However, whether this aging effect is significantly strong and it influences a lot on national defense spending due to the rapid increase in operating and support (O&S) costs is questionable. To figure out this, we conduct a literature review analyzing the aging effect of US weapon systems. We also conduct an empirical research using a maintenance database of Korean weapon systems, Defense Logistics Integrated Information System (DAIIS). We run regression of various types of O&S cost on weapon system age to investigate the statistical significance of aging effect and use generalized linear model to find relations between the failure of different priced components and the age. Our major finding is although aging effect exists, its impacts on weapon system cost seem to be not too large considering several characteristics of O&S cost elements not relying on the age. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=O%26S%20cost" title="O&S cost">O&S cost</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=aging%20effect" title=" aging effect"> aging effect</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=weapon%20system" title=" weapon system"> weapon system</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=GLM" title=" GLM"> GLM</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/121195/the-effects-of-aging-on-the-cost-of-operating-and-support-an-empirical-study-applied-to-weapon-systems" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/121195.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">142</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6017</span> Experimental Investigation and Constitutive Modeling of Volume Strain under Uniaxial Strain Rate Jump Test in HDPE</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rida%20B.%20Arieby">Rida B. The dependency of the true stress and specially the variation of volume strain have been investigated, the volume strain due to the phenomena of damage was determined in real time during the tests by an optical extensometer called Videotraction. A modified constitutive equations, including strain rate and damage effects, are proposed, such a model is based on a non-equilibrium thermodynamic approach called (DNLR). The ability of the model to predict the complex nonlinear response of this polymer is examined by comparing the model simulation with the available experimental data, which demonstrate that this model can represent the deformation behavior of the polymer reasonably well. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=strain%20rate%20jump%20tests" title="strain rate jump tests">strain rate jump tests</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=volume%20strain" title=" volume strain"> volume strain</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=high%20density%20polyethylene" title=" high density polyethylene"> high density polyethylene</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=large%20strain" title=" large strain"> large strain</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=thermodynamics%20approach" title=" thermodynamics approach"> thermodynamics approach</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/6857/experimental-investigation-and-constitutive-modeling-of-volume-strain-under-uniaxial-strain-rate-jump-test-in-hdpe" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/6857.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">258</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6016</span> Flexural Strength Design of RC Beams with Consideration of Strain Gradient Effect</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mantai%20Chen">Mantai Chen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Johnny%20Ching%20Ming%20Ho"> Johnny Ching Ming Ho</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The stress-strain relationship of concrete under flexure is one of the essential parameters in assessing ultimate flexural strength capacity of RC beams. Currently, the concrete stress-strain curve in flexure is obtained by incorporating a constant scale-down factor of 0.85 in the uniaxial stress-strain curve. However, it was revealed that strain gradient would improve the maximum concrete stress under flexure and concrete stress-strain curve is strain gradient dependent. Based on the strain-gradient-dependent concrete stress-strain curve, the investigation of the combined effects of strain gradient and concrete strength on flexural strength of RC beams was extended to high strength concrete up to 100 MPa by theoretical analysis. As an extension and application of the authors’ previous study, a new flexural strength design method incorporating the combined effects of strain gradient and concrete strength is developed. A set of equivalent rectangular concrete stress block parameters is proposed and applied to produce a series of design charts showing that the flexural strength of RC beams are improved with strain gradient effect considered. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=beams" title="beams">beams</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=equivalent%20concrete%20stress%20block" title=" equivalent concrete stress block"> equivalent concrete stress block</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=flexural%20strength" title=" flexural strength"> flexural strength</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=strain%20gradient" title=" strain gradient"> strain gradient</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/5486/flexural-strength-design-of-rc-beams-with-consideration-of-strain-gradient-effect" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/5486.