Currently used live attenuated vaccines against ORFV infection have been reported to cause severe outbreaks in vaccinated animals. In this study, we investigated the immunogenicity of the B2L and F1L proteins of the virus, which are thought to elicit a protective immune response The 6-week-old 50 female mice were divided into 8 groups: seven experimental groups and one control group. Each animal in the experimental group received an initial immunisation with the nanoparticles or proteins coated with the nanoparticles, followed by two booster immunizations with the same products 14 days apart. Ten days after the last booster inoculation, the mice were either humanely killed or lethally challenged with UPM /HSN-2-ORFV at a dose of 106 TCID50/mL in a volume of 50 μl. The spleen was examined for histopathological changes and quantification of T cells by flow cytometry. On the other hand, the degree of protection of mice from the lethal virus was evaluated by lesion size, weight loss, and histopathological examination of skin and liver. The results showed that mice immunised with rB2L alone, rB2L-Al₂O₃-NPs, rB2L/rF1L, and rB2L/rF1L-Al₂O₃-NPs elicited statistically higher levels of anti-rB2L and/or rF1L-specific IgA/IgG and CD4/CD8 cell immune responses than mice in the control groups (p < 0.01). The vaccine candidate did not exhibit severe skin damage after monitoring histopathology, morbidity, and mortality. Overall, the results suggest that recombinant rB2L and rF1L antigens may be useful universal vaccine candidates against ORFV infections. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=orf%20virus" title="orf virus">orf virus</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=antigen%20nanoparticles" title=" antigen nanoparticles"> antigen nanoparticles</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=virus" title=" virus"> virus</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nanoparticles" title=" nanoparticles"> nanoparticles</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/184424/induction-of-cellular-and-humoral-immune-responses-in-balbc-mice-immunized-with-rb2l-and-rf1l-proteins-of-orf-virus-adjuvanted-with-alumina-nanoparticles" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/184424.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">70</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">515</span> Gene Expression Profiling of Iron-Related Genes of Pasteurella multocida Serotype A Strain PMTB2.1</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shagufta%20Jabeen">Shagufta Jabeen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Faez%20Jesse%20Firdaus%20Abdullah"> Faez Jesse Firdaus Abdullah</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zunita%20Zakaria"> Zunita Zakaria</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nurulfiza%20Mat%20Isa"> Nurulfiza Mat Isa</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yung%20Chie%20Tan"> Yung Chie Tan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wai%20Yan%20Yee"> Wai Yan Yee</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdul%20Rahman%20Omar"> Abdul Rahman Omar</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Pasteurella multocida is associated with acute, as well as, chronic infections in avian and bovine such as pasteurellosis and hemorrhagic septicemia (HS) in cattle and buffaloes. Iron is one of the most important nutrients for pathogenic bacteria including Pasteurella and acts as a cofactor or prosthetic group in several essential enzymes and is needed for amino acid, pyrimidine, and DNA biosynthesis. In our recent study, we showed that 2% of Pasteurella multocida serotype A strain PMTB2.1 encode for iron regulating genes (Accession number CP007205.1). Genome sequencing of other Pasteurella multocida serotypes namely PM70 and HB01 also indicated up to 2.5% of the respective genome encode for iron regulating genes, suggesting that Pasteurella multocida genome comprises of multiple systems for iron uptake. Since P. multocida PMTB2.1 has more than 40 CDs out of 2097 CDs (approximately 2%), encode for iron-regulated. The gene expression profiling of four iron-regulating genes namely fbpb, yfea, fece and fur were characterized under iron-restricted environment. The P. multocida strain PMTB2.1 was grown in broth with and without iron chelating agent and samples were collected at different time points. Relative mRNA expression profile of these genes was determined using Taqman probe based real-time PCR assay. The data analysis, normalization with two house-keeping genes and the quantification of fold changes were carried out using Bio-Rad CFX manager software version 3.1. Results of this study reflect that iron reduced environment has significant effect on expression profile of iron regulating genes (p < 0.05) when compared to control (normal broth) and all evaluated genes act differently with response to iron reduction in media. The highest relative fold change of fece gene was observed at early stage of treatment indicating that PMTB2.1 may utilize its periplasmic protein at early stage to acquire iron. Furthermore, down-regulation expression of fece with the elevated expression of other genes at later time points suggests that PMTB2.1 control their iron requirements in response to iron availability by down-regulating the expression of iron proteins. Moreover, significantly high relative fold change (p ≤ 0.05) of fbpb gene is probably associated with the ability of P. multocida to directly use host iron complex such as hem, hemoglobin. In addition, the significant increase (p ≤ 0.05) in fbpb and yfea expressions also reflects the utilization of multiple iron systems in P. multocida strain PMTB2.1. The findings of this study are very much important as relative scarcity of free iron within hosts creates a major barrier to microbial growth inside host and utilization of outer-membrane proteins system in iron acquisition probably occurred at early stage of infection with P. multocida. In conclusion, the presence and utilization of multiple iron system in P. multocida strain PMTB2.1 revealed the importance of iron in the survival of P. multocida. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=iron-related%20genes" title="iron-related genes">iron-related genes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=real-time%20PCR" title=" real-time PCR"> real-time PCR</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gene%20expression%20profiling" title=" gene expression profiling"> gene expression profiling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fold%20changes" title=" fold changes"> fold changes</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/82733/gene-expression-profiling-of-iron-related-genes-of-pasteurella-multocida-serotype-a-strain-pmtb21" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/82733.