The strong and broad-spectrum antimicrobial effect of plasma-activated liquids (PALs) is now well known. The proven applicability of machine learning (ML) in the medical field is encouraging for its application in the field of plasma medicine as well. Thus, ML applications on PALs could present a new perspective to better understand the influences of various parameters on their antimicrobial effects. In this paper, comparative supervised ML models are presented by using previously obtained data to qualitatively predict the in vitro antimicrobial activity of PALs. A literature search was performed and data is collected from 33 relevant articles. After the required preprocessing steps, two supervised ML methods, namely classification, and regression are applied to data to obtain microbial inactivation (MI) predictions. For classification, MI is labeled in four categories and for regression, MI is used as a continuous variable. Two different robust cross-validation strategies are conducted for classification and regression models to evaluate the proposed method; repeated stratified k-fold cross-validation and k-fold cross-validation, respectively. We also investigate the effect of different features on models. The results demonstrated that the hyperparameter-optimized Random Forest Classifier (oRFC) and Random Forest Regressor (oRFR) provided better results than other models for the classification and regression, respectively. Finally, the best test accuracy of 82.68% for oRFC and R2 of 0.75 for the oRFR are obtained. ML techniques could contribute to a better understanding of plasma parameters that have a dominant role in the desired antimicrobial effect. Furthermore, such findings may contribute to the definition of a plasma dose in the future. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('2207.12478v1-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('2207.12478v1-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">△ Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 25 July, 2022; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> July 2022. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">45 pages, 11 figures, 5 tables</span> </p> </li> <li class="arxiv-result"> <div class="is-marginless"> <p class="list-title is-inline-block"><a href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2205.08830">arXiv:2205.08830</a> <span> [<a href="https://arxiv.org/pdf/2205.08830">pdf</a>, <a href="https://arxiv.org/format/2205.08830">other</a>] </span> </p> <div class="tags is-inline-block"> <span class="tag is-small is-link tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="High Energy Physics - Experiment">hep-ex</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="High Energy Astrophysical Phenomena">astro-ph.HE</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="High Energy Physics - Phenomenology">hep-ph</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="Instrumentation and Detectors">physics.ins-det</span> </div> <div class="is-inline-block" style="margin-left: 0.5rem"> <div class="tags has-addons"> <span class="tag is-dark is-size-7">doi</span> <span class="tag is-light is-size-7"><a class="" href="https://doi.org/10.1088/1475-7516/2022/10/033">10.1088/1475-7516/2022/10/033 <i class="fa fa-external-link" aria-hidden="true"></i></a></span> </div> </div> </div> <p class="title is-5 mathjax"> Prospects for Detecting the Diffuse Supernova Neutrino Background with JUNO </p> <p class="authors"> <span class="search-hit">Authors:</span> <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=JUNO+Collaboration"> JUNO Collaboration</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Abusleme%2C+A">Angel Abusleme</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Adam%2C+T">Thomas Adam</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Ahmad%2C+S">Shakeel Ahmad</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Ahmed%2C+R">Rizwan Ahmed</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Aiello%2C+S">Sebastiano Aiello</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Akram%2C+M">Muhammad Akram</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=An%2C+F">Fengpeng An</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=An%2C+Q">Qi An</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Andronico%2C+G">Giuseppe Andronico</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Anfimov%2C+N">Nikolay Anfimov</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Antonelli%2C+V">Vito Antonelli</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Antoshkina%2C+T">Tatiana Antoshkina</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Asavapibhop%2C+B">Burin Asavapibhop</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=de+Andr%C3%A9%2C+J+P+A+M">Jo茫o Pedro Athayde Marcondes de Andr茅</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Auguste%2C+D">Didier Auguste</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Balashov%2C+N">Nikita Balashov</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Baldini%2C+W">Wander Baldini</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Barresi%2C+A">Andrea Barresi</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Basilico%2C+D">Davide Basilico</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Baussan%2C+E">Eric Baussan</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Bellato%2C+M">Marco Bellato</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Bergnoli%2C+A">Antonio Bergnoli</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Birkenfeld%2C+T">Thilo