Silverman, MD, </strong>vascular neurologist at Massachusetts General Hospital Institute for Heart, Vascular and Stroke Care, discusses results from the ENGAGE AF-TIMI 48 study presented at the International Stroke Conference.</p> <p>The trial compared low and high doses of the novel oral anticoagulant edoxaban (Savaysa, Daiichi Sankyo) to warfarin in more than 21,000 patients with known atrial fibrillation. Silverman said that both doses of edoxaban yielded lower rates of hemorrhagic stroke and intracranial hemorrhage than warfarin, and that the higher dose of edoxaban had identical ischemic stroke rates to warfarin.