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">460</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">514</span> Complete Genome Sequence Analysis of Pasteurella multocida Subspecies multocida Serotype A Strain PMTB2.1</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shagufta%20Jabeen">Shagufta Jabeen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Faez%20J.%20Firdaus%20Abdullah"> Faez J. P. multocida serotype A has been reported to cause fatal pneumonia and septicemia. Pasteurella multocida subspecies multocida of serotype A Malaysian isolate PMTB2.1 was first isolated from buffaloes died of septicemia. In this study, the genome of P. multocida strain PMTB2.1 was sequenced using third-generation sequencing technology, PacBio RS2 system and analyzed bioinformatically via de novo analysis followed by in-depth analysis based on comparative genomics. Bioinformatics analysis based on de novo assembly of PacBio raw reads generated 3 contigs followed by gap filling of aligned contigs with PCR sequencing, generated a single contiguous circular chromosome with a genomic size of 2,315,138 bp and a GC content of approximately 40.32% (Accession number CP007205). The PMTB2.1 genome comprised of 2,176 protein-coding sequences, 6 rRNA operons and 56 tRNA and 4 ncRNAs sequences. The comparative genome sequence analysis of PMTB2.1 with nine complete genomes which include Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, Haemophilus parasuis, Escherichia coli and five P. multocida complete genome sequences including, PM70, PM36950, PMHN06, PM3480, PMHB01 and PMTB2.1 was carried out based on OrthoMCL analysis and Venn diagram. The analysis showed that 282 CDs (13%) are unique to PMTB2.1and 1,125 CDs with orthologs in all. This reflects overall close relationship of these bacteria and supports the classification in the Gamma subdivision of the Proteobacteria. In addition, genomic distance analysis among all nine genomes indicated that PMTB2.1 is closely related with other five Pasteurella species with genomic distance less than 0.13. Synteny analysis shows subtle differences in genetic structures among different P.multocida indicating the dynamics of frequent gene transfer events among different P. multocida strains. However, PM3480 and PM70 exhibited exceptionally large structural variation since they were swine and chicken isolates. Furthermore, genomic structure of PMTB2.1 is more resembling that of PM36950 with a genomic size difference of approximately 34,380 kb (smaller than PM36950) and strain-specific Integrative and Conjugative Elements (ICE) which was found only in PM36950 is absent in PMTB2.1. Meanwhile, two intact prophages sequences of approximately 62 kb were found to be present only in PMTB2.1. One of phage is similar to transposable phage SfMu. The phylogenomic tree was constructed and rooted with E. coli, A. pleuropneumoniae and H. parasuis based on OrthoMCL analysis. The genomes of P. multocida strain PMTB2.1 were clustered with bovine isolates of P. multocida strain PM36950 and PMHB01 and were separated from avian isolate PM70 and swine isolates PM3480 and PMHN06 and are distant from Actinobacillus and Haemophilus. Previous studies based on Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNPs) and Multilocus Sequence Typing (MLST) unable to show a clear phylogenetic relatedness between Pasteurella multocida and the different host. In conclusion, this study has provided insight on the genomic structure of PMTB2.1 in terms of potential genes that can function as virulence factors for future study in elucidating the mechanisms behind the ability of the bacteria in causing diseases in susceptible animals. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=comparative%20genomics" title="comparative genomics">comparative genomics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=DNA%20sequencing" title=" DNA sequencing"> DNA sequencing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=phage" title=" phage"> phage</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=phylogenomics" title=" phylogenomics"> phylogenomics</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/81349/complete-genome-sequence-analysis-of-pasteurella-multocida-subspecies-multocida-serotype-a-strain-pmtb21" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/81349.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">188</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">513</span> Structural and Leaching Properties of Irradiated Lead Commercial Glass by Using XRD, Ultrasonic, UV-VIS and AAS Technique</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=N.%20H.%20Alias">N. The morphologic study shows a homogeneously dispersed and strong particle bonding between the graphite and the bioepoxy, with conductivity of the film 103 S/m, confirming the efficiency of the processes. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=absorbance%20peak" title="absorbance peak">absorbance peak</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=biopolymer" title=" biopolymer"> biopolymer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=graphite-%20bioepoxy%20composites" title=" graphite- bioepoxy composites"> graphite- bioepoxy composites</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=particle%20bonding" title=" particle bonding"> particle bonding</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/16623/structural-optical-and-electrical-thin-film-characterization-using-graphite-bioepoxy-composite-materials" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/16623.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">516</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">510</span> Knowledge Audit Model for Requirement Elicitation Process</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Laleh%20Taheri">Laleh Taheri</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Noraini%20C.%20Pa"> Noraini C. Software development organizations are highly knowledge-intensive organizations especially in their Requirement Elicitation Process (REP). There are several problems regarding communicating and using the knowledge in REP such as misunderstanding, being out of scope, conflicting information and changes of requirements. All of these problems occurred in transmitting the requirements knowledge during REP. Several researches have been done in REP in order to solve the problem towards requirements. Knowledge Audit (KA) approaches were proposed in order to solve managing knowledge in human resources, financial, and manufacturing. There is lack of study applying the KA in requirements elicitation process. Therefore, this paper proposes a KA model for REP in supporting to acquire good requirements. