banking sector is analyzed during the financial crisis. The risk expose of each financial institutions to the whole Taiwan banking systemic risk or vice versa under financial distress are measured by conditional Value-at-Risk (CoVaR) and conditional coherent expected shortfall (CoES). The CoVaR and CoES are estimated by using vector quantile autoregression (MVMQ-CaViaR) with the daily stock returns of each banks included domestic and foreign banks in Taiwan. The daily in-sample data covered the period from 05/20/2002 to 07/31/2007 and the out-of-sample period until 12/31/2013 spanning the 2008 U.S. subprime crisis, 2010 Greek debt crisis, and post risk duration. All banks in Taiwan are categorised into several groups according to their size of market capital, leverage and domestic/foreign to find out what the extent of changes of the systemic risk as the risk changes between the individuals in the bank groups and vice versa. The final results can provide a guidance to financial supervisory commission of Taiwan to gauge the downside risk in the system of financial institutions and determine the minimum capital requirement hold by financial institutions due to the sensibility changes in CoVaR and CoES of each banks. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bank%20financial%20distress" title="bank financial distress">bank financial distress</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vector%20quantile%20autoregression" title=" vector quantile autoregression"> vector quantile autoregression</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CoVaR" title=" CoVaR"> CoVaR</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CoES" title=" CoES"> CoES</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/53814/measuring-banking-systemic-risk-conditional-value-at-risk-and-conditional-coherent-expected-shortfall-in-taiwan-using-vector-quantile-garch-model" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/53814.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">386</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1109</span> The Contribution of Edgeworth, Bootstrap and Monte Carlo Methods in Financial Data</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Edlira%20Donefski">Edlira Donefski</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tina%20Donefski"> Tina Donefski</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lorenc%20Ekonomi"> Lorenc Ekonomi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Edgeworth Approximation, Bootstrap, and Monte Carlo Simulations have considerable impacts on achieving certain results related to different problems taken into study. In our paper, we have treated a financial case related to the effect that has the components of a cash-flow of one of the most successful businesses in the world, as the financial activity, operational activity, and investment activity to the cash and cash equivalents at the end of the three-months period. To have a better view of this case, we have created a vector autoregression model, and after that, we have generated the impulse responses in the terms of asymptotic analysis (Edgeworth Approximation), Monte Carlo Simulations, and residual bootstrap based on the standard errors of every series created. The generated results consisted of the common tendencies for the three methods applied that consequently verified the advantage of the three methods in the optimization of the model that contains many variants. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=autoregression" title="autoregression">autoregression</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bootstrap" title=" bootstrap"> bootstrap</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=edgeworth%20expansion" title=" edgeworth expansion"> edgeworth expansion</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Monte%20Carlo%20method" title=" Monte Carlo method"> Monte Carlo method</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/135149/the-contribution-of-edgeworth-bootstrap-and-monte-carlo-methods-in-financial-data" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/135149.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">153</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1108</span> Human Development Outcomes and Macroeconomic Indicators Nexus in Nigeria: An Empirical Investigation</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Risikat%20Oladoyin%20S.%20Dauda">Risikat Oladoyin S. Human development outcomes is measured by human development index while the selected macroeconomic variables are inflation rate, real interest rate, government capital expenditure, real exchange rate, current account balance, and savings. Structural Vector Autoregression (SVAR) technique is employed in examining the response of human development index to the macroeconomic shocks. The result from the forecast error variance decomposition and Impulse-Response analysis reveals that fiscal policy (government capital expenditure) shock is the greatest determinant of human development outcomes. This result reiterates the role which the government plays in improving the welfare of the citizenry. The fiscal policy tool is pivotal in human development which comes in the form of investment in education, health, housing, and infrastructure. Further conclusion drawn from this study is that human development outcome positively and significantly responds to shocks from real interest rate, a monetary policy transmission variable and is felt greatly in the short run period. The policy implication of this study is that if capital budget implementation falls below expectations, human development will be engendered. Hence, efforts should be made to ensure that full implementation and appraisal of government capital expenditure is taken sacrosanct as any shock from such plan, engenders human development outcome. