Untie<MG3089> them and bring<MG71> them to Me. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>And if<MG1437> anyone<MG5100> says<MG3004> anything<MG5100> to you, you shall say<MG3004>, ‘The Lord<MG2962> needs<MG2192, 5532> them,’ and he will send<MG649> them on<MG649> immediately<MG2117>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>Now this<MG3778> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[a]</a></span>took<MG1096> place<MG1096> so<MG2443> that<MG2443> what<MG3588> was spoken<MG3004> through<MG1223> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>the prophet<MG4396> would be fulfilled<MG4137>: <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>“SAY<MG3004> TO THE DAUGHTER<MG2364> OF ZION<MG4622>, <t><p class="indent1">‘BEHOLD<MG2400> YOUR KING<MG935> IS COMING<MG2064> TO YOU, <t><p class="indent1">HUMBLE<MG4239b>, AND MOUNTED<MG1910> ON A DONKEY<MG3688>, <t><p class="indent1">EVEN<MG2532> ON A COLT<MG4454>, THE FOAL<MG5207> OF A DONKEY<MG5268>.’” <A><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>The disciples<MG3101> went<MG4198> and did<MG4160> just<MG2531a> as<MG2531a> Jesus<MG2424> had instructed<MG4929> them, <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>and brought<MG71> the donkey<MG3688> and the colt<MG4454>, and laid<MG2007> their cloaks<MG2440> on them; and He sat<MG1940> on <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>the cloaks<MG2440>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>Most<MG4183> of the crowd<MG3793> spread<MG4766> their cloaks<MG2440> on the road<MG3598>, and others<MG243> were cutting<MG2875> branches<MG2798> from the trees<MG1186> and spreading<MG4766> them on the road<MG3598>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>Now<MG1161> the crowds<MG3793> going<MG4254> ahead<MG4254> of Him, and those<MG3588> who followed<MG190>, were shouting<MG2896>, <p class="indent1stline">“<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>Hosanna<MG5614> to the Son<MG5207> of David<MG1160b>; <t><p class="indent1">BLESSED<MG2127> IS THE ONE WHO COMES<MG2064> IN THE NAME<MG3686> OF THE LORD<MG2962>; <t><p class="indent1"><span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>Hosanna<MG5614> in the highest<MG5310>!” <A><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>When He had entered<MG1525> Jerusalem<MG2414>, all<MG3956> the city<MG4172> was stirred<MG4579>, saying<MG3004>, “Who<MG5101> is this<MG3778>?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>And the crowds<MG3793> were saying<MG3004>, “This<MG3778> is Jesus<MG2424> the prophet<MG4396>, from Nazareth<MG3478> in Galilee<MG1056>.” <p class="hdg">Cleansing the Temple</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>And Jesus<MG2424> entered<MG1525> the temple<MG2413> <i>area</i> and drove<MG1544b> out<MG1544b> all<MG3956> those<MG3588> who were selling<MG4453> and buying<MG59> on the temple<MG2413> <i>grounds,</i> and He overturned<MG2690> the tables<MG5132> of the money<MG2855> changers<MG2855> and the seats<MG2515> of those<MG3588> who were selling<MG4453> doves<MG4058>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>And He *said<MG3004> to them, “It is written<MG1125>: ‘MY HOUSE<MG3624> WILL BE CALLED<MG2564> A HOUSE<MG3624> OF PRAYER<MG4335>’; but you are making<MG4160> it a DEN<MG4693> OF ROBBERS<MG3027>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>And <i>those who were</i> blind<MG5185> and <i>those who</i> limped<MG5560> came<MG4334> to Him in the temple<MG2413> <i>area,</i> and He healed<MG2323> them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>But when the chief<MG749> priests<MG749> and the scribes<MG1122> saw<MG3708> the wonderful<MG2297> things<MG2297> that He had done<MG4160>, and the children<MG3816> who were shouting<MG2896> in the temple<MG2413> <i>area,</i> “<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>Hosanna<MG5614> to the Son<MG5207> of David<MG1160b>,” they became indignant<MG23>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>and they said<MG3004> to Him, “Do You hear<MG191> what<MG5101> these<MG3778> <i>children</i> are saying<MG3004>?” And Jesus<MG2424> *said<MG3004> to them, “Yes<MG3483a>. Have you never<MG3763> read<MG314>, ‘FROM THE MOUTHS<MG4750> OF INFANTS<MG3516> AND NURSING<MG2337> BABIES<MG2337> YOU HAVE PREPARED<MG2675> PRAISE<MG136> FOR YOURSELF’?