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">447</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6015</span> Experimental Study of Sand-Silt Mixtures with Torsional and Flexural Resonant Column Tests</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Meghdad%20Payan">Meghdad Payan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kostas%20Senetakis"> Kostas Senetakis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Arman%20Khoshghalb"> Arman Khoshghalb</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nasser%20Khalili"> Nasser Khalili</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Dynamic properties of soils, especially at the range of very small strains, are of particular interest in geotechnical engineering practice for characterization of the behavior of geo-structures subjected to a variety of stress states. This study reports on the small-strain dynamic properties of sand-silt mixtures with particular emphasis on the effect of non-plastic fines content on the small strain shear modulus (Gmax), Young’s Modulus (Emax), material damping (Ds,min) and Poisson’s Ratio (v). Several clean sands with a wide range of grain size characteristics and particle shape are mixed with variable percentages of a silica non-plastic silt as fines content. Prepared specimens of sand-silt mixtures at different initial void ratios are subjected to sequential torsional and flexural resonant column tests with elastic dynamic properties measured along an isotropic stress path up to 800 kPa. It is shown that while at low percentages of fines content, there is a significant difference between the dynamic properties of the various samples due to the different characteristics of the sand portion of the mixtures, this variance diminishes as the fines content increases and the soil behavior becomes mainly silt-dominant, rendering no significant influence of sand properties on the elastic dynamic parameters. Indeed, beyond a specific portion of fines content, around 20% to 30% typically denoted as threshold fines content, silt is controlling the behavior of the mixture. Using the experimental results, new expressions for the prediction of small-strain dynamic properties of sand-silt mixtures are developed accounting for the percentage of silt and the characteristics of the sand portion. These expressions are general in nature and are capable of evaluating the elastic dynamic properties of sand-silt mixtures with any types of parent sand in the whole range of silt percentage. The inefficiency of skeleton void ratio concept in the estimation of small-strain stiffness of sand-silt mixtures is also illustrated. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=damping%20ratio" title="damping ratio">damping ratio</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Poisson%E2%80%99s%20ratio" title=" Poisson’s ratio"> Poisson’s ratio</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=resonant%20column" title=" resonant column"> resonant column</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sand-silt%20mixture" title=" sand-silt mixture"> sand-silt mixture</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=shear%20modulus" title=" shear modulus"> shear modulus</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Young%E2%80%99s%20modulus" title=" Young’s modulus"> Young’s modulus</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/75420/experimental-study-of-sand-silt-mixtures-with-torsional-and-flexural-resonant-column-tests" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/75420.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">250</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6014</span> The Role of Spiritual Experience, Gerotranscendence and Social Engagement on Successful Aging among Incarcerated Filipino Elderly: A Structural Equation Model</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Les%20Paul%20Valdez">Les Paul Valdez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rowena%20Manzarate"> Rowena Manzarate</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Joseph%20Carl%20Lunizo"> Joseph Carl Lunizo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mary%20Thereze%20Mabaquiao"> Mary Thereze Mabaquiao</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mary%20Deo%20Luigi%20Mabunay"> Mary Deo Luigi Mabunay</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Background: Across the literature, varying definitions of successful aging can be found. As a result, several determinants have been associated with successful aging. However, there is a paucity of literature exploring the relationship between successful aging and factors such as spiritual experience, gerotranscendence, and social engagement. Objective: Thus, this study purports to ascertain the relationship between and among spiritual experience, gerotranscendence, social engagement and successful aging. Methods: The Daily Spiritual Experience Scale (DSES), Social Engagement Scale (SES), Gerotranscendence Scale Revised (GS-R) and Expectations Regarding Aging (ERA) were fielded to 349 incarcerated elderly to measure spiritual experience, social engagement, gerotranscendence and successful aging respectively. Data was analyzed using Structural Equation Modelling through AMOS 21. The hypothesized model was evaluated using the goodness of fit and parsimony indices. Results: Social engagement (β= .179, p=.128) and spiritual experience (β= .375, p=.262) contribute to successful aging through the mediating effect of gerotranscendence (β= .973, p=.718). Conclusion: Today more than ever, healthcare providers in penal institutions are challenged to ensure that incarcerated elderly are socially and spiritually engaged; and have high levels of gerotranscendence. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=elderly" title="elderly">elderly</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Filipino" title=" Filipino"> Filipino</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gerotranscendence" title=" gerotranscendence"> gerotranscendence</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=social%20engagement" title=" social engagement"> social engagement</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spiritual%20experience" title=" spiritual experience"> spiritual experience</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=successful%20aging" title=" successful aging "> successful aging </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/46006/the-role-of-spiritual-experience-gerotranscendence-and-social-engagement-on-successful-aging-among-incarcerated-filipino-elderly-a-structural-equation-model" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/46006.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">522</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6013</span> Impact Tensile Mechanical Properties of 316L Stainless Steel at Different Strain Rates</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jiawei%20Chen">Jiawei Chen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jia%20Qu"> Jia Qu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dianwei%20Ju"> Dianwei Ju</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> 316L stainless steel has good mechanical and technological properties, has been widely used in shipbuilding and aerospace manufacturing. In order to understand the effect of strain rate on the yield limit of 316L stainless steel and the constitutive relationship of the materials at different strain rates, this paper used the INSTRON-4505 electronic universal testing machine to study the mechanical properties of the tensile specimen under quasi-static conditions. Meanwhile, the Zwick-Roell RKP450 intelligent oscillometric impact tester was used to test the tensile specimens at different strain rates. Through the above two kinds of experimental researches, the relationship between the true stress-strain and the engineering stress-strain at different strain rates is obtained. The result shows that the tensile yield point of 316L stainless steel increases with the increase of strain rate, and the real stress-strain curve of the 316L stainless steel has a better normalization than that of the engineering stress-strain curve. The real stress-strain curves can be used in the practical engineering of impact stretch to improve its safety. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=impact%20stretch" title="impact stretch">impact stretch</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=316L%20stainless%20steel" title=" 316L stainless steel"> 316L stainless steel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=strain%20rate" title=" strain rate"> strain rate</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=real%20stress-strain" title=" real stress-strain"> real stress-strain</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=normalization" title=" normalization"> normalization</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/88153/impact-tensile-mechanical-properties-of-316l-stainless-steel-at-different-strain-rates" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/88153.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">280</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6012</span> The Mechanical Response of a Composite Propellant under Harsh Conditions</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Xin%20Tong">Xin Tong</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jin-sheng%20Xu"> Jin-sheng Xu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Xiong%20Chen"> Xiong Chen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ya%20Zheng"> Ya Zheng</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The aim of this paper is to study the mechanical properties of HTPB (Hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene) composite propellant under harsh conditions. It describes two tests involving uniaxial tensile tests of various strain rates (ranging from 0.0005 s-1 to 1.5 s-1), temperatures (ranging from 223 K to 343 K) and high-cycle fatigue tests under low-temperature (223 K, frequencies were set at 50, 100, 150 Hz) using DMA (Dynamic Mechanical Analyzer). To highlight the effect of small pre-strain on fatigue properties of HTPB propellant, quasi-static stretching was carried out before fatigue loading, and uniaxial tensile tests at constant strain rates were successively applied. The results reveal that flow stress of propellant increases with reduction in temperature and rise in strain rate, and the strain rate-temperature equivalence relationship could be described by TTSP (time-temperature superposition principle) incorporating a modified WLF equation. Moreover, the rate of performance degradations and damage accumulation of propellant during fatigue tests increased with increasing strain amplitude and loading frequencies, while initial quasi-static loading has a negative effect on fatigue properties by comparing stress-strain relations after fatigue tests. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fatigue" title="fatigue">fatigue</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=HTPB%20propellant" title=" HTPB propellant"> HTPB propellant</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tensile%20properties" title=" tensile properties"> tensile properties</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=time-temperature%20superposition%20principle" title=" time-temperature superposition principle"> time-temperature superposition principle</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/70854/the-mechanical-response-of-a-composite-propellant-under-harsh-conditions" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/70854.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">294</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6011</span> The Microstructural Evolution of X45CrNiW189 Valve Steel during Hot Deformation</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=A.%20H.%20Meysami">A. It was found that the calculated results were in a good agreement with the experimental flow stress and microstructure of the steel for different conditions of hot deformation. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=X45CrNiW189" title="X45CrNiW189">X45CrNiW189</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=valve%20steel" title=" valve steel"> valve steel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hot%20compression%20test" title=" hot compression test"> hot compression test</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dynamic%20recrystallization" title=" dynamic recrystallization"> dynamic recrystallization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hot%20deformation" title=" hot deformation"> hot deformation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/10250/the-microstructural-evolution-of-x45crniw189-valve-steel-during-hot-deformation" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/10250.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">277</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6010</span> An Experimental Study of Dynamic Compressive Strength of Bushveld Complex Brittle Rocks under Impact Loadingsa Chemicals and Fibre Corporation, Changhua Branch</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=A.%20Mudau">A. These rocks were subjected to both quasi-static and impact loading tests to help understand their behaviour both under quasi-static and dynamic loading conditions. Unlike quasi-static tests, characterization of dynamic behaviour of materials is challenging, in particularly brittle rock materials. The split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) results reported for anorthosite and norite showed relatively low values for dynamic compressive strength compared to the quasi-static uniaxial compressive strength data. It was noticed that the dynamic stress conditions were not fully attained during testing, as well as constant strain rate. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bushveld%20Complex" title="Bushveld Complex">Bushveld Complex</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dynamic%20comperession" title=" dynamic comperession"> dynamic comperession</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=rock%20brittleness" title=" rock brittleness"> rock brittleness</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stress%20equilibrium" title=" stress equilibrium"> stress equilibrium</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/20596/an-experimental-study-of-dynamic-compressive-strength-of-bushveld-complex-brittle-rocks-under-impact-loadingsa-chemicals-and-fibre-corporation-changhua-branch" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/20596.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">499</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6009</span> Aging Among Older Immigrant Women</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Michele%20Charpentier">Michele Charpentier</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This article examines the experiences of aging of older immigrant women. The effect of pre-aging, aging treatment and 0.10 wt % copper addition on the hardening response was investigated using scanning calorimetry (DSC), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and Vickers microhardness measurements (Hv). The results reveal the apparition of α-AlFeSi, α-AlFe(Mn)Si type precipitates frequently present and witch remain stable at high temperature in Al-Mg-Si alloys. Indeed, the hardening response in both sheets is certainly due to the predominance of very fine typical phases β' and β'' as rods and needles developed during aging with and without pre-aging. The effect of pre ageing just after homogenization and quenching is to correct the undesirable effect of aging at ambient temperature by making faster alloy hardening during artificial aging. The addition of 0.10 wt % copper has allowed to refine and to enhance the precipitation hardening after quenching. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=AlMgSi%20alloys" title="AlMgSi alloys">AlMgSi alloys</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=precipitation" title=" precipitation"> precipitation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hardening" title=" hardening"> hardening</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=activation%20energy" title=" activation energy"> activation energy</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/166964/precipitation-and-age-hardening-in-al-mg-si-cu-alloys-for-automotive-body-sheet" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/166964.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">90</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6007</span> Spectral Response Measurements and Materials Analysis of Ageing Solar Photovoltaic Modules</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=T.%20H.%20Huang">T. In this study, the accelerated aging of different light sources was combined with spectral response measurements to understand the effect of light sources on aging tests. In this study, there are two types of experimental samples: packaged and unpackaged and then irradiated with full-spectrum and UVC light sources for accelerated aging, as well as a control group without aging. The full-spectrum aging was performed by irradiating the solar cell with a xenon lamp like the solar spectrum for two weeks, while the accelerated aging was performed by irradiating the solar cell with a UVC lamp for two weeks. The samples were first visually observed, and infrared thermal images were taken, and then the electrical (IV) and Spectral Responsivity (SR) data were obtained by measuring the spectral response of the samples, followed by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Raman spectroscopy (Raman), and X-ray Diffraction (XRD) analysis. The results of electrical (IV) and Spectral Responsivity (SR) and material analyses were used to compare the differences between packaged and unpackaged solar cells with full spectral aging, accelerated UVC aging, and unaged solar cells. The main objective of this study is to compare the difference in the aging of packaged and unpackaged solar cells by irradiating different light sources. We determined by infrared thermal imaging that both full-spectrum aging and UVC accelerated aging increase the defects of solar cells, and IV measurements demonstrated that the conversion efficiency of solar cells decreases after full-spectrum aging and UVC accelerated aging. SEM observed some scorch marks on both unpackaged UVC accelerated aging solar cells and unpackaged full-spectrum aging solar cells. Raman spectroscopy examines the Si intensity of solar cells, and XRD confirms the crystallinity of solar cells by the intensity of Si and Ag winding peaks. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=solar%20cell" title="solar cell">solar cell</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=aging" title=" aging"> aging</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spectral%20response%20measurement" title=" spectral response measurement"> spectral response measurement</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/150077/spectral-response-measurements-and-materials-analysis-of-ageing-solar-photovoltaic-modules" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/150077.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">103</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6006</span> The Thinking of Dynamic Formulation of Rock Aging Agent Driven by Data</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Longlong%20Zhang">Longlong Zhang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Xiaohua%20Zhu"> Xiaohua Zhu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ping%20Zhao"> Ping Zhao</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yu%20Wang"> Yu Wang</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The construction of mines, railways, highways, water conservancy projects, etc., have formed a large number of high steep slope wounds in China. Under the premise of slope stability and safety, the minimum cost, green and close to natural wound space repair, has become a new problem. Nowadays, in situ element testing and analysis, monitoring, field quantitative factor classification, and assignment evaluation will produce vast amounts of data. Data processing and analysis will inevitably differentiate the morphology, mineral composition, physicochemical properties between rock wounds, by which to dynamically match the appropriate techniques and materials for restoration. In the present research, based on the grid partition of the slope surface, tested the content of the combined oxide of rock mineral (SiO₂, CaO, MgO, Al₂O₃, Fe₃O₄, etc.), and classified and assigned values to the hardness and breakage of rock texture. The data of essential factors are interpolated and normalized in GIS, which formed the differential zoning map of slope space. According to the physical and chemical properties and spatial morphology of rocks in different zones, organic acids (plant waste fruit, fruit residue, etc.), natural mineral powder (zeolite, apatite, kaolin, etc.), water-retaining agent, and plant gum (melon powder) were mixed in different proportions to form rock aging agents. To spray the aging agent with different formulas on the slopes in different sections can affectively age the fresh rock wound, providing convenience for seed implantation, and reducing the transformation of heavy metals in the rocks. Through many practical engineering practices, a dynamic data platform of rock aging agent formula system is formed, which provides materials for the restoration of different slopes. It will also provide a guideline for the mixed-use of various natural materials to solve the complex, non-uniformity ecological restoration problem. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=data-driven" title="data-driven">data-driven</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dynamic%20state" title=" dynamic state"> dynamic state</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=high%20steep%20slope" title=" high steep slope"> high steep slope</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=rock%20aging%20agent" title=" rock aging agent"> rock aging agent</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wounds" title=" wounds"> wounds</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/130524/the-thinking-of-dynamic-formulation-of-rock-aging-agent-driven-by-data" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/130524.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">115</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6005</span> Effect of Density on the Shear Modulus and Damping Ratio of Saturated Sand in Small Strain</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=M.%20Kakavand">M. This paper presents the effect of density on the shear modulus and damping ratio of saturated clean sand at various isotropic confining pressures. For this purpose, the specimens were compared with two different relative densities, loose Dr = 30% and dense Dr = 70%. Dynamic parameters were attained from a series of consolidated undrained fixed – free type torsional resonant column tests in small strain. Sand No. 161 is selected for this paper. The experiments show that by increasing sand density and confining pressure, the shear modulus increases and the damping ratio decreases. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dynamic%20properties" title="dynamic properties">dynamic properties</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=shear%20modulus" title=" shear modulus"> shear modulus</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=damping%20ratio" title=" damping ratio"> damping ratio</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=clean%20sand" title=" clean sand"> clean sand</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=density" title=" density"> density</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=confining%20pressure" title=" confining pressure"> confining pressure</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=resonant%20column%2Ftorsional%20simple%20shear" title=" resonant column/torsional simple shear"> resonant column/torsional simple shear</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=TSS" title=" TSS"> TSS</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/111345/effect-of-density-on-the-shear-modulus-and-damping-ratio-of-saturated-sand-in-small-strain" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/111345.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">122</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6004</span> Using Finite Element to Predict Failure of Light Weight Bridges Due to Vehicles Impact: Case Study</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Amin%20H.%20Almasria">Amin H. Typical bridge widely used in Jordan is studied and modeled under truck collision using one dimensional beam finite element in order to minimize analysis time due to the dynamic nature of the problem. Truck collision with the bridge is simulated at different speeds and locations of collisions using dynamic explicit finite element scheme with material nonlinearity taken into account. Energy absorption of bridge is investigated through principle of energy conservation, where truck kinetic energy is assumed to be stored in the bridge as strain energy. Weak failure points in the bridges were identified, and modifications are proposed in order to strengthen the bridge structure and prevent total collapse. The proposed design modifications on bridge structure were successful in allowing the bridge to fail locally rather than globally and expected to help in saving lives. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=finite%20element%20method" title="finite element method">finite element method</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dynamic%20impact" title=" dynamic impact"> dynamic impact</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pedestrian%20bridges" title=" pedestrian bridges"> pedestrian bridges</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=strain%20energy" title=" strain energy"> strain energy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=collapse%20failure" title=" collapse failure"> collapse failure</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/20714/using-finite-element-to-predict-failure-of-light-weight-bridges-due-to-vehicles-impact-case-study" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/20714.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">624</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6003</span> Reinforcement Effect on Dynamic Properties of Saturated Sand</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=R.%20Ziaie%20Moayed">R. The constitutive relation of Johnson-Cook is used to capture the strain rate sensitivity and thermal softening effect in AlSi10Mg alloy. Johnson-Cook failure model is widely used for exploring damage mechanics and predicting the fracture in many materials. In this present work, Johnson-Cook material and damage model parameters for additively manufactured AlSi10Mg alloy have been determined numerically from four types of uniaxial tensile test. Three different uniaxial tensile tests with dynamic strain rates (0.1, 1, 10, 50, and 100 s-1) and elevated temperature tensile test with three different temperature conditions (450 K, 500 K and 550 K) were performed on 3D printed AlSi10Mg alloy in ABAQUS/Explicit. Hexahedral elements are used to discretize tensile specimens and fracture energy value of 43.6 kN/m was used for damage initiation. Levenberg Marquardt optimization method was used for the evaluation of Johnson-Cook model parameters. It was observed that additively manufactured AlSi10Mg alloy has shown relatively higher strain rate sensitivity and lower thermal stability as compared to the other Al alloys. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ABAQUS" title="ABAQUS">ABAQUS</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=additive%20manufacturing" title=" additive manufacturing"> additive manufacturing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=AlSi10Mg" title=" AlSi10Mg"> AlSi10Mg</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Johnson-Cook%20model" title=" Johnson-Cook model"> Johnson-Cook model</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/129677/numerical-simulation-on-deformation-behaviour-of-additively-manufactured-alsi10mg-alloy" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/129677.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">170</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6001</span> Does Exercise Training Moderate the Effects of Ageing on Health</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Elizabeth%20A.%20Haruna">Elizabeth A. There has been a general acknowledgement of its importance to major public health and elite performance outcomes. There are many questions unanswered about the mechanisms of effects and dose-response changes. An attempt has been made in this paper to highlight potentially positive effects of regular training on the aging process and its effects on health. Age associated decline in health and performance results from the combination of the aging process itself, inactive lifestyle and primary diseases. An attempt is made in this paper to critically review what is known and what is unknown about evidence based changes, common to disuse and aging. Mechanisms responsible for the slowing decline in muscle mass and muscle force (sarcopenia) down of age – associated, weakness and fatigability due to year round athletic training have been discussed. It is in this regard we have attempted to share our views on advances made so far in understanding the impact of aging on health. We also attempted to explain how the biological effects of aging are minimized during appropriate year round athletic training. On the basis of available research evidence it was concluded that exercise training significantly slow down the deleterious effects of aging on health. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=aging" title="aging">aging</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=atrophy" title=" atrophy"> atrophy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sarcopenia" title=" sarcopenia"> sarcopenia</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=plyometric%20training" title=" plyometric training"> plyometric training</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/31160/does-exercise-training-moderate-the-effects-of-ageing-on-health" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/31160.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">415</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6000</span> Effect of Be, Zr, and Heat Treatment on Mechanical Behavior of Cast Al-Mg-Zn-Cu Alloys (7075)</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mahmoud%20M.%20Tash">Mahmoud M. Ultimate tensile strength, 0.5% offset yield strength and % elongation measurements were carried out on specimens prepared from cast and heat treated 7075 alloys containing Be and/or Zr. Different aging treatment were carried out for the as solution treated (SHT) specimens. The specimens were aged at different conditions; Natural and artificial aging was carried out at room temperature, 120C, 150C, 180C and 220C for different periods of time. Duplex aging was performed for SHT conditions (pre-aged at different time and temperature followed by high temperature aging). Ultimate tensile strength, yield strength and % elongation data results as a function of different aging parameters are analysed. A statistical design of experiments (DOE) approach using fractional factorial design is applied to acquire an understanding of the effects of these variables and their interactions on the mechanical properties of Be- and/or Zr- treated 7075 alloys. Mathematical models are developed to relate the alloy mechanical properties with the different aging parameters. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=casting%20aging%20treatment" title="casting aging treatment">casting aging treatment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mechanical%20properties" title=" mechanical properties"> mechanical properties</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Al-Mg-Zn%20alloys" title=" Al-Mg-Zn alloys"> Al-Mg-Zn alloys</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Be-%20and%2For%20Zr-treatment" title=" Be- and/or Zr-treatment"> Be- and/or Zr-treatment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=experimental%20correlation" title=" experimental correlation"> experimental correlation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/21737/effect-of-be-zr-and-heat-treatment-on-mechanical-behavior-of-cast-al-mg-zn-cu-alloys-7075" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/21737.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">364</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">5999</span> Innovations in Healthy and Active Aging: A Case Study of "Aging in Place" in Northern California</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lisa%20Handwerker">Lisa Handwerker</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Using a Medical Anthropological lens, the paper will explore ideas elated to "aging in place" among Northern Californian older adults. For improving mechanical properties, foremost, superelasticity behavior, heat treatment process is carried out. In this paper, two different heat treatment methods were undertaken: (1) solid solution, and (2) aging. The effect of each treatment in a constant time is investigated. Five samples were prepared to study the structure and optimize mechanical properties under different time and temperature. For measuring the upper plateau stress, lower plateau stress and residual strain, tensile test is carried out. The samples were aged at two different temperatures to see difference between aging temperatures. The sample aged at 500 °C has a bigger crystallite size and lower amount of Ni which causes the mentioned sample to possess poor pseudo elasticity behaviour than the other aged sample. The sample aged at 460 °C has shown remarkable superelastic properties. The mentioned sample’s higher plateau is 580 MPa with the lowest residual strain (0.17%) while other samples have possessed higher residual strains. X-ray diffraction was used to investigate the produced phases. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=heat%20treatment" title="heat treatment">heat treatment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=phase%20transformation" title=" phase transformation"> phase transformation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=superelasticity" title=" superelasticity"> superelasticity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=NiTi%20alloy" title=" NiTi alloy"> NiTi alloy</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/113314/experimental-investigation-on-effect-of-different-heat-treatments-on-phase-transformation-and-superelasticity-of-niti-alloy" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/113314.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">130</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">5997</span> Behaviour of Polypropylene Fiber Reinforced Concrete under Dynamic Impact Loads</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Masoud%20Abedini">Masoud Abedini</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Azrul%20A.%20Mutalib"> Azrul A. This paper presents a polypropylene (PP) fibre was added into concrete to study the dynamic response under impact load. References related to dynamic impact test for sample polypropylene fibre reinforced concrete (PPFRC) is very limited and there is no specific research and information related to this research. Therefore, the study on the dynamic impact of PPFRC using a Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar (SHPB) was done in this study. Provided samples for this study was composed of 1.0 kg/m³ PP fibres, 2.0 kg/m³ PP fibres and plain concrete as a control samples. This PP fibre contains twisted bundle non-fibrillating monofilament and fibrillating network fibres. Samples were prepared by cylindrical mould with three samples of each mix proportion, 28 days curing period and concrete grade 35 Mpa. These samples are then tested for dynamic impact by SHPB at 2 Mpa pressure under the strain rate of 10 s-1. Dynamic compressive strength results showed an increase of SC1 and SC2 samples than the control sample which is 13.22 % and 76.9 % respectively with the dynamic compressive strength of 74.5 MPa and 116.4 MPa compared to 65.8 MPa. Dynamic increased factor (DIF) shows that, sample SC2 gives higher value with 4.15 than others samples SC1 and SC3 that gives the value of 2.14 and 1.97 respectively. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=polypropylene%20fiber" title="polypropylene fiber">polypropylene fiber</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Split%20Hopkinson%20Pressure%20Bar" title=" Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar"> Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=impact%20load" title=" impact load"> impact load</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dynamic%20compressive%20strength" title=" dynamic compressive strength"> dynamic compressive strength</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/3263/behaviour-of-polypropylene-fiber-reinforced-concrete-under-dynamic-impact-loads" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/3263.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">550</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">5996</span> Germination and Seed Vigor Response of Five Wheat Cultivars to Stress of Premature Aging Effects</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mehdi%20Soltani%20Howyzeh">Mehdi Soltani Howyzeh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Neda%20Kardoni"> Neda Kardoni</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mani%20Mojadam"> Mani Mojadam</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> To evaluate the vigor of wheat seeds and stress of premature aging effects on germination percentage, root length and shoot length of five wheat cultivars that include Vynak, Karkheh, Chamran, Star and Kavir which underwent a period of zero, two, three, four days in terms of premature aging with 41 °C temperature and 100% relative humidity. These are materials designated as standard SMC, Advanced Sheet Molding Compounds (A-SMC), Low-Density SMC (LD-SMC) and etc. In this study, testing methods have been performed to compare the mechanical responses and damage phenomena of SMC, LD-SMC, and A-SMC under quasi-static and high strain rate tensile tests. The paper also aims at investigating the effect of an initial pre-damage induced by fatigue on the tensile dynamic behavior of A-SMC. In the case of SMCs and A-SMCs, whatever the fibers orientation and applied strain rate are, the first observed phenomenon of damage corresponds to decohesion of the fiber-matrix interface which is followed by coalescence and multiplication of these micro-cracks and their propagations. For LD-SMCs, damage mechanisms depend on the presence of Hollow Glass Microspheres (HGM) and fibers orientation. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=SMC" title="SMC">SMC</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sheet%20Molding%20Compound" title=" Sheet Molding Compound"> Sheet Molding Compound</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=LD-SMC" title=" LD-SMC"> LD-SMC</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Low-Density%20SMC" title=" Low-Density SMC"> Low-Density SMC</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=A-SMC" title=" A-SMC"> A-SMC</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Advanced%20Sheet%20Molding%20Compounds" title=" Advanced Sheet Molding Compounds"> Advanced Sheet Molding Compounds</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=HGM" title=" HGM"> HGM</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hollow%20Glass%20Microspheres" title=" Hollow Glass Microspheres"> Hollow Glass Microspheres</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=damage" title=" damage"> damage</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/100208/multi-scale-damage-and-mechanical-behavior-of-sheet-molding-compound-composites-subjected-to-fatigue-dynamic-and-post-fatigue-dynamic-loadings" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/100208.