presents an experimental study of the bond behaviour of confined concrete beams reinforced with a chequer steel plate or a deformed steel bar by using the beam-bending pullout test. A total of three beams of 225 mm width, 300 mm height, and 600 mm length were cast and tested. All the beams had the same details of compression reinforcement and stirrups; two plain steel bars of 10 mm diameter (R10) were used for the compression reinforcement, and plain steel bars (R10) at a distance of 80 mm centre to centre were used for the stirrups. The first beam was reinforced with a deformed steel bar while the remaining beams were reinforced with horizontal or vertical chequer steel plates. The results showed no significant difference in the bond force between the beams reinforced with a deformed steel bar or a horizontal steel plate. The beam reinforced with a vertical steel plate considerably presented a bond force higher than the beam reinforced with a horizontal steel plate. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bond" title="bond">bond</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pullout" title=" pullout"> pullout</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=reinforced%20concrete" title=" reinforced concrete"> reinforced concrete</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=steel%20plate" title=" steel plate"> steel plate</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/114586/bond-strength-of-concrete-beams-reinforced-with-steel-plates-experimental-study" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/114586.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">131</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6303</span> Comparing Sounds of the Singing Voice</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Christel%20Elisabeth%20Bonin">Christel Elisabeth Bonin</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This experiment aims at showing that classical singing and belting have both different singing qualities, but singing with a speaking voice has no singing quality. For this purpose, a singing female voice was recorded on four different tone pitches, singing the vowel ‘a’ by using 3 different kinds of singing - classical trained voice, belting voice and speaking voice. The recordings have been entered in the Software Praat. Then the formants of each recorded tone were compared to each other and put in relationship to the singer’s formant. The visible results are taken as an indicator of comparable sound qualities of a classical trained female voice and a belting female voice concerning the concentration of overtones in F1 to F5 and a lack of sound quality in the speaking voice for singing purpose. The results also show that classical singing and belting are both valuable vocal techniques for singing due to their richness of overtones and that belting is not comparable to shouting or screaming. Singing with a speaking voice in contrast should not be called singing due to the lack of overtones which means by definition that there is no musical tone. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=formants" title="formants">formants</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=overtone" title=" overtone"> overtone</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=singer%E2%80%99s%20formant" title=" singer’s formant"> singer’s formant</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=singing%20voice" title=" singing voice"> singing voice</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=belting" title=" belting"> belting</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=classical%20singing" title=" classical singing"> classical singing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=singing%20with%20the%20speaking%20voice" title=" singing with the speaking voice"> singing with the speaking voice</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/41946/comparing-sounds-of-the-singing-voice" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/41946.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">328</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6302</span> Dynamic Analysis of Nanosize FG Rectangular Plates Based on Simple Nonlocal Quasi 3D HSDT</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sabrina%20Boutaleb">Sabrina Boutaleb</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fouad%20Bourad"> Fouad Bourad</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kouider%20Halim%20Benrahou"> Kouider Halim Benrahou</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdelouahed%20Tounsi"> Abdelouahed Tounsi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In the present work, the dynamic analysis of the functionally graded rectangular nanoplates is studied. The theory of nonlocal elasticity based on the quasi 3D high shear deformation theory (quasi 3D HSDT) has been employed to determine the natural frequencies of the nanosized FG plate. In HSDT, a cubic function is employed in terms of thickness coordinates to introduce the influence of transverse shear deformation and stretching thickness. The theory of nonlocal elasticity is utilized to examine the impact of the small scale on the natural frequency of the FG rectangular nanoplate. The equations of motion are deduced by implementing Hamilton’s principle. To demonstrate the accuracy of the proposed method, the calculated results in specific cases are compared and examined with available results in the literature, and a good agreement is observed. Finally, the influence of the various parameters, such as the nonlocal coefficient, the material indexes, the aspect ratio, and the thickness-to-length ratio, on the dynamic properties of the FG nanoplates is illustrated and discussed in detail. