Nurses Survey Series Results</h2> <p class="post__lead-in"> The American Nurses Foundation and the American Nurses Association launched the Pulse on the Nation鈥檚 Nurses Survey Series at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. All data gathered will be used to inform decisions about how to best support nurses during this public health crisis and beyond.</p> <div class="post__social-block grid-x"> <span class="post__author cell small-12 medium-8"> </span> <div class="cell small-12 medium-4 post__social-media addthis_inline_share_toolbox_rq5p"></div> <div class="post__content-well"> <h4 class="post__title">The following surveys are presented in chronological order, with the most recent at the top:</h4>  <h4><a href="/practice-policy/work-environment/health-safety/disaster-preparedness/coronavirus/what-you-need-to-know/multigenerational-nurse-experience-survey/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Multigenerational Nurse Experience Survey</a></h4> <p>The American Nurses Foundation conducted this survey to determine the how different generations of nurses engage and interact with each other as well as understanding what is important to nurses of various generations of nurses. This survey builds upon past surveys and includes questions on understanding how nurses feel when working with each other, likeliness of leaving their role, and understanding what may keep nurses practicing in their role longer. 5,772 nurses completed the survey between September 25-October 24, 2023.</p> <h4 class="post__title"><a href="/practice-policy/work-environment/health-safety/disaster-preparedness/coronavirus/what-you-need-to-know/survey-4/">Mental Health and Wellness Survey 4</a></h4> <p>As a follow-up to the American Nurses Foundation's first three Mental Health and Wellness surveys completed in summer 2020, December 2020, September 2021, the Foundation conducted this survey to determine the changes and further impact on the mental health and wellness of nurses, with additional enquiries concerning stress and burnout. 7,419 nurses completed the survey between April 24 -May 26, 2023.</p> <h4><a href="/practice-policy/work-environment/health-safety/disaster-preparedness/coronavirus/what-you-need-to-know/annual-survey--third-year/">Third Annual Assessment Survey </a></h4> <p>The American Nurses Foundation conducted this survey to determine the further impact of the pandemic on nurses. This survey builds upon past surveys and includes questions on mental health and well-being, financial impact, access to PPE, perceived organizational support, and intent to leave. 12,581 nurses completed the survey between November 1 – November 25, 2022.</p> <h4><a href="/practice-policy/work-environment/health-safety/disaster-preparedness/coronavirus/what-you-need-to-know/covid-19-survey-series-anf-2022-workplace-survey/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Workplace Survey</a></h4> <p>The American Nurses Foundation conducted this survey to determine the impact of the workplace on nurses. Between July 8 and 29, 2021, there were 4,912 nurses who shared their insight.</p> </div> <h4><a href="/practice-policy/work-environment/health-safety/disaster-preparedness/coronavirus/what-you-need-to-know/family-presence--visitation-during-covid-19-survey/">Family Presence & Visitation During COVID-19 Survey</a></h4> <p>The American Nurses Foundation, in partnership with <a href="https://planetree.org/">Planetree International</a>, conducted this survey focused on how family presence restrictions during the pandemic impacted patient care and nurses’ well-being. Between May 7 and 26, 2021, there were 3,613 nurses who shared their experiences with restrictions and bans on family presence and visitation during the pandemic.</p> <h4><a href="/practice-policy/work-environment/health-safety/disaster-preparedness/coronavirus/what-you-need-to-know/year-one-covid-19-impact-assessment-survey/">COVID-19 Impact Assessment Survey - The First Year</a></h4> <p>Following a series of surveys in 2020, the American Nurses Foundation conducted this comprehensive survey to learn more about the overall mental health and well-being, financial, and professional impact of the pandemic on U.S. nurses. 22,316 nurses responded to this survey between January 19 and February 16, 2021.</p> <h4><a href="/practice-policy/work-environment/health-safety/disaster-preparedness/coronavirus/what-you-need-to-know/mental-health-and-wellness-survey-2/">Mental Health and Wellness Survey 2</a></h4> <p>As a follow up to the American Nurses Foundation’s first Mental Health and Wellness survey completed in the summer of 2020, the American Nurses Foundation conducted a second survey of 12,881 nurses between December 4-30, 2020. This survey examined the ongoing impact the pandemic is having on the mental well-being of nurses. </p> <h4><a href="/practice-policy/work-environment/health-safety/disaster-preparedness/coronavirus/what-you-need-to-know/covid-19-vaccine-survey/">COVID-19 Vaccine Development Survey</a></h4> <p>This survey by the American Nurses Foundation explored nurses’ knowledge of and attitude toward COVID-19 vaccine development. From October 1-14, 2020, there were 12,939 nurses who responded. Please note, these responses reflect nurses’ perspectives prior to the FDA’s approval of the first COVID-19 vaccine in December 2020. The Foundation’s COVID-19 Impact Assessment - The First Year, has <a href="/practice-policy/work-environment/health-safety/disaster-preparedness/coronavirus/what-you-need-to-know/year-one-covid-19-impact-assessment-survey/">newer survey data</a> on nurses and COVID-19 vaccinations.</p> <h4><a href="/practice-policy/work-environment/health-safety/disaster-preparedness/coronavirus/what-you-need-to-know/innovation-survey/">Innovation Survey</a></h4> <p>The survey by the American Nurses Foundation focused on innovation. Between September 5 and October 2, 2020, there were 4,688 nurses who shared information on how their resourcefulness and creativity is helping identify new ways to care for patients. </p> <h4><a href="/practice-policy/work-environment/health-safety/disaster-preparedness/coronavirus/what-you-need-to-know/ppe-survey-2/">Personal Protective Equipment Survey 2</a></h4> <p>This survey on Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is a follow-up to the first PPE survey ANA conducted in May 2020. Between July 24 and August 14, there were 23,207 nurses who provided an updated picture of the PPE situation on the frontlines of the pandemic.</p> <h4><a href="/practice-policy/work-environment/health-safety/disaster-preparedness/coronavirus/what-you-need-to-know/financial-impact-survey/">Financial Impact Survey</a></h4> <p>This survey by the American Nurses Foundation focused the financial hardships nurses are experiencing due to the pandemic. Between July 9 – August 1, 2020, there were 10,099 nurses who shared information on the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.</p> <h4><a href="/practice-policy/work-environment/health-safety/disaster-preparedness/coronavirus/what-you-need-to-know/mental-health-and-wellbeing-survey/">Mental Health and Wellness Survey 1</a></h4> <p>This survey by the American Nurses Foundation focused on mental health and wellness, to gather insights and experiences of nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic. Between June 5 – July 6, 2020, there were 10,997 nurses who shared how the pandemic impacted their mental health and wellness.</p> <h4><a href="/~49cd40/globalassets/covid19/ppe-infographic-june-5-2020.pdf">Personal Protective Equipment Survey 1</a></h4> <p>ANA conducted a survey of nurses across all 50 states and 3 US territories, from May 15-31, 2020, to get a clearer picture of the personal protective equipment (PPE) situation on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic.
