If DOT doesn’t pass a new rule by June 2025, then the old rule allowing LNG by rail is reinstated. As DOT writes and refines a new rule, I urge you to implement a complete and total ban on the transportation of LNG by rail. LNG is a dangerous, highly unstable, and explosive substance that can lead to uncontrollable fires so hot they burn people up to a mile away. There’s a reason it was banned before the Trump administration rolled it back: It’s just too dangerous and the risks are too high. We need to look no further than the derailment in East Palestine, Ohio as an example. If that train had been carrying LNG, the tragedy would have been even more severe. Please ban LNG by rail without any exceptions to protect our communities, not the profits of the gas industry.