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nonlocal%20elasticity%20theory" title="nonlocal elasticity theory">nonlocal elasticity theory</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=FG%20nanoplate" title=" FG nanoplate"> FG nanoplate</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=free%20vibration" title=" free vibration"> free vibration</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=refined%20theory" title=" refined theory"> refined theory</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=elastic%20foundation" title=" elastic foundation"> elastic foundation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/165422/dynamic-analysis-of-nanosize-fg-rectangular-plates-based-on-simple-nonlocal-quasi-3d-hsdt" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/165422.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">120</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6301</span> Estimation of Natural Convection Heat Transfer from Plate-Fin Heat Sinks in a Closed Enclosure</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Han-Taw%20Chen">Han-Taw Chen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chung-Hou%20Lai"> Chung-Hou Lai</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tzu-Hsiang%20Lin"> Tzu-Hsiang Lin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ge-Jang%20He"> Ge-Jang He</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This study applies the inverse method and three-dimensional CFD commercial software in conjunction with the experimental temperature data to investigate the heat transfer and fluid flow characteristics of the plate-fin heat sink in a closed rectangular enclosure for various values of fin height. The mathematical problem reduces to a pair of noncoupled ordinary differential equations by similarity transformation, which is then solved numerically using the shooting method. Both the cases when the plate moves into or out of the origin are considered. Effects of the non-Newtonian (Casson) parameter, moving parameter, suction or injection parameter and Eckert number on the flow and heat transfer characteristics are thoroughly examined. This paper presents a non-linear finite element based modeling approach to estimate behavior of RC flat plate inclined column connection. Results from simulations of RC flat plate-straight column connection show good agreement with experimental response of specimens tested by other researchers. Here it is used to construct a mathematical model of relative study of the thermal effect on free transverse vibrations of clamped (c-c-c-c type) visco-elastic rectangular plate with linearly and exponentially thickness variations respectively in two directions. Researchers in the field of Engineering always make an effort for better designs of mechanical structures. In-depth study of the vibration behavior of tapered plates with diverse thickness variation under high temperature would ultimately help to finalize the accurate design of a structure. The perfect tapered structure saves weight and as well as expenses. In the present paper, the comparison has been done for deflection and time period corresponding to the first two modes of vibrations of clamped plate for various values of aspect ratio, thermal constants, and taper constants of both the cases. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rayleigh-Ritz%20Method" title="Rayleigh-Ritz Method">Rayleigh-Ritz Method</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tapered%20plates" title=" tapered plates"> tapered plates</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=transverse%20vibration" title=" transverse vibration"> transverse vibration</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=thermal%20constant" title=" thermal constant"> thermal constant</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=visco-elasticity" title=" visco-elasticity"> visco-elasticity</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/68136/relative-study-of-the-effect-of-the-temperature-gradient-on-free-vibrations-of-clamped-visco-elastic-rectangular-plates-with-linearly-and-exponentially-thickness-variations-respectively-in-two-directions" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/68136.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">229</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6295</span> Jet Impingement Heat Transfer on a Rib-Roughened Flat Plate</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=A.%20H.%20Alenezi">A. Energy shaping control design methods are appealing as they retain the underlying nonlinear dynamics and can provide stability results that hold over larger domain than can be obtained using linear design and analysis. In the present study, controlled lagrangian is employed for designing a controller in an under actuated rotating flexible plate system. In the system of rotating flexible plate, due to its nonlinear characteristics and coupled dynamics of rigid and flexible components, controller design is a known challenge. In this paper, controller objectives are considered to be vibration reduction of flexible component and position control of the tip of the plate. To achieve the goals, a method based on both kinetic and potential energy shaping is introduced. The stability of the closed-loop system is investigated and proved around its equilibrium points. Moreover, the proposed controller is shown to be robust against disturbance and plant uncertainties. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=controlled%20lagrangian" title="controlled lagrangian">controlled lagrangian</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=underactuated%20system" title=" underactuated system"> underactuated system</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=flexible%20rotating%20plate" title=" flexible rotating plate"> flexible rotating plate</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=disturbance" title=" disturbance"> disturbance</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/26345/modeling-dynamics-and-control-of-transversal-vibration-of-an-underactuated-flexible-plate-using-controlled-lagrangian-method" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/26345.