<p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The availability, the ecologic and economic characteristics of wood are advantages which explain the very wide scope of applications of this material, in several domains such as paper industry, furniture, carpentry and building. However, wood is a hygroscopic material highly sensitive to ambient humidity and temperature. The swelling and the shrinking caused by water absorption and desorption cycles lead to crack and deformation in the wood volume, making it incompatible for such applications. In this study, dynamic fluorination using F2 gas was applied to wood samples (douglas and silver fir species) to decrease their hydrophilic character. The covalent grafting of fluorine atoms onto wood surface through a conversion of C-OH group into C-F was validated by Fourier-Transform infrared spectroscopy and 19F solid state Nuclear Magnetic Resonance. It revealed that the wood, which is initially hydrophilic, acquired a hydrophobic character comparable to that of the Teflon, thanks to fluorination. A good durability of this treatment was also determined by aging tests under ambient atmosphere and under UV irradiation. Moreover, this treatment allowed obtaining hydrophobic character without major structural (morphology, density and colour) or mechanical changes. The maintaining of these properties after fluorination, which requires neither toxic solvent nor heating, appears as a remarkable advantage over other more traditional physical and chemical wood treatments. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cellulose" title="cellulose">cellulose</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spectroscopy" title=" spectroscopy"> spectroscopy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=surface%20treatment" title=" surface treatment"> surface treatment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=water%20absorption" title=" water absorption"> water absorption</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/72715/fluorination-renders-the-wood-surface-hydrophobic-without-any-loos-of-physical-and-mechanical-properties" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/72715.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">202</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12</span> Contribution of Hydrogen Peroxide in the Selective Aspect of Prostate Cancer Treatment by Cold Atmospheric Plasma</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maxime%20Moreau">Maxime Moreau</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Silv%C3%A8re%20Baron"> Silvère Baron</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jean-Marc%20Lobaccaro"> Jean-Marc Lobaccaro</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Karine%20Charlet"> Karine Charlet</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=S%C3%A9bastien%20Menecier"> Sébastien Menecier</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fr%C3%A9d%C3%A9ric%20Perisse"> Frédéric Perisse</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Cold Atmospheric Plasma (CAP) is an ionized gas generated at atmospheric pressure with the temperature of heavy particles (molecules, ions, atoms) close to the room temperature. Recent studies have shown that both in-vitro and in-vivo plasma exposition to many cancer cell lines are efficient to induce the apoptotic way of cell death. In some other works, normal cell lines seem to be less impacted by plasma than cancer cell lines. This is called selectivity of plasma. It is highly likely that the generated RNOS (Reactive Nitrogen Oxygen Species) in the plasma jet, but also in the medium, play a key-role in this selectivity. In this study, two CAP devices will be compared to electrical power, chemical species composition and their efficiency to kill cancer cells. A particular focus on the action of hydrogen peroxide will be made. The experiments will take place as described next for both devices: electrical and spectroscopic characterization for different voltages, plasma treatment of normal and cancer cells to compare the CAP efficiency between cell lines and to show that death is induced by an oxidative stress. To enlighten the importance of hydrogen peroxide, an inhibitor of H2O2 will be added in cell culture medium before treatment and a comparison will be made between the results of cell viability in this case and those from a simple plasma exposition. Besides, H2O2 production will be measured by only treating medium with plasma. Cell lines will also be exposed to different concentrations of hydrogen peroxide in order to characterize the cytotoxic threshold for cells and to make a comparison with the quantity of H2O2 produced by CAP devices. Finally, the activity of catalase for different cell lines will be quantified. This enzyme is an important antioxidant agent against hydrogen peroxide. A correlation between cells response to plasma exposition and this activity could be a strong argument in favor of the predominant role of H2O2 to explain the selectivity of plasma cancer treatment by cold atmospheric plasma. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cold%20atmospheric%20plasma" title="cold atmospheric plasma">cold atmospheric plasma</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hydrogen%20peroxide" title=" hydrogen peroxide"> hydrogen peroxide</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=prostate%20cancer" title=" prostate cancer"> prostate cancer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=selectivity" title=" selectivity"> selectivity</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/153096/contribution-of-hydrogen-peroxide-in-the-selective-aspect-of-prostate-cancer-treatment-by-cold-atmospheric-plasma" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/153096.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">148</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">11</span> Nazca: A Context-Based Matching Method for Searching Heterogeneous Structures</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Karine%20B.