From them I also<MG2532> received<MG1209> letters<MG1992> to the brothers<MG80>, and started<MG4198> off for Damascus<MG1154> in order to bring<MG71> even<MG2532> those<MG3588> who were there<MG1566> to Jerusalem<MG2419> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>as prisoners<MG1210> to be punished<MG5097>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/22-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>“But it happened<MG1096> that as I was<MG4198> on<MG4198> my way<MG4198>, approaching<MG1448> Damascus<MG1154> at about<MG4012> noon<MG3314>, a very<MG2425> bright<MG2425> light<MG5457> suddenly<MG1810> flashed<MG4015b> from heaven<MG3772> all<MG4015b> around<MG4015b> me, <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/22-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>and I fell<MG4098> to the ground<MG1475> and heard<MG191> a voice<MG5456> saying<MG3004> to me, ‘Saul<MG4549>, Saul<MG4549>, why<MG5101> are you persecuting<MG1377> Me?’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/22-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>And I answered<MG611>, ‘Who<MG5101> are You, Lord<MG2962>?’ And He said<MG3004> to me, ‘I am<MG1510> Jesus<MG2424> the Nazarene<MG3480>, whom<MG3739> you are persecuting<MG1377>.’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/22-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>And those<MG3588> who<MG5101> were with me saw<MG2300> the light<MG5457>, but did not <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>understand<MG191> the voice<MG5456> of the One who was speaking<MG2980> to me. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/22-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>And I said<MG3004>, ‘What<MG5101> shall I do<MG4160>, Lord<MG2962>?’ And the Lord<MG2962> said<MG3004> to me, ‘Get<MG450> up<MG450> and go<MG4198> on<MG4198> into Damascus<MG1154>, and there<MG2546> you will be told<MG2980> about<MG4012> everything<MG3956> that has been appointed<MG5021> for you to do<MG4160>.’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/22-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>But since<MG5613> I could not see<MG1689> because<MG575> of the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>brightness<MG1391> of that light<MG5457>, I came<MG2064> into Damascus<MG1154> being led<MG5496> by<MG5496> the<MG5496> hand<MG5496> by those<MG3588> who were with me. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/22-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>“Now<MG1161> a certain<MG5100> Ananias<MG367>, a man<MG435> who was devout<MG2126> by the standard<MG3358> of the Law<MG3551> <i>and</i> well<MG3140> spoken<MG3140> of by all<MG3956> the Jews<MG2453> who lived<MG2730> <i>there,</i> <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/22-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>came<MG2064> to me, and standing<MG2186> nearby<MG2186> he said<MG3004> to me, ‘Brother<MG80> Saul<MG4549>, receive<MG308> your sight<MG308>!’ And <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>at that very<MG846> moment<MG5610> I looked<MG308> up<MG308> at him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/22-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>And he said<MG3004>, ‘The God<MG2316> of our fathers<MG3962> has appointed<MG4400> you to know<MG1097> His will<MG2307> and to see<MG3708> the Righteous<MG1342> One<MG1342> and to hear<MG191> a <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>message<MG5456> from His mouth<MG4750>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/22-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>For you will be a witness<MG3144> for Him to all<MG3956> people<MG444> of what<MG3739> you have seen<MG3708> and heard<MG191>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/22-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>Now<MG3568> why<MG5101> do you delay<MG3195>? Get<MG450> up<MG450> and be<MG907> baptized<MG907>, and wash<MG628> away<MG628> your sins<MG266> by calling<MG1941> on<MG1941> His name<MG3686>.’ <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/22-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>“It happened<MG1096> when I returned<MG5290> to Jerusalem<MG2419> and was praying<MG4336> in the temple<MG2413>, that I fell<MG1096> into a trance<MG1611>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/22-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>and I saw<MG3708> Him saying<MG3004> to me, ‘Hurry<MG4692> and get<MG1831> out<MG1831> of Jerusalem<MG2419> quickly<MG5034>, because<MG1360> they will not accept<MG3858> your testimony<MG3141> about<MG4012> Me.’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/22-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>And I said<MG3004>, ‘Lord<MG2962>, they themselves<MG846> understand<MG1987> that in one synagogue<MG4864> after<MG2596> another<MG2596> I used to imprison<MG5439> and beat<MG1194> those<MG3588> who believed<MG4100> in You. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/22-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>And when<MG3753> the blood<MG129> of Your witness<MG3144> Stephen<MG4736> was being shed<MG1632b>, I also<MG2532> was standing<MG2186> nearby<MG2186> and approving<MG4909>, and watching<MG5442> over<MG5442> the cloaks<MG2440> of those<MG3588> who were killing<MG337> him.’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/22-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>And He said<MG3004> to me, ‘Go<MG4198>! For I will send<MG1821> you far<MG3112> away<MG1821> to the Gentiles<MG1484>.’” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/22-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>They listened<MG191> to him up to this<MG3778> statement<MG3056>, and <i>then</i> they raised<MG1869> their voices<MG5456> and said<MG3004>, “Away<MG142> with such<MG5108> a man<MG5108> from the earth<MG1093>, for he should<MG2520> not be<MG2520> allowed<MG2520> to live<MG2198>!” <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/22-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>And as they were shouting<MG2905> and throwing<MG4496> off<MG4496> their cloaks<MG2440> and tossing<MG906> dust<MG2868> into the air<MG109>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/22-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>the commander<MG5506> ordered<MG2753> that he be brought<MG1521> into the barracks<MG3925b>, saying<MG3004> that he was to be interrogated<MG426> by flogging<MG3148> so<MG2443> that<MG2443> he would find<MG1921> out<MG1921> the reason<MG156> why<MG1223, 3739> they were shouting<MG2019> against him that<MG3779> way<MG3779>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/22-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>But when<MG5613> they stretched<MG4385> him out<MG4385> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>with straps<MG2438>, Paul<MG3972> said<MG3004> to the centurion<MG1543> who was standing<MG2476> by, “Is it <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>lawful<MG1832> for you to flog<MG3147> a man<MG444> who is a Roman<MG4514> and uncondemned<MG178>?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/22-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>When the centurion<MG1543> heard<MG191> <i>this,</i> he went<MG4334> to the commander<MG5506> and told<MG518> <i>him,</i> saying<MG3004>, “What<MG5101> are<MG3195> you about<MG3195> to<MG3195> do<MG4160>?
