menus. Here, a student in the Class of 1885 kept this menu from a Thanksgiving dinner he attended in the 1880s. The orange and black ribbons suggest this was an event primarily attended by Princeton students.</p><p>There are some familiar foods here–the “poultry of all kinds” almost surely includes turkey, and we imagine many of you would consider Thanksgiving incomplete without macaroni (presumably with cheese), sweet potatoes, and cranberry sauce. Although there were many more serious allegations, much of the concern centered on repeated thefts of multiple pans of lasagna. Emido Federico, the Wilcox cook making lasagnas, was said to be particularly skilled at his craft. The center of the scandal, General Manager for Facilities Thomas P. Pennsylvania football program, November 2, 1946. </p><p>In what the <i>New York Times</i> called the “Upset of the Decade,” the underdog Princeton football team <a href="https://papersofprinceton.princeton.edu/princetonperiodicals/?a=d&d=Princetonian19461104-01.2.7&e=-------en-20--1--txt-txIN-------">defeated the University of Pennsylvania 17 to 14</a> in this game with a series of scrappy plays and clever misdirection. A 35-minute riot ensued, and the Philadelphia police called for reinforcements from the mounted calvary. In the confusion, Princeton’s coaches missed the team bus and had to take the train back home.
