<div itemprop="articleBody"> <h1>How CIS Works</h1> <p>The IEEE Computational Intelligence Society (CIS) is established and organized within the <a href="https://www.ieee.org/">IEEE</a>. The IEEE CIS governance documents are its <a href="/about/volunteer-resources/gov-documents/constitution">Constitution</a>, <a href="/about/volunteer-resources/gov-documents/bylaws">Bylaws</a> and <a href="/about/volunteer-resources/gov-documents/opsman">Operations Manual</a>.<img style="width: 395px; height: 250px; margin: 5px; float: right;" src="/images/files/slideshow/network_society.JPG" alt="network society" width="395" height="250" data-mce-width="395" data-mce-height="250" /></p> <p>The <a href="/committees/adcom">Administrative Committee</a> (ADCOM) governs and administers the Society. The <a href="/committees/excom-executive-committee">Executive Committee</a> (EXCOM) is a standing committee of ADCOM, and it coordinates the Society operations.</p> <p>The EXCOM is composed of the Society officers: <a href="/about">President</a>, the Immediate Past President or the President-elect, and 6 Vice-presidents: <a href="/conferences">VP Conferences</a>, <a href="/activities/educational-activites">VP Education</a>, <a href="#">VP Finances</a>, <a href="/activities/membership-activities">VP Members Activities</a>, <a href="/publications">VP Publications</a>, <a href="/activities/technical-activities">VP Technical Activities</a> and <a href="/activities/industrial-governmental-activities">VP Industrial and Governmental Activites</a>. The ADCOM is composed of 15 <a href="/committees/adcom">members-at-large</a>, who are elected by CIS members, and 8 Society officers, who are elected by ADCOM.  </p> <p>The IEEE CIS is organized in 13 standing committees and <a href="/activities/technical-activities">13 technical committees</a>.  Each technical committee usually has one or more task forces. Standing and technical committees may have one or more subcommittees. The reader will find more details about subcommittees and task forces under the webpages of the respective committees.</p> <p>The IEEE CIS has about 7,000 members from all over the world.
