries is to be always ready for these day to day challenges. The study explores the current status of the Information Services being provided by the Panjab University Library (the Information Providers) vs. the evaluation of these Information services by the users of Library (the Information Seekers). The present study aimed at finding out whether Panjab University Library is able to achieve its mission to be an innovative and user-oriented library by exploring all the new vistas and reach up to the expectations of the information seekers by taking up all the challenges being posed by the ever changing technological scenario. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electronic%20environment" title="electronic environment">electronic environment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=information%20seekers" title=" information seekers"> information seekers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=information%20providers" title=" information providers"> information providers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=new%20technology" title=" new technology"> new technology</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/55541/information-seekers-vs-information-providers-new-vistas-and-new-challenges-for-the-libraries-today-a-case-study-of-the-panjab-university-library-chandigarh-india" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/55541.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">262</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">946</span> Management of Indigenous Knowledge: Expectations of Library and Information Professionals in Developing Countries</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Desmond%20Chinedu%20Oparaku">Desmond Chinedu Oparaku</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pearl%20C.%20Akanwa"> Pearl C. This is an applied study falling in the category of qualitative approach research. Documentary analysis method and comparative method were used to resolve the problem and answer the questions of the research. The two National Library of Australia (NLA) and Library of Congress (LC), together with the NLAI formed the research community. In addition, the Iranian Law for the Protection of Authors, Composers and Artists Rights (1970); the Australian Copyright Act (1968), and the U.S. Copyright Law (1976) were purposefully selected as three main resources among other documents and resources. Findings revealed that the dimensions of fair and non-profit use, duration of copyright, license, and agreement, copyright policy, moral rights, economic rights, and infringement of copyright were the main dimensions that, along with 49 main components, formed the proposed framework for the copyright of information resources for the NLAI and other Iranian libraries. It should be acknowledged that there are some differences in different copyright fields between countries' laws, and each country takes into account its internal conditions to compile and revise the laws. By following the laws of other countries, it is possible to effectively improve and develop copyright laws. The researcher hopes that this research can have its effects in creating awareness and ability among librarians, formulating a copyright policy in Iranian libraries, and helping legislators in revising copyright laws regarding library exceptions and exemptions. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=copyright" title="copyright">copyright</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=library%20resources" title=" library resources"> library resources</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=National%20Library%20and%20Archives%20of%20the%20I.R.%20of%20Iran" title=" National Library and Archives of the I.R. of Iran"> National Library and Archives of the I.R. of Iran</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=National%20Library%20of%20Australia" title=" National Library of Australia"> National Library of Australia</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Library%20of%20Congress" title=" Library of Congress"> Library of Congress</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=copyright%20law" title=" copyright law"> copyright law</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/173543/providing-a-proposed-framework-for-the-copyright-of-library-resources-in-iran-a-comparative-study-of-the-copyright-laws-of-iran-australia-and-us" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/173543.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">75</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">943</span> Efficient Utilization of Commodity Computers in Academic Institutes: A Cloud Computing Approach</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jasraj%20Meena">Jasraj Meena</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Malay%20Kumar"> Malay Kumar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Manu%20Vardhan"> Manu Vardhan</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Cloud computing is a new technology in industry and academia. The technology has grown and matured in last half decade and proven their significant role in changing environment of IT infrastructure where cloud services and resources are offered over the network. Cloud technology enables users to use services and resources without being concerned about the technical implications of technology. There are substantial research work has been performed for the usage of cloud computing in educational institutes and majority of them provides cloud services over high-end blade servers or other high-end CPUs. However, this paper proposes a new stack called “CiCKAStack” which provide cloud services over unutilized computing resources, named as commodity computers. “CiCKAStack” provides IaaS and PaaS using underlying commodity computers. This will not only increasing the utilization of existing computing resources but also provide organize file system, on demand computing resource and design and development environment. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=commodity%20computers" title="commodity computers">commodity computers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cloud-computing" title=" cloud-computing"> cloud-computing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=KVM" title=" KVM"> KVM</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CloudStack" title=" CloudStack"> CloudStack</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=AppScale" title=" AppScale"> AppScale</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/18221/efficient-utilization-of-commodity-computers-in-academic-institutes-a-cloud-computing-approach" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/18221.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">272</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">942</span> Building Knowledge Society: The Imperative Role of Library and Information Centres (LICs) in Developing Countries</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Desmond%20Chinedu%20Oparaku">Desmond Chinedu Oparaku</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Oyemike%20Victor%20Benson"> Oyemike Victor Benson</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ifeyinwa%20A.%20Ariole"> Ifeyinwa A. Findings from this study revealed that capacity building and motivation have positive impact on library personnel productivity with their percentages greater than 50% acceptance level. A test of null hypotheses at P < 0.05 significant level was tested to see the significance between capacity building and productivity, which was positive at P < 0.05 significant level. This implies that capacity building and motivation significantly determine productivity among library personnel in selected college libraries in Nigeria. The study concluded that there is need for institutions to equip their library personnel via training programmes, in-service, digital training, ICT training, seminars, and conferences, etc. Incentives should be provided to motivate personnel for high productivity. The study, therefore, recommends that government, institutions and library management should fund college libraries adequately so as to enhance capacity building, staff commitment and training for further education <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=capacity%20building" title="capacity building">capacity building</a>, <a
