The concept was insprired by an appreciation of the quality and upkeep of several favorite PC gaming news sites read daily while working for a little <a href="https://www.epicgames.com/">gaming company</a>. At the time, there existed an obvious void of quality updated sites in the metal community, so I decided to create one.</p> <p>My first attempt was short-lived, as a plain HTML site was too much work to keep it as up to date as I wanted. Soon after, I became more experienced in professional web development and began planning an ambitious database-driven site, despite the presence of several excellent metal sites that had risen to popularity by then. Striving to become a premiere metal news site, Metalunderground.com kept cranking out news from a variety of sources (other sites and many, many newsletters), all the while gaining in readership and popularity. Metalunderground.com peaked at more than 750,000 page views and 300,000 unique visitors per month.</p> <p>Today Metalunderground.com has been going for more than twenty years, with a <a href="/about_us/staff/">staff</a> that includes a number of professional and freelance writers, columnists and volunteers, and our <a href="/news/">news headlines and articles</a> are aggregated and displayed on dozens of other sites around the world.</p> <p>While not always at the forefront of our daily activities, one of our primary goals is and always has been to help people <a href="/features/discover_new_metal_music/">discover new metal bands and music</a> - music that fits their tastes and underground bands they may never have heard of otherwise.