Birkenfeld</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Blin%2C+S">Sylvie Blin</a> , et al. We employ the latest information on the DSNB flux predictions, and investigate in detail the background and its reduction for the DSNB search at JUNO. The atmospheric neutrino induced neutral current (NC) background turns out to be the most critical background, whose uncertainty is carefully evaluated from both the spread of model predictions and an envisaged \textit{in situ} measurement. We also make a careful study on the background suppression with the pulse shape discrimination (PSD) and triple coincidence (TC) cuts. With latest DSNB signal predictions, more realistic background evaluation and PSD efficiency optimization, and additional TC cut, JUNO can reach the significance of 3$蟽$ for 3 years of data taking, and achieve better than 5$蟽$ after 10 years for a reference DSNB model. In the pessimistic scenario of non-observation, JUNO would strongly improve the limits and exclude a significant region of the model parameter space. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('2205.08830v2-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('2205.08830v2-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">△ Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 13 October, 2022; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">v1</span> submitted 18 May, 2022; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> May 2022. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">29 pages, 11 figures, final published version in JCAP</span> </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Journal ref:</span> JCAP 10 (2022) 033 </p> </li> <li class="arxiv-result"> <div class="is-marginless"> <p class="list-title is-inline-block"><a href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2107.03669">arXiv:2107.03669</a> <span> [<a href="https://arxiv.org/pdf/2107.03669">pdf</a>, <a href="https://arxiv.org/format/2107.03669">other</a>] </span> </p> <div class="tags is-inline-block"> <span class="tag is-small is-link tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="Instrumentation and Detectors">physics.ins-det</span> </div> <div class="is-inline-block" style="margin-left: 0.5rem"> <div class="tags has-addons"> <span class="tag is-dark is-size-7">doi</span> <span class="tag is-light is-size-7"><a class="" href="https://doi.org/10.1007/JHEP11(2021)102">10.1007/JHEP11(2021)102 <i class="fa fa-external-link" aria-hidden="true"></i></a></span> </div> </div> </div> <p class="title is-5 mathjax"> Radioactivity control strategy for the JUNO detector </p> <p class="authors"> <span class="search-hit">Authors:</span> <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=JUNO+collaboration"> JUNO collaboration</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Abusleme%2C+A">Angel Abusleme</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Adam%2C+T">Thomas Adam</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Ahmad%2C+S">Shakeel Ahmad</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Ahmed%2C+R">Rizwan Ahmed</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Aiello%2C+S">Sebastiano Aiello</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Akram%2C+M">Muhammad Akram</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=An%2C+F">Fengpeng An</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=An%2C+Q">Qi An</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Andronico%2C+G">Giuseppe Andronico</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Anfimov%2C+N">Nikolay Anfimov</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Antonelli%2C+V">Vito Antonelli</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Antoshkina%2C+T">Tatiana Antoshkina</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Asavapibhop%2C+B">Burin Asavapibhop</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=de+Andr%C3%A9%2C+J+P+A+M">Jo茫o Pedro Athayde Marcondes de Andr茅</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Auguste%2C+D">Didier Auguste</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Babic%2C+A">Andrej Babic</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Baldini%2C+W">Wander Baldini</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Barresi%2C+A">Andrea Barresi</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Basilico%2C+D">Davide Basilico</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Baussan%2C+E">Eric Baussan</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Bellato%2C+M">Marco Bellato</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Bergnoli%2C+A">Antonio Bergnoli</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Birkenfeld%2C+T">Thilo Birkenfeld</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Blin%2C+S">Sylvie Blin</a> , et al. The expected signal anti-neutrino interaction rate is only 60 counts per day, therefore a careful control of the background sources due to radioactivity is critical. In particular, natural radioactivity present in all materials and in the environment represents a serious issue that could impair the sensitivity of the experiment if appropriate countermeasures were not foreseen. In this paper we discuss the background reduction strategies undertaken by the JUNO collaboration to reduce at minimum the impact of natural radioactivity. We describe our efforts for an optimized experimental design, a careful material screening and accurate detector production handling, and a constant control of the expected results through a meticulous Monte Carlo simulation program. We show that all these actions should allow us to keep the background count rate safely below the target value of 10 Hz in the default fiducial volume, above an energy threshold of 0.7 MeV. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('2107.03669v2-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('2107.03669v2-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">△ Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 13 October, 2021; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">v1</span> submitted 8 July, 2021; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> July 2021. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">35 pages, 12 figures</span> </p> </li> <li class="arxiv-result"> <div class="is-marginless"> <p class="list-title is-inline-block"><a href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2103.16900">arXiv:2103.16900</a> <span> [<a href="https://arxiv.org/pdf/2103.16900">pdf</a>, <a href="https://arxiv.org/format/2103.16900">other</a>] </span> </p> <div class="tags is-inline-block"> <span class="tag is-small is-link tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="Instrumentation and Detectors">physics.ins-det</span> </div> </div> <p class="title is-5 mathjax"> The Design and Sensitivity of JUNO's scintillator radiopurity pre-detector OSIRIS </p> <p class="authors"> <span class="search-hit">Authors:</span> <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=JUNO+Collaboration"> JUNO Collaboration</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Abusleme%2C+A">Angel Abusleme</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Adam%2C+T">Thomas Adam</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Ahmad%2C+S">Shakeel Ahmad</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Ahmed%2C+R">Rizwan Ahmed</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Aiello%2C+S">Sebastiano Aiello</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Akram%2C+M">Muhammad Akram</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=An%2C+F">Fengpeng An</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=An%2C+G">Guangpeng An</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=An%2C+Q">Qi An</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Andronico%2C+G">Giuseppe Andronico</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Anfimov%2C+N">Nikolay Anfimov</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Antonelli%2C+V">Vito Antonelli</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Antoshkina%2C+T">Tatiana Antoshkina</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Asavapibhop%2C+B">Burin Asavapibhop</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=de+Andr%C3%A9%2C+J+P+A+M">Jo茫o Pedro Athayde Marcondes de Andr茅</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Auguste%2C+D">Didier Auguste</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Babic%2C+A">Andrej Babic</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Baldini%2C+W">Wander Baldini</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Barresi%2C+A">Andrea Barresi</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Basilico%2C+D">Davide Basilico</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Baussan%2C+E">Eric Baussan</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Bellato%2C+M">Marco Bellato</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Bergnoli%2C+A">Antonio Bergnoli</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Birkenfeld%2C+T">Thilo Birkenfeld</a> , et al. In this article, we describe the design of new readout chambers and front-end electronics, which are driven by the goals of the experiment. Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM) detectors arranged in stacks containing four GEMs each, and continuous readout electronics based on the SAMPA chip, an ALICE development, are replacing the previous elements. The construction of these new elements, together with their associated quality control procedures, is explained in detail. Finally, the readout chamber and front-end electronics cards replacement, together with the commissioning of the detector prior to installation in the experimental cavern, are presented. After a nine-year period of R&D, construction, and assembly, the upgrade of the TPC was completed in 2020. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('2012.09518v2-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('2012.09518v2-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">△ Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 25 March, 2021; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">v1</span> submitted 17 December, 2020; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> December 2020. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">88 pages, 60 figures</span> </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Journal ref:</span> JINST 16 (2021) P03022 </p> </li> <li class="arxiv-result"> <div class="is-marginless"> <p class="list-title is-inline-block"><a href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2011.06405">arXiv:2011.06405</a> <span> [<a href="https://arxiv.org/pdf/2011.06405">pdf</a>, <a href="https://arxiv.org/format/2011.06405">other</a>] </span> </p> <div class="tags is-inline-block"> <span class="tag is-small is-link tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="Instrumentation and Detectors">physics.ins-det</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="High Energy Physics - Experiment">hep-ex</span> </div> <div class="is-inline-block" style="margin-left: 0.5rem"> <div class="tags has-addons"> <span class="tag is-dark is-size-7">doi</span> <span class="tag is-light is-size-7"><a class="" href="https://doi.org/10.1007/JHEP03(2021)004">10.1007/JHEP03(2021)004 <i class="fa fa-external-link" aria-hidden="true"></i></a></span> </div> </div> </div> <p class="title is-5 mathjax"> Calibration Strategy of the JUNO Experiment </p> <p class="authors"> <span class="search-hit">Authors:</span> <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=JUNO+collaboration"> JUNO collaboration</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Abusleme%2C+A">Angel Abusleme</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Adam%2C+T">Thomas Adam</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Ahmad%2C+S">Shakeel Ahmad</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Ahmed%2C+R">Rizwan Ahmed</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Aiello%2C+S">Sebastiano Aiello</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Akram%2C+M">Muhammad Akram</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=An%2C+F">Fengpeng An</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=An%2C+G">Guangpeng An</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=An%2C+Q">Qi An</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Andronico%2C+G">Giuseppe Andronico</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Anfimov%2C+N">Nikolay Anfimov</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Antonelli%2C+V">Vito Antonelli</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Antoshkina%2C+T">Tatiana Antoshkina</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Asavapibhop%2C+B">Burin Asavapibhop</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=de+Andr%C3%A9%2C+J+P+A+M">Jo茫o Pedro Athayde Marcondes de Andr茅</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Auguste%2C+D">Didier Auguste</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Babic%2C+A">Andrej Babic</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Baldini%2C+W">Wander Baldini</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Barresi%2C+A">Andrea Barresi</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Baussan%2C+E">Eric Baussan</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Bellato%2C+M">Marco Bellato</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Bergnoli%2C+A">Antonio Bergnoli</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Bernieri%2C+E">Enrico Bernieri</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Birkenfeld%2C+T">Thilo Birkenfeld</a> , et al. The optical properties of the new LS in various compositions were studied by replacing the gadolinium-loaded LS in one antineutrino detector. The concentrations of the fluor, PPO, and the wavelength shifter, bis-MSB, were increased in 12 steps from 0.5 g/L and <0.01 mg/L to 4 g/L and 13 mg/L, respectively. The numbers of total detected photoelectrons suggest that, with the optically purified solvent, the bis-MSB concentration does not need to be more than 4 mg/L. To bridge the one order of magnitude in the detector size difference between Daya Bay and JUNO, the Daya Bay data were used to tune the parameters of a newly developed optical model. Then, the model and tuned parameters were used in the JUNO simulation. This enabled to determine the optimal composition for the JUNO LS: purified solvent LAB with 2.5 g/L PPO, and 1 to 4 mg/L bis-MSB. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('2007.00314v1-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('2007.00314v1-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">△ Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 1 July, 2020; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> July 2020. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">13 pages, 8 figures</span> </p> </li> <li class="arxiv-result"> <div class="is-marginless"> <p class="list-title is-inline-block"><a href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2006.11760">arXiv:2006.11760</a> <span> [<a href="https://arxiv.org/pdf/2006.11760">pdf</a>, <a href="https://arxiv.org/format/2006.11760">other</a>] </span> </p> <div class="tags is-inline-block"> <span class="tag is-small is-link tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="High Energy Physics - Experiment">hep-ex</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="High Energy Physics - Phenomenology">hep-ph</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="Instrumentation and Detectors">physics.ins-det</span> </div> </div> <p class="title is-5 mathjax"> Feasibility and physics potential of detecting $^8$B solar neutrinos at JUNO </p> <p class="authors"> <span class="search-hit">Authors:</span> <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=JUNO+collaboration"> JUNO collaboration</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Abusleme%2C+A">Angel Abusleme</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Adam%2C+T">Thomas Adam</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Ahmad%2C+S">Shakeel Ahmad</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Aiello%2C+S">Sebastiano Aiello</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Akram%2C+M">Muhammad Akram</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Ali%2C+N">Nawab Ali</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=An%2C+F">Fengpeng An</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=An%2C+G">Guangpeng