made<MH4427a> king<MH4427a> over<MH5921> the kingdom<MH4438> of the Chaldeans<MH3778>— <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/9-2.htm"><b>2</b></a></span>in the first<MH259> year<MH8141> of his reign<MH4427a>, I, Daniel<MH1840>, observed<MH995> in the books<MH5612> the number<MH4557> of the years<MH8141> which<MH834> was <i>revealed as</i> the word<MH1697> of the LORD<MH3068> to Jeremiah<MH3414> the prophet<MH5030> for the completion<MH4390> of the desolations<MH2723> of Jerusalem<MH3389>, <i>namely,</i> seventy<MH7657> years<MH8141>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/9-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>So I gave<MH5414> my <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[a]</a></span>attention<MH6440> to the Lord<MH136> God<MH430>, to seek<MH1245> <i>Him by</i> prayer<MH8605> and pleading<MH8469>, with fasting<MH6685>, sackcloth<MH8242>, and ashes<MH665>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/9-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>I prayed<MH6419> to the LORD<MH3068> my God<MH430> and confessed<MH3034>, and said<MH559>, “Oh<MH577>, Lord<MH136>, the great<MH1419> and awesome<MH3372a> God<MH410>, who keeps<MH8104> His covenant<MH1285> and faithfulness<MH2617a> for those who love<MH157> Him and keep<MH8104> His commandments<MH4687>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/9-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>we have sinned<MH2398>, we have done<MH5753b> wrong<MH5753b>, and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>acted<MH7561> wickedly<MH7561> and rebelled<MH4775>, even turning<MH5493> aside<MH5493> from Your commandments<MH4687> and ordinances<MH4941>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/9-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>Moreover, we have not listened<MH8085> to Your servants<MH5650> the prophets<MH5030>, who<MH834> spoke<MH1696> in Your name<MH8034> to our kings<MH4428>, our leaders<MH8269>, our fathers<MH1>, and all<MH3605> the people<MH5971a> of the land<MH776>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/9-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>“Righteousness<MH6666> <i>belongs</i> to You, Lord<MH136>, but to us <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>open<MH6440> shame<MH1322>, as <i>it is</i> this<MH2088> day<MH3117>—to the men<MH376> of Judah<MH3063>, the inhabitants<MH3427> of Jerusalem<MH3389>, and all<MH3605> Israel<MH3478>, those who are nearby<MH7138> and those who are far<MH7350> away in all<MH3605> the countries<MH776> to which<MH834> You have driven<MH5080> them, because of their unfaithful<MH4603, 4604> deeds<MH4604> which<MH834> they have committed<MH4603> against You. <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/9-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span><span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>Open<MH6440> shame<MH1322> <i>belongs</i> to us, LORD<MH3068>, to our kings<MH4428>, our leaders<MH8269>, and our fathers<MH1>, because<MH834> we have sinned<MH2398> against You. <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/9-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>To the Lord<MH136> our God<MH430> <i>belong</i> compassion<MH7356> and forgiveness<MH5547>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>because<MH3588> we have rebelled<MH4775> against Him; <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/9-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>and we have not obeyed<MH8085> the voice<MH6963> of the LORD<MH3068> our God<MH430>, to walk<MH1980> in His <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>teachings<MH8451> which<MH834> He set<MH5414> before<MH6440> us through<MH3027> His servants<MH5650> the prophets<MH5030>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/9-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>Indeed, all<MH3605> Israel<MH3478> has violated<MH5674a> Your Law<MH8451> and turned<MH5493> aside<MH5493>, not obeying<MH8085> Your voice<MH6963>; so the curse<MH423> has gushed<MH5413> forth<MH5413> on us, along with the oath<MH7621> which<MH834> is written<MH3789> in the Law<MH8451> of Moses<MH4872> the servant<MH5650> of God<MH430>, because<MH3588> we have sinned<MH2398> against Him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/9-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>So He has confirmed<MH6965> His words<MH1697> which<MH834> He had spoken<MH1696> against<MH5921> us and against<MH5921> our <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>rulers<MH8199> who<MH834> ruled<MH8199> us, to bring<MH935> on us great<MH1419> disaster<MH7463a>; for under<MH8478> the entire<MH3605> heaven<MH8064> there has not been done<MH6213a> <i>anything</i> like what<MH3512c> was done<MH6213a> in Jerusalem<MH3389>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/9-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>Just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> it is written<MH3789> in the Law<MH8451> of Moses<MH4872>, all<MH3605> this<MH2088> disaster<MH7463a> has come<MH935> on us; yet we have not <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>sought<MH2470b> the favor<MH6440> of the LORD<MH3068> our God<MH430> by turning<MH7725> from our wrongdoing<MH5771> and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>giving<MH7919a> attention<MH7919a> to Your truth<MH571>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/9-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>So the LORD<MH3068> has <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>kept<MH8245> the disaster<MH7463a> in<MH8245> store<MH8245> and brought<MH935> it on us; for the LORD<MH3068> our God<MH430> is righteous<MH6662> with respect<MH5921> to all<MH3605> His deeds<MH4639> which<MH834> He has done<MH6213a>, but we have not obeyed<MH8085> His voice<MH6963>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/9-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>“And