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=human%20development%20outcome" title="human development outcome">human development outcome</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=macroeconomic%20outcomes" title=" macroeconomic outcomes"> macroeconomic outcomes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=structural%20vector%20autoregression" title=" structural vector autoregression"> structural vector autoregression</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=SVAR" title=" SVAR"> SVAR</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/95572/human-development-outcomes-and-macroeconomic-indicators-nexus-in-nigeria-an-empirical-investigation" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/95572.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">154</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1107</span> Assessing the Macroeconomic Effects of Fiscal Policy Changes in Egypt: A Bayesian Structural Vector Autoregression Approach</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Walaa%20Diab">Walaa Diab</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Baher%20Atlam"> Baher Atlam</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nadia%20El%20Nimer"> Nadia El Nimer</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Egypt faces many obvious economic challenges, and it is so clear that a real economic transformation is needed to address those problems, especially after the recent decisions of floating the Egyptian pound and the gradual subsidy cuts that are trying to meet the needed conditions to get the IMF support of (a £12bn loan) for its economic reform program. Following the post-2008 revival of the interest in the fiscal policy and its vital role in speeding up or slowing down the economic growth. Here comes the value of this paper as it seeks to analyze the macroeconomic effects of fiscal policy in Egypt by applying A Bayesian SVAR Approach. The study uses the Bayesian method because it includes the prior information and no relevant information is omitted and so it is well suited for rational, evidence-based decision-making. Since the study aims to define the effects of fiscal policy shocks in Egypt to help the decision-makers in determining the proper means to correct the structural problems in the Egyptian economy, it has to study the period of 1990s economic reform, but unfortunately; the available data is on an annual frequency. Thus, it uses annual time series to study the period 1991: 2005 And quarterly data over the period 2006–2016. It uses a set of six main variables includes government expenditure and net tax revenues as fiscal policy arms affecting real GDP, unemployment, inflation and the interest rate. The study also tries to assess the 'crowding out' effects by considering the effects of government spending and government revenue shocks on the composition of GDP, namely, on private consumption and private investment. Last but not least the study provides its policy implications regarding the needed role of fiscal policy in Egypt in the upcoming economic reform building on the results it concludes from the previous reform program. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fiscal%20policy" title="fiscal policy">fiscal policy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=government%20spending" title=" government spending"> government spending</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=structural%20vector%20autoregression" title=" structural vector autoregression"> structural vector autoregression</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=taxation" title=" taxation"> taxation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/61872/assessing-the-macroeconomic-effects-of-fiscal-policy-changes-in-egypt-a-bayesian-structural-vector-autoregression-approach" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/61872.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">277</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1106</span> Contextual Factors of Innovation for Improving Commercial Banks&#039; Performance in Nigeria</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tomola%20Obamuyi">Tomola Obamuyi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The banking system in Nigeria adopted innovative banking, with the aim of enhancing financial inclusion, and making financial services readily and cheaply available to majority of the people, and to contribute to the efficiency of the financial system. Some of the innovative services include: Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs), National Electronic Fund Transfer (NEFT), Point of Sale (PoS), internet (Web) banking, Mobile Money payment (MMO), Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS), agent banking, among others. The introduction of these payment systems is expected to increase bank efficiency and customers' satisfaction, culminating in better performance for the commercial banks. However, opinions differ on the possible effects of the various innovative payment systems on the performance of commercial banks in the country. Thus, this study empirically determines how commercial banks use innovation to gain competitive advantage in the specific context of Nigeria's finance and business. The study also analyses the effects of financial innovation on the performance of commercial banks, when different periods of analysis are considered. The study employed secondary data from 2009 to 2018, the period that witnessed aggressive innovation in the financial sector of the country. The Vector Autoregression (VAR) estimation technique forecasts the relative variance of each random innovation to the variables in the VAR, examine the effect of standard deviation shock to one of the innovations on current and future values of the impulse response and determine