%20de%20Oliveira">Karine B. de Oliveira</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Carina%20F.%20Dorneles"> Carina F. This is a challenge due to large number of distinct representations of semantically similar structures. This paper describes a structure-based matching method applied to search for different representations in data sources, considering the similarity between elements of two structures and the data source context. Using real data sources, we have conducted an experimental study comparing our approach with our baseline implementation and with another important schema matching approach. We demonstrate that our proposal reaches higher precision than the baseline. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=context" title="context">context</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=data%20source" title=" data source"> data source</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=index" title=" index"> index</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=matching" title=" matching"> matching</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=search" title=" search"> search</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=similarity" title=" similarity"> similarity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=structure" title=" structure"> structure</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/4417/nazca-a-context-based-matching-method-for-searching-heterogeneous-structures" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/4417.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">364</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">10</span> Normally Closed Thermoplastic Microfluidic Valves with Microstructured Valve Seats: A Strategy to Avoid Permanently Bonded Valves during Channel Sealing</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kebin%20Li">Kebin Li</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Keith%20Morton"> Keith Morton</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Matthew%20Shiu"> Matthew Shiu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Karine%20Turcotte"> Karine Turcotte</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Luke%20Lukic"> Luke Lukic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Teodor%20Veres"> Teodor Veres</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> We present a normally closed thermoplastic microfluidic valve design that uses microstructured valve seats to locally prevent the membrane from bonding to the valve seat during microfluidic channel sealing. The microstructured valve seat reduces the adhesion force between the contact surfaces of the valve seat and the membrane locally, allowing valve open and close operations while simultaneously providing a permanent and robust bond elsewhere to cover and seal the microfluidic channel network. Dynamic valve operation including opening and closing times can be tuned by changing the valve seat diameter as well as the density of the microstructures on the valve seats. The influence of the microstructured valve seat on the general flow behavior through the microfluidic devices was also studied. A design window for the fabrication of valve structure is identified and discussed to minimize the fabrication complexity. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hot-embossing" title="hot-embossing">hot-embossing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=injection%20molding" title=" injection molding"> injection molding</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=microfabrication" title=" microfabrication"> microfabrication</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=microfluidics" title=" microfluidics"> microfluidics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=microvalves" title=" microvalves"> microvalves</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=thermoplastic%20elastomer" title=" thermoplastic elastomer"> thermoplastic elastomer</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/104819/normally-closed-thermoplastic-microfluidic-valves-with-microstructured-valve-seats-a-strategy-to-avoid-permanently-bonded-valves-during-channel-sealing" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/104819.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">294</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">9</span> Biomarkers in a Post-Stroke Population: Allied to Health Care in Brazil</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Michael%20Ricardo%20Lang">Michael Ricardo Lang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Adri%C3%A9Lle%20Costa"> AdriéLle Costa</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ivana%20%20Iesbik"> Ivana Iesbik</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Karine%20%20Haag"> Karine Haag</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Leonardo%20Trindade%20Buffara"> Leonardo Trindade Buffara</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Oscar%20Reimann%20Junior"> Oscar Reimann Junior</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chelin%20Auswaldt%20Steclan"> Chelin Auswaldt Steclan</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Stroke affects not only the individual, but has significant impacts on the social and family context. Therefore, it is necessary to know the peculiarities of each region, in order to contribute to regional public health policies effectively. Thus, the present study discusses biomarkers in a post-stroke population, admitted to a stroke unit (U-stroke) of reference in the southern region of Brazil. Biomarkers were analyzed, such as age, length of stay, mortality rate, survival time, risk factors and family history of stroke in patients after ischemic stroke. In this studied population, comparing men and women, it was identified that men were more affected than women, and the average age of women affected was higher, as they also had the highest mortality rate and the shortest hospital stay. The risk factors identified here were according to the global scenario; with SAH being the most frequent and those associated with sedentary lifestyle in women the most frequent (dyspilipidemia, heart disease and obesity). In view of this, the importance of studies that characterize populations regionally is evident, strengthening the strategic planning of policies in favor of health care. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=biomarkers" title="biomarkers">biomarkers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sex" title=" sex"> sex</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stroke" title=" stroke"> stroke</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stroke%20unit" title=" stroke unit"> stroke unit</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=population" title=" population"> population</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/134999/biomarkers-in-a-post-stroke-population-allied-to-health-care-in-brazil" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/134999.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">267</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8</span> Characterization of Mg/Sc System for X-Ray Spectroscopy in the Water Window Range</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hina%20Verma">Hina Verma</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Karine%20Le%20Guen"> Karine Le Guen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammed%20H.%20Modi"> Mohammed H. The water window range, located between the absorption edges of carbon (285 eV) and oxygen (530eV), along with the presence of nitrogen K absorption edge (395 eV), makes it a powerful method for imaging biological samples due to the natural optical contrast between water and carbon. We characterized bilayer, trilayer, quadrilayer, and multilayer systems of Mg/Sc with ZrC thin layers introduced as a barrier layer and capping layer prepared by ion beam sputtering. The introduction of ZrC as a barrier layer is expected to improve the structure of the Mg/Sc system. The ZrC capping layer also prevents the stack from oxidation. The structural analysis of the Mg/Sc systems was carried out by using grazing incidence X-ray reflectivity (GIXRR) to obtain non-destructively a first description of the structural parameters, thickness, roughness, and density of the layers. Resonant soft X-ray reflectivity measurements in the vicinity of Sc L-absorption edge were performed to investigate and quantify the atomic distribution of deposited layers. Near absorption edge, the atomic scattering factor of an element changes sharply depending on its chemical environment inside the structure. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=buried%20interfaces" title="buried interfaces">buried interfaces</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=resonant%20soft%20X-ray%20reflectivity" title=" resonant soft X-ray reflectivity"> resonant soft X-ray reflectivity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=X-ray%20optics" title=" X-ray optics"> X-ray optics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=X-ray%20reflectivity" title=" X-ray reflectivity"> X-ray reflectivity</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/137075/characterization-of-mgsc-system-for-x-ray-spectroscopy-in-the-water-window-range" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/137075.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">178</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">7</span> Study of Buried Interfaces in Fe/Si Multilayer by Hard X-Ray Emission Spectroscopy</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hina%20Verma">Hina Verma</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Karine%20Le%20Guen"> Karine Le Guen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Renaud%20Dalaunay"> Renaud Dalaunay</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Iyas%20Ismail"> Iyas Ismail</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vita%20Ilakovac"> Vita Ilakovac</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jean%20Pascal%20Rueff"> Jean Pascal Rueff</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yunlin%20Jacques%20Zheng"> Yunlin Jacques Zheng</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Philippe%20Jonnard"> Philippe Jonnard</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> To the extent of our knowledge, X-ray emission spectroscopy (XES) has been applied in the soft x-ray region (photon energy ≤ 2 keV) to study the buried layers and interfaces of stacks of nanometer-thin films. Now we extend the methodology to study the buried interfaces in the hard X-ray region (i.e., ≥ five keV). The emission spectra allow us to study the interactions between elements in the buried layers from the analysis of their valence states, thereby providing sensitive information about the physical-chemical environment of the emitting element in multilayers. We exploit the chemical sensitivity of XES to study the interfaces between Fe and Si layers in the Fe/Si multilayer from the Fe Kβ₂,₅ emission spectra (7108 eV). The Fe Kβ₅ emission line results from the electronic transition from occupied 3d to 1s levels (i.e., valence to core transition) and is hence sensitive to the chemical state of emitting Fe atoms. The comparison of emission spectra recorded for Fe/Si multilayer with Fe and FeSi₂ references reveal the formation of FeSi₂ at the Fe-Si interfaces inside the multilayer stack. The interfacial thickness was calculated to be 1.4 ± 0.2 nm by taking into consideration the intensity of Fe atoms emitted from the interface and the Fe layer. The formation of FeSi₂ at the interface was further confirmed by the X-ray diffraction and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy done on the Fe/Si multilayer. Hence, we can conclude that the XES in the hard X-ray range could be used to study multilayers and their interfaces and obtain information both qualitatively and quantitatively. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=buried%20interfaces" title="buried interfaces">buried interfaces</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hard%20X-ray%20emission%20spectroscopy" title=" hard X-ray emission spectroscopy"> hard X-ray emission spectroscopy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=X-ray%20diffraction" title=" X-ray diffraction"> X-ray diffraction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=X-ray%20photoelectron%20spectroscopy" title=" X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy"> X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/136026/study-of-buried-interfaces-in-fesi-multilayer-by-hard-x-ray-emission-spectroscopy" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/136026.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">143</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6</span> Effect of Temperature on the Properties of Cement Paste Modified with Nanoparticles</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Karine%20Pimenta%20Teixeira">Karine Pimenta Teixeira</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jessica%20Flores"> Jessica Flores</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Isadora%20Perdig%C3%A3O%20Rocha"> Isadora PerdigãO Rocha</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Leticia%20De%20S%C3%A1%20Carneiro"> Leticia De Sá Carneiro</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mahsa%20Kamali"> Mahsa Kamali</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ali%20Ghahremaninezhad"> Ali Ghahremaninezhad</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The advent of nanotechnology has enabled innovative solutions towards improving the behavior of infrastructure materials. Nanomaterials have the potential to revolutionize the construction industry by improving the performance and durability of construction materials, as well as imparting new functionalities to these materials. Due to variability in the environmental temperature during mixing and curing of cementitious materials in practice, it is important to understand how curing temperature influences the behavior of cementitious materials. In addition, high temperature curing is relevant in applications such as oil well cement and precast industry. Knowledge of the influence of temperature on the performance of cementitious materials modified with nanoparticles is important in the nanoengineering of cementitious materials in applications such as oil well cement and precast industry. This presentation aims to investigate the influence of temperature on the hydration, mechanical properties and durability of cementitious materials modified with TiO2 nanoparticles. It was found that temperature improved the early hydration. The cement pastes cured at high temperatures showed an increase in the compressive strength at early age but the strength gain decreased at late ages. The electrical resistivity of the cement pastes cured at high temperatures was shown to decrease more noticeably at late ages compared to that of the room temperature cured cement paste. SEM examination indicated that hydration product was more uniformly distributed in the microstructure of the cement paste cured at room temperature compared to the cement pastes cured at high temperature. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cement%20paste" title="cement paste">cement paste</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nanoparticles" title=" nanoparticles"> nanoparticles</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=temperature" title=" temperature"> temperature</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hydration" title=" hydration"> hydration</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/59309/effect-of-temperature-on-the-properties-of-cement-paste-modified-with-nanoparticles" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/59309.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">317</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">5</span> Improving Collective Health and Social Care through a Better Consideration of Sex and Gender: Analytical Report by the French National Authority for Health</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Thomas%20Suarez">Thomas Suarez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Anne-Sophie%20Grenouilleau"> Anne-Sophie Grenouilleau</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Erwan%20Autin"> Erwan Autin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alexandre%20Biosse-Duplan"> Alexandre Biosse-Duplan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Emmanuelle%20Blondet"> Emmanuelle Blondet</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Laurence%20Chazalette"> Laurence Chazalette</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marie%20Coniel"> Marie Coniel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Agnes%20Dessaigne"> Agnes Dessaigne</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sylvie%20Lascols"> Sylvie Lascols</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Andrea%20Lasserre"> Andrea Lasserre</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Candice%20Legris"> Candice Legris</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pierre%20Liot"> Pierre Liot</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Aline%20Metais"> Aline Metais</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Karine%20Petitprez"> Karine Petitprez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Christophe%20Varlet"> Christophe Varlet</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Christian%20Saout"> Christian Saout</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Background: The role of biological sex and gender identity -whether assigned or chosen- as health determinants are far from a recent discovery: several reports have stressed out how being a woman or a man could affect health on various scales. However, taking it into consideration beyond stereotypes and rigid binary assumptions still seems to be a work in progress. Method: The report is a synthesis on a variety of specific topics, each of which was studied by a specialist from the French National Authority for Health (HAS), through an analysis of existing literature on both healthcare policy construction process and instruments (norms, data analysis, clinical trials, guidelines, and professional