Cancer genomics involves the study of the cancer genome, its sequence, and the differential expression of genes between tumor cells and normal cells. This area of study is aimed at understanding the genetics underlying cancer cell proliferation, and the development of the cancer genome in response to mutational pressure provided by the microenvironment. Of late, thanks to the next generation sequencing, several advances have been made towards the characterization of mutations and structural alterations associated with a wide variety of cancers. The analysis of cancer genomes has shed light on genetic abnormalities that drive the growth and development of many cancers, this information has improved our understanding of cancer biology, resulting in newer and better diagnostics and interventions. The understanding of cancer genomics might even open doors to personalized medicine in the near future.

Journals related to Cancer Genomics

Journal of Cancer Science & Therapy, Journal of Integrative Oncology, Journal of Oncopathology and Clinical Research, Journal of Clinical & Medical Genomics, Cellular and Molecular Biology, Archives of Surgical Oncology, Human Genetics & Embryology.

Immuno-oncology

Immuno-oncology or cancer immunotheraphy is treatment use to treat the cancer with the help of immune system. Cancer ceLls have tumour-associated antigens (TAAs) on their surface which can be removed by immunotheraphy. Different types of immunotherapy are use such as Monoclonal antibodies which are man made proteins, Immune checkpoint inhibitors the drugs which attacks onco cells by recognizing them. Cancer vaccines are avilable which can prevent cancer by boosting immune system.

Journals related to Targeted Therapy

Journal of Cancer Research and Immuno-Oncology, Immunotherapy: Open Access, Journal of Immunobiology, Journal of Molecular Immunology, Journal of Clinical & Cellular Immunology, Immunome Research, Immunology: Current Research

Targeted Therapy

Treating cancer and/or its metastasis by obstructing a specific biomolecular or cytological pathway, exclusive to the cancer cells, is defined as targeted therapy. Since, most of the conventional modes of cancer treatment focus on just inhibiting the rapid growth and division of cancer cells without targeting any specific key factor, their therapeutic efficiency is compromised. In most cases this can be attributed to the simultaneous nonspecific side effects caused by the chemotherapeutic agents or exposure to high energy radiations. Conversely, the targeted therapy is aimed to impair the expression or function of already identified molecule that may be responsible for carcinogenesis. This novel approach may involve formulation and application of specifically designed biopharmaceuticals or nano-engineered enzymes. It has been proposed that targeted therapy is quite possibly the future of onco-therapy that may one day help in complete elimination of cancer cells from the body.

Journals related to Targeted Therapy

Cancer Biology and Therapeutic Oncology, Journal of Integrative Oncology, Cancer Treatment Reviews, Pediatrics & Therapeutics, British Biomedical Bulletin, Journal of Imaging and Interventional Radiology, Immunotherapy: Open Access

Biopsy

The diagnosis of a disease whose symptoms are yet to be manifested involves the study of immunohistochemistry and other histopathological factors. The importance of such procedures becomes ever so evident during the diagnosis of non-infectious cellular outgrowths or tumors. In such cases, the surgeon or the interventional radiologist extracts whole or portion of the abnormal outgrowth and sends it for further analysis. These specialized analyses include microscopic, histological, cytological and even molecular analysis (genomic/proteomic profiling), the results of which may be used to validate or negate the possibility of occurrence of cancer. Furthermore, biopsy also helps in estimating the exact stage of the disease progression, which is essential for selecting a suitable treatment/management regimen.

Journals related to Biopsy

Journal of Oncology Translational Research, Journal of Cancer Diagnosis, International Cancer Diagnostics, Head and Neck Cancer Research, Journal of Lung Cancer Diagnosis & Treatment

Oncology Palliative Care

It has been observed in many instances; the patients may experience symptoms and seek treatment only after the cancer has advanced to stages where there are little chances of reversing its effects. In such cases, the patients are declared terminal. The process of taking care of such terminally ill patients is represented as oncology palliative care. In such cases, the palliative care providers’ aim is to better the quality of life of the patient till the day he/she lives. This may sometimes involve discontinuing chemotherapy to limit the critical side effects caused by them. Apart from taking care of the treatment regimen, the palliative care providers also provide emotional and mental support to the patients and sometimes even their family members.