the causal relationship between the variables (VAR granger causality test). The study also employed the Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) to rank the innovations and the performance criteria of Return on Assets (ROA) and Return on Equity (ROE). The entropy method of MCDM was used to determine which of the performance criteria better reflect the contributions of the various innovations in the banking sector. On the other hand, the Range of Values (ROV) method was used to rank the contributions of the seven innovations to performance. The analysis was done based on medium term (five years) and long run (ten years) of innovations in the sector. The impulse response function derived from the VAR system indicated that the response of ROA to the values of cheques transaction, values of NEFT transactions, values of POS transactions was positive and significant in the periods of analysis. The paper also confirmed with entropy and range of value that, in the long run, both the CHEQUE and MMO performed best while NEFT was next in performance. The paper concluded that commercial banks would enhance their performance by continuously improving on the services provided through Cheques, National Electronic Fund Transfer and Point of Sale since these instruments have long run effects on their performance. This will increase the confidence of the populace and encourage more usage/patronage of these services. The banking sector will in turn experience better performance which will improve the economy of the country. The codebook is updated by comparing the distance of each vector to their centroid vector and measure for their closeness. In this paper vector quantization is modified based on vector difference algorithm for image enhancement purpose. In the proposed scheme, vector differences between the vectors are considered as the new generation vectors or new codebook vectors. The codebook is updated by comparing the new generation vector with a threshold value having minimum error with the parent vector. The minimum error decides the fitness of each newly generated vector. Thus the codebook is generated in an adaptive manner and the fitness value is determined for the suppression of the degraded portion of the image and thereby leads to the enhancement of the image through the adaptive searching capability of the vector quantization through vector difference algorithm. Experimental results shows that the vector difference scheme efficiently modifies the vector quantization algorithm for enhancing the image with peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR), mean square error (MSE), Euclidean distance (E_dist) as the performance parameters. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=codebook" title="codebook">codebook</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=image%20enhancement" title=" image enhancement"> image enhancement</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vector%20difference" title=" vector difference"> vector difference</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vector%20quantization" title=" vector quantization"> vector quantization</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/39597/vector-quantization-based-on-vector-difference-scheme-for-image-enhancement" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/39597.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">267</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1104</span> The Ever-Changing Connection Among Banks and Insurers: An Examination of the Financial Standing of the Financial System</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Iqra%20Ali">Iqra Ali</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This study uses panel Vector Auto Regression (VAR) to analyses the dynamic link between banking and insurance activities based on the asset size of the insurance industry for 73 countries between 1980 and 2014. Assets in the insurance industry and banking activities usually have a Granger causal link, according to panel Granger-causality tests. Impulse response analyses for the entire sample show that the size of insurance assets responds favorably to a shock to the liquid liabilities and deposits of the financial system but negatively to a shock to deposit money bank assets and private credit offered by commercial banks, other financial institutions, and deposit banks. While the findings for middle- and low-income nations varied significantly, the observations for high-income countries are essentially the same. Furthermore, we find that there is a substantial interplay between banking and insurance activity in civil law nations as opposed to common law ones. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vector%20autoregression" title="vector autoregression">vector autoregression</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=banking" title=" banking"> banking</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=insurance" title=" insurance"> insurance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Granger-causality" title=" Granger-causality"> Granger-causality</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/194797/the-ever-changing-connection-among-banks-and-insurers-an-examination-of-the-financial-standing-of-the-financial-system" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/194797.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">6</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1103</span> Imprecise Vector: The Case of Subnormality</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dhruba%20Das">Dhruba Das</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this article, the author has put forward the actual mathematical explanation of subnormal imprecise vector. Every subnormal imprecise vector has to be defined with reference to a membership surface. The Randomness- Impreciseness Consistency Principle leads to defining a normal law of impreciseness using two different laws of randomness. A normal imprecise vector is a special case of subnormal imprecise vector. Nothing however is available in the literature about the membership surface when a subnormal imprecise vector is defined. The author has shown here how to construct the membership surface of a subnormal imprecise vector. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=imprecise%20vector" title="imprecise vector">imprecise vector</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=membership%20surface" title=" membership surface"> membership surface</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=subnormal%20imprecise%20number" title=" subnormal imprecise number"> subnormal imprecise number</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=subnormal%20imprecise%20vector" title=" subnormal imprecise vector"> subnormal imprecise vector</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/44144/imprecise-vector-the-case-of-subnormality" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/44144.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">320</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1102</span> The Impact of Geopolitical Risks and the Oil Price Fluctuations on the Kuwaiti Financial Market</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Layal%20Mansour">Layal Mansour</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The aim of this paper is to identify whether oil price volatility or geopolitical risks can predict future financial stress periods or economic recessions in Kuwait. We construct the first Financial Stress Index for Kuwait (FSIK) that includes informative vulnerable indicators of the main financial sectors: the banking sector, the equities market, and the foreign exchange market. The study covers the period from 2000 to 2020, so it includes the two recent most devastating world economic crises with oil price fluctuation: the Covid-19 pandemic crisis and Ukraine-Russia War. All data are taken by the central bank of Kuwait, the World Bank, IMF, DataStream, and from Federal Reserve System St Louis. The variables are computed as the percentage growth rate, then standardized and aggregated into one index using the variance equal weights method, the most frequently used in the literature. The graphical FSIK analysis provides detailed information (by dates) to policymakers on how internal financial stability depends on internal policy and events such as government elections or resignation. It also shows how monetary authorities or internal policymakers’ decisions to relieve personal loans or increase/decrease the public budget trigger internal financial instability. The empirical analysis under vector autoregression (VAR) models shows the dynamic causal relationship between the oil price fluctuation and the Kuwaiti economy, which relies heavily on the oil price. Similarly, using vector autoregression (VAR) models to assess the impact of the global geopolitical risks on Kuwaiti financial stability, results reveal whether Kuwait is confronted with or sheltered from geopolitical risks. The Financial Stress Index serves as a guide for macroprudential regulators in order to understand the weakness of the overall Kuwaiti financial market and economy regardless of the Kuwaiti dinar strength and exchange rate stability. It helps policymakers predict future stress periods and, thus, address alternative cushions to confront future possible financial threats. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kuwait" title="Kuwait">Kuwait</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=financial%20stress%20index" title=" financial stress index"> financial stress index</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=causality%20test" title=" causality test"> causality test</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=VAR" title=" VAR"> VAR</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=oil%20price" title=" oil price"> oil price</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=geopolitical%20risks" title=" geopolitical risks"> geopolitical risks</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/161441/the-impact-of-geopolitical-risks-and-the-oil-price-fluctuations-on-the-kuwaiti-financial-market" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/161441.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">81</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1101</span> Factors of Non-Conformity Behavior and the Emergence of a Ponzi Game in the Riba-Free (Interest-Free) Banking System of Iran</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Amir%20Hossein%20Ghaffari%20Nejad">Amir Hossein Ghaffari Nejad</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Forouhar%20Ferdowsi"> Forouhar Ferdowsi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Reza%20Mashhadi"> Reza Mashhadi </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In the interest-free banking system of Iran, the savings of society are in the form of bank deposits, and banks using the Islamic contracts, allocate the resources to applicants for obtaining facilities and credit. In the meantime, the central bank, with the aim of introducing monetary policy, determines the maximum interest rate on bank deposits in terms of macroeconomic requirements. But in recent years, the country&#39;s economic constraints with the stagflation and the consequence of the institutional weaknesses of the financial market of Iran have resulted in massive disturbances in the balance sheet of the banking system, resulting in a period of mismatch maturity in the banks&#39; assets and liabilities and the implementation of a Ponzi game. This issue caused determination of the interest rate in long-term bank deposit