An</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=An%2C+Q">Qi An</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Andronico%2C+G">Giuseppe Andronico</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Anfimov%2C+N">Nikolay Anfimov</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Antonelli%2C+V">Vito Antonelli</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Antoshkina%2C+T">Tatiana Antoshkina</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Asavapibhop%2C+B">Burin Asavapibhop</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=de+Andr%C3%A9%2C+J+P+A+M">Jo茫o Pedro Athayde Marcondes de Andr茅</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Auguste%2C+D">Didier Auguste</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Babic%2C+A">Andrej Babic</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Baldini%2C+W">Wander Baldini</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Barresi%2C+A">Andrea Barresi</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Baussan%2C+E">Eric Baussan</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Bellato%2C+M">Marco Bellato</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Bergnoli%2C+A">Antonio Bergnoli</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Bernieri%2C+E">Enrico Bernieri</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Biare%2C+D">David Biare</a> , et al. Some of JUNO's features make it an excellent experiment for $^8$B solar neutrino measurements, such as its low-energy threshold, its high energy resolution compared to water Cherenkov detectors, and its much large target mass compared to previous liquid scintillator detectors. In this paper we present a comprehensive assessment of JUNO's potential for detecting $^8$B solar neutrinos via the neutrino-electron elastic scattering process. A reduced 2~MeV threshold on the recoil electron energy is found to be achievable assuming the intrinsic radioactive background $^{238}$U and $^{232}$Th in the liquid scintillator can be controlled to 10$^{-17}$~g/g. With ten years of data taking, about 60,000 signal and 30,000 background events are expected. This large sample will enable an examination of the distortion of the recoil electron spectrum that is dominated by the neutrino flavor transformation in the dense solar matter, which will shed new light on the tension between the measured electron spectra and the predictions of the standard three-flavor neutrino oscillation framework. If $螖m^{2}_{21}=4.8\times10^{-5}~(7.5\times10^{-5})$~eV$^{2}$, JUNO can provide evidence of neutrino oscillation in the Earth at the about 3$蟽$~(2$蟽$) level by measuring the non-zero signal rate variation with respect to the solar zenith angle. Moveover, JUNO can simultaneously measure $螖m^2_{21}$ using $^8$B solar neutrinos to a precision of 20\% or better depending on the central value and to sub-percent precision using reactor antineutrinos. A comparison of these two measurements from the same detector will help elucidate the current tension between the value of $螖m^2_{21}$ reported by solar neutrino experiments and the KamLAND experiment. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('2006.11760v1-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('2006.11760v1-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">△ Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 21 June, 2020; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> June 2020. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">29 pages, 14 plots, 7 tables</span> </p> </li> <li class="arxiv-result"> <div class="is-marginless"> <p class="list-title is-inline-block"><a href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2005.08745">arXiv:2005.08745</a> <span> [<a href="https://arxiv.org/pdf/2005.08745">pdf</a>, <a href="https://arxiv.org/format/2005.08745">other</a>] </span> </p> <div class="tags is-inline-block"> <span class="tag is-small is-link tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="Instrumentation and Detectors">physics.ins-det</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="High Energy Physics - Experiment">hep-ex</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="Nuclear Experiment">nucl-ex</span> </div> </div> <p class="title is-5 mathjax"> TAO Conceptual Design Report: A Precision Measurement of the Reactor Antineutrino Spectrum with Sub-percent Energy Resolution </p> <p class="authors"> <span class="search-hit">Authors:</span> <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=JUNO+Collaboration"> JUNO Collaboration</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Abusleme%2C+A">Angel Abusleme</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Adam%2C+T">Thomas Adam</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Ahmad%2C+S">Shakeel Ahmad</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Aiello%2C+S">Sebastiano Aiello</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Akram%2C+M">Muhammad Akram</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Ali%2C+N">Nawab Ali</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=An%2C+F">Fengpeng An</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=An%2C+G">Guangpeng An</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=An%2C+Q">Qi An</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Andronico%2C+G">Giuseppe Andronico</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Anfimov%2C+N">Nikolay Anfimov</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Antonelli%2C+V">Vito Antonelli</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Antoshkina%2C+T">Tatiana