now<MH6258>, Lord<MH136>, our God<MH430>, <i>You</i> who<MH834> brought<MH3318> Your people<MH5971a> out<MH3318> of the land<MH776> of Egypt<MH4714> with a mighty<MH2389> hand<MH3027> and made<MH6213a> a name<MH8034> for Yourself, as <i>it is</i> this<MH2088> day<MH3117>—we have sinned<MH2398>, we have been<MH7561> wicked<MH7561>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/9-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>Lord<MH136>, in accordance with all<MH3605> Your <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>righteous<MH6666> acts<MH6666>, let now<MH4994> Your anger<MH639> and Your wrath<MH2534> turn<MH7725> away<MH7725> from Your city<MH5892b> Jerusalem<MH3389>, Your holy<MH6944> mountain<MH2022>; for because of our sins<MH2399> and the wrongdoings<MH5771> of our fathers<MH1>, Jerusalem<MH3389> and Your people<MH5971a> <i>have become</i> an object<MH2781> of<MH2781> taunting<MH2781> to all<MH3605> those around<MH5439> us. <span Open<MH6491b> Your eyes<MH5869> and see<MH7200> our desolations<MH8074> and the city<MH5892b> which<MH834> is called<MH7121> by Your name<MH8034>; for we are not <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>presenting<MH5307> our pleas<MH8469> before<MH6440> You based<MH5921> on <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>any merits<MH6666> of our own, but based<MH5921> on Your great<MH7227a> compassion<MH7356>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/9-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>Lord<MH136>, hear<MH8085>! Lord<MH136>, forgive<MH5545>! Lord<MH136>, listen<MH7181> and take<MH6213a> action<MH6213a>! For Your own sake<MH4616>, my God<MH430>, do not delay<MH309>, because<MH3588> Your city<MH5892b> and Your people<MH5971a> are called<MH7121> by Your name<MH8034>.” <p class="hdg">Gabriel Brings an Answer</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/9-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>While I was still<MH5750> speaking<MH1696> and praying<MH6419>, and confessing<MH3034> my sin<MH2403b> and the sin<MH2403b> of my people<MH5971a> Israel<MH3478>, and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>presenting<MH5307> my plea<MH8467> before<MH6440> the LORD<MH3068> my God<MH430> in<MH5921> behalf<MH5921> of<MH5921> the holy<MH6944> mountain<MH2022> of my God<MH430>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/9-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>while I was still<MH5750> speaking<MH1696> in prayer<MH8605>, the man<MH376> Gabriel<MH1403>, whom<MH834> I had seen<MH7200> in the vision<MH2377> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>previously<MH8462>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>came<MH5060> to me <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[r]</a></span>in <i>my</i> extreme<MH3286> weariness<MH3288> about the time<MH6256> of the evening<MH6153> offering<MH4503>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/9-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>And he instructed<MH995> <i>me</i> and talked<MH1696> with me and said<MH559>, “Daniel<MH1840>, I have come<MH3318> now<MH6258> to give<MH7919a> you insight<MH7919a> with understanding<MH998>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/9-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>At the beginning<MH8462> of your pleas<MH8469> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[s]</a></span>command<MH1697> was issued<MH3318>, and I have come<MH935> to tell<MH5046> <i>you,</i> because<MH3588> you are <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[t]</a></span>highly<MH2536b> esteemed<MH2536b>; so pay<MH995> attention<MH995> to the message<MH1697> and gain<MH995> understanding<MH995> of the vision<MH4758>. <p class="hdg">Seventy Weeks and the Messiah</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/9-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>“Seventy<MH7657> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[u]</a></span>weeks<MH7620> have been decreed<MH2852> for your people<MH5971a> and your holy<MH6944> city<MH5892b>, to <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[v]</a></span>finish<MH3615> the wrongdoing<MH6588>, to <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[w]</a></span>make<MH8552> an<MH8552> end<MH8552> of<MH8552> sin<MH2403b>, to make<MH3722a> atonement<MH3722a> for guilt<MH5771>, to bring<MH935> in<MH935> everlasting<MH5769> righteousness<MH6664>, to seal<MH2856> up<MH2856> vision<MH2377> and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[x]</a></span>prophecy<MH5030>, and to anoint<MH4886> the Most<MH6944> Holy<MH6944> Place<MH6944>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/9-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>So you are to know<MH3045> and understand<MH7919a> <i>that</i> from the issuing<MH4161> of a <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[y]</a></span>decree<MH1697> to restore<MH7725> and rebuild<MH1129> Jerusalem<MH3389>, until<MH5704> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[z]</a></span>Messiah<MH4899> the Prince<MH5057>, <i>there will be</i> seven<MH7655> weeks<MH7620> and sixty-two<MH8346, 8147> weeks<MH7620>; it will be built<MH1129> again<MH7725>, <i>with</i> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[aa]</a></span>streets<MH7339> and moat<MH2742c>, even in times<MH6256> of distress<MH6695a>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/9-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>Then after<MH310> the sixty-two<MH8346, 8147> weeks<MH7620>, the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[ab]</a></span>Messiah<MH4899> will be cut<MH3772> off<MH3772> and have<MH369> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[ac]</a></span>nothing<MH369>, and the people<MH5971a> of the prince<MH5057> who is to come<MH935> will destroy<MH7843> the city<MH5892b> and the sanctuary<MH6944>.