Journals related to Oncology Pallative Care

Journal of Palliative Care & Medicine, Advances in Cancer Prevention, Cancer Causes & Control, Journal of Cancer Policy, Cancer Medicine & Anti-Cancer Drugs

Oncology Therapy

Methods and practices that may directly or indirectly help in the treatment of cancer are categorized as oncology therapy. The multifactorial etiology and symptomatic manifestation of cancer necessitates the administration of multidimensional treatment methods, either alone or in combination. The most important types of oncology therapy include chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgical excision of the tumour, immunotherapy and/or alternative medicines. It is difficult to say which one of these types of therapy is most preferable and effective. Hence, the physician may choose to apply one or a combination of therapies depending upon the nature and stage of the disease. The applicability as well as affectivity of most of these therapies is limited due to their non-specific response and side effects that hamper the normal functioning of healthy cells. In order to overcome these discrepancies scientists have been working on the development of highly specific nanotechnology based targeted therapy.

Journals related to Oncology Therapy

Journal of Bimolecular Research & Therapeutics, Journal of Cancer Science & Therapy, Archives of Surgical Oncology, International Journal of Inflammation, Cancer and Integrative Therapy, Chemotherapy Journal, Radiology Journals

Stem-cell Transplant

A stem cell transplant is prescribed as a treatment for some cancer types; it is also used to treat certain blood disorders. Previously, stem-cell transplants were referred to as “bone marrow transplants”, as the stem cells were harvested from the bone marrow. Today, stem cells are harvested from the blood instead of the bone marrow, and are therefore termed stem cell transplants. Stem cell transplantation involves administration of large doses of chemo or radiotherapy in order to eliminate cancer in the bone marrow, and then restoring the normal blood cell production, by replacing the unhealthy blood cells with healthy ones. There are five main types of stem-cell transplants: (1) Autologous transplantation, (2) Allogeneic transplantation, (3) Umbilical cord blood transplant, (4) Haplotype mismatched transplantation, and (5) Reduced-intensity stem cell transplantation.

Journals related to Stem- Cell Transplant

Journal of Stem Cell Research & Therapy, Journal of Gastrointestinal Cancer and Stromal Tumors, Journal of Transplantation Technologies & Research, Journal of Leukemia, Journal of Blood Disorders & Transfusion, Journal of Hematology & Thromboembolic Diseases

Urothelial Carcinoma (UCC)

Urothelial carcinoma also known as Transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) is the cancer of urinary system. It affects bladder, ureter, urethra, and urachus. In bladder cancer tumor strts from linnings of bladder i.e transitional epithelium. Bladder cancer may be non invasive which are not spread in inner deep layers or invasive which grows upto deep layers of bladder hence difficult to treat.

Journals Related to Urothelial Carcinoma

Journal of Cancer Science & Therapy, Medical & Surgical Urology, Journal of Adenocarcinoma, Journal of Carcinogenesis & Mutagenesis, Journal of Leukemia

Peritoneal Carcinoma

Peritoneal cancer is a rare type of cancer that develops in the peritoneum, a thin layer of epithelial tissue lining the abdomen. Peritoneal cancer is also called peritoneal surface malignancy (PSM), peritoneal metastases, peritoneal carcinomatosis, or pseudomyxomaperitonei (PMP). Peritoneal cancer is usually confused with ovarian cancer, as the outer layer of ovaries is covered with epithelial tissue. Primary peritoneal cancer is more frequent in women than in men; women at the risk of ovarian cancer are also at an increased risk of peritoneal cancer, especially if they have BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations. Old age is another predisposing factor for peritoneal cancer. As the symptoms are too vague, it is very difficult to detect peritoneal cancer in its early stages. As of today, peritoneal cancer is incurable.

Journals relted to Peritoneal Carcinoma

Carcinogenesis & Mutagenesis, Gastrointestinal Cancer Journal, Archives in Cancer Research, JOP Journal of the Pancreas

Myeloma

Myeloma a cancer of plasma cells which are White Blood Cells, helps in fighting disease by producing antibodies. Myeloma develops in bone marrow where Blood Cells made. The plasma cells after myeloma becomes cancerous and multiplies, lost infection fighting property. The myeloma cells commonly produce substances that cause bone destruction, leading to bone pain and/or fractures.
