he set<MH6966> it up<MH6966> on the plain<MH1236> of Dura<MH1757> in the province<MH4083> of Babylon<MH895>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/3-2.htm"><b>2</b></a></span>Nebuchadnezzar<MH5020> the king<MH4430> also sent<MH7972> <i>word</i> to assemble<MH3673> the satraps<MH324>, the prefects<MH5460> and the governors<MH6347>, the counselors<MH148>, the chief<MH1411> treasurers<MH1411>, the judges<MH1884>, the magistrates<MH8614>, and all<MH3606> the administrators<MH7984> of the provinces<MH4083> to come<MH858> to the dedication<MH2597> of the statue<MH6755> that Nebuchadnezzar<MH5020> the king<MH4430> had set<MH6966> up<MH6966>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/3-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>Then<MH116> the satraps<MH324>, the prefects<MH5460> and the governors<MH6347>, the counselors<MH148>, the chief<MH1411> treasurers<MH1411>, the judges<MH1884>, the magistrates<MH8614>, and all<MH3606> the administrators<MH7984> of the provinces<MH4083> were assembled<MH3673> for the dedication<MH2597> of the statue<MH6755> that Nebuchadnezzar<MH5020> the king<MH4430> had set<MH6966> up<MH6966>; and they stood<MH6966> before<MH6903> the statue<MH6755> that Nebuchadnezzar<MH5020> had set<MH6966> up<MH6966>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/3-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>Then the herald<MH3744> loudly<MH2429> proclaimed<MH7123>: &#8220;To you <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>the command<MH560> is<MH560> given<MH560>, you peoples<MH5972>, nations<MH524>, and <i>populations of all</i> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>languages<MH3961>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/3-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>that at the moment<MH5732> you hear<MH8086> the sound<MH7032a> of the horn<MH7162>, flute<MH4953>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>lyre<MH7030>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>trigon<MH5443>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>psaltery<MH6460>, bagpipe<MH5481>, and all<MH3606> kinds<MH2178> of musical<MH2170> instruments<MH2170>, you are to fall<MH5308> down<MH5308> and worship<MH5457> the golden<MH1722> statue<MH6755> that Nebuchadnezzar<MH5020> the king<MH4430> has set<MH6966> up<MH6966>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/3-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>But whoever<MH4479> does not fall<MH5308> down<MH5308> and worship<MH5457> shall immediately<MH8160> be thrown<MH7412> into the middle<MH1459> of a furnace<MH861> of blazing<MH3345> fire<MH5135>.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/3-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>Therefore<MH6903, 1836> as soon<MH2166> as all<MH3606> the peoples<MH5972> heard<MH8086> the sound<MH7032a> of the horn<MH7162>, flute<MH4953>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>lyre<MH7030>, trigon<MH5443>, psaltery<MH6460>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>bagpipe<MH5481>, and all<MH3606> kinds<MH2178> of musical<MH2170> instruments<MH2170>, all<MH3606> the peoples<MH5972>, nations<MH524>, and <i>populations of all</i> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>languages<MH3961> fell<MH5308> down<MH5308> <i>and</i> worshiped<MH5457> the golden<MH1722> statue<MH6755> that Nebuchadnezzar<MH5020> the king<MH4430> had set<MH6966> up<MH6966>. <p class="hdg">Worship of the Image Refused</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/3-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>For this<MH1836> reason<MH6903> at that time<MH2166> certain<MH1400> Chaldeans<MH3779> came<MH7127> forward<MH7127> and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>brought<MH399> charges<MH7170> against<MH1768> the Jews<MH3062>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/3-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>They began<MH6032> to<MH6032> speak<MH6032> and said<MH560> to Nebuchadnezzar<MH5020> the king<MH4430>: &#8220;O king<MH4430>, live<MH2418> forever<MH5957>! <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/3-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>You, O king<MH4430>, have made<MH7761> a decree<MH2942> that every<MH3606> person<MH606> who<MH1768> hears<MH8086> the sound<MH7032a> of the horn<MH7162>, flute<MH4953>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>lyre<MH7030>, trigon<MH5443>, psaltery<MH6460>, and bagpipe<MH5481>, and all<MH3606> kinds<MH2178> of musical<MH2170> instruments<MH2170>, is to fall<MH5308> down<MH5308> and worship<MH5457> the golden<MH1722> statue<MH6755>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/3-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>But whoever<MH4479> does not fall<MH5308> down<MH5308> and