contracts to be associated with non-observance of the maximum rate set by the central bank. The result of this condition was in the allocation of new sources of equipment to meet past commitments towards the old depositors and, as a result, a significant part of the supply of equipment was leaked out of the facilitating cycle and credit crunch emerged. The purpose of this study is to identify the most important factors affecting the occurrence of non-confirmatory financial banking behavior using data from 19 public and private banks of Iran. For this purpose, the causes of this non-confirmatory behavior of banks have been investigated using the panel vector autoregression method (PVAR) for the period of 2007-2015. Granger&#39;s causality test results suggest that the return of parallel markets for bank deposits, non-performing loans and the high share of the ratio of facilities to banks&#39; deposits are all a cause of the formation of non-confirmatory behavior. Also, according to the results of impulse response functions and variance decomposition, NPL and the ratio of facilities to deposits have the highest long-term effect and also have a high contribution to explaining the changes in banks&#39; non-confirmatory behavior in determining the interest rate on deposits. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=non-conformity%20behavior" title="non-conformity behavior">non-conformity behavior</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ponzi%20Game" title=" Ponzi Game"> Ponzi Game</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=panel%20vector%20autoregression" title=" panel vector autoregression"> panel vector autoregression</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nonperforming%20loans" title=" nonperforming loans"> nonperforming loans</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/86059/factors-of-non-conformity-behavior-and-the-emergence-of-a-ponzi-game-in-the-riba-free-interest-free-banking-system-of-iran" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/86059.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">218</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1100</span> Intracellular Strategies for Gene Delivery into Mammalian Cells Using Bacteria as a Vector</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kumaran%20Narayanan">Kumaran Narayanan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Andrew%20N.%20Osahor"> Andrew N. However, so far conditions to improve gene delivery using this vector have not been investigated, resulting in a major gap in our understanding of the requirements for this vector to function optimally. Our group recently published novel data showing that simple addition of the DNA transfection reagent Lipofectamine increased the efficiency of the E. coli vector by almost 3-fold, providing the first strong evidence that further optimization of bactofection is possible. This presentation will discuss advances that demonstrate the effects of several intracellular strategies that improve the efficiency of this vector. Conditions that promote endosomal escape of internalized bacteria to evade lysosomal destruction after entry in the cell, a known obstacle limiting this vector, are elucidated. Further, treatments that increase bacterial lysis so that the vector can release its transgene into the mammalian environment for expression will be discussed. These experiments will provide valuable new insight to advance this E. coli system as an important class of vector technology for genetic correction of human disease models in cells and whole animals. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=DNA" title="DNA">DNA</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=E.%20coli" title=" E. coli"> E. coli</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gene%20expression" title=" gene expression"> gene expression</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vector" title=" vector"> vector</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/45408/intracellular-strategies-for-gene-delivery-into-mammalian-cells-using-bacteria-as-a-vector" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/45408.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">358</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1099</span> Speed up Vector Median Filtering by Quasi Euclidean Norm</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vinai%20K.%20Singh">Vinai K. In multiband images as for example colour images or vector fields obtained by optic flow computation, a vector median filter can be used. We present an efficient adaptive array beamformer with robustness to deal with the considered problem. The robustness of the proposed beamformer comes from the efficient designation of the steering vector. Using the received array data vector, we construct an appropriate correlation matrix associated with the received array data vector and a correlation matrix associated with signal sources. Then, the eigenvector associated with the largest eigenvalue of the constructed signal correlation matrix is designated as an appropriate estimate of the steering vector. Finally, the adaptive weight vector required for adaptive beamforming is obtained by using the estimated steering vector and the constructed correlation matrix of the array data vector. Simulation results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=adaptive%20beamforming" title="adaptive beamforming">adaptive beamforming</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=antenna%20array" title=" antenna array"> antenna array</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=linearly%20constrained%20minimum%20variance" title=" linearly constrained minimum variance"> linearly constrained minimum variance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=robustness" title=" robustness"> robustness</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=steering%20vector" title=" steering vector"> steering vector</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/84543/efficient-antenna-array-beamforming-with-robustness-against-random-steering-mismatch" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/84543.