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=knowledge%20audit" title="knowledge audit">knowledge audit</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=requirement%20elicitation%20process" title=" requirement elicitation process"> requirement elicitation process</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=KA%20model" title=" KA model"> KA model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=knowledge%20in%20requirement%20elicitation" title=" knowledge in requirement elicitation"> knowledge in requirement elicitation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/4339/knowledge-audit-model-for-requirement-elicitation-process" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/4339.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">345</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">509</span> Food Package Design To Preserve The Food Temperature</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sugiono">Sugiono</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wuwus%20Ardiatna">Wuwus Ardiatna</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Himma%20Firdaus">Himma Firdaus</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nanang%20Kusnandar">Nanang Kusnandar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bayu%20Utomo">Bayu Utomo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jimmy%20Abdel%20Kadar">Jimmy Abdel Kadar</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This study was aimed to explore the best design of single-used hot food packaging through various package designs. A large population of staff and students in Malaysian universities has led to excessive energy consumption which directly gives an impact to the environment. The key question then ascended "How well is an energy management (EM) been practiced in universities without taking the Critical Success Factors (CSFs) into consideration to ensure the management of university achieves the goals in reducing energy consumption". Review of past literature is carried out to establish CSFs for EM best practices. Thus, this paper highlighted the CSFs which have to be focused on by management of university to successfully measure the EM implementation and its performance. At the end of this paper, a theoretical framework is developed for EM success factors towards a sustainable university. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=critical%20success%20factors" title="critical success factors">critical success factors</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=energy%20management" title=" energy management"> energy management</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sustainability" title=" sustainability"> sustainability</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Malaysian%20universities" title=" Malaysian universities"> Malaysian universities</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/15871/critical-success-factors-for-successful-energy-management-implementation-towards-sustainability-in-malaysian-universities" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/15871.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">476</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">507</span> Potentials of Underutilised Crops in the Nigerian Farming Systems for Sustainable Food Production and Economic Empowerment</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jesse%20Silas%20Mshelia">Jesse Silas Mshelia</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Michael%20Mamman%20Degri"> Michael Mamman Degri</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Akeweta%20Emmanuel%20Samaila"> Akeweta Emmanuel Samaila</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This review was conducted in the North-Eastern part of Nigeria where there are a lot of challenges of poverty and low level of productivity of farmlands as a result of dwindling soil fertility and dependence on crops that are not so much adopted to the soil and climatic condition and the prevailing farming systems of the area which is predominantly mixed cropping. Multiple factors including use of the latest available technology and the skills that are trained by these online methods have been assessed. An attempt has been made to answer how each of the various language skills is trained online and how effective the online methods are compared to the classroom methods when students interact with peers and instructor. A mixed method research design was followed for collecting information for the study where a survey by means of a questionnaire and in-depth interviews with a number of respondents were undertaken across the various institutes and study centers located in the United Arab Emirates. The questionnaire contained 19 questions which included 7 sub-questions. The study revealed that the students find learning with an instructor to be a lot more effective than learning alone in an online environment. They prefer classroom environment more than the online setting for language learning. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=effectiveness" title="effectiveness">effectiveness</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=language" title=" language"> language</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=online%20learning" title=" online learning"> online learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=skills" title=" skills "> skills </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/29593/effectiveness-of-online-language-learning" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/29593.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">589</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">504</span> The Role of Human Beings as Caliphs in Preserving Nature</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Firdaus%20Khairi%20Abdul%20Kadir">Firdaus Khairi Abdul Kadir</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nazihah%20Rusli"> Nazihah Rusli</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Noor%20Aisyah%20Abdul%20Aziz"> Noor Aisyah Abdul Aziz</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Islam is a comprehensive religion encompassing all aspects of society’s life such as social, economic, political, cultural and environmental. The environment is part of the manifestation of God’s greatness which has pearls of wisdom, bestowed upon human beings to make them realize that everything is in the hands of God (Allah SWT). However, the equilibrium of nature could be disturbed from the excessive exploitation by humans’ hands. As a caliph on this earth, it is the responsibility of human beings to look after the environment proactively. Besides, Islam