for Our Troops is a nonprofit organization building specially adapted and mortgage free homes for injured veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan. The DFW event raised over $500,000 last year in order to help veterans reclaim the freedom and independence they sacrificed defending our country.<span id="more-5953"></span></p> <p>Brad has a special connection with Homes for Our Troops because his brother’s service and subsequent disability. Most of these Veterans have sustained injuries including multiple limb amputations, partial or full paralysis, and/or severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). These homes restore some of the freedom and independence our Veterans sacrificed while defending our country, and enable them to focus on their family, recovery, and rebuilding their lives. Since its inception in 2004, over 90 percent of donations to Homes for Our Troops has gone to directly support Veterans. HFOT builds these homes where the Veteran chooses to live, and continues its relationship with the Veterans after home delivery to assist them with rebuilding their lives.</p> <h3>Get Involved and Donate to Homes for Our Troops</h3> <p>The average cost to construct each specially adapted home nationwide runs $422,000. Homes for Our Troops is a privately funded organization, and receives no assistance from the Department of Veterans Affairs or any other government organization. Nearly 70 percent of their operational budget is generated by individual donors and community fundraisers nationwide who step up to help our American heroes by coordinating everything from lemonade stands to golf tournaments.