practices). This work also implied a policy analysis of French recent public health laws and a retrospective study of guidelines with a gender mainstreaming approach. Results: The analysis showed that though sex and gender were well-known determinants of health, their consideration by both public policy and health operators was often incomplete, as it does not incorporate how sex and gender interact, as well as how they interact with other factors. As a result, the health and social care systems and their professionals tend to reproduce some stereotypical and inadequate habits. Though the data available often allows to take sex and gender into consideration, such data is often underused in practice guidelines and policy formulation. Another consequence is a lack of inclusiveness towards transgender or intersex persons. Conclusions: This report first urges for raising awareness of all the actors of health, in its broadest definition, that sex and gender matter beyond first-look conclusions. It makes a series of recommendations in order to reshape policy construction in the health sector on the one hand and to design public health instruments to make them more inclusive regarding sex and gender on the other hand. The HAS finally committed to integrate sex and gender preoccupations in its workings methods, to be a driving force in the spread of these concerns. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=biological%20sex" title="biological sex">biological sex</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=determinants%20of%20health" title=" determinants of health"> determinants of health</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gender" title=" gender"> gender</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=healthcare%20policy%20instruments" title=" healthcare policy instruments"> healthcare policy instruments</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=social%20accompaniment" title=" social accompaniment"> social accompaniment</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/131103/improving-collective-health-and-social-care-through-a-better-consideration-of-sex-and-gender-analytical-report-by-the-french-national-authority-for-health" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/131103.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">128</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">4</span> Nursing Professionals’ Perception of the Work Environment, Safety Climate and Job Satisfaction in the Brazilian Hospitals during the COVID-19 Pandemic</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ana%20Claudia%20de%20Souza%20Costa">Ana Claudia de Souza Costa</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Beatriz%20de%20C%C3%A1ssia%20Pinheiro%20Goulart"> Beatriz de Cássia Pinheiro Goulart</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Karine%20de%20C%C3%A1ssia%20Cavalari"> Karine de Cássia Cavalari</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Henrique%20Ceretta%20Oliveira"> Henrique Ceretta Oliveira</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Edineis%20de%20Brito%20Guirardello"> Edineis de Brito Guirardello</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Background: During the COVID-19 pandemic, nursing represents the largest category of health professionals who were on the front line. Thus, investigating the practice environment and the job satisfaction of nursing professionals during the pandemic becomes fundamental since it reflects on the quality of care and the safety climate. The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the nursing professionals' perception of the work environment, job satisfaction, and safety climate of the different hospitals and work shifts during the COVID-19 pandemic. Method: This is a cross-sectional survey with 130 nursing professionals from public, private and mixed hospitals in Brazil. For data collection, was used an electronic form containing the personal and occupational variables, work environment, job satisfaction, and safety climate. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and ANOVA or Kruskal-Wallis tests according to the data distribution. The distribution was evaluated by means of the Shapiro-Wilk test. The analysis was done in the SPSS 23 software, and it was considered a significance level of 5%. Results: The mean age of the participants was 35 years (±9.8), with a mean time of 6.4 years (±6.7) of working experience in the institution. Overall, the nursing professionals evaluated the work environment as favorable; they were dissatisfied with their job in terms of pay, promotion, benefits, contingent rewards, operating procedures and satisfied with coworkers, nature of work, supervision, and communication, and had a negative perception of the safety climate. When comparing the hospitals, it was found that they did not differ in their perception of the work environment and safety climate. However, they differed with regard to job satisfaction, demonstrating that nursing professionals from public hospitals were more dissatisfied with their work with regard to promotion when compared to professionals from private (p=0.02) and mixed hospitals (p< 0.01) and nursing professionals from mixed hospitals were more satisfied than those from private hospitals (p= 0.04) with regard to supervision. Participants working in night shifts had the worst perception of the work environment related to nurse participation in hospital affairs (p= 0.02), nursing foundations for quality care (p= 0.01), nurse manager ability, leadership and support (p= 0.02), safety climate (p< 0.01), job satisfaction related to contingent rewards (p= 0.04), nature of work (p= 0.03) and supervision (p< 0.01). Conclusion: The nursing professionals had a favorable perception of the environment and safety climate but differed among hospitals regarding job satisfaction for the promotion and supervision domains. There was also a difference between the participants regarding the work shifts, being the night shifts, those with the lowest scores, except for satisfaction with operational conditions. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=health%20facility%20environment" title="health facility environment">health facility environment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=job%20satisfaction" title=" job satisfaction"> job satisfaction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=patient%20safety" title=" patient safety"> patient safety</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nursing" title=" nursing"> nursing</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/145281/nursing-professionals-perception-of-the-work-environment-safety-climate-and-job-satisfaction-in-the-brazilian-hospitals-during-the-covid-19-pandemic" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/145281.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">157</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3</span> Integration of an Innovative Complementary Approach Inspired by Clinical Hypnosis into Oncology Care: Nurses’ Perception of Comfort Talk</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Danny%20Hjeij">Danny Hjeij</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Karine%20Bilodeau"> Karine Bilodeau</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Caroline%20Arbour"> Caroline Arbour</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Background: Chemotherapy infusions often lead to a cluster of co-occurring and difficult-to-treat symptoms (nausea, tingling, etc.), which may negatively impact the treatment experience at the outpatient clinic. Although several complementary approaches have shown beneficial effects for chemotherapy-induced symptom management, they are not easily implementable during chemotherapy infusion. In response to this limitation, comfort talk (CT), a simple, fast conversational method inspired by the language principles of clinical hypnosis, is known to optimize the management of symptoms related to antineoplastic treatments. However, the perception of nurses who have had to integrate this practice into their care has never been documented. Study design: A qualitative descriptive study with iterative content analysis was conducted among oncology nurses working in a chemotherapy outpatient clinic who had previous experience with CT. Semi-structured interviews were conducted by phone, using a pre-tested interview guide and a sociodemographic survey to document their perception of CT. The conceptual framework. Results: A total of six nurses (4 women, 2 men) took part in the interviews (N=6). The average age of participants was 49 years (36-61 years). Participants had an average of 24 years of experience (10-38 years) as a nurse, including 14.5 years in oncology (5-32 years). Data saturation (i.e., redundancy of words) was observed around the fifth interview. A sixth interview was conducted as confirmation. Six themes emerged: two addressing contextual and organizational obstacles at the chemotherapy outpatient clinic, and three addressing the added value of CT for oncology nursing care. Specific themes included: 1) the outpatient oncology clinic, a saturated care setting, 2) the keystones that support the integration of CT into care, 3) added value for patients, 4) a positive and rewarding experience for nurses, 5) collateral benefits, and 6) CT an approach to consider during the COVID-19 pandemic. Conclusion: For the first time, this study describes nurses' perception of the integration of CT into the care surrounding the administration of chemotherapy at the outpatient oncology clinic. In summary, contextual and organizational difficulties, as well as the lack of training, are among the main obstacles that could hinder the integration of CT in oncology. Still, the experience was reported mostly as positive. Indeed, nurses saw HC as an added value to patient care and meeting their need for holistic care. HC also appears to be beneficial for patients on several levels (for pain management in particular). Results will be used to inform future knowledge transfer activities related to CT in oncology nursing. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cancer" title="cancer">cancer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=chemotherapy" title=" chemotherapy"> chemotherapy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=comfort%20talk" title=" comfort talk"> comfort talk</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=oncology%20nursing%20role" title=" oncology nursing role"> oncology nursing role</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/143892/integration-of-an-innovative-complementary-approach-inspired-by-clinical-hypnosis-into-oncology-care-nurses-perception-of-comfort-talk" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/143892.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">81</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2</span> CertifHy: Developing a European Framework for the Generation of Guarantees of Origin for Green Hydrogen</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Frederic%20Barth">Frederic Barth</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wouter%20Vanhoudt"> Wouter Vanhoudt</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marc%20Londo"> Marc Londo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jaap%20C.%20Jansen"> Jaap C. However, the production and use of hydrogen only make sense if the production and transportation are carried out with minimal impact on natural resources, and if greenhouse gas emissions are reduced in comparison to conventional hydrogen or conventional fuels. The CertifHy project, supported by a wide range of key European industry leaders (gas companies, chemical industry, energy utilities, green hydrogen technology developers and automobile manufacturers, as well as other leading industrial players) therefore aims to: 1. Define a widely acceptable definition of green hydrogen. 2. Determine how a robust Guarantee of Origin (GoO) scheme for green hydrogen should be designed and implemented throughout the EU. It is divided into the following work packages (WPs). 