worship<MH5457> shall be thrown<MH7412> into the middle<MH1459> of a furnace<MH861> of blazing<MH3345> fire<MH5135>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/3-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>There<MH383> are<MH383> certain<MH1400> Jews<MH3062> whom<MH1768> you have appointed<MH4483> over<MH5922> the administration<MH5673> of the province<MH4083> of Babylon<MH895>, <i>namely</i> Shadrach<MH7715>, Meshach<MH4336>, and Abed-nego<MH5665>. These<MH479> men<MH1400>, O king<MH4430>, have disregarded<MH3809, 7761, 5922, 2942> you; they do not serve<MH6399> your gods<MH426>, nor<MH3809> do they worship<MH5457> the golden<MH1722> statue<MH6755> which<MH1768> you have set<MH6966> up<MH6966>.&#8221; <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/3-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>Then<MH116> Nebuchadnezzar<MH5020> in rage<MH7266> and anger<MH2528> gave<MH560> orders<MH560> to bring<MH858> Shadrach<MH7715>, Meshach<MH4336>, and Abed-nego<MH5665>; then<MH116> these<MH479> men<MH1400> were brought<MH858> before<MH6925> the king<MH4430>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/3-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>Nebuchadnezzar<MH5020> began<MH6032> speaking<MH6032> and said<MH560> to them, &#8220;Is it true<MH6656>, Shadrach<MH7715>, Meshach<MH4336>, and Abed-nego<MH5665>, that you do<MH383> not serve<MH6399> my gods<MH426>, nor<MH3809> worship<MH5457> the golden<MH1722> statue<MH6755> that I have set<MH6966> up<MH6966>? <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/3-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>Now<MH3705> if<MH2006> you are ready<MH6263>, at the moment<MH5732> you hear<MH8086> the sound<MH7032a> of the horn<MH7162>, flute<MH4953>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>lyre<MH7030>, trigon<MH5443>, psaltery<MH6460> and bagpipe<MH5481>, and all<MH3606> kinds<MH2178> of musical<MH2170> instruments<MH2170>, to fall<MH5308> down<MH5308> and worship<MH5457> the statue<MH6755> that I have made<MH5648>, <i>very well.</i> But if<MH2006> you do not worship<MH5457>, you will <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>immediately<MH8160> be thrown<MH7412> into the midst<MH1459> of a furnace<MH861> of blazing<MH3345> fire<MH5135>; and what<MH4479> god<MH426> is there who<MH1768> can rescue<MH7804> you from my hands<MH3028>?&#8221; <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/3-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>Shadrach<MH7715>, Meshach<MH4336>, and Abed-nego<MH5665> replied<MH6032> to the king<MH4430>, &#8220;Nebuchadnezzar<MH5020>, we are<MH2818> not in<MH2818> need<MH2818> of<MH2818> an answer<MH6600> to give<MH8421> you concerning<MH5922> this<MH1836> matter<MH1836>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/3-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>If<MH2006> it be <i>so,</i> our God<MH426> whom<MH1768> we serve<MH6399> is able<MH3202> to rescue<MH7804> us from the furnace<MH861> of blazing<MH3345> fire<MH5135>; <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>and He will rescue<MH7804> us from your hand<MH3028>, O king<MH4430>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/3-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>But <i>even</i> if<MH2006> <i>He does</i> not, let it be<MH3046> known<MH3046> to you, O king<MH4430>, that we are not going to serve<MH6399> your gods<MH426> nor<MH3809> worship<MH5457> the golden<MH1722> statue<MH6755> that you have set<MH6966> up<MH6966>.&#8221; <p class="hdg">Daniel&#8217;s Friends Protected</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/3-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>Then<MH116> Nebuchadnezzar<MH5020> was filled<MH4391> with wrath<MH2528>, and his facial<MH600> expression<MH6755> was changed<MH8133> toward<MH5922> Shadrach<MH7715>, Meshach<MH4336>, and Abed-nego<MH5665>. He answered<MH6032> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>by giving<MH560> orders<MH560> to heat<MH228> the furnace<MH861> seven<MH7655> times<MH2298> more<MH5922> than<MH5922, 1768> it was usually<MH2370> heated<MH228>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/3-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>And he ordered<MH560> certain<MH1400> valiant<MH2429> warriors<MH1401> who<MH1768> <i>were</i> in his army<MH2429> to tie<MH3729> up<MH3729> Shadrach<MH7715>, Meshach<MH4336>, and Abed-nego<MH5665> in order to throw<MH7412> <i>them</i> into the furnace<MH861> of blazing<MH3345> fire<MH5135>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/3-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>Then<MH116> these<MH479> men<MH1400> were tied<MH3729> up<MH3729> in their trousers<MH5622>, their <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>coats<MH6361>, their