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>And He left<MG2641> them and went<MG1831> out<MG1831> of the city<MG4172> to Bethany<MG963>, and spent<MG835> the<MG835> night<MG835> there<MG1563>. <p class="hdg">The Barren Fig Tree</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>Now<MG1161> in the early<MG4404> morning<MG4404>, when He was returning<MG1877> to the city<MG4172>, He became hungry<MG3983>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>And seeing<MG3708> a lone<MG1520> fig<MG4808> tree<MG4808> by the road<MG3598>, He came<MG2064> to it and found<MG2147> nothing<MG3762> on it except<MG1508> leaves<MG5444> alone<MG3440>; and He *said<MG3004> to it, “No<MG3756> longer<MG3371> shall there ever<MG1519, 165> be <i>any</i> fruit<MG2590> from you.” And at once<MG3916> the fig<MG4808> tree<MG4808> withered<MG3583>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>Seeing<MG3708> <i>this,</i> the disciples<MG3101> were<MG2296> amazed<MG2296> and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>asked<MG3004>, “How<MG4459> did the fig<MG4808> tree<MG4808> wither<MG3583> <i>all</i> at once<MG3916>?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>And Jesus<MG2424> answered<MG611> and said<MG3004> to them, “Truly<MG281> I say<MG3004> to you, if<MG1437> you have<MG2192> faith<MG4102> and do not doubt<MG1252>, you will not only<MG3440> do<MG4160> what<MG3588> <i>was done</i> to the fig<MG4808> tree<MG4808>, but even<MG2579> if<MG2579> you say<MG3004> to this<MG3778> mountain<MG3735>, ‘Be taken<MG142> up<MG142> and cast<MG906> into the sea<MG2281>,’ it will happen<MG1096>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>And whatever<MG3745, 302> you ask<MG154> in prayer<MG4335>, believing<MG4100>, you will receive<MG2983> it all<MG3956>.” <p class="hdg">Authority Challenged</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>When He entered<MG2064> the temple<MG2413> <i>area,</i> the chief<MG749> priests<MG749> and the elders<MG4245> of the people<MG2992> came<MG4334> to Him while He was teaching<MG1321>, and said<MG3004>, “By what<MG4169> authority<MG1849> are You doing<MG4160> these<MG3778> things<MG3778>, and who<MG5101> gave<MG1325> You this<MG3778> authority<MG1849>?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>But Jesus<MG2424> responded<MG611> and said<MG3004> to them, “I will also<MG2532> ask<MG2065> you one<MG1520> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>question<MG3056>, which<MG3739>, if<MG1437> you tell<MG3004> Me, I will also<MG2532> tell<MG3004> you by what<MG4169> authority<MG1849> I do<MG4160> these<MG3778> things<MG3778>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>The baptism<MG908> of John<MG2491> was from what<MG4159> <i>source:</i> from heaven<MG3772> or<MG2228> from men<MG444>?” And they <i>began</i> considering<MG1260> <i>the implications</i> among<MG1722> themselves<MG1438>, saying<MG3004>, “If<MG1437> we say<MG3004>, ‘From heaven<MG3772>,’ He will say<MG3004> to us, ‘Then<MG3767> why<MG1223, 5101> did you not believe<MG4100> him?’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>But if<MG1437> we say<MG3004>, ‘From men<MG444>,’ we fear<MG5399> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>people<MG3793>; for they all<MG3956> regard<MG2192> John<MG2491> as a prophet<MG4396>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>And answering<MG611> Jesus<MG2424>, they said<MG3004>, “We do not know<MG3609a>.” He also<MG2532> said<MG5346> to them, “Neither<MG3761> am I telling<MG3004> you by what<MG4169> authority<MG1849> I do<MG4160> these<MG3778> things<MG3778>. <p class="hdg">Parable of Two Sons</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>“But what<MG5101> do you think<MG1380>? A man<MG444> had<MG2192> two<MG1417> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>sons<MG5043>, and he came<MG4334> to the first<MG4413> and said<MG3004>, ‘<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>Son<MG5043>, go<MG5217> work<MG2038b> today<MG4594> in the vineyard<MG290>.’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>But he replied<MG611, 3004>, ‘I do not want<MG2309> to.’ Yet<MG1161> afterward<MG5305> he regretted<MG3338> it and went<MG565>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>And <i>the man</i> came<MG4334> to his second<MG1208> <i>son</i> and said<MG3004> the same<MG5615> thing<MG5615>; and he replied<MG611, 3004>, ‘I <i>will,</i> sir<MG2962>’; and <i>yet</i> he did not go<MG565>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>Which<MG5101> of the two<MG1417> did<MG4160> the will<MG2307> of his father<MG3962>?” They *said<MG3004>, “The first<MG4413>.” Jesus<MG2424> *said<MG3004> to them, “Truly<MG281> I say<MG3004> to you that the tax<MG5057> collectors<MG5057> and prostitutes<MG4204> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>will get<MG4254> into the kingdom<MG932> of God<MG2316> before<MG4254> you. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>For John<MG2491> came<MG2064> to you in the way<MG3598> of righteousness<MG1343> and you did not believe<MG4100> him; but the tax<MG5057> collectors<MG5057> and prostitutes<MG4204> did believe<MG4100> him; and you, seeing<MG3708> <i>this,</i> did not even<MG3761> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>have<MG3338> second<MG3338> thoughts<MG3338> afterward<MG5305> so as to believe<MG4100> him. <p class="hdg">Parable of the Landowner</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>“Listen<MG191> to another<MG243> parable<MG3850b>. There was a <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>landowner<MG3617> who<MG3748> PLANTED<MG5452> A VINEYARD<MG290> AND PUT<MG4060> A <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>FENCE<MG5418> AROUND<MG4060> IT, AND DUG<MG3736> A WINE<MG3025b> PRESS<MG3025b> IN IT, AND BUILT<MG3618> A TOWER<MG4444>, and he leased<MG1554> it to <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>vine-growers<MG1092> and went<MG589> on<MG589> a<MG589> journey<MG589>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>And when<MG3753> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>harvest<MG2590> time<MG2540> approached<MG1448>, he sent<MG649> his slaves<MG1401> to the vine-growers<MG1092> to receive<MG2983> his fruit<MG2590>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-35.htm"><b>35</b></a></span>And the vine-growers<MG1092> took<MG2983> his slaves<MG1401> and beat<MG1194> one<MG3739>, killed<MG615> another<MG3739, 1161>, and stoned<MG3036> another<MG3739>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-36.htm"><b>36</b></a></span>Again<MG3825>, he sent<MG649> other<MG243> slaves<MG1401>, more<MG4183> than the first<MG4413>; and they did<MG4160> the same<MG5615> things<MG5615> to them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-37.htm"><b>37</b></a></span>But afterward<MG5305> he sent<MG649> his son<MG5207> to them, saying<MG3004>, ‘They will respect<MG1788> my son<MG5207>.’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-38.htm"><b>38</b></a></span>But when the vine-growers<MG1092> saw<MG3708> the son<MG5207>, they said<MG3004> among<MG1722> themselves<MG1438>, ‘This<MG3778> is the heir<MG2818>; come<MG1205>, let’s kill<MG615> him and take<MG2192> possession<MG2192> of his inheritance<MG2817>!’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-39.htm"><b>39</b></a></span>And they took<MG2983> him and threw<MG1544b> him out<MG1544b> of the vineyard<MG290>, and killed<MG615> him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-40.htm"><b>40</b></a></span>Therefore<MG3767>, when<MG3752> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[r]</a></span>owner<MG2962> of the vineyard<MG290> comes<MG2064>, what<MG5101> will he do<MG4160> to those<MG1565> vine-growers<MG1092>?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-41.htm"><b>41</b></a></span>They *said<MG3004> to Him, “He will bring<MG622> those<MG846> wretches<MG2556> to a wretched<MG2560> end<MG622> and lease<MG1554> the vineyard<MG290> to other<MG243> vine-growers<MG1092>, who<MG3748> will pay<MG591> him the fruit<MG2590> in the <i>proper</i> seasons<MG2540>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-42.htm"><b>42</b></a></span>Jesus<MG2424> *said<MG3004> to them, “Did you never<MG3763> read<MG314> in the Scriptures<MG1124>, <t><p class="indent1">‘A STONE<MG3037> WHICH<MG3739> THE BUILDERS<MG3618> REJECTED<MG593>, <t><p class="indent1">THIS<MG3778> HAS BECOME<MG1096> THE <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[s]</a></span>CHIEF<MG2776> CORNERSTONE<MG1137>; <t><p class="indent1">THIS<MG3778> CAME<MG1096> ABOUT FROM THE LORD<MG2962>, <t><p class="indent1">AND IT IS MARVELOUS<MG2298> IN OUR EYES<MG3788>’?
