and no<MG3762> one<MG3762> was able<MG1410> to bind<MG1210> him anymore<MG3765>, not even<MG3761> with a chain<MG254>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>because<MG1223> he had often<MG4178> been bound<MG1210> with shackles<MG3976> and chains<MG254>, and the chains<MG254> had been torn<MG1288> apart<MG1288> by him and the shackles<MG3976> broken<MG4937> in<MG4937> pieces<MG4937>; and no<MG3762> one<MG3762> was<MG2480> strong<MG2480> enough<MG2480> to subdue<MG1150> him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>Constantly<MG1223>, night<MG3571> and day<MG2250>, he was screaming<MG2896> among<MG1722> the tombs<MG3418> and in the mountains<MG3735>, and cutting<MG2629> himself<MG1438> with stones<MG3037>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>Seeing<MG3708> Jesus<MG2424> from a distance<MG3113>, he ran<MG5143> up and bowed<MG4352> down<MG4352> before<MG4352> Him; <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>and shouting<MG2896> with a loud<MG3173> voice<MG5456>, he *said<MG3004>, “<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[a]</a></span>What<MG5101> business do You have with me, Jesus<MG2424>, Son<MG5207> of the Most<MG5310> High<MG5310> God<MG2316>? I implore<MG3726> You by God<MG2316>, do not torment<MG928> me!” <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>For He had <i>already</i> been saying<MG3004> to him, “Come<MG1831> out<MG1831> of the man<MG444>, you unclean<MG169> spirit<MG4151>!” <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>And He was asking<MG1905> him, “What<MG5101> is your name<MG3686>?” And he *said<MG3004> to Him, “My name<MG3686> is Legion<MG3003>, for we are many<MG4183>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>And he begged<MG3870> Him earnestly<MG4183> not to send<MG649> them out<MG649> of the region<MG5561>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>Now<MG1161> there was a large<MG3173> herd<MG34> of pigs<MG5519> feeding<MG1006> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>nearby<MG1563> on the mountain<MG3735>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>And <i>the demons</i> begged<MG3870> Him, saying<MG3004>, “Send<MG3992> us into the pigs<MG5519> so<MG2443> that<MG2443> we may enter<MG1525> them.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span><i>Jesus</i> gave<MG2010> them permission<MG2010>. And coming<MG1831> out<MG1831>, the unclean<MG169> spirits<MG4151> entered<MG1525> the pigs<MG5519>; and the herd<MG34> rushed<MG3729> down<MG2596> the steep<MG2911> bank<MG2911> into the sea<MG2281>, about<MG5613> two<MG1367> thousand<MG1367> <i>of them;</i> and they were drowned<MG4155> in the sea<MG2281>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>Their herdsmen<MG1006> ran<MG5343> away<MG5343> and reported<MG518> <i>it</i> in the city<MG4172> and in the countryside<MG68>. And <i>the people</i> came<MG2064> to see<MG3708> what<MG5101> it was that had happened<MG1096>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>And <i>then</i> they *came<MG2064> to Jesus<MG2424> and *saw<MG2334> the man who had been demon-possessed<MG1139> sitting<MG2521> down<MG2521>, clothed<MG2439> and in his right<MG4993> mind<MG4993>, the <i>very</i> man who had <i>previously</i> had<MG2192> the “legion<MG3003>”; and they became<MG5399> frightened<MG5399>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>Those<MG3588> who had seen<MG3708> <i>it</i> described<MG1334> to them how<MG4459> it had happened<MG1096> to the demon-possessed<MG1139> man, and <i>all</i> about<MG4012> the pigs<MG5519>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>And they began<MG757> to beg<MG3870> Him to leave<MG565> their region<MG3725>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>And as He was getting<MG1684> into the boat<MG4143>, the man who had been demon-possessed<MG1139> was begging<MG3870> Him that he might <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>accompany<MG3326, 1510> Him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>And He did not let<MG863> him, but He *said<MG3004> to him, “Go<MG5217> home<MG3624> to your people<MG4674> and report<MG518> to them <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>what<MG3745> great<MG3745> things<MG3745> the Lord<MG2962> has done<MG4160> for you, and <i>how</i> He had<MG1653> mercy<MG1653> on you.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>And he went<MG565> away<MG565> and began<MG757> to proclaim<MG2784> in Decapolis<MG1179> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>what<MG3745> great<MG3745> things<MG3745> Jesus<MG2424> had done<MG4160> for him; and everyone<MG3956> was<MG2296> amazed<MG2296>. <p class="hdg">Miracles and Healing</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>When Jesus<MG2424> had crossed<MG1276> over<MG1276> again<MG3825> in the boat<MG4143> to the other<MG4008> side<MG4008>, a large<MG4183> crowd<MG3793> gathered<MG4863> around<MG1909> Him; and He <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>stayed<MG1510> by the seashore<MG2281>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>And one<MG1520> of the synagogue<MG752> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>officials<MG752>, named<MG3686> Jairus<MG2383>, *came<MG2064>, and upon seeing<MG3708> Him, *fell<MG4098> at His feet<MG4228> <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>and *pleaded<MG3870> with Him earnestly<MG4183>, saying<MG3004>, “My little<MG2365> daughter<MG2365> is at<MG2079> the<MG2079> point<MG2079> of<MG2079> death<MG2079>; <i>please</i> come<MG2064> and lay<MG2007> Your hands<MG5495> on<MG2007> her, so<MG2443> that<MG2443> she will <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>get<MG4982> well<MG4982> and live<MG2198>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>And He went<MG565> off<MG565> with him; and a large<MG4183> crowd<MG3793> was following<MG190> Him and pressing<MG4918> in on Him. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>A woman<MG1135> who had had<MG1510> a hemorrhage<MG4511, 129> for twelve<MG1427> years<MG2094>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>and had endured<MG3958> much<MG4183> at<MG5259> the hands<MG5259> of many<MG4183> physicians<MG2395>, and had spent<MG1159> all<MG3956> that she had<MG3844> and was not helped<MG5623> at<MG3367> all<MG3367>, but instead<MG3123> had become<MG2064> worse<MG5501>— <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>after hearing<MG191> about<MG4012> Jesus<MG2424>, she came<MG2064> up<MG2064> in the crowd<MG3793> behind<MG3693> <i>Him</i> and touched<MG681> His <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>cloak<MG2440>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>For she had been saying<MG3004> <i>to herself,</i> “If<MG1437> I just<MG2579> touch<MG681> His garments<MG2440>, I will <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>get<MG4982> well<MG4982>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>And immediately<MG2117> the flow<MG4077> of her blood<MG129> was dried<MG3583> up; and she felt<MG1097> in her body<MG4983> that she was healed<MG2390> of her disease<MG3148>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>And immediately<MG2117> Jesus<MG2424>, perceiving<MG1921> in Himself<MG1438> that power<MG1411> from Him had gone<MG1831> out<MG1831>, turned<MG1994> around<MG1994> in the crowd<MG3793> and said<MG3004>, “Who<MG5101> touched<MG681> My garments<MG2440>?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>And His disciples<MG3101> said<MG3004> to Him, “You see<MG991> the crowd<MG3793> pressing<MG4918> in on You, and You say<MG3004>, ‘Who<MG5101> touched<MG681> Me?’” <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>And He looked<MG4017> around<MG4017> to see<MG3708> the woman who had done<MG4160> this<MG3778>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>But the woman<MG1135>, fearing<MG5399> and trembling<MG5141>, aware<MG3609a> of what<MG3739> had happened<MG1096> to her, came<MG2064> and fell<MG4363> down<MG4363> before<MG4363> Him and told<MG3004> Him the whole<MG3956> truth<MG225>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>And He said<MG3004> to her, “Daughter<MG2364>, your faith<MG4102> has <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>made<MG4982> you well<MG4982>; go<MG5217> in peace<MG1515> and be cured<MG5199> of your disease<MG3148>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-35.htm"><b>35</b></a></span>While He was still<MG2089> speaking<MG2980>, <i>people</i> *came<MG2064> from <i>the house of</i> the synagogue<MG752> official<MG752>, saying<MG3004>, “Your daughter<MG2364> has died<MG599>; why<MG5101> bother<MG4660> the Teacher<MG1320> further<MG2089>?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-36.htm"><b>36</b></a></span>But Jesus<MG2424>, overhearing<MG3878> what<MG3588, 3056> was being spoken<MG2980>, *said<MG3004> to the synagogue<MG752> official<MG752>, “Do not be<MG5399> afraid<MG5399>, only<MG3440> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>believe<MG4100>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-37.htm"><b>37</b></a></span>And He allowed<MG863> no<MG3756, 3762> one<MG3762> to accompany<MG4870> Him except<MG1508> Peter<MG4074>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>James<MG2385>, and John<MG2491> the brother<MG80> of <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>James<MG2385>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-38.htm"><b>38</b></a></span>They *came<MG2064> to the house<MG3624> of the synagogue<MG752> official<MG752>, and He *saw<MG2334> a commotion<MG2351>, and <i>people</i> loudly<MG4183> weeping<MG2799> and wailing<MG214>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-39.htm"><b>39</b></a></span>And after entering<MG1525>, He *said<MG3004> to them, “Why<MG5101> are you making<MG2350b> a<MG2350b> commotion<MG2350b> and weeping<MG2799>? The child<MG3813> has not died<MG599>, but is<MG2518> asleep<MG2518>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-40.htm"><b>40</b></a></span>And they <i>began</i> laughing<MG2606> at<MG2606> Him. But putting<MG1544b> them all<MG3956> outside<MG1544b>, He *took<MG3880> along<MG3880> the child’s<MG3813> father<MG3962> and mother<MG3384> and His own companions<MG3588, 3326>, and *entered<MG1531> <i>the room</i> where<MG3699> the child<MG3813> was <i>in bed.</i> <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-41.htm"><b>41</b></a></span>And taking<MG2902> the child<MG3813> by the hand<MG5495>, He *said<MG3004> to her, “Talitha<MG5008>, kum<MG2891>!” (which<MG3739> translated<MG3177> means<MG1510>, “Little<MG2877> girl<MG2877>, I say<MG3004> to you, get<MG1453> up<MG1453>!”). <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-42.htm"><b>42</b></a></span>And immediately<MG2117> the girl<MG2877> got<MG450> up<MG450> and <i>began</i> to walk<MG4043>, for she was twelve<MG1427> years<MG2094> old.