Antoshkina</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Asavapibhop%2C+B">Burin Asavapibhop</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=de+Andr%C3%A9%2C+J+P+A+M">Jo茫o Pedro Athayde Marcondes de Andr茅</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Auguste%2C+D">Didier Auguste</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Babic%2C+A">Andrej Babic</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Baldini%2C+W">Wander Baldini</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Barresi%2C+A">Andrea Barresi</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Baussan%2C+E">Eric Baussan</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Bellato%2C+M">Marco Bellato</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Bergnoli%2C+A">Antonio Bergnoli</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Bernieri%2C+E">Enrico Bernieri</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Biare%2C+D">David Biare</a> , et al. A ton-level liquid scintillator detector will be placed at about 30 m from a core of the Taishan Nuclear Power Plant. The reactor antineutrino spectrum will be measured with sub-percent energy resolution, to provide a reference spectrum for future reactor neutrino experiments, and to provide a benchmark measurement to test nuclear databases. A spherical acrylic vessel containing 2.8 ton gadolinium-doped liquid scintillator will be viewed by 10 m^2 Silicon Photomultipliers (SiPMs) of >50% photon detection efficiency with almost full coverage. The photoelectron yield is about 4500 per MeV, an order higher than any existing large-scale liquid scintillator detectors. The detector operates at -50 degree C to lower the dark noise of SiPMs to an acceptable level. The detector will measure about 2000 reactor antineutrinos per day, and is designed to be well shielded from cosmogenic backgrounds and ambient radioactivities to have about 10% background-to-signal ratio. The experiment is expected to start operation in 2022. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('2005.08745v1-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('2005.08745v1-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">△ Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 18 May, 2020; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> May 2020. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">134 pages, 114 figures</span> </p> </li> <li class="arxiv-result"> <div class="is-marginless"> <p class="list-title is-inline-block"><a href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1807.05680">arXiv:1807.05680</a> <span> [<a href="https://arxiv.org/pdf/1807.05680">pdf</a>, <a href="https://arxiv.org/format/1807.05680">other</a>] </span> </p> <div class="tags is-inline-block"> <span class="tag is-small is-link tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="Instrumentation and Detectors">physics.ins-det</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="High Energy Physics - Experiment">hep-ex</span> </div> <div class="is-inline-block" style="margin-left: 0.5rem"> <div class="tags has-addons"> <span class="tag is-dark is-size-7">doi</span> <span class="tag is-light is-size-7"><a class="" href="https://doi.org/10.1088/1748-0221/14/10/C10037">10.1088/1748-0221/14/10/C10037 <i class="fa fa-external-link" aria-hidden="true"></i></a></span> </div> </div> </div> <p class="title is-5 mathjax"> High Rate RPC detector for LHC </p> <p class="authors"> <span class="search-hit">Authors:</span> <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Lagarde%2C+F">F. The foreseen gradual increase of the instantaneous luminosity of up to more than twice its nominal value of $10\times10^{34}\ {\rm cm}^{-1}{\rm s}^{-2}$ during Phase I and Phase II of the LHC running, presents special challenges for the experiments. The region with high pseudo rapidity ($畏$) region of the forward muon spectrometer ($2.4 > |畏| > 1.9$) is not equipped with RPC stations. The increase of the expected particles rate up to 2 kHz cm$^{-1}$ ( including a safety factor 3 ) motivates the installation of RPC chambers to guarantee redundancy with the CSC chambers already present. The current CMS RPC technology cannot sustain the expected background level. A new generation of Glass-RPC (GRPC) using low-resistivity glass was proposed to equip the two most far away of the four high $畏$ muon stations of CMS. In their single-gap version they can stand rates of few kHz cm$^{-1}$. Their time precision of about 1 ns can allow to reduce the noise contribution leading to an improvement of the trigger rate. The proposed design for large size chambers is examined and some preliminary results obtained during beam tests at Gamma Irradiation Facility (GIF++) and Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) at CERN are shown. They were performed to validate the capability of such detectors to support high irradiation environment with limited consequence on their efficiency. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('1807.05680v1-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('1807.05680v1-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">△ Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 16 July, 2018; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> July 2018. </p> </li> <li class="arxiv-result"> <div class="is-marginless"> <p class="list-title is-inline-block"><a href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1606.04291">arXiv:1606.04291</a> <span> [<a href="https://arxiv.org/pdf/1606.04291">pdf</a>, <a href="https://arxiv.org/format/1606.04291">other</a>] </span> </p> <div class="tags is-inline-block"> <span class="tag is-small is-link tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="Instrumentation and Detectors">physics.ins-det</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="High Energy Physics - Experiment">hep-ex</span> </div> <div class="is-inline-block" style="margin-left: 0.5rem"> <div class="tags has-addons"> <span class="tag is-dark is-size-7">doi</span> <span class="tag is-light is-size-7"><a class="" href="https://doi.org/10.1088/1748-0221/11/09/C09017">10.1088/1748-0221/11/09/C09017 <i class="fa fa-external-link" aria-hidden="true"></i></a></span> </div> </div> </div> <p class="title is-5 mathjax"> R&D towards the CMS RPC Phase-2 upgrade </p> <p class="authors"> <span class="search-hit">Authors:</span> <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Fagot%2C+A">A. To achieve this goal in a reasonable time scale the instantaneous luminosity would also increase by an order of magnitude up to $6.10^{34} cm^{-2} s^{-1}$ . The region of the forward muon spectrometer ($|畏| > 1.6$) is not equipped with RPC stations. The increase of the expected particles rate up to $2 kHz/cm^{2}$ (including a safety factor 3) motivates the installation of RPC chambers to guarantee redundancy with the CSC chambers already present. The actual RPC technology of CMS cannot sustain the expected background level. The new technology that will be chosen should have a high rate capability and provides a good spatial and timing resolution. A new generation of Glass-RPC (GRPC) using low-resistivity (LR) glass is proposed to equip at least the two most far away of the four high $畏$ muon stations of CMS. First the design of small size prototypes and studies of their performance in high-rate particles flux is presented. Then the proposed designs for large size chambers and their fast-timing electronic readout are examined and preliminary results are provided. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('1606.01398v2-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('1606.01398v2-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">△ Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 22 July, 2016; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">v1</span> submitted 4 June, 2016; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> June 2016. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">14 pages, 11 figures, Conference proceeding for the 2016 Resistive Plate Chambers and Related Detectors</span> </p> </li> <li class="arxiv-result"> <div class="is-marginless"> <p class="list-title is-inline-block"><a href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1605.09138">arXiv:1605.09138</a> <span> [<a href="https://arxiv.org/pdf/1605.09138">pdf</a>, <a href="https://arxiv.org/format/1605.09138">other</a>] </span> </p> <div class="tags is-inline-block"> <span class="tag is-small is-link tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="Instrumentation and Detectors">physics.ins-det</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="High Energy Physics - Experiment">hep-ex</span> </div> <div class="is-inline-block" style="margin-left: 0.5rem"> <div class="tags has-addons"> <span class="tag is-dark is-size-7">doi</span> <span class="tag is-light is-size-7"><a class="" href="https://doi.org/10.1088/1748-0221/11/10/C10013">10.1088/1748-0221/11/10/C10013 <i class="fa fa-external-link" aria-hidden="true"></i></a></span> </div> </div> </div> <p class="title is-5 mathjax"> Detector Control System and Efficiency Performance for CMS RPC at GIF++ </p> <p class="authors"> <span class="search-hit">Authors:</span> <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Gul%2C+M">Muhammad Gul</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&query=Gonzalez%2C+G">Genoveva Gonzalez</a> </p> <p class="abstract mathjax"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Abstract</span>: <span class="abstract-short has-text-grey-dark mathjax" id="1605.09138v5-abstract-short" style="display: inline;"> In the framework of the High Luminosity LHC upgrade program, the CMS muon group built several different RPC prototypes that are now under test at the new CERN Gamma Irradiation Facility (GIF++). In the present study, we constructed real-sized double-gap and four-gap RPCs with gap thicknesses of 1.6 and 0.8 mm, respectively, with 2-mm-thick phenolic high-pressure-laminated (HPL) plates. We examined the prototype RPCs for cosmic rays and 100 GeV muons provided by the SPS H4 beam line at CERN. We applied maximum gamma rates of 1.5 kHz cm-2 provided by 137Cs sources at Korea University and the GIF++ irradiation facility installed at the SPS H4 beam line to examine the rate capabilities of the prototype RPCs. In contrast to the case of the four-gap RPCs, we found the relatively high threshold was conducive to effectively suppressing the rapid increase of strip cluster sizes of muon hits with high voltage, especially when measuring the narrow-pitch strips. The gamma-induced currents drawn in the four-gap RPC were about one-fourth of those drawn in the double-gap RPC. The rate capabilities of both RPC types, proven through the present testing using gamma-ray sources, far exceeded the maximum rate expected in the new high-畏 endcap RPCs planned for future phase-II LHC runs. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('1605.00440v2-abstract-full').style.display = 'none';