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">446</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6290</span> A Composite Beam Element Based on Global-Local Superposition Theory for Prediction of Delamination in Composite Laminates</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Charles%20Mota%20Possatti%20J%C3%BAnior">Charles Mota Possatti Júnior</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Andr%C3%A9%20Schwanz%20de%20Lima"> André Schwanz de Lima</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maur%C3%ADcio%20Vicente%20Donadon"> Maurício Vicente Donadon</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alfredo%20Rocha%20de%20Faria"> Alfredo Rocha de Faria</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> An interlaminar damage model is combined with a beam element formulation based on global-local superposition to assess delamination in composite laminates. The variations in the mechanical properties in the laminate, generated by the presence of delamination, are calculated as a function of the displacements in the interface layers. The global-local superposition of displacement fields ensures the zig-zag behaviour of stresses and displacement, and the number of degrees of freedom (DOFs) is independent of the number of layers. The displacements and stresses are calculated as a function of DOFs commonly used in traditional beam elements. Finally, the finite element(FE) formulation is extended to handle cases of different thicknesses, and then the FE model predictions are compared with results obtained from analytical solutions and commercial finite element codes. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=delamination" title="delamination">delamination</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=global-local%20superposition%20theory" title=" global-local superposition theory"> global-local superposition theory</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=single%20beam%20element" title=" single beam element"> single beam element</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=zig-zag" title=" zig-zag"> zig-zag</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=interlaminar%20damage%20model" title=" interlaminar damage model"> interlaminar damage model</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/157413/a-composite-beam-element-based-on-global-local-superposition-theory-for-prediction-of-delamination-in-composite-laminates" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/157413.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">118</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6289</span> Thermal Performance Investigation on Cross V-Shape Solar Air Collectors</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Xi%20Luo">Xi Luo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Xu%20Ji"> Xu Ji</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yunfeng%20Wang"> Yunfeng Wang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Guoliang%20Li"> Guoliang Li</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chongqiang%20Yan"> Chongqiang Yan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ming%20Li"> Ming Li</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Two different kinds of cross V-shape solar air collectors are designed and constructed. In the transverse cross V-shape collector, the V-shape bottom plate is along the air flow direction and the absorbing plate is perpendicular to the air flow direction. In the lengthway cross V-shape collector, the V-shape absorbing plate is along the air flow direction and the bottom plate is perpendicular to the air flow direction. Based on heat balance, the mathematical model is built to evaluate their performances. These thermal performances of the two cross V-shape solar air collectors and an extra traditional flat-plate solar air collector are characterized under various operating conditions by experiments. The experimental results agree well with the calculation values. The experimental results prove that the thermal efficiency of transverse cross V-shape collector precedes that of others. The air temperature at any point along the flow direction of the transverse cross V-shape collector is higher than that of the lengthway cross V-shape collector. The uni-directional porous copper with the pore perpendicularly orienting the heat transfer surface is soldered to a grooved heat transfer surface. This structure enables the cooling liquid to evaporate in the pore of the porous copper and then the vapor to discharge through the grooves. In order to minimize the cold plate, a double flow channel concept is introduced for the design of the cold plate. The cold plate consists of a base plate, a spacer, and a vapor discharging plate, totally 12 mm in thickness. The base plate has multiple nozzles of 1.0 mm in diameter for the liquid supply and 4 slits of 2.0 mm in width for vapor discharging, and is attached onto the top surface of the porous copper plate of 20 mm in diameter and 5.0 mm in thickness. The pore size is 0.36 mm and the porosity is 36 %. The cooling liquid flows into the porous copper as an impinging jet flow from the multiple nozzles, and then the vapor, which is generated in the pore, is discharged through the grooves and the vapor slits outside the cold plate. A heated test section consists of the cold plate, which was explained above, and a heat transfer copper block with 