calls for the execution of accountable development and respecting the principles of sustainability. Therefore, this study focuses on the role of human beings as caliphs on this earth who are responsible for nature and their acts in conserving and preserving the environment based on the approach of religious education. In addition, a meta-heuristic algorithm is proposed for efficiently solving large-sized instances within a reasonable computation time. A parallel computing strategy is integrated into the algorithm to speed up its computation time. The average velocity for tidal current was 0.46 m/s and the maximum velocity was 1.08 m/s during ebb tide. During spring tides, maximum velocities range from 0.90 m/s to 1.08 m/s, whereas maximum velocities vary from 0.40 m/s to 0.60 m/s during neap tides. Despite greater current velocities during flood tide, the bathymetric features enhance the dominance of the ebb tide. This can be related to the abundance of fine sediments from the ebb current approaching the study area, and the relatively coarser sediment from the approaching flood current. Significant bathymetric changes for the period from 1985 to 1998 were found with dominance of erosion process. Approximately 96.5% of depth changes occurred within the depth change classes of -5 m to 5 m. The high erosion processes within the study area will subsequently result in high accretion processes, particularly in the north, the location of the proposed Boubyan Port and its navigation channel. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bathymetric%20change" title="bathymetric change">bathymetric change</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Boubyan%20island" title=" Boubyan island"> Boubyan island</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=GIS" title=" GIS"> GIS</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Khor%20Abdullah" title=" Khor Abdullah"> Khor Abdullah</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tidal%20current%20behavior" title=" tidal current behavior"> tidal current behavior</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/74285/tidal-current-behaviors-and-remarkable-bathymetric-change-in-the-south-western-part-of-khor-abdullah-kuwait" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/74285.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">289</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">500</span> Qatari Licensure System as Perceived by Teachers and School Leaders</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdullah%20Abu-Tineh">Abdullah Abu-Tineh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hissa%20Sadiq"> Hissa Sadiq</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fatma%20Al-Mutawah"> Fatma Al-Mutawah</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Youmen%20Chaaban"> Youmen Chaaban</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The past 20 years have seen a proliferation of empirical research into various licensure systems. Extensive quantitative work investigates these systems of appraisal from different countries, but there is far less research on the implementation of the Qatari licensure system and the adoption of professional standards. In this paper, we provided a quantitatively and qualitatively descriptive look at the process that moves educators from their point of entry into the profession through their certification as accomplished professionals. Specifically, we focused on the perceptions of teachers and school leaders on the licensure system currently adopted by Ministry of Education and Higher Education in Qatar. The paper aims to inform progress towards a system of reliable, valid, and nationally appropriate teacher and school leader evaluation procedures. In this paper, it is focused on peer-to-peer (P2P) energy trading and the implementation of the smart contract on the Ethereum blockchain. It is assumed a microgrid consists of consumers and prosumers that can produce solar and wind energy. The proposed architecture is a system where the prosumer makes the purchase or sale request in the smart contract and the maximum price obtained through the distribution system operator (DSO) by forecasting. It is aimed to forecast the hourly maximum unit price of energy by using deep learning instead of a fixed pricing. In this way, it will make the system more reliable as there will be more dynamic and accurate pricing. For this purpose, Istanbul's energy generation, energy consumption and market clearing price data were used. The consistency of the available data and forecasting results is observed and discussed with graphs. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=energy%20trading%20smart%20contract" title="energy trading smart contract">energy trading smart contract</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=deep%20learning" title=" deep learning"> deep learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=microgrid" title=" microgrid"> microgrid</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=forecasting" title=" forecasting"> forecasting</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ethereum" title=" Ethereum"> Ethereum</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=peer%20to%20peer" title=" peer to peer"> peer to peer</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/152401/a-smart-contract-project-peer-to-peer-energy-trading-with-price-forecasting-in-microgrid" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/152401.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">138</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">498</span> Anti -proliferative and Apoptotic Effects of Selected Saudi Herbs from the Rhamnaceae, Polygonaceae, and Apocynaceae Families Against Various Cancer Cell Lines</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Allulu%20Yousef%20Alturki">Allulu Yousef Alturki</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Raghad%20Abdullah%20Alshafi"> Raghad Abdullah Alshafi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sara%20Abdulaziz%20Alghashem"> Sara Abdulaziz Alghashem</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sahar%20Saleh%20Alghamdi"> Sahar Saleh Alghamdi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rasha%20Saad%20Suliman"> Rasha Saad Suliman</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zeyad%20Alehaideb"> Zeyad Alehaideb</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rizwan%20Ali"> Rizwan Ali</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Cancer is recognized as a worldwide public health concern. Therefore, there is a continuous quest to discover new effective medications with less side-effects. In recent years, researchers have shown an increased interest in medicinal plants