caps<MH3737>, and their <i>other</i> clothes<MH3831>, and were thrown<MH7412> into the middle<MH1459> of the furnace<MH861> of blazing<MH3345> fire<MH5135>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/3-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>For this<MH1836> reason<MH6903>, because<MH4481, 1768> the king&#8217;s<MH4430> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>command<MH4406> <i>was</i> harsh<MH2685> and the furnace<MH861> had been made<MH228> extremely<MH3493> hot<MH228>, the flame<MH7631> of the fire<MH5135> killed<MH6992> those<MH479> men<MH1400> who<MH1768> took<MH5559b> up<MH5559b> Shadrach<MH7715>, Meshach<MH4336>, and Abed-nego<MH5665>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/3-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>But these<MH479> three<MH8532> men<MH1400>, Shadrach<MH7715>, Meshach<MH4336>, and Abed-nego<MH5665>, fell<MH5308> into the middle<MH1459> of the furnace<MH861> of blazing<MH3345> fire<MH5135> <i>still</i> tied<MH3729> up<MH3729>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/3-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>Then<MH116> Nebuchadnezzar<MH5020> the king<MH4430> was astounded<MH8429> and stood<MH6966> up<MH6966> quickly<MH927>; he said<MH560> to his counselors<MH1907>, &#8220;Was it not three<MH8532> men<MH1400> <i>that</i> we threw<MH7412> bound<MH3729> into the middle<MH1459> of the fire<MH5135>?&#8221; They replied<MH6032> to the king<MH4430>, &#8220;Absolutely<MH3330a>, O king<MH4430>.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/3-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>He responded<MH6032, 560>, &#8220;Look<MH1888>! I see<MH2370> four<MH703> men<MH1400> untied<MH8271> <i>and</i> walking<MH1981> about<MH1981> in the middle<MH1459> of the fire<MH5135> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[r]</a></span>unharmed<MH3809, 2257>, and the appearance<MH7299> of the fourth<MH7244> is like<MH1821> a son<MH1247> of <i>the</i> gods<MH426>!&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/3-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>Then<MH116> Nebuchadnezzar<MH5020> came<MH7127> near<MH7127> to the door<MH8651> of the furnace<MH861> of blazing<MH3345> fire<MH5135>; he said<MH560>, &#8220;Shadrach<MH7715>, Meshach<MH4336>, and Abed-nego<MH5665>, come<MH5312> out<MH5312>, you servants<MH5649> of the Most<MH5943> High<MH5943> God<MH426>, and come<MH858> here<MH5312>!&#8221; Then<MH116> Shadrach<MH7715>, Meshach<MH4336>, and Abed-nego<MH5665> came<MH5312> out<MH5312> of the middle<MH1459> of the fire<MH5135>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/3-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>The satraps<MH324>, the prefects<MH5460>, the governors<MH6347>, and the king&#8217;s<MH4430> counselors<MH1907> gathered<MH3673> together<MH3673> <i>and</i> saw<MH2370> that the fire<MH5135> had<MH7981> no<MH3809> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[s]</a></span>effect<MH7981> on <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[t]</a></span>the bodies<MH1655> of these<MH479> men<MH1400>, nor<MH3809> was the hair<MH8177> of their heads<MH7217> singed<MH2761>, nor<MH3809> were their <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[u]</a></span>trousers<MH5622> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[v]</a></span>damaged<MH8133>, nor<MH3809> had <i>even</i> the smell<MH7382> of fire<MH5135> touched<MH5709> them. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/3-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>Nebuchadnezzar<MH5020> responded<MH6032> and said<MH560>, &#8220;Blessed<MH1289> be the God<MH426> of Shadrach<MH7715>, Meshach<MH4336>, and Abed-nego<MH5665>, who<MH1768> has sent<MH7972> His angel<MH4398> and rescued<MH7804> His servants<MH5649> who<MH1768> put<MH7365> their trust<MH7365> in Him, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[w]</a></span>violating<MH8133> the king&#8217;s<MH4430> command<MH4406>, and surrendered<MH3052> their bodies<MH1655> rather<MH1768, 3809> than<MH3809> serve<MH6399> or worship<MH5457> any<MH3606> god<MH426> except<MH3861b> their own God<MH426>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/daniel/3-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>Therefore I make<MH7761> a decree<MH2942> that any<MH3606> people<MH5972>, nation<MH524>, or <i>population of any</i> language<MH3961> that speaks<MH560> anything offensive<MH7960> against<MH5922> the God<MH426> of Shadrach<MH7715>, Meshach<MH4336>, and Abed-nego<MH5665> shall be torn<MH5648> limb<MH1917> from limb<MH1917> and their houses<MH1005> made<MH7739b> a rubbish<MH5122> heap<MH5122>, because<MH6903, 1768> there<MH383> is<MH383> no<MH3809> other<MH321> god<MH426> who<MH1768> is able<MH3202> to save<MH5338> in this<MH1836> way.&#8221;