1. Generic market outlook for green hydrogen: Evidence of existing industrial markets and the potential development of new energy related markets for green hydrogen in the EU, overview of the segments and their future trends, drivers and market outlook (WP1). 2. Definition of “green” hydrogen: step-by-step consultation approach leading to a consensus on the definition of green hydrogen within the EU (WP2). 3. Review of existing platforms and interactions between existing GoO and green hydrogen: Lessons learnt and mapping of interactions (WP3). 4. Definition of a framework of guarantees of origin for “green” hydrogen: Technical specifications, rules and obligations for the GoO, impact analysis (WP4). 5. Roadmap for the implementation of an EU-wide GoO scheme for green hydrogen: the project implementation plan will be presented to the FCH JU and the European Commission as the key outcome of the project and shared with stakeholders before finalisation (WP5 and 6). Definition of Green Hydrogen: CertifHy Green hydrogen is hydrogen from renewable sources that is also CertifHy Low-GHG-emissions hydrogen. Hydrogen from renewable sources is hydrogen belonging to the share of production equal to the share of renewable energy sources (as defined in the EU RES directive) in energy consumption for hydrogen production, excluding ancillary functions. CertifHy Low-GHG hydrogen is hydrogen with emissions lower than the defined CertifHy Low-GHG-emissions threshold, i.e. 36.4 gCO2eq/MJ, produced in a plant where the average emissions intensity of the non-CertifHy Low-GHG hydrogen production (based on an LCA approach), since sign-up or in the past 12 months, does not exceed the emissions intensity of the benchmark process (SMR of natural gas), i.e. 91.0 gCO2eq/MJ. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=green%20hydrogen" title="green hydrogen">green hydrogen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cross-cutting" title=" cross-cutting"> cross-cutting</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=guarantee%20of%20origin" title=" guarantee of origin"> guarantee of origin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=certificate" title=" certificate"> certificate</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=DG%20energy" title=" DG energy"> DG energy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bankability" title=" bankability"> bankability</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/48556/certifhy-developing-a-european-framework-for-the-generation-of-guarantees-of-origin-for-green-hydrogen" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/48556.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">493</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1</span> &#039;Go Baby Go&#039;; Community-Based Integrated Early Childhood and Maternal Child Health Model Improving Early Childhood Stimulation, Care Practices and Developmental Outcomes in Armenia: A Quasi-Experimental Study</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Viktorya%20Sargsyan">Viktorya Sargsyan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Arax%20Hovhannesyan"> Arax Hovhannesyan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Karine%20Abelyan"> Karine Abelyan</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Introduction: During the last decade, scientific studies have proven the importance of Early Childhood Development (ECD) interventions. These interventions are shown to create strong foundations for children’s intellectual, emotional and physical well-being, as well as the impact they have on learning and economic outcomes for children as they mature into adulthood. Many children in rural Armenia fail to reach their full development potential due to lack of early brain stimulation (playing, singing, reading, etc.) from their parents, and lack of community tools and services to follow-up children’s neurocognitive development. This is exacerbated by high rates of stunting and anemia among children under 3(CU3). This research study tested the effectiveness of an integrated ECD and Maternal, Newborn and Childhood Health (MNCH) model, called “Go Baby, Go!” (GBG), against the traditional (MNCH) strategy which focuses solely on preventive health and nutrition interventions. The hypothesis of this quasi-experimental study was: Children exposed to GBG will have better neurocognitive and nutrition outcomes compared to those receiving only the MNCH intervention. The secondary objective was to assess the effect of GBG on parental child care and nutrition practices. Methodology: The 14 month long study, targeted all 1,300 children aged 0 to 23 months, living in 43 study communities the in Gavar and Vardenis regions (Gegharkunik province, Armenia). Twenty-three intervention communities, 680 children, received GBG, and 20 control communities, 630 children, received MCHN interventions only. Baseline and evaluation data on child development, nutrition status and parental child care and nutrition practices were collected (caregiver interview, direct child assessment). In the intervention sites, in addition to MNCH (maternity schools, supportive supervision for Health Care Providers (HCP), the trained GBG facilitators conducted six interactive group sessions for mothers (key messages, information, group discussions, role playing, video-watching, toys/books preparation, according to GBG curriculum), and two sessions (condensed GBG) for adult family members (husbands, grandmothers). The trained HCPs received quality supervision for ECD counseling and screening. Findings: The GBG model proved to be effective in improving ECD outcomes. Children in the intervention sites had 83% higher odd of total ECD composite score (cognitive, language, motor) compared to children in the control sites (aOR 1.83; 95 percent CI: 1.08-3.09; p=0.025). Caregivers also demonstrated better child care and nutrition practices (minimum dietary diversity in intervention site is 55 percent higher compared to control (aOR=1.55, 95 percent CI 1.10-2.19, p =0.013); support for learning and disciplining practices (aOR=2.22, 95 percent CI 1.19-4.16, p=0.012)).