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">211</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">5993</span> Development of a Highly Flexible, Sensitive and Stretchable Polymer Nanocomposite for Strain Sensing </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shaghayegh%20Shajari">Shaghayegh Shajari</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mehdi%20Mahmoodi"> Mehdi Mahmoodi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mahmood%20Rajabian"> Mahmood Rajabian</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Uttandaraman%20Sundararaj"> Uttandaraman Sundararaj</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Les%20J.%20Sudak"> Les J. Highly stretchable and sensitive strain sensors are in great demand for human motion monitoring and human-machine interface. This paper reports the fabrication and characterization of a new type of strain sensors based on a stretchable fluoropolymer / CNT nanocomposite system made via melt-mixing technique. Electrical and mechanical characterizations were obtained. The results showed that this nanocomposite sensor has high stretchability up to 280% of strain at an optimum level of filler concentration. The piezoresistive properties and the strain sensing mechanism of the strain sensor were investigated using Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS). High sensitivity was obtained (gauge factor as large as 12000 under 120% applied strain) in particular at the concentrations above the percolation threshold. Due to the tunneling effect, a non- linear piezoresistivity was observed at high concentrations of CNT loading. The nanocomposites with good conductivity and lightweight could be a promising candidate for strain sensing applications. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=carbon%20nanotubes" title="carbon nanotubes">carbon nanotubes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fluoropolymer" title=" fluoropolymer"> fluoropolymer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=piezoresistive" title=" piezoresistive"> piezoresistive</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=strain%20sensor" title=" strain sensor"> strain sensor</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/87421/development-of-a-highly-flexible-sensitive-and-stretchable-polymer-nanocomposite-for-strain-sensing" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/87421.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">296</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">5992</span> The Strategies to Improve the Pedestrian System in the Context of Old Aging</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yuxiao%20Jiang">Yuxiao Jiang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dong%20Ma"> Dong Ma</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mengyu%20Zhan"> Mengyu Zhan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yingxia%20Yun"> Yingxia Yun</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> China now is entering the phase of old aging and the aging speed is on acceleration. Thus, the paper proposes strategies in the areas of planning and design, and engineering technology so as to promote the traffic environment and perfect the pedestrian system for the old people. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=old%20aging" title="old aging">old aging</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pedestrian%20system" title=" pedestrian system"> pedestrian system</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=perfection%20strategies" title=" perfection strategies"> perfection strategies</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=travel%20characteristics" title=" travel characteristics"> travel characteristics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=future%20demand" title=" future demand"> future demand</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/60460/the-strategies-to-improve-the-pedestrian-system-in-the-context-of-old-aging" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/60460.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">394</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">5991</span> Electro-Discharge Drilling in Residual Stress Measurement of Annealed St.37 Steel</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=H.%20Gholami">H. Recently, the Libyan poultry industry faced severe outbreak of respiratory distress associated with high mortality and dramatic drop in egg production. Tracheal and cloacal swabs were analyzed for several poultry viruses. IBV was detected using SYBR Green I real-time PCR detection based on the nucleocapsid (N) gene. Sequence analysis of the partial N gene indicated high similarity (~ 94%) to IBV strain 3382/06 that was isolated from Taiwan. Even though the IBV strain 3382/06 is more similar to that of the Mass type H120, the isolate has been implicated associated with intertypic recombinant of 3 putative parental IBV strains namely H120, Taiwan strain 1171/92 and China strain CK/CH/LDL/97I. Complete sequencing and antigenicity studies of the Libya IBV strains are currently underway to determine the evolution of the virus and its importance in vaccine induced immunity. In this paper, we documented for the first time the presence of possibly variant IBV strain from Libya which required a dramatic change in the vaccination program. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Libya" title="Libya">Libya</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=infectious%20bronchitis" title=" infectious bronchitis"> infectious bronchitis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=molecular%20characterization" title=" molecular characterization"> molecular characterization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=viruses" title=" viruses"> viruses</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vaccine" title=" vaccine "> vaccine </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/3241/molecular-detection-and-characterization-of-infectious-bronchitis-virus-from-libya" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/3241.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">470</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">5989</span> Accelerated Aging of Photopolymeric Material Used in Flexography </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=S.%20Mahovic%20Poljacek">S. Since the basis process for production of printing plates from the PhPM is a radical cross-linking process caused by exposing to UV wavelengths, the assumption was that improper storage or irregular handling of the PhPM plate can change the surface and structure characteristics of the plates. Results have shown that the aging process causes degradation in the structure and changes in the surface of the PhPM printing plate. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a