6 cartridge heaters. The cross section of the heat transfer block is reduced in order to increase the heat flux. The top surface of the block is the grooved heat transfer surface of 10 mm in diameter at which the porous copper is soldered. The grooves are fabricated like latticework, and the width and depth are 1.0 mm and 0.5 mm, respectively. By embedding three thermocouples in the cylindrical part of the heat transfer block, the temperature of the heat transfer surface ant the heat flux are extrapolated in a steady state. In this experiment, the flow rate is 0.5 L/min and the flow velocity at each nozzle is 0.27 m/s. The liquid inlet temperature is 60 °C. The experimental results prove that, in a single-phase heat transfer regime, the heat transfer performance of the cold plate with the uni-directional porous copper is 2.1 times higher than that without the porous copper, though the pressure loss with the porous copper also becomes higher than that without the porous copper. As to the two-phase heat transfer regime, the critical heat flux increases by approximately 35% by introducing the uni-directional porous copper, compared with the CHF of the multiple impinging jet flow. In addition, we confirmed that these heat transfer data was much higher than that of the ordinary single impinging jet flow. These heat transfer data prove high potential of the cold plate with the uni-directional porous copper from the view point of not only the heat transfer performance but also energy saving. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cooling" title="cooling">cooling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cold%20plate" title=" cold plate"> cold plate</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=uni-porous%20media" title=" uni-porous media"> uni-porous media</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=heat%20transfer" title=" heat transfer"> heat transfer</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/74838/heat-transfer-performance-of-a-small-cold-plate-with-uni-directional-porous-copper-for-cooling-power-electronics" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/74838.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">295</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6287</span> Experimental Investigation of the Aeroacoustics Field for a Rectangular Jet Impinging on a Slotted Plate: Stereoscopic Particle Image Velocimetry Measurement before and after the Plate</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nour%20Eldin%20Afyouni">Nour Eldin Afyouni</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hassan%20Assoum"> Hassan Assoum</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kamel%20Abed-Meraim"> Kamel Abed-Meraim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Anas%20Sakout"> Anas Sakout</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The acoustic of an impinging jet holds significant importance in the engineering field. In HVAC systems, the jet impingement, in some cases, generates noise that destroys acoustic comfort. This paper presents an experimental study of a rectangular air jet impinging on a slotted plate to investigate the correlation between sound emission and turbulence dynamics. The experiment was conducted with an impact ratio L/H = 4 and a Reynolds number Re = 4700. The survey shows that coherent structures within the impinging jet are responsible for self-sustaining tone production. To achieve this, a specific experimental setup consisting of two simultaneous Stereoscopic Particle Image Velocimetry (S-PIV) measurements was developed to track vortical structures both before and after the plate, in addition to acoustic measurements. The results reveal a significant correlation between acoustic waves and the passage of coherent structures. Variations in the arrangement of vortical structures between the upstream and downstream sides of the plate were observed. This analysis of flow dynamics can enhance our understanding of slot noise. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=impinging%20jet" title="impinging jet">impinging jet</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=coherent%20structures" title=" coherent structures"> coherent structures</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=SPIV" title=" SPIV"> SPIV</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=aeroacoustics" title=" aeroacoustics"> aeroacoustics</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/172777/experimental-investigation-of-the-aeroacoustics-field-for-a-rectangular-jet-impinging-on-a-slotted-plate-stereoscopic-particle-image-velocimetry-measurement-before-and-after-the-plate" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/172777.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">83</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6286</span> Experimental Measurements of Evacuated Enclosure Thermal Insulation Effectiveness for Vacuum Flat Plate Solar Thermal Collectors</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Paul%20Henshall">Paul Henshall</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Philip%20Eames"> Philip Eames</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Roger%20Moss"> Roger Moss</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Stan%20Shire"> Stan Shire</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Farid%20Arya"> Farid Arya</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Trevor%20Hyde"> Trevor Hyde</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Encapsulating the absorber of a flat plate solar thermal collector in vacuum by an enclosure that can be evacuated can result in a significant increase in collector performance and achievable operating temperatures. Furthermore, this work describes the selection and sizing of a getter, suitable for maintaining the vacuum inside the enclosure for the lifetime of the collector, which can be activated at low temperatures. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vacuum" title="vacuum">vacuum</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=thermal" title=" thermal"> thermal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=flat-plate%20solar%20collector" title=" flat-plate solar collector"> flat-plate solar collector</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=insulation" title=" insulation"> insulation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/48208/experimental-measurements-of-evacuated-enclosure-thermal-insulation-effectiveness-for-vacuum-flat-plate-solar-thermal-collectors" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/48208.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">394</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6285</span> Static and Dynamic Analysis of Timoshenko Microcantilever Using the Finite Element Method</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammad%20Tahmasebipour">Mohammad Tahmasebipour</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hosein%20Salarpour"> Hosein Salarpour</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Micro cantilevers are one of the components used in the manufacture of micro-electromechanical systems. Epoxy microcantilevers have a variety of applications in the manufacture of micro-sensors and micro-actuators. In this paper, the Timoshenko Micro cantilever was statically and dynamically analyzed using the finite element method. First, all boundary conditions and initial conditions governing micro cantilevers were considered. The effect of size on the deflection, angle of rotation, natural frequencies, and mode shapes were then analyzed and evaluated under different frequencies. It was observed that an increased micro cantilever thickness reduces the deflection, rotation, and resonant frequency. A good agreement was observed between our results and those obtained by the couple stress theory, the classical theory, and the strain gradient elasticity theory. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=microcantilever" title="microcantilever">microcantilever</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=microsensor%3B%20epoxy" title=" microsensor; epoxy"> microsensor; epoxy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dynamic%20behavior" title=" dynamic behavior"> dynamic behavior</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=static%20behavior" title=" static behavior"> static behavior</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=finite%20element%20method" title=" finite element method"> finite element method</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/28159/static-and-dynamic-analysis-of-timoshenko-microcantilever-using-the-finite-element-method" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/28159.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">416</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6284</span> A 3D Eight Nodes Brick Finite Element Based on the Strain Approach</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=L.%20Belounar">L. A mathematical model of a double flow solar air heater, in which air is flowing simultaneously over and under the absorbing plate is presented and solved by developing a computer program in C++ language. The performance evaluation is studied in terms of air temperature rise, energy, effective and exergy efficiencies. The performance of double flow corrugated absorber is compared with double flow flat plate and conventional solar air heaters. It is found that double flow effectively increases the air temperature rise and efficiencies in comparison to a conventional collector. However, corrugated absorber is more superior to that of flat plate double flow solar air heater. The results show that increasing the solar radiation leads to achieve higher air temperature rise and efficiencies. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=corrugated%20absorber" title="corrugated absorber">corrugated absorber</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=double%20flow" title=" double flow"> double flow</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=flat%20plate" title=" flat plate"> flat plate</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=solar%20air%20heater" title=" solar air heater"> solar air heater</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/68855/analysis-of-the-effect-of-gsr-on-the-performance-of-double-flow-corrugated-absorber-solar-air-heater" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/68855.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">350</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6280</span> Understanding the Prevalence and Expression of Virulence Factors Harbored by Enterotoxigenic Escherichia Coli </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Debjyoti%20Bhakat">Debjyoti Bhakat</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Indranil%20Mondal"> Indranil Mondal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Asish%20K.