BioPortal and OntoPortal Web sites and services [“Our Sites”] that are operated by the Stanford Center for Biomedical Informatics Research [BMIR, “us”, or “we”], as well as to any BMIR software applications that you download or instantiate for use on your own systems [“Our Applications”]. We may update this policy at any time; if we do so we will revise the date and place notices on Our Sites if changes are material. We will obtain your consent for changes if that is required by law.</p> <p>BMIR is not responsible for the content or policies of sites to which Our Sites may link.</p> <p>By using Our Sites, you agree to follow and be bound by the following terms and conditions concerning your use of Our Sites (“Terms of Use”) and our <a href="https://www.bioontology.org/privacy/">Privacy Policy</a>. We may modify or terminate our services from time to time, for any reason, and without notice. </p> <p>The ontologies, terminologies, metadata, templates, and other resources provided by Our Sites may be downloaded in whole or in part and used, provided that the end user follows the applicable licensing terms, including appropriately crediting the original provider of the resources and obtaining the appropriate licenses required by the developers of the accessed materials.</p> <h5 class="wp-block-heading">Use of Software</h5> <p>Any software (either source code, or bundled applications referred to as “Our Applications”) that is made available to download from Our Sites (“Our Software”) is the copyrighted work of Stanford Center for Biomedical Informatics Research. Use of Our Software is governed by the terms of the Software Distribution Agreement which accompanies or is included with Our Software (“License Agreement”), or as expressly stated on the website pages accompanying the software. Our Software is made available for download solely for use according to the License Agreement. Absent a License Agreement that accompanies Our Software, the Terms of Use will apply.</p> <h5 class="wp-block-heading">Use of Our Forums and Public Communication</h5> <p>“Our Forums” means any digital discussion group, chat area, bulletin board, news group, correspondence with BMIR, its staff or associates, or e-mail function offered as part of, or in support of, Our Sites. You agree not to solicit other users of Our Forums to use or join or become members of any commercial online or offline service or other organization. Except where expressly authorized by us, you agree not to collect or store personal data about other users. </p> <p>By uploading, emailing, posting, publishing or otherwise transmitting content to any Our Forums or submitting any content to Our Sites, you automatically grant (or warrant that the owner of such rights has expressly granted) the Stanford Center for Biomedical Informatics Research a perpetual, royalty-free, irrevocable, nonexclusive right and license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, transmit and distribute such content in any form, medium, or technology now known or later developed. These cookies are exclusively first-party and serve the following purposes:</p> <ul class="wp-block-list"> <li><strong>Technical:</strong> Maintaining login sessions and remembering user preferences to enhance the user experience.</li> <li><strong>Analytics:</strong> Supporting website analytics to improve performance and usability.</li> </ul> <p>By using BioPortal, you consent to our use of cookies as described above.</p> <h5 class="wp-block-heading">Use of Ontologies</h5> <p>In general, any ontology submitted to Our Sites will be freely available for public use, unless the content is marked as private (in which case it is not shared via Our Sites) or the Licensing Attribute is defined in the metadata for that ontology. Private ontologies will be viewable only by BioPortal administrative staff. If an end user re-uses ontologies with a Licensing attribute defined, Our Sites consider it the end user’s responsibility to possess appropriate licenses for that re-use. Only the submitter of the ontology (either an individual or organization who is the authorized owner of the ontology content or a designated representative) will be able to modify it or submit new versions, except that ontologies which are configured for automatic ingest/update by Our Sites may be changed at their source location on the web by anyone having that authority. </p> <p>All submitted ontology content will be indexed and made available for search and visualization to all users of Our Sites worldwide.  Our Sites may provide an International Resource Identifier for each concept within an ontology so that the concept can be referenced in semantic Web applications. </p> <h5 class="wp-block-heading">Medical/Clinical Use Disclaimer</h5> <p>Materials on Our Sites have not necessarily been reviewed or approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