as several plant species have shown promising biological activities. Thus, we seek to investigate three medicinal herbs that are commonly-found in the Middle Easternregion and yet have not been explored in depth, including plants belonging to the Rhamnaceae, Polygonaceae, and Apocynaceaeplant families. Initially, we investigated using three types of cancer cell lines for breast, colorectal, and liver cancers. We performed high Content Imaging (HCI)-Apoptosis Assay and ApoTox-Glo™ Triplex Assay on KAIMRC2 and HCT8 cell lines. The highest activity of HCI-Apoptosis Assay was with Calligonumcomosum and Ziziphusnummularia in ethanol, followed by Calotropis procera and Ziziphusnummularia in ethyl acetate. The IC50values for the families of Rhamnaceae, Polygonaceae, and Apocynaceae in HepG2 and HCT8 cell lines ranged from 0.089 to 9.84mg/mL and 0.080to 15.08mg/mL, respectively. Further screening was conducted on an additional two cell lines, namely the MDA-MB-231 and KAIMRC2, for selected seven extracts with the highest activity having IC50values ranged from 0.058 to0.51mg/mL and 0.029 to0.19mg/mL, respectively. Continuous scientific investigations to isolate and characterize the potent bioactive phytochemical(s) are warranted. For any given input, a search system will return a rank-ordered list of similar items. As users review returned items, they must decide when to halt the search and either revise search terms or conclude their requirement is novel with no similar items in the database. We present a statistically designed experiment that investigates the impact of similarity ratings on human judgement to conclude a search item is novel and halt the search. 450 participants were recruited from Amazon Mechanical Turk to render judgement across 12 decision tasks. We find the inclusion of ratings increases the human perception that items are novel. Percent similarity increases novelty discernment when compared with star-rated similarity or the absence of a rating. Ratings reduce the time to decide and improve decision confidence. This suggests the inclusion of similarity ratings can aid human decision-makers in knowledge search tasks. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ratings" title="ratings">ratings</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=rankings" title=" rankings"> rankings</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=crowdsourcing" title=" crowdsourcing"> crowdsourcing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=empirical%20studies" title=" empirical studies"> empirical studies</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=user%20studies" title=" user studies"> user studies</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=similarity%20measures" title=" similarity measures"> similarity measures</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=human-centered%20computing" title=" human-centered computing"> human-centered computing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=novelty%20in%20information%20retrieval" title=" novelty in information retrieval"> novelty in information retrieval</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/163910/impact-of-similarity-ratings-on-human-judgement" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/163910.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">131</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">496</span> The Role of Personality Type as Predictor of Trust among Ridesharing Community: Study in Nebengers Community Jakarta</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Firdaus%20Amri">Firdaus Amri</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ima%20Sri%20Rahmani"> Ima Sri Rahmani</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Traffic jam becomes the main problem among the people in a metropolitan city, especially in Indonesia. Nebengers, as one of ridesharing community in Indonesia, offer solutions against this problem. Nebengers is a social media community that connect people who want to give the ride and who want to ask for the ride. But in reality, Nebengers still have quite problems, especially regarding the safety issue. Practically, in this issue, they (people in Nebengers) only depend on trust between the one who gives the ride and who asks for the ride. Trust is defined as an expectation that partners, including potential partners, have goodwill and benign intent in their dealing with one and another. This paper will examine the role of personality type as predictor of trust among Nebengers community. Hexaco Personality consists of six dimensions (honesty-humility, emotionality, agreeableness, conscientiousness, extraversion, and openness to experience) is used in this research. By using snowball sampling, we took 250 respondents from Nebengers community as participants for this research. They complete questionnaires which are provided in online form. The role of each personality type as a basic analysis to understand trust among Nebengers community will be discussed in this research. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nebengers" title="Nebengers">Nebengers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=personality%20type" title=" personality type"> personality type</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ridesharing" title=" ridesharing"> ridesharing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=trust" title=" trust"> trust</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/42657/the-role-of-personality-type-as-predictor-of-trust-among-ridesharing-community-study-in-nebengers-community-jakarta" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/42657.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">360</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">495</span> Outline of a Technique for the Recommendation of Tourism Products in Cuba Using GIS</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jesse%20D.%20Cano">Jesse D. With such a development, Cuban companies opting for e-tourism as a way to publicize their products and attract customers has also grown. Despite this fact, the majority of Cuban tourism-themed websites simply provide information on the different products and services they offer which results in many cases, in the user getting overwhelmed with the amount of information available which results in the user abandoning the search before he can find a product that fits his needs. Customization has been recognized as a critical factor for successful electronic tourism business and the use of recommender systems is the best approach to address the problem of personalization. This paper aims to outline a preliminary technique to obtain predictions about which products a particular user would give a better evaluation; these products would be those which the website would show in the first place. To achieve this, the theoretical elements of the Cuban tourism environment are discussed; recommendation systems and geographic information systems as tools for information representation are also discussed. Finally, for each structural component identified, we define a set of rules that allows obtaining an electronic tourism system that handles the personalization of the service provided effectively. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=geographic%20information%20system" title="geographic information system">geographic information system</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=technique" title=" technique"> technique</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tourism%20products" title=" tourism products"> tourism products</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=recommendation" title=" recommendation"> recommendation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/20202/outline-of-a-technique-for-the-recommendation-of-tourism-products-in-cuba-using-gis" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/20202.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">503</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">494</span> Deep Learning based Image Classifiers for Detection of CSSVD in Cacao Plants</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Atuhurra%20Jesse">Atuhurra Jesse</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=N%27guessan%20Yves-Roland%20Douha"> N'guessan Yves-Roland Douha</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pabitra%20Lenka"> Pabitra Lenka</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The detection of diseases within plants has attracted a lot of attention from computer vision enthusiasts. Despite the progress made to detect diseases in many plants, there remains a research gap to train image classifiers to detect the cacao swollen shoot virus disease or CSSVD for short, pertinent to cacao plants. This gap has mainly been due to the unavailability of high quality labeled training data. Moreover, institutions have been hesitant to share their data related to CSSVD. To fill these gaps, image classifiers to detect CSSVD-infected cacao plants are presented in this study. The classifiers are based on VGG16, ResNet50 and Vision Transformer (ViT). The image classifiers are evaluated on a recently released and publicly accessible KaraAgroAI Cocoa dataset. The best performing image classifier, based on ResNet50, achieves 95.39\% precision, 93.75\% recall, 94.34\% F1-score and 94\% accuracy on only 20 epochs. There is a +9.75\% improvement in recall when compared to previous works. These results indicate that the image classifiers learn to identify cacao plants infected with CSSVD. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CSSVD" title="CSSVD">CSSVD</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=image%20classification" title=" image classification"> image classification</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ResNet50" title=" ResNet50"> ResNet50</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vision%20transformer" title=" vision transformer"> vision transformer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=KaraAgroAI%20cocoa%20dataset" title=" KaraAgroAI cocoa dataset"> KaraAgroAI cocoa dataset</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/169653/deep-learning-based-image-classifiers-for-detection-of-cssvd-in-cacao-plants" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/169653.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">103</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">493</span> School Leaders and Professional Licenses: Measuring the Impact as Perceived by Qatari Schools' Stakeholders</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hissa%20Sadiq">Hissa Sadiq</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdullah%20Abu-Tineh"> Abdullah Abu-Tineh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fatma%20Al-Mutawah"> Fatma Al-Mutawah</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hamda%20Al-Sulaiti"> Hamda Al-Sulaiti </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The purpose of this quantitative study was to measure the difference in levels of satisfaction of students, teachers, and parents in schools run by licensed school leaders comparing with schools run by unlicensed school leaders. Data was gathered from 108 school performance reports as published by Ministry of Education and Higher Education for the year 2015-2016. School leaders in 58 participating schools obtained the professional licenses while school leaders in 56 participating schools have no professional licenses. Percentages, standard deviations, and t-tests were used to analyze the data. Results showed that no statistical differences were found in students’ satisfaction between the two school types. However, there were statistical differences in parents and teachers’ satisfaction in the two school types attributed to obtaining the professional license. However, this concept is not well understood, thus, the aim of this study is to determine whether diabetes is an independent risk factor for falls in elderly. In this observational cross-sectional study, 309 diabetic patients aged 60 or more who visited the primary healthcare centers of the Ministry of National Guard Health Affairs in Jeddah were chosen via convenience sampling method. To collect the data, Semi-structured Fall Risk Assessment questionnaire and Fall Efficacy Score scale were used. The mean age of the participants was estimated to be 68.5 (SD:7.4) years. Among the participants, 48.2% experienced falling before, and 63.1% of them suffered falls in the past 12-months. The results showed that gait problems were independently associated with a higher likelihood of fall among the elderly patients (OR = 1.98, 95%CI, 1.08 to 3.62, p = 0.026. This paper suggests that diabetes mellitus is an independent fall risk factor among elderly. Therefore, identifying such patients as being at higher risk and prompt referral to a specialist falls clinic is recommended. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=diabetes" title="diabetes">diabetes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fall" title=" fall"> fall</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=elderly" title=" elderly"> elderly</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=risk%20factors" title=" risk factors"> risk factors</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/159194/risk-factors-for-fall-in-elderly-with-diabetes-mellitus-type-2-in-jeddah-saudi-arabia-2022-a-cross-sectional-study" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/159194.