%20Mukhopadayay"> Asish K. Colonization factors play an important role in pathogenesis and are one of the main targets for Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) vaccine development. However, ETEC vaccines had poorly performed in the past, as the prevalence of colonization factors is region-dependent. There are more than 25 classical colonization factors presently known to be expressed by ETEC, although all are not expressed together. Further, there are other multiple non-classical virulence factors that are also identified. Here the presence and expression of common classical and non-classical virulence factors were studied. Further studies were done on the expression of prevalent colonization factors in different strains. For the prevalence determination, multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was employed, which was confirmed by simplex PCR. Quantitative RT-PCR was done to study the RNA expression of these virulence factors. Strains negative for colonization factors expression were confirmed by SDS-PAGE. Among the clinical isolates, the most prevalent toxin was est+elt, followed by est and elt, while the pattern was reversed in the control strains. There were 29% and 40% strains negative for any classical colonization factors (CF) or non-classical virulence factors (NCVF) among the clinical and control strains, respectively. Among CF positive ETEC strains, CS6 and CS21 were the prevalent ones in the clinical strains, whereas in control strains, CS6 was the predominant one. For NCVF genes, eatA was the most prevalent among the clinical isolates and etpA for control. CS6 was the most expressed CF, and eatA was the predominantly expressed NCVF for both clinical and controlled ETEC isolates. CS6 expression was more in strains having CS6 alone. Different strains express CS6 at different levels. Not all strains expressed their respective virulence factors. Understanding the prevalent colonization factor, CS6, and its nature of expression will contribute to designing an effective vaccine against ETEC in this region of the globe. The expression pattern of CS6 also will help in examining the relatedness between the ETEC subtypes. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=classical%20virulence%20factors" title="classical virulence factors">classical virulence factors</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CS6" title=" CS6"> CS6</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=diarrhea" title=" diarrhea"> diarrhea</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=enterotoxigenic%20escherichia%20coli" title=" enterotoxigenic escherichia coli"> enterotoxigenic escherichia coli</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=expression" title=" expression"> expression</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=non-classical%20virulence%20factors" title=" non-classical virulence factors"> non-classical virulence factors</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/112917/understanding-the-prevalence-and-expression-of-virulence-factors-harbored-by-enterotoxigenic-escherichia-coli" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/112917.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">156</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6279</span> Heat Transfer Analysis of Corrugated Plate Heat Exchanger</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ketankumar%20Gandabhai%20Patel">Ketankumar Gandabhai Patel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jalpit%20Balvantkumar%20Prajapati"> Jalpit Balvantkumar Prajapati</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Plate type heat exchangers has many thin plates that are slightly apart and have very large surface areas and fluid flow passages that are good for heat transfer. This can be a more effective heat exchanger than the tube or shell heat exchanger due to advances in brazing and gasket technology that have made this plate exchanger more practical. Plate type heat exchangers are most widely used in food processing industries and dairy industries. Mostly fouling occurs in plate type heat exchanger due to deposits create an insulating layer over the surface of the heat exchanger, that decreases the heat transfer between fluids and increases the pressure drop. The pressure drop increases as a result of the narrowing of the flow area, which increases the gap velocity. Therefore, the thermal performance of the heat exchanger decreases with time, resulting in an undersized heat exchanger and causing the process efficiency to be reduced. Heat exchangers are often over sized by 70 to 80%, of which 30 % to 50% is assigned to fouling. The fouling can be reduced by varying some geometric parameters and flow parameters. Based on the study, a correlation will estimate for Nusselt number as a function of Reynolds number, Prandtl number and chevron angle. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=heat%20transfer%20coefficient" title="heat transfer coefficient">heat transfer coefficient</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=single%20phase%20flow" title=" single phase flow"> single phase flow</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mass%20flow%20rate" title=" mass flow rate"> mass flow rate</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pressure%20drop" title=" pressure drop"> pressure drop</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/49624/heat-transfer-analysis-of-corrugated-plate-heat-exchanger" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/49624.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">312</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6278</span> Experimental and Computational Analysis of Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastic Beams with Piezoelectric Fibers</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Selin%20Kunc">Selin Kunc</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Srinivas%20Koushik%20Gundimeda"> Srinivas Koushik Gundimeda</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=John%20A.