Located there is the world headquarters of <a href="http://web.archive.org/web/20090918005350/http://www.stickergiant.com/">StickerGiant</a>, the awesome company that we use to print our <a href="http://web.archive.org/web/20090918005350/http://laughingsquid.com/laughing-squid-stickers/">Laughing Squid stickers</a>. Sxip is working on his next album “SONIC NEW YORK – 15 Punk Rockers Pounding a Piano Into Junk” and he’s using <a href="http://web.archive.org/web/20090918005350/http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sxipshirey/release-sxip-shireys-sonic-new-york-15-punk-r"> Kickstarter to raise $5000 to complete the project</a>, so consider helping out if you enjoy Sxip’s music.</p> <blockquote><p> I’ve been working on my new album, “SONIC NEW YORK – 15 Punk Rockers Pounding a Piano Into Junk” The album is turning out to be quite mad and quite beautiful. 18 tracks.</p> <p>It’s all the experimental Sxip sounds you love driven by object melodies, trip hop human beat box, prepared tuba and drumNbassNbells and also some very very pretty songs with guitars and virtual oil drums. Then I shop it around to labels or release it myself. Think of this as a gift, with a gift in return, because we all know that CD’s are archaic media, like 78s. They created the flowers for Toyota in conjunction with their <a href="http://web.archive.org/web/20090918005350/http://www.toyota.com/prius-hybrid/commercial.html">Prius “Harmony” campaign</a>.</p> <blockquote><p> This traveling installation consists of 5 wi-fi enabled flower sculptures which each include seating for 10 people. In response Varnish has selected a group of over 25 artists to transform the gallery over the coming months as part of <a href="http://web.archive.org/web/20090918005350/http://varnishfineart.com/events/index.php?e=577">Project Wrecking Ball</a>.</p> <blockquote><p>By continually changing the eviction/demolition date, short-notice, the government agency in charge of demo (Transbay Joint Powers Authority) has blocked Varnish’s ability to schedule further art shows, as they have since opening over six years ago. Instead, a fabulous group of invited artists will leave their studios in the Bay Area and beyond to create artwork on-site throughout the main gallery for this ongoing art event. The varied artwork will be created in paint, encaustic and photo-emulsion directly on the brick walls and on panels in addition to metal sculpture and kinetic art installations.</p> <p>The Project Wrecking Ball artists include: Jennybird Alcantara, Beth Bojarski, Vance Cerley, Dave Correia, Kevin Evans, Albert DiCruttalo, Ezra Li Eizmont, Joshua Hagler, Kal Spelletich, Dan Romo, Annie Owens, Chuck Sperry, Reuben Rude, Michael Page, Sri Zeno Whipple, Brad Isdrab, Stephanie Morgan, Sofia Sharpe, Zoe Ani, Karl Reichley, Pierre Merkl, Winston Smith, Sharon Leong, Rob Racine, Lucien Shapiro, Jon Wayshak, Rob Reger, and more.</p> <p>A San Francisco agency, the Transbay Joint Powers Authority (TJPA), is eliminating at least thirty three small, local businesses, including Varnish Fine Art, and numerous residences in order to demolish all properties and later resell land to fund their project. The TJPA is forcing Varnish, among the first tenants and years before the end of the lease, to vacate its nearly 100 year-old building for demolition. He uses a microscope, fibers, and a meditative trance to sculpt minute figures and scenes that fit on the head of a pin. He uses his heartbeat as a jackhammer, and runs the risk of inhaling his works with every breathe.