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">199</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1097</span> Parallel Vector Processing Using Multi Level Orbital DATA</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nagi%20Mekhiel">Nagi Mekhiel</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Many applications use vector operations by applying single instruction to multiple data that map to different locations in conventional memory. The main algorithms are implemented in the associated programming language within Excel, Visual Basic for Applications (VBA). The BEM only requires a boundary mesh and hence it is a relatively accessible method. The BEM in the open spreadsheet environment is demonstrated as being useful as an aid to teaching and learning. The application of the BEM implemented on a spreadsheet for educational purposes in introductory vector calculus and simulation is explored. The development of assignment work is discussed, and sample results from student work are given. The spreadsheets were found to be useful tools in developing the students’ understanding of vector calculus and in simulating heat conduction. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=boundary%20element%20method" title="boundary element method">boundary element method</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Laplace%E2%80%99s%20equation" title=" Laplace’s equation"> Laplace’s equation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vector%20calculus" title=" vector calculus"> vector calculus</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=simulation" title=" simulation"> simulation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=education" title=" education"> education</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/95383/the-boundary-element-method-in-excel-for-teaching-vector-calculus-and-simulation" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/95383.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">163</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1090</span> Performance of Total Vector Error of an Estimated Phasor within Local Area Networks</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ahmed%20Abdolkhalig">Ahmed Abdolkhalig</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rastko%20Zivanovic"> Rastko Zivanovic</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper evaluates the Total Vector Error of an estimated Phasor as define in IEEE C37.118 standard within different medium access in Local Area Networks (LAN). The disadvantages of oEM are large size and limited efficiency at low and medium power applications. This paper describes multi-vector electric machine (mEM) based on multi-vector inductive coupling, which is characterized by the increased surface area of the inductive coupling per EM volume, with a reduced share of inefficient and energy-consuming part of the winding, in comparison with oEM&rsquo;s. Particularly, it is considered, calculated and compared the performance of three different electrical motors and their power at the same volumes and rotor frequencies. It is also presented the result of calculation of correlation between power density and volume for oEM and mEM. The method of multi-vector inductive coupling enables mEM to possess 1.5-4.0 greater density of power per volume and significantly higher efficiency, in comparison with today&rsquo;s oEM, especially in low and medium power applications. mEM has distinct advantages, when used in transport vehicles such as electric cars and aircrafts. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electric%20machine" title="electric machine">electric machine</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electric%20motor" title=" electric motor"> electric motor</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electromagnet" title=" electromagnet"> electromagnet</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=efficiency%20of%20electric%20motor" title=" efficiency of electric motor"> efficiency of electric motor</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/67282/volume-density-of-power-of-multivector-electric-machine" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/67282.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">338</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1088</span> Forecasting Regional Data Using Spatial Vars</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Taisiia%20Gorshkova">Taisiia Gorshkova</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Since the 1980s, spatial correlation models have been used more often to model regional indicators. An increasingly popular method for studying regional indicators is modeling taking into account spatial relationships between objects that are part of the same economic zone. In 2000s the new class of model – spatial vector autoregressions was developed. The main difference between standard and spatial vector autoregressions is that in the spatial VAR (SpVAR), the values of indicators at time t may depend on the values of explanatory variables at the same time t in neighboring regions and on the values of explanatory variables at time t-k in neighboring regions. Thus, VAR is a special case of SpVAR in the absence of spatial lags, and the spatial panel data model is a special case of spatial VAR in the absence of time lags. Two specifications of SpVAR were applied to Russian regional data for 2000-2017. The values of GRP and regional CPI are used as endogenous variables. The lags of GRP, CPI