Cmdr, WWII)<p>Adolph "Spike" Dubs was a career diplomat and a fluent Russian speaker. He was kidnapped in 1979 Kabul by Muslim insurgents, who demanded the release of three prisoners. Dubs was killed in a firefight with Afghan security forces after he was kidnapped. Reports at the time were that the room was stormed and Dubs was unfortunately killed, but the facts are otherwise.