%20Gallagher"> John A. The electromechanical behavior of piezoelectric materials coupled with high strength/low weight GFRP laminated beams can have significant application in a wide range of industries. Energy scavenging through mechanical vibrations is the focus of this study, and possible applications can be seen in the automotive industry. This study examines the behavior of such composite laminates using Classical Lamination Theory (CLT) under three-point bending conditions. Fiber orientation is optimized for the desired stiffness and deflection that yield maximum energy output. Finite element models using ABAQUS/CAE are verified through experimental testing. The optimum stacking sequences examined are [0o]s, [ 0/45o]s, and [45/-45o]s. Results show the superiority of the stacking sequence [0/45o]s, providing higher strength at a lower weight, and maximum energy output. Furthermore, laminated GFRP beams additionally reinforced with piezoelectric fibers can be used under bending to not only replace metallic component while providing similar strength at a lower weight but also provide an energy output. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=classical%20lamination%20theory%20%28CLT%29" title="classical lamination theory (CLT)">classical lamination theory (CLT)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=energy%20scavenging" title=" energy scavenging"> energy scavenging</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=glass%20fiber%20reinforced%20plastics%20%28GFRP%29" title=" glass fiber reinforced plastics (GFRP)"> glass fiber reinforced plastics (GFRP)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=piezoelectric%20fibers" title=" piezoelectric fibers"> piezoelectric fibers</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/91201/experimental-and-computational-analysis-of-glass-fiber-reinforced-plastic-beams-with-piezoelectric-fibers" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/91201.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">306</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6277</span> Three-Dimensional, Non-Linear Finite Element Analysis of Bullet Penetration through Thin AISI 4340 Steel Target Plate</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abhishek%20Soni">Abhishek Soni</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=A.%20Kumaraswamy"> A. The effect of large strain, strain-rate and temperature at very high velocity regime was studied from number of simulations of semi-spherical nose shape bullet penetration through single layered circular plate with 2 mm thickness at impact velocities of 500, 1000, and 1500 m/s with the help of Johnson Cook material model. Mie-Gruneisen equation of state is used in conjunction with Johnson Cook material model to determine pressure-volume relationship at various points of interests. Two material models viz. Plastic-Kinematic and Johnson- Cook resulted in different deformation patterns in steel plate. It is observed from the simulation results that the velocity drop and loss of kinetic energy occurred very quickly up to perforation of plate, after that the change in velocity and changes in kinetic energy are negligibly small. These values were determined through the simulation by deriving genetic and Monte Carlo algorithms that optimize the design and the future of this technology. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=HEMT" title="HEMT">HEMT</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=silvaco" title=" silvaco"> silvaco</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=field%20plate" title=" field plate"> field plate</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=genetic%20algorithm" title=" genetic algorithm"> genetic algorithm</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=quantum" title=" quantum"> quantum</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/39443/etude-3d-quantum-numerical-simulation-of-performance-in-the-hemt" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/39443.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">349</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6275</span> Numerical Analysis Of Stainless Steel Beam To Column Joints With Bolted Flush End Plates</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Takwiir%20Tahriim%20Khan">Takwiir Tahriim Khan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tausif%20Khalid"> Tausif Khalid</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammad%20Redwan%20Ahamed"> Mohammad Redwan Ahamed</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Md%20Soebur%20Rahman"> Md Soebur Rahman</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The mutual connection in joints has a significant impact on the safe and cost-effective design of steel structures. Generally, the end plates are welded at the end of the beam and columns are bolted with the end plates. Thus, the moment will be transferred at the interface, which is a critical segment at the connection. 3-D Finite Element Models (FEM) has been developed using ABAQUS 2017 software to predict the yield capacity of the end plate connections. The parameters used in this study are the depth, width, and thickness of the end plate, dimensions of the bolt, sectional and material properties of beams and columns. The influence width, depth, and thicknesses of the end plate connection on yield capacity were investigated through parametric studies. The results showed that, for increasing plate thickness from 0.3 inch to 0.8 inch by an increment of 0.1 inch the yield capacity increased by 2.85% on average, for decreasing the end plate depth from 13 inch to 11 inch the yield capacity increased by 25.4 %, and for decreasing the end plate width from 6.5 inch to 5.75 inch the yield capacity increased by 35.4%. Variation in yield capacity was also found by changing the beam and column section. Besides, the numerical results showed a good agreement with published experimental literature with an average variation of less than 8.3 % in yield capacity. So the study allows for a more effective combination of beam, column, and end plate dimensions. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a