and the unemployment rate were used as explanatory variables. For comparison purposes, the standard VAR without spatial correlation was used as “naïve” model. In the first specification of SpVAR the unemployment rate and the values of depending variables, GRP and CPI, in neighboring regions at the same moment of time t were included in equations for GRP and CPI respectively. To account for the values of indicators in neighboring regions, the adjacency weight matrix is used, in which regions with a common sea or land border are assigned a value of 1, and the rest - 0. In the second specification the values of depending variables in neighboring regions at the moment of time t were replaced by these values in the previous time moment t-1. According to the results obtained, when inflation and GRP of neighbors are added into the model both inflation and GRP are significantly affected by their previous values, and inflation is also positively affected by an increase in unemployment in the previous period and negatively affected by an increase in GRP in the previous period, which corresponds to economic theory. GRP is not affected by either the inflation lag or the unemployment lag. When the model takes into account lagged values of GRP and inflation in neighboring regions, the results of inflation modeling are practically unchanged: all indicators except the unemployment lag are significant at a 5% significance level. For GRP, in turn, GRP lags in neighboring regions also become significant at a 5% significance level. For both spatial and “naïve” VARs the RMSE were calculated. The minimum RMSE are obtained via SpVAR with lagged explanatory variables. Thus, according to the results of the study, it can be concluded that SpVARs can accurately model both the actual values of macro indicators (particularly CPI and GRP) and the general situation in the regions <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=forecasting" title="forecasting">forecasting</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=regional%20data" title=" regional data"> regional data</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spatial%20econometrics" title=" spatial econometrics"> spatial econometrics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vector%20autoregression" title=" vector autoregression"> vector autoregression</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/122115/forecasting-regional-data-using-spatial-vars" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/122115.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">141</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1087</span> Support Vector Regression with Weighted Least Absolute Deviations</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kang-Mo%20Jung">Kang-Mo Jung</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Least squares support vector machine (LS-SVM) is a penalized regression which considers both fitting and generalization ability of a model. The Financial Stress Index for Egypt (FSIE) includes informative vulnerable indicators of the main financial sectors: the banking sector, the equities market, and the foreign exchange market. It is calculated on a monthly basis from 2010 to December 2022, so to report the two recent world’s most devastating financial crises: Covid 19 crisis and Ukraine-Russia War, in addition to the local 2016 and 2022 financial crises. We proceed first by a graphical analysis then by empirical analysis in running under Vector Autoregression (VAR) Model, dynamic causality tests between foreign reserves, dollarization rate, and FSIE. The graphical analysis shows that unexpectedly, Egypt’s economy seems to be immune to internal economic/political instabilities, however it is highly exposed to the foreign and exchange market. Empirical analysis confirms the graphical observations and proves that dollarization, or more precisely debt in foreign currency seems to be the main trigger of Egypt’s current financial crisis. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=egypt" title="egypt">egypt</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=financial%20crisis" title=" financial crisis"> financial crisis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=financial%20stress%20index" title=" financial stress index"> financial stress index</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dollarization" title=" dollarization"> dollarization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=VAR%20model" title=" VAR model"> VAR model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=causality%20tests" title=" causality tests"> causality tests</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/161475/behind-egypts-financial-crisis-dollarization" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/161475.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">93</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1083</span> Improving Cheon-Kim-Kim-Song (CKKS) Performance with Vector Computation and GPU Acceleration</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Smaran%20Manchala">Smaran Manchala</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Homomorphic Encryption (HE) enables computations on encrypted data without requiring decryption, mitigating data vulnerability during processing. Usable Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE) could revolutionize secure data operations across cloud computing, AI training, and healthcare, providing both privacy and functionality, however, the computational inefficiency of schemes like Cheon-Kim-Kim-Song (CKKS) hinders their widespread practical use. This study focuses on optimizing CKKS for faster matrix operations through the implementation of vector computation parallelization and GPU acceleration. The variable effects of vector parallelization on GPUs were explored, recognizing