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">105</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">491</span> Cytochrome B Marker Reveals Three Distinct Genetic Lineages of the Oriental Latrine Fly Chrysomya megacephala (Diptera: Calliphoridae) in Malaysia</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rajagopal%20Kavitha">Rajagopal Kavitha</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Van%20Lun%20Low"> Van Lun Low</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohd%20Sofian-Azirun"> Mohd Sofian-Azirun</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chee%20Dhang%20Chen"> Chee Dhang Chen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohd%20Yusof%20Farida%20Zuraina"> Mohd Yusof Farida Zuraina</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohd%20Salleh%20Ahmad%20Firdaus"> Mohd Salleh Ahmad Firdaus</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Navaratnam%20Shanti"> Navaratnam Shanti</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdul%20Haiyee%20Zaibunnisa"> Abdul Haiyee Zaibunnisa</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This study investigated the hidden genetic lineages in the oriental latrine fly Chrysomya megacephala (Fabricius) across four states (i.e., Johore, Pahang, Perak and Selangor) and a federal territory (i.e., Kuala Lumpur) in Malaysia using Cytochrome b (Cyt b) genetic marker. The Cyt b phylogenetic tree and haplotype network revealed three distinct genetic lineages of Ch. megacephala. Lineage A, the basal clade was restricted to flies that originated from Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, while Lineages B and C, comprised of flies from all studied populations. An overlap of the three genetically divergent groups of Ch. megacephala was observed. However, the flies from both Kuala Lumpur and Selangor populations consisted of three different lineages, indicating that they are genetically diverse compared to those from Pahang, Perak and Johore. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=forensic%20entomology" title="forensic entomology">forensic entomology</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=calliphoridae" title=" calliphoridae"> calliphoridae</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mitochondrial%20DNA" title=" mitochondrial DNA"> mitochondrial DNA</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cryptic%20lineage" title=" cryptic lineage"> cryptic lineage</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/47473/cytochrome-b-marker-reveals-three-distinct-genetic-lineages-of-the-oriental-latrine-fly-chrysomya-megacephala-diptera-calliphoridae-in-malaysia" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/47473.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">512</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">490</span> Detection of Brackish Water Biological Fingerprints in Potable Water</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdullah%20Mohammad">Abdullah Mohammad</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdullah%20Alshemali"> Abdullah Alshemali</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Esmaeil%20Alsaleh"> Esmaeil Alsaleh</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The chemical composition of desalinated water is modified to make it more acceptable to the end-user. Sometimes, this modification is approached by mixing with brackish water that is known to contain a variety of minerals. Expectedly, besides minerals, brackish water indigenous bacterial communities access the final mixture hence reaching the end consumer. The current project examined the safety of using brackish water as an ingredient in potable water. Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains were detected in potable and brackish water samples collected from storage facilities in residential areas as well as from main water distribution and storage tanks. The application of molecular and biochemical fingerprinting methods, including phylogeny, RFLP (restriction fragment length polymorphism), MLST (multilocus sequence typing) and substrate specificity testing, suggested that the potable water P. aeruginosa strains were most probably originated from brackish water. Additionally, all the sixty-four isolates showed multi-drug resistance (MDR) phenotype and harboured the three genes responsible for biofilm formation. These virulence factors represent serious health hazards compelling the scientific community to revise the WHO (World Health Organization) and USEP (US Environmental Protection Agency) A potable water quality guidelines, particularly those related to the types of bacterial genera that evade the current water quality guidelines. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=potable%20water" title="potable water">potable water</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=brackish%20water" title=" brackish water"> brackish water</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pseudomonas%20aeroginosa" title=" pseudomonas aeroginosa"> pseudomonas aeroginosa</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=multidrug%20resistance" title=" multidrug resistance"> multidrug resistance</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/151234/detection-of-brackish-water-biological-fingerprints-in-potable-water" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/151234.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">122</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">489</span> The Leadership Criterion: Challenges in Pursuing Excellence in the Jordanian Public Sector</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shaker%20Aladwan">Shaker Aladwan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Paul%20Forrester"> Paul Forrester</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper explores the challenges that face leaders when implementing business excellence programmes in the Jordanian public sector. The study adopted a content analysis approach to analyse the excellence assessment reports that have been produced by the King Abdullah II Centre for Excellence (KACE). The sample comprises ten public organisations which have participated in the King Abdullah Award for Excellence (KAA) more than once and acknowledge in their reports that they have failed to achieve satisfactory results. The key challenges to the implementation of leadership criteria in the public sector in Jordan were found to be poor strategic planning, lack of employee empowerment, weaknesses in benchmarking performance, a lack of financial resources, poor integration and coordination, and poor measurement system: This study proposes a conceptual model for the as assessment of challenges that face managers when seeking to implement excellence in leadership in the Jordanian public sector. Theoretically, this paper fills context gaps in the excellence literature in general and organisational excellence in the public sector in particular. Leadership challenges in the public sector are generally widely studied, but it is important to gain a better understanding of how these challenges can be overcome. In comparison to many existing studies, this research has provided specific and detailed insights these organisational excellence challenges in the public sector and provides a conceptual model for use by other researchers into the future. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=leadership%20criterion" title="leadership criterion">leadership criterion</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=organisational%20excellence" title=" organisational excellence"> organisational excellence</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=challenges" title=" challenges"> challenges</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=quality%20awards" title=" quality awards"> quality awards</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=public%20sector" title=" public sector"> public sector</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jordan" title=" Jordan "> Jordan </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/28887/the-leadership-criterion-challenges-in-pursuing-excellence-in-the-jordanian-public-sector" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/28887.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">390</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">488</span> Immunomodulation by Interleukin-10 Therapy in Mouse Airway Transplantation </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammaad%20Afzal%20Khan">Mohammaad Afzal Khan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ghazi%20Abdulmalik%20Ashoor"> Ghazi Abdulmalik Ashoor </a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fatimah%20Alanazi"> Fatimah Alanazi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Talal%20Shamma"> Talal Shamma</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdullah%20Altuhami"> Abdullah Altuhami</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hala%20Abdalrahman%20Ahmed"> Hala Abdalrahman Ahmed</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdullah%20Mohammed%20Assiri"> Abdullah Mohammed Assiri</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dieter%20Clemens%20Broering"> Dieter Clemens Broering</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Microvascular injuries during inflammation are key causes of transplant malfunctioning and permanent failure, which play a major role in the development of chronic rejection of the transplanted organ. Inflammation-induced microvascular loss is a promising area to investigate the decisive roles of regulatory and effector responses. The present study was designed to investigate the impact of IL-10 on immunotolerance, in particular, the microenvironment of the allograft during rejection. Here, we investigated the effects of IL-10 blockade/ reconstitution and serially monitored regulatory T cells (Tregs), graft microvasculature, and airway epithelium in rejecting airway transplants. We demonstrated that the blocking/reconstitution of IL-10 significantly modulates CD4+FOXP3+ Tregs, microvasculature, and airway epithelium during rejection. Our findings further highlighted that blockade of IL-10 upregulated proinflammatory cytokines, IL-2, IL-1β, IFN-γ, IL-15, and IL-23, but suppressed IL-5 secretion during rejection; however, reconstitution of IL-10 significantly upregulated CD4+FOXP3+ Tregs, tissue oxygenation/blood flow and airway repair. Collectively, these findings demonstrate a potential reparative modulation of IL-10 during microvascular and epithelial repair, which could provide a vital therapeutic window to rejecting transplants in clinical practice. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=interleukin%20-10" title="interleukin -10">interleukin -10</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=regulatory%20T%20cells" title=" regulatory T cells"> regulatory T cells</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=allograft%20rejection" title=" allograft rejection"> allograft rejection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=immunotolerance" title=" immunotolerance"> immunotolerance</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/114156/immunomodulation-by-interleukin-10-therapy-in-mouse-airway-transplantation" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/114156.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">175</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">487</span> Feasibility of Building Structure Due to Decreased Concrete Quality of School Building in Banda Aceh City 19 Years after Tsunami</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rifqi%20Irvansyah">Rifqi Irvansyah</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdullah%20Abdullah"> Abdullah Abdullah</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yunita%20Idris"> Yunita Idris</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bunga%20Raihanda"> Bunga Raihanda</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Banda Aceh is particularly susceptible to heightened vulnerability during natural disasters due to its concentrated exposure to multi-hazard risks. Despite urgent priorities during the aftermath of natural disasters, such as the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami, several public facilities, including school buildings, sustained damage yet continued operations without adequate repairs, even though they were submerged by the tsunami. This research aims to evaluate the consequences of column damage induced by tsunami inundation on the structural integrity of buildings. The investigation employs interaction diagrams for columns to assess their capacity, taking into account factors such as rebar deterioration and corrosion. The analysis result shows that one-fourth of the K1 columns on the first floor fall outside of the column interaction diagram, indicating that the column structure cannot handle the load above it, as evidenced by the presence of Pu and Mu, which are greater than the column's design strength. This suggests that the five columns of K1 should be cause for concern, as the column's capacity is decreasing. These results indicate that the structure of the building cannot sustain the applied load because the column cross-section has deteriorated. In contrast, all K2 columns meet the design strength, indicating that the column structure can withstand the structural loads. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a
