For they may say<MH559>, ‘The LORD<MH3068> has not appeared<MH7200> to you.’” <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/4-2.htm"><b>2</b></a></span>The LORD<MH3068> said<MH559> to him, “What<MH4100> is that in your hand<MH3027>?” And he said<MH559>, “A staff<MH4294>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/4-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>Then He said<MH559>, “Throw<MH7993> it on the ground<MH776>.” So he threw<MH7993> it on the ground<MH776>, and it turned<MH1961> into a serpent<MH5175>; and Moses<MH4872> fled<MH5127> from it. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/4-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>But the LORD<MH3068> said<MH559> to Moses<MH4872>, “Reach<MH7971> out<MH7971> with your hand<MH3027> and grasp<MH270> <i>it</i> by its tail<MH2180>”—so he reached<MH7971> out<MH7971> with his hand<MH3027> and caught<MH2388> it, and it turned<MH1961> into a staff<MH4294> in his <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>hand<MH3709>— <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/4-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>“so<MH4616> that<MH4616> they may believe<MH539> that the LORD<MH3068>, the God<MH430> of their fathers<MH1>, the God<MH430> of Abraham<MH85>, the God<MH430> of Isaac<MH3327>, and the God<MH430> of Jacob<MH3290>, has appeared<MH7200> to you.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/4-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>The LORD<MH3068> furthermore<MH5750> said<MH559> to him, “Now<MH4994> put<MH935> your hand<MH3027> inside the fold<MH2436> of<MH2436> your robe<MH2436>.” So he put<MH935> his hand<MH3027> inside the fold<MH2436>, and when he took<MH3318> it out<MH3318>, behold<MH2009>, his hand<MH3027> was leprous<MH6879> like snow<MH7950>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/4-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>Then He said<MH559>, “Put<MH7725> your hand<MH3027> inside the fold<MH2436> of<MH2436> your robe<MH2436> again<MH7725>.” So he put<MH7725> his hand<MH3027> into the fold<MH2436> again<MH7725>, and when he took<MH3318> it out<MH3318> of the fold<MH2436>, behold<MH2009>, it was restored<MH7725> like <i>the rest of</i> his flesh<MH1320>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/4-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>“So if<MH518> they will not believe<MH539> you nor <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>pay<MH8085> attention<MH8085> to the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>evidence<MH6963> of the first<MH7223> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>sign<MH226>, they may believe<MH539> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>evidence<MH6963> of the last<MH314> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>sign<MH226>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/4-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>But if<MH518> they will not believe<MH539> even<MH1571> these<MH428> two<MH8147> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>signs<MH226> nor pay<MH8085> attention<MH8085> to what<MH6963> you say<MH6963>, then you shall take<MH3947> some<MH4480> water<MH4325> from the Nile<MH2975> and pour<MH8210> it on the dry<MH3004> ground<MH3004>; and the water<MH4325> which<MH834> you take<MH3947> from the Nile<MH2975> will turn<MH1961> into blood<MH1818> on the dry<MH3006> ground<MH3006>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/4-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Then Moses<MH4872> said<MH559> to the LORD<MH3068>, “Please<MH994a>, Lord<MH136>, I have never<MH3808> been <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>eloquent<MH376, 1697>, neither<MH1571> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>recently<MH4480, 8543> nor<MH1571> in time<MH8032a> past<MH8032a>, nor<MH1571> since<MH3975b> You have spoken<MH1696> to Your servant<MH5650>; for I am <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>slow<MH3515> of speech<MH6310> and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>slow<MH3515> of tongue<MH3956>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/4-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>But the LORD<MH3068> said<MH559> to him, “Who<MH4310> has made<MH7760> the human<MH120> mouth<MH6310>? Or<MH176> who<MH4310> makes<MH7760> <i>anyone</i> unable<MH483> to<MH483> speak<MH483> or<MH176> deaf<MH2795>, or<MH176> able<MH6493> to<MH6493> see<MH6493> or<MH176> blind<MH5787>? Is it not I, the LORD<MH3068>? <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/4-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>Now<MH6258> then go<MH1980>, and I Myself<MH595> will be with your mouth<MH6310>, and instruct<MH3384> you in what<MH834> you are to say<MH1696>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/4-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>But he said<MH559>, “Please<MH994a>, Lord<MH136>, now<MH4994> send<MH7971> <i>the message</i> by <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>whomever You will<MH7971>.” <p class="hdg">Aaron to Be Moses’ Mouthpiece</p><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/4-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>Then the anger<MH639> of the LORD<MH3068> burned<MH2734> against Moses<MH4872>, and He said<MH559>, “Is there not your brother<MH251> Aaron<MH175> the Levite<MH3881>? I know<MH3045> that <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>he speaks<MH1696> fluently<MH1696>. And moreover<MH1571>, behold<MH2009>, he is coming<MH3318> out<MH3318> to meet<MH7122> you; when he sees<MH7200> you, he will be <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>overjoyed<MH8055, 3820>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/4-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>So you are to speak<MH1696> to him and put<MH7760> the words<MH1697> in his mouth<MH6310>; and I Myself<MH595> will be with your mouth<MH6310> and his mouth<MH6310>, and I will instruct<MH3384> you in what<MH834> you are to do<MH6213a>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/4-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>He shall speak<MH1696> for you to the people<MH5971a>; and he will be as a mouth<MH6310> for you and you will be as God<MH430> to him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/4-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>And you shall take<MH3947> in your hand<MH3027> this<MH2088> staff<MH4294>, with which<MH834> you shall perform<MH6213a> the signs<MH226>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/4-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>Then Moses<MH4872> departed<MH1980> and returned<MH7725> to his father-in-law<MH2860b> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>Jethro<MH3500>, and said<MH559> to him, “Please<MH4994>, let me go<MH1980>, that I may return<MH7725> to my brothers<MH251> who<MH834> are in Egypt<MH4714>, and see<MH7200> if they are still<MH5750> alive<MH2416a>.” And Jethro<MH3503> said<MH559> to Moses<MH4872>, “Go<MH1980> in peace<MH7965>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/4-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>Now the LORD<MH3068> said<MH559> to Moses<MH4872> in Midian<MH4080>, “Go<MH1980> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>back<MH7725> to Egypt<MH4714>, for all<MH3605> the men<MH376> who were seeking<MH1245> your life<MH5315> are dead<MH4191>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/4-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>So Moses<MH4872> took<MH3947> his wife<MH802> and his sons<MH1121> and mounted<MH7392> them on a donkey<MH2543>, and returned<MH7725> to the land<MH776> of Egypt<MH4714>. Moses<MH4872> also took<MH3947> the staff<MH4294> of God<MH430> in his hand<MH3027>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/4-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>And the LORD<MH3068> said<MH559> to Moses<MH4872>, “When you go<MH1980> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[r]</a></span>back<MH7725> to Egypt<MH4714>, see<MH7200> that you perform<MH6213a> before<MH6440> Pharaoh<MH6547> all<MH3605> the wonders<MH4159> which<MH834> I have put<MH7760> in your <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[s]</a></span>power<MH3027>; but I will harden<MH2388> his heart<MH3820> so that he will not let<MH7971> the people<MH5971a> go<MH7971>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/4-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>Then you shall say<MH559> to Pharaoh<MH6547>, ‘This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the LORD<MH3068> says<MH559>: “Israel<MH3478> is My son<MH1121>, My firstborn<MH1060>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/4-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>So I said<MH559> to you, ‘Let<MH7971> My son<MH1121> go<MH7971> so that he may serve<MH5647> Me’; but you have refused<MH3985> to let<MH7971> him go<MH7971>. Behold<MH2009>, I am going to kill<MH2026> your son<MH1121>, your firstborn<MH1060>.”’” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/4-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>But it came<MH1961> about<MH1961> at the overnight<MH4411> encampment<MH4411> on the way<MH1870>, that the LORD<MH3068> met<MH6298> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[t]</a></span>Moses, and sought<MH1245> to put<MH4191> him to<MH4191> death<MH4191>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/4-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>So Zipporah<MH6855> took<MH3947> a flint<MH6864> and cut<MH3772> off<MH3772> her son’s<MH1121> foreskin<MH6190> and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[u]</a></span>threw<MH5060> it at Moses’ feet<MH7272>; and she said<MH559>, “You are indeed<MH3588> a groom<MH2860a> of blood<MH1818> to me!” <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/4-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>So He left<MH7503> him alone<MH7503>. At that time<MH227> she said<MH559>, “<i>You are</i> a groom<MH2860a> of blood<MH1818>”—<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[v]</a></span>because of the circumcision<MH4139>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/4-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>Now the LORD<MH3068> said<MH559> to Aaron<MH175>, “Go<MH1980> to meet<MH7122> Moses<MH4872> in the wilderness<MH4057b>.” So he went<MH1980> and met<MH6298> him at the mountain<MH2022> of God<MH430> and kissed<MH5401a> him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/4-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>Moses<MH4872> told<MH5046> Aaron<MH175> all<MH3605> the words<MH1697> of the LORD<MH3068> with which<MH834> He had sent<MH7971> him, and all<MH3605> the signs<MH226> that He had commanded<MH6680> him <i>to do.</i> <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/4-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>Then Moses<MH4872> and Aaron<MH175> went<MH1980> and assembled<MH622> all<MH3605> the elders<MH2205> of the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/4-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>and Aaron<MH175> spoke<MH1696> all<MH3605> the words<MH1697> which<MH834> the LORD<MH3068> had spoken<MH1696> to Moses<MH4872>.