that while parallelization typically accelerates operations, it could introduce overhead that results in slower runtimes, especially in smaller, less computationally demanding operations. To assess performance, two neural network models, MLPN and CNN—were tested on the MNIST dataset using both ARM and x86-64 architectures, with CNN chosen for its higher computational demands. Each test was repeated 1,000 times, and outliers were removed via Z-score analysis to measure the effect of vector parallelization on CKKS performance. Model accuracy was also evaluated under CKKS encryption to ensure optimizations did not compromise results. According to the results of the trail runs, applying vector parallelization had a 2.63X efficiency increase overall with a 1.83X performance increase for x86-64 over ARM architecture. Overall, these results suggest that the application of vector parallelization in tandem with GPU acceleration significantly improves the efficiency of CKKS even while accounting for vector parallelization overhead, providing impact in future zero trust operations. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CKKS%20scheme" title="CKKS scheme">CKKS scheme</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=runtime%20efficiency" title=" runtime efficiency"> runtime efficiency</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fully%20homomorphic%20encryption%20%28FHE%29" title=" fully homomorphic encryption (FHE)"> fully homomorphic encryption (FHE)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=GPU%20acceleration" title=" GPU acceleration"> GPU acceleration</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vector%20parallelization" title=" vector parallelization"> vector parallelization</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/192456/improving-cheon-kim-kim-song-ckks-performance-with-vector-computation-and-gpu-acceleration" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/192456.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">23</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1082</span> Open-Loop Vector Control of Induction Motor with Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation Technique</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Karchung">Karchung</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=S.%20Ruangsinchaiwanich"> S. Normally, the closed loop speed control is preferred and is believed to be more accurate. However, it requires a position sensor to track the rotor position which is not desirable to use it for certain workspace applications. This paper exhibits the performance of three-phase induction motor with the simplest control algorithm without the use of a position sensor nor an estimation block to estimate rotor position for sensorless control. The motor stator currents are measured and are transformed to synchronously rotating (d-q-axis) frame by use of Clarke and Park transformation. The actual control happens in this frame where the measured currents are compared with the reference currents. The error signal is fed to a conventional PI controller, and the corrected d-q voltage is generated. The controller outputs are transformed back to three phase voltages and are fed to SVPWM block which generates PWM signal for the voltage source inverter. The open loop vector control model along with SVPWM algorithm is modeled in MATLAB/Simulink software and is experimented and validated in TMS320F28335 DSP board. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electric%20drive" title="electric drive">electric drive</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=induction%20motor" title=" induction motor"> induction motor</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=open-loop%20vector%20control" title=" open-loop vector control"> open-loop vector control</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=space%20vector%20pulse%20width%20modulation%20technique" title=" space vector pulse width modulation technique"> space vector pulse width modulation technique</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/105539/open-loop-vector-control-of-induction-motor-with-space-vector-pulse-width-modulation-technique" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/105539.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">147</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1081</span> Using New Machine Algorithms to Classify Iranian Musical Instruments According to Temporal, Spectral and Coefficient Features</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ronak%20Khosravi">Ronak Khosravi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mahmood%20Abbasi%20Layegh"> Mahmood Abbasi Layegh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Siamak%20Haghipour"> Siamak Haghipour</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Avin%20Esmaili"> Avin Esmaili</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this paper, a study on classification of musical woodwind instruments using a small set of features selected from a broad range of extracted ones by the sequential forward selection method was carried out. Firstly, we extract 42 features for each record in the music database of 402 sound files belonging to five different groups of Flutes (end blown and internal duct), Single –reed, Double –reed (exposed and capped), Triple reed and Quadruple reed. Then, the sequential forward selection method is adopted to choose the best feature set in order to achieve very high classification accuracy. Two different classification techniques of support vector machines and relevance vector machines have been tested out and an accuracy of up to 96% can be achieved by using 21 time, frequency and coefficient features and relevance vector machine with the Gaussian kernel function. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a
