Now, on whom have you trusted that you have rebelled against me? <A name="7"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/isaiah/36-6.htm#aramaic"><b>6</b></a></span>Behold, you have trusted on a staff of a fractured reed, on the Egyptian, upon which a man having leaned, it enters into his hand and pierces it. So is Pharaoh King of Egypt to all who trust upon him! <A name="8"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/isaiah/36-7.htm#aramaic"><b>7</b></a></span>And if you will say to me, ‘Upon LORD JEHOVAH our God we trust’, what has Hezekiah gained who removed sacrifices and the altars, and he said to Yehuda and to Jerusalem: ‘Before the one altar you shall worship?’ <A name="9"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/isaiah/36-8.htm#aramaic"><b>8</b></a></span>And now, make alliance with my Lord, the King of Assyria, and I shall give you two thousand horses, if you have horsemen there whom you will mount upon them! <A name="10"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/isaiah/36-9.htm#aramaic"><b>9</b></a></span>And how do you turn away the face of one of the little Servants of my Lord, and you yourself are confident of the Egyptian to give you chariots and horsemen? <A name="11"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/isaiah/36-10.htm#aramaic"><b>10</b></a></span>Now, have I gone up without LORD JEHOVAH to this land for its destruction? LORD JEHOVAH said to me: ‘Go up against this land and destroy it!’"<p> <A name="12"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/isaiah/36-11.htm#aramaic"><b>11</b></a></span>And Eliakim and Shebna and Yuakh said to Rabshaqeh: “Speak Aramaic with your Servants, because we hear, and do not speak Judean with us before the people who stand on the wall!” <A name="13"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/isaiah/36-12.htm#aramaic"><b>12</b></a></span>And Rabshaqeh said to them: “It was not to you and to your Lord my Lord has sent me saying these words, but to the men sitting on the wall, lest they would eat their dung and drink their urine with you!”<p> <A name="14"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/isaiah/36-13.htm#aramaic"><b>13</b></a></span>And Rabshaqeh stood and he called in a loud voice in Judean and said: "Hear the words of the great King, the King of Assyria! <A name="15"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/isaiah/36-14.htm#aramaic"><b>14</b></a></span>Thus says the King, let not Hezekiah deceive you, because he cannot save you! <A name="16"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/isaiah/36-15.htm#aramaic"><b>15</b></a></span>And do not let Hezekiah cause you to trust on LORD JEHOVAH and say: ‘LORD JEHOVAH certainly delivers us and this city is not handed over into the hands of the King of Assyria’ <A name="17"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/isaiah/36-16.htm#aramaic"><b>16</b></a></span>Do not listen to Hezekiah, because, thus says the King of Assyria: ‘Do a favor with me and go out with me and let each man eat his own grapes and a man his own figs, and each man drink the waters of his own well <A name="18"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/isaiah/36-17.htm#aramaic"><b>17</b></a></span>Until I will come and I will bring you to a land like your land, a land of grain and of oil, a land of olives and of vineyards <A name="19"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/isaiah/36-18.htm#aramaic"><b>18</b></a></span>And Hezekiah should not deceive you and say, ‘LORD JEHOVAH delivers us.’ Have the gods of the Gentiles delivered a man of his land from the hands of the King of Assyria? <A name="20"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/isaiah/36-19.htm#aramaic"><b>19</b></a></span>Where are the gods of Khamath and of Raphad, and where are the gods of Sapharvim?
